Pureed food stage
sasharbinx replied to HeidiSue2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mushy peas and carrots is agreeable for me during the puree phase. It seems to be holding up in my stomach alright. I've hurled previously mistakingly jumping the gun with a small bowl of pho (noodles, broth, soft tofu), those noodles went in and came running out of my system just the way they came. I'm happy to stick to purees if it means not hurting myself! Same thing happened with 2 oz of tuna salad that I think I ate a little too fast... I felt like bulimic person. Gross stuff. So yeah back to just mushy peas and carrots, peas and cottage cheese (not sorry if that's a weird combo, savory to me), and Protein shakes, Jello, broth, yogurt, popsicles, propel, crystal light. All stuff in my kitchen. -
Pureed food stage

I use unjury unflavored Protein Powder. I buy it from their website. Besides mixing it in things like yogurt, Soups, refried Beans, etc, you can mix it in drinks like Crystal Light, Powerade Zero and decaf iced tea. -

Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've posted, largely because I've been pretty busy enjoying my new life. But Lately I've been a bit worried that I may be on the edge of losing too much weight! I just stepped on the scale and weighed in at 198. I peaked a few years ago at 380 and my surgery weight was 351 this past May, so eight months ago. That is over 150 pounds lost in eight months! I had been feeling pretty good with good energy. But I had some knee surgery (which I had previously written about in this forum) a couple weeks ago and am now in a pretty poor state of mind. I'm sure it is a combination of painkillers and general post-surgical lethargy and depression from sitting all day, but man do I feel weak. I feel like a bag of bones with a lot of gross saggy skin! Should I be concerned tht I've lost too much too fast? How do I slow this down? I still can't eat anything to speak of. For example today I had a single serve container of Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast, a 16 oz. bowl of chicken soup for lunch and two squares of pizza for dinner. I had a snack of three triscuits and a slice of cheese. Most days I also have a protein shake but am out today. I literally can't eat more than this. Anyone else been here? Anyone have any suggestions on how to slow this train down? I can't get out to the dr. until I have this cast removed and am approved to drive, probably another three weeks or so.

I'm starting my soft food stage this weekend. The menu I was given says I can have poached salmon, scrambled eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese. These are all things I can't really eat without getting nauseous. I was wondering if you could give me suggestions of what else I could eat that is soft, even if it is carbs. I know I don't need these things, and once I'm on my regular diet and can eat whatever, I have a strict meal plan and gym plan for myself, but for now, I'm just trying to get by and keep things in my stomach. Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Complications from advancing diet too soon
OKCPirate replied to Frenchie1977's topic in Rants & Raves
Wow. As a nurse, that makes me suspect some very unclear communication, either on the part of the surgeon/staff or on the part of what you understood. My surgeon has one of the most liberal diet progression plans I've seen, and she knew from our conversations that she could give me the written lists and some general guidelines and I'd know what to do with them because I'm an RN. She started me on full liquids - which on her plan includes jello, pudding, and greek yogurt and a couple of other pudding consistency items - on day 2 after I kept clear liquids down fine on day 1 coming out from surgery. There was no negotiation on that for the first 2 weeks until my first checkup. Protein shakes, and the things on the full liquids list, period. She entirely skips the puree phase, as she says it's not functionally much different from the soft/mushy foods phase if your teeth work well, and most people hate it and aren't compliant. So I had a list of soft foods that I could START introducing after my 2 week checkup. One food at a time, from the softest and moistest foods first working my way to firmer consistencies. One new food at a time, tested a couple of times before adding another new food. This was for no less than another 2 weeks. At my 4 week checkup, she allowed me to start adding in "normal" foods, except for a list of problematic foods such as raw veggies and things with seeds or small hard particles. Those were allowed after 6 or 8 weeks, I forget. I didn't actually try any of them until well after 2 months. But again, it was adding ONE food at a time, trying it several times before adding another. So if your surgeon really said just "try foods as tolerated" then s/he failed to clearly communicate what the goal of the progressive diet is, and what you're trying to accomplish. That sounds like you can try all the foods in each phase for a day or two and if nothing causes a problem, go on to the next and you're on solids in under a week. Even if that's what s/he *said*, it is very doubtful to me that is what s/he *meant*. Doctors are not the greatest at patient education, it's not generally in their training. A surgeon who is truly advocating progressing the diet that rapidly has very likely not been doing it long enough to lose a patient to a leak or abscess. That is REALLY good stuff. Well done, well communicated. If gives you a why as well as the what. May I suggest you copy that and put it in the pre-op section with, the horrible warning from the OP? Between the two, this is 90% of your first six weeks post op. -
I think he's just trying to be nice. I would nicely say, next time you stop by to grab a shake, can you get me a greek yogurt or maybe a Vitamin Water. Just ask for a healthier alternative. My husband is "naturally" thin as well and whenever he picks up dinner or snacks, I'll ask for something healthy and we eat together. It's not about what we eat, but about us sitting down to eat together as a family.

