For the last few days I've felt more and more 'odd' I want to sleep all the time as I'm exhausted after just one visit to the shop. I have no appetite for anything but forcing myself to eat Soup s and yogurt. I am ok with Fluid but only ice cold tap Water which I'm having sips of through the day. My weight has remained the same for two days now. I had a sweat for no real reason this morning whilst out shopping and felt really nauseous so came home and went to bed. Anyone else feeling the same or am I doing something wrong ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Not doing this puréed thing right...
Armygalbonnie replied to Vee16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cottage cheese is easily tolerable. I also ate Greek yogurt, a little non-fat refried Beans with plain yogurt on top. Ricotta bake is good but don't go too heavy on the sauce because it may cause more acid this early out. I didn't get very adventurous as I was still trying to adjust to food being in my stomach. -
Day 4 Post op

I am day 9 post op and I agree that I have had hunger, I found Greek yogurt helped a bit more than a shake, I don't know if it is just that it is a little thicker Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Suggestions needed..............
hmm33502 replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about some fat free refried Beans (I like the refried black beans) with some plain Greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream and has protein), salsa, some lean ground beef and a bit of cheese. Keep it lean with ingredients, but beans have protein! Maybe with a few "juicier" ingredients the bit of ground beef will sit better? I created a high Protein, low sugar custard-like dessert that tastes like coconut cream pie, if you are interested in sweet. Easily 10-15g protein in 1/4c. Getting Anxious / Pre-Op Diet
zizi_tops replied to GregMedic51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is January 31st, I have a BMI of 44 and I have to be on the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery as well. No pre-made Protein shakes either. I have to make them myself with Water. I'm starting to think that the pre-op diet depends on your surgeon. Cuz it's varies with each person you talk to. I'm starting my diet a week early so I can get accustomed to it. I'll start with having Greek yogurts and pre-made shakes and hopefully in a weeks time, the clear liquid diet won't be so bad. Not doing this puréed thing right...
hayleyf3706 replied to Vee16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I made an awesome refried bean puree. Put half a can in the processor with 1/3 can beef broth, lime juice, cumin, garlic, and cheese. Heated it up and ate about 1/2 cup. I've also been enjoying yogurt! I just recently entered the puree phase. -
Day 4 Post op
CapeCodVSG replied to Leslie Grasham Jacobs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 days post-op. I'm allowed to eat yogurt and I add a little milk to thin it a bit and put in a little Protein powder. It helps when I feel like I'm in need of "food." Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App -

I ate a lot of fish during the soft phase, especially Swai and Cod. Baked them with a little lemon juice and olive oil. Easy to swallow and a lot of Protein. I also stuck pretty much with greek yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs w/cheese.

Haven't eaten since surgery, is this normal?
bleonhardt replied to Vixxey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Totally normal!! I also stayed on clear liquids for a week until I could tolerate more. And even then a 6 oz yogurt would take 4 to 5 hours to eat!!! Just keep getting all your liquids in so you do not dehydrate yourself and every day try something new...you will get there promise! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -
When Does Hunger Kick In?
TheGirlInThePinkScarf replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program wants me to stop with shakes by now and to get all of my protein from food, so that's why I'm worried about my lack of eating. I get nauseous still and I can only eat a few bites of anything (except yogurt which of course I'm now getting tired of) before I get full, so I'm not coming close to meeting my protein goals right now. Hiya, @@sleeved.tekee! I was sleeved on 12/21/16. My question is what are some things you may have tried at this point? I am also on the pureed/soft foods part of healing. I've had skim ricotta (my favorite), Greek yogurt, strained Soups from Panera, hummus, pudding, popsicles, tuna with mayo. How did u cook it? The only thing I've really cooked was Eggface's Ricotta Bake - I wasn't a fan, personally. However, I add unflavored Protein powder to everything to ensure that I am meeting my protein goals. How did ur stomach handle it? I've not yet been nauseous, vomited, or overeaten. I measure everything and run my phone's stopwatch during meals. One minute between bites, I chew as much as I can stand to, for a max of 15-20 minutes of mealtime. This way I know my caloric intake and macros for the day. No guesswork.

