  1. I also brought up the subject of a liquid diet having read it here. Thinking it would be a two week thing. Well, he said "If you WANT to do a liquid diet then you can do HMR 500." So, yes a 500 cal. special diet that had to be purchased from the hosipital. I spent $230 and after 5 days of losing no weight (I had been losing on my own); being super obsessed with food (was not previously), and having a reaction to the shakes I gave up. I went back to my own diet. In 7.5 months I lost 52 pounds; before surgery.

    Confused about pre-op diet

I am on day 5 of my preop diet. It is required by my doctor for all patients regardless of BMI. I was very nervous that I would be starving and cranky. I feel that this whole process is a journey and at this point it was my turn to step up and follow the program. I am not saying that I havent had moments of thinking of food. However something has come over me in the last 5 days. I feel like I am GAINING CONTROL. For the first time in 13 years I have control over food. I am down 9 points already and it could be water weight or whatever but I am in control. Dont look at the preop as a chance to fail but a real chance at success.
  3. Guess who just bought her first pair of size 6 jeans? THIS GIRL! I'm so excited! I went to Marshalls last night to find some shoes but I had to try on at least 16 outfits first and a few bras (more on that later). I was specifically looking for a pair of skinny jeans so I could wear my boots with them. I grabbed 1 pair of 6s and 4 pairs of 8s. One pair of the 6s from the Limited was so tight but dangit I sucked in and buttoned those suckers. The 8s were all too big except for one pair so I tried them on again. They fit everywhere but had a little stretch to them. I was thinking maybe they were a 9-10 and I was going to see if I could find the same cut in a smaller size but NOPE upon reading the tag in the pants, instead of the little plastic piece on the hanger I find they are a 6! ME? A 6! Hells yeah! This is the size I always said I didn't want to be. You know...that crap that spills out of your mouth when you deny wanting to be skinny? "I'm going trying all the deserts. I never wanted to be a size 6 anyway!" Size 6 was me saying that the person was probably anorexic and way too thin. It was a word to describe a size I couldn't ever fathom myself being. Here I am though! I'm at 158.6lbs down from 282 (highest) or 271 (surgery weight). I'm 3.6 lbs from being "normal" and 8.6 lbs from goal weight. I'm so excited! I'm now looking for plastics. #1 Tummy tuck panni removal #2 Boob job! Speaking of boobs...had to find a new bra last night. Preop bra was 44/42 E/F depending on bra and now I'm 36 C/D depending on bra again. The thing is, there's no filler just skin. I could fill in for National Geographic photos for real. I need to find a bra with a little push up at the bottom but still doesn't have me spilling/puckering out the top or sides. Getting my hair dyed on Saturday and going to an "ugly christmas sweater" part that night. I'll be sure to post lots of pics as my avatar was 16lbs heavier than I am now. BTW got out of Marshalls with 1 bra, 2 sweaters, a pair of jeans, 2 sexy undies (you're welcome hubby), and a godiva dark chocolate bar for under 70 bucks. SCREW YOU LANE BRYANT!

    Stuck

I am 5 weeks out and I'm doing one egg, a Protein Shake, with a little Isopure thrown in, 1.5 ounces of tuna and maybe a sugarf-free pudding and 1/2 cup of skim milk and I'm hitting about 400-450 calories a day and I been the same for a week. I have been walking 1-2 miles a day, water walking 1-2 hours a day and lifting weights or doing the gazelle. Yesterday I did the Firm interval training (not at the same impact as on the dvd) and I did not do the stomach exercises, plus swimming and I was up a pound today. I also am having issues going potty, though I started back on metamucil. It happens, not happy about it, I'm hoping that in the next day or two I'll experience the nice 3 pound drop that I have been getting accustomed to. I usually stay the same a few days, and then struggle up and down a pound then I have a significant 3 pound drop then go back to the same old same old. It seems my body is doing the same darn thing it was doing pre-surgery when I was on on the high protein- low carb. Eventually my body is going to have to let go because there is no natural way for me to maintain my weight on less than 460 calories a day.

    Confused about pre-op diet

Lol. Starvation..not so much. It is a challenge though. The purpose of the pre-op diet is to reduce the body fat from the liver and the stomach, to shrink the liver and to overall increase the amount of Protein in your body that will help keep your muscle tissue protected once you do start to lose weight post-op. This way you're losing fat not muscle mass.

    Surgery Date

It truly is, the weight has dominated too much of my life. I'm ready to move on to new things and not always have this wearing on me. Tired of the diet roller coaster, I've gone from my highest of 217 and managed to get myself down to 156 only to go back up to 195! All the while running at least 3-4 times per week. I finished two half marathons last year and gained weight while training for them! My problem is food and portion control, I need help getting a handle on it. I truly believe this is my chance and I'm taking it, taking back my life!

    Stuck

I only lost 26 pounds since the day I had surgery - but then again when I weighed myself 6 days after surgery I was up 6 pounds so it's 32 pounds. I'm 5 weeks out. I think our bodies also need to get to used to the "new stages". I am behind most people on the food stages, I just hit pureed phase Monday and I'm not doing as well with it because I guess I got used to liquids and Pureed is a little harder on my body. I'm suppose to hit soft foods come Sunday and it's causing me anxiety. Good luck, it will come off though, I promise you, and trust me as positive as I try to sound, I still cuss under my breath when I read the scale and see no drop. Since this morning the scale was moved out a bit (my husband likes to stub his toe on it in the bathroom - or my son moves it) I internally blame it on it being out of whack. Of course, there are days I am tempted to reweigh myself throughout the day, after a heavy exercise, but when I do I am normally frustrated because I seem to gain a pound after lots of exercise. I need to just weigh myself after the first morning piddle or throw away the scale or hide it. The thing I normally do when I have this issue is measure myself. Seeing the inches melt when I measure myself makes me feel so much better.

