  1. Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm new to BariatricPal. I am 23 years old and was part of an obese adolescent study in which I got the lapband at 17 years old. Long story short, it failed and I need to get it out. I've had no problems with the band (just throwing up due to getting stuck quite a bit but never any acid reflux, slippage, leakage, erosion, etc) I have gained 100+ lbs since 2011. I went off to college (college kids are not the healthiest lol) and suffered through the tragic and sudden loss of my sister. I am getting my band to bypass revision surgery at George Washington University Hospital this coming Tuesday on June 13 in one operation with Dr. Joseph Afram. I'm not as nervous as I thought I would be - but definitely want to get the surgery over with and want to come home as soon as possible! I want to power and push through the recovery process - stay positive, full of faith and prayer so that I can start my new life. Any revision experiences, specifically involving Lap Band, I would love to hear!!! This app is inspiring!

    revision approved!

Congratulations!!! Wishing you a safe revision!
  3. I've lost a good bit by now (84lbs with 39 to go) my belly button isn't getting any air and it's gross and smelly and wet. Sooo gross. I've tried lotrimin spray and alcohol to clean it but it's still gross. Any advise on how to deal with this? Also when do you start thinking about plastic surgery. Again I still have a ways to go but I'm already seeing belly button issues and thinking I need to wrap my head around another surgery. And also what's the chance I get my insurance company to pay for it? Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 199 GW: 160

    Anyone regretting this?

My 6 1/2 yo Lapband is coming out and revised to RNY July 5th. It caused many serious problems. I wanted the sleeve too but because of GERD, he said the RNY would be better for me. I am also getting negative comments regarding the surgery. I am at the "very nervous" stage! I hope I am as happy as you post surgery! I'm happy to read positive outcomes!

    Anyone regretting this?

I was really scared going in, but seven weeks out, I do not regret my choice at all. At first, I thought I wanted the sleeve, too. My doctor made my choice for me, basically, and now I'm glad he did. He knew best. I see so many who are having their sleeve revised to RNY because it no longer works properly, or they didn't lose, quit losing, or gained weight back. I had a lap band for 7 years that did not work and had to be removed in an emergency surgery. I'm lucky to be alive. Wish I had done the RNY back then instead of the band. That is my only regret.

Why did you pick this surgery?

Great news on your revision! I will be so happy to have this Lapband out! July 5th can't come soon enough! I'm just nervous about recovery but I'm sure I won't regret the revision!

Why did you pick this surgery?

I was scheduled for band to RNY, but changed to sleeve instead. As far as restriction goes, there is a night and day difference for me between when I had the band and now that I have the sleeve. The main difference was having a stomach that was never full even if the band was, so the hunger was always there vs having a small stomach that is easy to fill. I am very happy with the revision and honestly have no complaints about the sleeve at all.

    Gastric sleeve left side pain

Maybe that is what your left quadrant pain is. I'm only 2 weeks out but occasionally it hurts. Maybe it's a build up of scar tissue? Band to VSG revision:5/23/17 HW: 315 Pre-op: 294 SW: 283 CW:268.7 GW: 175

    Gastric sleeve left side pain

What side was your port on? Mine was the left. Band to VSG revision:5/23/17 HW: 315 Pre-op: 294 SW: 283 CW:268.7 GW: 175
  19. Definitely call your team's dietician and see their recommendations. My practice wants 60-80 grams of protein, as low carb as possible. 800-1000 calories. I'm only 2 weeks out and they said to continue supplementing with shakes to get to the required protein. I'm on the pureed stage and after a few bites I'm done. So thankful my band was removed! Best of luck!!! Band to VSG revision:5/23/17 HW: 315 Pre-op: 294 SW: 283 CW:268.7 GW: 175

    Bypass Vs. Sleeve?

I had RNY NOV 23, 2016. I was going to have the Sleeve until one month before surgery. I just changed my mind after reading about people having sleeve to RNY revisions and gaining weight back with sleeve ( I know they gain with RNY but not quit as much). Other than the surgery itself life after is pretty much same, same diet, same recovery, pretty much same everything. So I was like if I'm going to have surgery, I'm only going to do it once and go with the gold standard.
  21. Good morning all! was hoping someone could share their story for a sleeve revision to RNY. I am still waiting on my approval and surgery date, but want to start mentally preparing. my revision is due to reflux and regain Did you have to follow a pre op diet for the revision? is the weight loss slower after a revision? how much can I expect to lose a month? I lost on average 7 lbs monthly with sleeve. was the recovery and post op pain a lot different than the sleeve or about the same? how long was hospital stay? for my sleeve I only stayed over night any other information would greatly be appreciated! thanks in advance!

    Open RNY revision

Hello Kat68 Hope all is well. I am not sure if revision is possible after having gastric bypass but I will ask my surgeon since I have a appt with him and can find out but if it's not possible, I believe you will have to start following the guidelines for losing weight by eating portion control and seeing a nutritionist. It is possible to lose again. I know a few people that went back and followed the stages of eating for gastric bypass. Where do you live? I have a great surgeon and his name is Collins Braithwaite and he is in Garden City in Long Island. His number is (516) 663-3300. If you decide to call him tell him Ana Santiago-Siddiqi referred you to him. He is the medical and chief director of Bariatric Surgury and I know him very well and I also work for same hospital. I trust him 💯 percent and he has helped me a lot and basically saved my life in many ways. I have a question. Did you gain the weight just like that or did you start eating more than usual? If that is the case you can start all over and cut down. It happens but don't get discourage.

    Outpatient surgery?

I asked my surgeon (currently presurgery revision waiting for approval) he prefers outpatient. He said you heal better at home and there's less risk of infection.
  24. I had my open RNY in 2001. Lost 140lbs , then gained 80 lbs back. I am interested in revision surgery. What options do I have? Who was your doctor ? I would appreciate sharing your information with me. I was told by my original surgeon that there is nothing he can do!

    Panniculectomy?

I couldn't wait until goal. I know I will probably need a revision tummy tuck but this was medically necessary for me to get it now unfortunately. I would have loved to wait but it was too much to wait.