Fellow Plant-Based Eaters, Let's Post! (CHALLENGE)
RDub replied to talkingmountain's topic in Vegetarian or Vegan Eating
I was a vegetarian for years. After surgery I added fish back in occasionally. The thought of eating chicken, beef or pork makes me feel ill. After 15 months, I am getting very tired of my staple foods, but not sure how to expand without adding meat. Also would like to cut down the amount of dairy (yogurt and cheese) that I eat. -
How many calories...
Tufflaw replied to visionmom77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every morning for Breakfast I have two scrambled eggs with 1 oz of shredded cheese (about 270 calories). About an hour later I drink an 11 oz. Premier Protein drink (160 calories), then usually when I'm at work I have 16 oz Water after that. For lunch I've been mostly eating Shelly's Ricotta Bake which is amazing (about 200 calories)! (EDIT: It won't let me add the website for the recipe, just google Shelly's Ricotta Bake). If I don't have any portions left, I'll have tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, or turkey salad which is all homemade and pureed (calories vary). I usually have 4 oz and sometimes I'll put shredded cheese on top. dinner is more of the same, one of my pureed salads. Non-water drinks - either Powerade Zero or Diet Snapple. For Snacks, either Yoplait light yogurt (90 cal) or sugar free Jello pudding (60 cal) - today I had one after lunch and one after dinner. Or I might have one or two Sugar Free ice pops (15 cal each). I've had no problems getting my protein in and I never feel hungry. In fact the other night I overdid it with the egg salad, I tried 5 oz and felt uncomfortably full after, so I reeled it back to 4 oz. I've tried some seafood - I bought some flake crab meat from Aldi's and it was OK, not great. I might try again and made a seafood salad with it. I also got some Mahi Mahi from Trader Joe's and it was underwhelming. Very bland even though I made it with lemon juice and a bunch of spices. I have one piece left and may try a seafood salad with that one. Good luck! -
I was really lucky - I didn't have much nausea at all. Most of it was probably my surgeon's very vigorous anti-nausea protocol. I also worked really hard to stay hydrated from the get-go because I tend to get sick really easily. (Two pregnancies that felt like endless motion sickness - I literally threw up from pregnancy test to the O.R. table during my c-sections.) Having said that, do keep in touch with your doctor to make sure you're within normal ranges and aren't experiencing serious complications. Track Fluid intake, etc. It can be hard to tell the difference between, "Sucks but I'll survive," and "Needs medical intervention now." And I'm saying this as someone who just got yelled at by their surgeon for not making a hematology appointment when staff "suggested" it last week. . With that out of the way, here's what I found to be helpful. "Ultima Replenisher" No-cal, stevia sweetened, electrolyte drink. I got an assorted flavor pack off Amazon and would add part of a packet to my Water and it made it SO much easier to drink. I think the inherent dehydration and nausea can just spin cycle off each other and make it really hard to kick once you're there. The extra electrolytes and little bit of flavor really helped. I also would have a thermos of bone broth with me that I'd sip on whenever I could. My favorites were the chicken broth my honey cooked with a Parmesan rind, and chicken broth with a spoon of miso paste and soy sauce (both were filtered after cooking). Notice the "salty" theme. But I made it my mission to drink one over the course of a few hours. Or when I woke up at night. I also drank unsweetened herbal tea - my favorite was the Sleepytime Peach because it was chamomile based but had a hint of mint that was amazing for my cranky tummy. Once I moved past Clear Liquids, I had a hard time with Protein shakes, but could tolerate yogurt or kefir with a drop of berry stevia. It does get better - I'm at three month and can eat and drink most things within reason. Still like my Ultima Replenisher packets, especially if I'm fighting off a cold or overdoing it. But I absolutely spent most of the first month just managing eating, drinking, and meds. And the first couple weeks of forcing down liquids suck - it's like the worst full time job ever. Good luck! How many calories...
mylighthouse replied to visionmom77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told by my nutritionist and also a person here that I needed to get my calories above 600 a day in order to lose weight. I lost weight the first 2 weeks and my calories were definitely under 500 a day. But then after that, I started stalling at least every other week until I could get my calories above 600 a day. I started adding more Protein to my diet... I was not very hungry either. So when I did eat things like yogurt, cottage cheese or Soup, I would add unflavored Protein powder to them to boost my calories a bit. I also drank the Premier Protein shakes in between meals to get in some more calories. Doing those things got my calories up into the 600's while I was on my pureed and soft food stages. Then I started dropping weight again. Now that I am 8 weeks post surgery, I am finally finding that I am getting hungry and I am able to replace the shakes I had for Snacks with other foods like string cheese, cottage cheese with fruit and yogurt. Got my calories up to 800 a day now and I am still losing weight. -