    Gallbladder Issues?

Having gall bladder problems is very common after WLS. Most people end up having their gall bladders out. The told me in the hospital that rapid weight loss causes gall stones. Gall bladder surgery was much more painful that either my band or my sleeve surgery.

    Need help ;)

I really believe your personal goal weight is where YOU feel most comfortable and where you are free of comorbidites associated with extra weight. Go with your gut (no pun intended). -Kendra

    Realistic expectations??

Everyone is different when It comes to weight loss. I have around 150 pounds to lose right now. The Doc told me I would lose almost all of it with Gastric and about 90 pounds with the LapBand. I still think with enough hard work I can reach my goal with the LapBand.
  11. I lost 120% of my excess weight (meaning I went right down past the top of my healthy weight range to lower in that range) which just about doubles the 60% statistic. Did I work ridiculously hard? No. I just eat sensibly and well (I dont low carb, so that's not strictly necessary) and I get an hour's hard cardio most days. That's all I've done. You'd be surprised how many people get banded and then wait for it to work. That's why the statistics are so depressing. If you're willing to eat properly and exercise, there's no reason you cant get to your proper weight.
  12. I had my band out in December and my sleeve was done last week. Like you, I also have PCOS. The band removal was a super simple surgery; the sleeve surgery was a bit harder. I did gain 5lbs between the band removal and sleeve procedures. But, after I had healed from the band removal, I did go a little crazy for a week or two. If you stick to a normal, healthy diet you won't gain anything.
  13. It sounds like you are doing well. If you are vomiting though you might not be ready yet for solids or try chewing, chewing, chewing reallllllllly slow. Congrats on the weight loss, doing well!!!

    Compliments

I've never been good at taking compliments about anything, much less my weight. Nowadays I just say a simple "thank you" and that's it. Then I try to change the subject because I get embarrassed by multiple compliments from many people. Hopefully this will change in the future...we'll see.

    Compliments

I think most of us "fatties" have low self esteem. I know I do. I avoid going places because of my weight. I'm 3 weeks post op and I haven't lost enough that anyone would notice. When someones pays me a compliment for any reason, I tend to discount it because of my weight. I don't know if this gets easier as the weight goes down or not. Try to stay positive and just say "Thank you" even if you don't believe the compliment. It keeps the peace. A skinny person would never understand the feeling of being overweight.

    It's strange...

Yey Coops!!!!!!! I am so happy for you! I needed to read something like this today cause I was feeling a bit low and sick of not losing anymore weight But in the same way as you I get at least one compliment a day and that keeps me going! Keep the dress, it will keep you motivated
  19. Don't over stuff your self to the point that you are so full you want to vomit. vomiting is damaging to your teeth and esophagus. It can cause esophageal cancer if vomiting is done for a long period of time. you may want to speak to a therapist/psychologist to help with this eating disorder. My father did this and probably still does because he didn't want to gain weight but wanted to eat bad food.Prior to surgery I became desperate and I almost started to do it but didnt like the feeling. Keep making healthy food choices and Good luck.
  20. It is pretty noraml to feel bloarted you are swollen on the inside . No one who just had weight loss surgery will starve on 600 cals a day so don't worry just follow the plan and drink your proteins as best you can as you heal you will be able to get more down . It takes time hang in there..
  21. Holy cow! Well done. I lost most of my weight pre surgery as I had to do clear liquids for 4 weeks before and after surgery. I'm 4 weeks out and I am already on a stall ???? my surgeon said 10lbs per month should be my goal. It's the safest way, as I don't want the saggy skin afterwards.
  22. Hello everyone, I have recently started my 6 month weight management to qualify for weight loss surgery, but I have been a bit discouraged. I have been turned down by three surgeons because of a previous pancreatic surgery in 2007. I guess my question is if someone out there has gone through something similar and can share there journey and experiences with me. Thanks in advance, Gaby

    New here.

I'm new here. I usually reside over at Obesity Help. Just found this site. I'm Kristen, 36 years old. I was banded on February 3rd, 2010, the same day my husband was. I have lost 39 pounds of 88 total. Starting weight: 225, current weight: 186, goal weight: 137. I just ran my first 5k on Saturday. The couch to 5k program really works!

    Lower BMI

I just had my surgery on Aug 21, 2017. When I went in to see the doctor the beginning of July, I was 31.8 BMI, 174lbs, 5'1". My doctor only put me on a 3-day pre-op diet, and on surgery day I was 31.1 BMI, 170. It has now been 35 days, and I am down 17lbs. I am so glad I did this surgery. I was afraid the doctor would tell me no when I first went in, but he was completely understanding and agreed it was better for me to get it done now before I was 40 BMI. I should also add, I did not have any co-morbidities. He gave me other options like lap-band and the balloon, but after much research, I decided gastric sleeve was a better option because it is permanent. I didn't want a temporary fix, because I knew once I lost the weight, I would have a really good likelihood of gaining it back once these devices were removed. I had such an easy surgery and recovery. The only issue was the bloating from the CO2 gas they use to blow up your body cavity....and that was just discomfort...not horribly painful. Ask your doctor if he uses Exparel....that was what my doctor used in my surgical site and I really had zero pain.

    Protein shakes

You can not drink them if you want to be flabby and deficient. If you are not going to drink protein shakes, you will need to drink protein drinks and such. Protein saves your muscles while you lose weight rapidly. I bought the Nector Chocolate protein shake mix and it's awesome! You should definitely try it, doesn't taste so fake i guess. Try researching other ways you can go about drinking your 40-60 grams a day of protein. Ask your nutritionist.