Marinerman replied to missmarthak31's topic in Gastric Balloon Forum
I'm eating yogurt on my 4th day. Lots of Water. I even had an Americano espresson. Fruit with veggie popsicles. I'll grab some Jello today. Lots of liquids; coconut water; tea and water. Everything seems to be going much better than the first day I did this. I'm breaking in pretty well -
When I was on soft foods I relied pretty heavily on my Protein Shakes, but my typical day would look something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Morning snack: string cheese Lunch: Protein shake or leftovers Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt or cottage cheese Dinner: an actual recipe, like Shelly's Baked Ricotta Late snack: Protein shake Dinners and lunches were my times to be creative. I would look for bariatric recipes online. This site has tons of great ones: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/

Hello In the morning I make a protein shake, or have a small half of English muffin with egg and try to have the other half a little bit afterwards if I don't vomit it. There are days I can have eggs and there are days I can't. I try to have cheese , crackers, fruits and yogurt. I have chicken soup at times and veg here and there but I feel too full.

22 days post op sleeve and feeling awful
JamieLogical replied to dmb16's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You mention soup and yogurt. Are you not drinking your protein shakes? Protein and water are the most critical things right now. Are you taking your vitamins? -
For the last few days I've felt more and more 'odd' I want to sleep all the time as I'm exhausted after just one visit to the shop. I have no appetite for anything but forcing myself to eat Soup s and yogurt. I am ok with Fluid but only ice cold tap Water which I'm having sips of through the day. My weight has remained the same for two days now. I had a sweat for no real reason this morning whilst out shopping and felt really nauseous so came home and went to bed. Anyone else feeling the same or am I doing something wrong ? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Not doing this puréed thing right...
Armygalbonnie replied to Vee16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cottage cheese is easily tolerable. I also ate Greek yogurt, a little non-fat refried Beans with plain yogurt on top. Ricotta bake is good but don't go too heavy on the sauce because it may cause more acid this early out. I didn't get very adventurous as I was still trying to adjust to food being in my stomach. -

I am day 9 post op and I agree that I have had hunger, I found Greek yogurt helped a bit more than a shake, I don't know if it is just that it is a little thicker Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Suggestions needed..............
hmm33502 replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How about some fat free refried Beans (I like the refried black beans) with some plain Greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream and has protein), salsa, some lean ground beef and a bit of cheese. Keep it lean with ingredients, but beans have protein! Maybe with a few "juicier" ingredients the bit of ground beef will sit better? I created a high Protein, low sugar custard-like dessert that tastes like coconut cream pie, if you are interested in sweet. Easily 10-15g protein in 1/4c. Getting Anxious / Pre-Op Diet
zizi_tops replied to GregMedic51's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is January 31st, I have a BMI of 44 and I have to be on the clear liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery as well. No pre-made Protein shakes either. I have to make them myself with Water. I'm starting to think that the pre-op diet depends on your surgeon. Cuz it's varies with each person you talk to. I'm starting my diet a week early so I can get accustomed to it. I'll start with having Greek yogurts and pre-made shakes and hopefully in a weeks time, the clear liquid diet won't be so bad. Not doing this puréed thing right...
hayleyf3706 replied to Vee16's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today I made an awesome refried bean puree. Put half a can in the processor with 1/3 can beef broth, lime juice, cumin, garlic, and cheese. Heated it up and ate about 1/2 cup. I've also been enjoying yogurt! I just recently entered the puree phase. -

I'm 5 days post-op. I'm allowed to eat yogurt and I add a little milk to thin it a bit and put in a little Protein powder. It helps when I feel like I'm in need of "food." Sent from my SM-N900V using the BariatricPal App -

Haven't eaten since surgery, is this normal?
bleonhardt replied to Vixxey's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Totally normal!! I also stayed on clear liquids for a week until I could tolerate more. And even then a 6 oz yogurt would take 4 to 5 hours to eat!!! Just keep getting all your liquids in so you do not dehydrate yourself and every day try something new...you will get there promise! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App -
When Does Hunger Kick In?
TheGirlInThePinkScarf replied to TheGirlInThePinkScarf's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program wants me to stop with shakes by now and to get all of my protein from food, so that's why I'm worried about my lack of eating. I get nauseous still and I can only eat a few bites of anything (except yogurt which of course I'm now getting tired of) before I get full, so I'm not coming close to meeting my protein goals right now.