Omj!! YEESSSS! I was given Miralax, I've had to take it twice!! But it works wonders, the first time I had to take a dose that evening then again the next morning, just the other day I was having problems and took a dose and by morning it was all good I like Miralax because you stir it into 4ozs of Water and drink it, it has no flavor so it goes down easy. You a Nola girl?? Me too, now live in Texas!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Yes I'm a NOLAGIRL living in Memphis,TN I've been blending the whey Protein with 1% milk and it gives me gas so back, but I've had BM since I posted that, so I'm going on 3 weeks out I've tried grits and eggs yesterday and it felt like it was stuck in my chest very uncomfortable feeling, I'm on puree foods but idk what to eat that will be good to me. I couldn't do refried Beans before surgery bcuz of acid reflux anyway I don't like it, any suggestions? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App I totally understand, Proteins do that to me too, like they won't go down... I stuck to Greek yogurt and cream of wheat, now when I blend my meats I add broth or water, blend them well, then strain it... Not the tastiest, but I can tolerate them.... I'm going on 5 weeks out and find I'm tolerating things better now. Last night I went out to a restaurant with my family, ordered bean Soup, smashed some of the beans up with the juice and was able to tolerate it really well.... I also didn't use to know when I was full, but I'm learning what that feels like now. When I first started with puréed meats, I also tried to eat 2oz.... and realized I could only eat an oz comfortably. Each day will get better. Try eating just an egg, blend it up with some broth ( after I blend it, I nuke it a few secs to warm it up) you may tolerate it better... let me know how it goes!! Yes this is normal. The important thing is to measure this early out. You will find that things like Soups, yogurt and soft foods slide through much easier leaving you room for more. Dense Proteins like meat, fish, cheese will actually fill you up faster and keep you full longer. I find that Greek yogurt definately stays with me much longer than regular yogurt, same with cottage cheese. This is why it really is important to measure your foods, figure out what is a slider for you and stay away from them. Especially during the first year which is considered the honey moon period.

Bone broth is really good for you! As far as a little but if something warm, Trader Joe's has low sodium choices that are yummy. You could add some Greek yogurt to it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Green Spot / Sweet Spot - How do you know?
Julie norton replied to Treadmillwalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My take is this is your band training you! It is a difference having consequences .....vs eating with abandon anytime.(banded 12/06) I hope you can figure out what is the right amount for you to feel " not hungry". (Took me a long time to get the difference from full) We all just try to learn and respect the band hopefully. Good luck and keep posting Maybe the next fill will be just right. Please try to not count on rejecting/productive burping(pb) your food. As a vet, I do know that an irritated band is not happy... it takes me days of yogurt, cheese, softer food to let my band rest -

I am on soft solid stage 1. Greek yogurt, fat free re fried Beans or beans chewed really well, pudding, Protein shakes, scrambled eggs, cheese. I was told to try 1 new item per meal to make sure that my body can handle it. In 3-4 days I progress to soft solids stage 2, ground beef, lunch meat, chicken, cooked veggies. That is my life for the first month!! They said to take a small bite, chew really well and wait 1-4 minutes to make sure that your body is accepting the texture. It should take 15 mins to eat the few oz of food at each meal! Good luck on everything!! SW:327 CW:239 GW:155 Heather in Texas -
Wedding dinner advice...
Armygalbonnie replied to Merm12210's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I know I'm going to have trouble finding something to eat, I take a Premier Protein shake with me. Not much fun but it's on program and it keeps me from eating something that may cause me to fail. At 2.5 weeks out, you can't take any chances eating a texture that your Dr. hasn't approved. It's way too dangerous! I was on purred foods at that time, and I primarily stuck to cottage cheese, yogurt and tuna salad. There's no way I could have handled any more texture than that. Good luck tomorrow!
