    My revision story

Hello there. So I had a LapBand to VSG revision on Thursday, December 5. I had no problems except some gas pain in my shoulder and I was very sore. My concern is that I have had NO issues drinking. Like none. When I woke up, I was dying of thirst and they had the little cups lined up and two of the small bottles of water on the table. On the marker board, it said "sip sip sip every 15 minutes". I sipped slowly; no issue. Then again, no issue. Within a couple of hours, I had both bottles of water gone. I was discharged around lunch time the next day. I drank 2 cups of beef broth in about an hour, but that's because I was just sipping on it like coffee as I watched tv. I have also drank multiple 12 ounce protein shakes, pudding cups, jello cups etc. My mom had VSG about 18 months ago and said that it would take her an entire day to drink one protein shake. I was thinking that maybe they took the LapBand out but something happened and they didn't do the sleeve. I called the Dr. office this morning and the nurse verified that I DID have the band removed and the sleeve procedure. I told her that I have NO restrictions when it comes to drinking. Oh, I also ate an entire can of cream of chicken soup, thinned down with milk, in about the amount of time it would take someone who had not had bariatric surgery. I feel like something isn't right. Anyways, the nurse said "well, it is probably because you had the band for so long (10 years) and you have been restricted for so long that you don't know how your actual anatomy is supposed to behave." That seemed like a super weird response to me. I know I am rambling on BUT my concern is that maybe my surgeon didn't make the sleeve as small as they are typically made. I am afraid that maybe he was too conservative with the sleeve and that I won't get the benefits of the revision. I am just wanting SOMEONE to tell me that they had a similar experience but that they have lost weight and that once they started eating solid food, they could feel the restriction. Like I said, my mom had it done about a year and a half ago and she can only eat a cup of food in one sitting. I am so afraid this surgery was a waste of time.

    Easy rule of thumb

I saw my surgeon and team last week and got some good info on calorie and carb limits and it gave me a great idea. I came up with a rule of thumb for my food. 10 calories per gram of protein and more protein than carbs and I can eat it! Why? I need 70 grams of protein and 700 calories a day so as long as I'm getting 1 gram of protein in with each 10 calories I eat it shouldn't be an issue! Carbs and Protein both have 4 calories per gram. If you have a food that has more carbs than protein then chances it it won't fit this rule of thumb. This won't work for everyone obviously but I wanted to share it as I know looking at nutrition facts can be daunting at times!

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Good Monday morning! ((hugs)) on the bloated tummy. My #2 train has been playing fast and loose with the train schedules. It keeps sending partial trains down the track thinking I will be fooled. But yeah...this isn't my first time conducting. LOL. So I feel ya on the hard tum! I was really good except for too much booze this weekend - until last night. We had fam over and I made our dad's meatballs and sauce, had a skinny Manhattan with orange bitters and had 2 glass of cab over the course of the evening. I have been up and down between 130.8-132. This morning I'm back at 131.4lbs. And yet...I know full well I have at least 1 more pound up north, stuck somewhere on the tracks. Let's just say with all the greens I've been eating, input is NOT anywhere equal to output. LOL. Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 Maintenance: 57y / F / 5'4" / 22mo PO RNY / 131.4lbs B1-Flubber Protein Frappaccino #3 (thank god it's gone!) Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 8 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 115.5 lbs ---------------------------------------- I was feeling bloated yesterday, which I suspect was from the snack overload the day before that, so I made a conscious effort to cut back on carbs and drink lots of water. 5. I was moved to purees end of week 2. I noticed that my stomach cramps at anything not liquid. After 10-15 minutes of cramping, it stops and I just feel full for an hour (and much happier). Is this typical? Doesn't matter what the puree is! I have an extremely difficult time burping and I think air may play a role here. Second, I can drink liquids without ever getting full. 8-10 oz an hour...maybe even more. I definitely get full on 3oz puree, but water or protein drink is simply this bottomless pit with no resistance. I accidentally gulped water after a walk out of habit, braced for the overflow, and found it went right on through anyway. Also typical?
  6. My surgeon told me to move on to puree after 5 days. He said because I was so young (19) my body would heal a lot faster. Everyone is diff. Listen to your surgeon Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Am I losing my mind...

So I was warned prior to RNY surgery to be aware of the emotional changes that come along with all the changes your body is going through. So, for the most part things have been good. No real emotional issues, supportive family. Surgery was 9-18-19. I am -62lbs. I am very proud of it. My family seems to be proud too, but my husband is like a double edged sword. He says I look good, but then complains if I ask to get a pair of jeans that fit better, or the fact that I need new underwear, or just looking at cloths in general. All of the sudden he hates every thing I say I like or really want. He says my tastes have changed... duh, Im dressing for different body size and type. I am not even in the plus sizes anymore. I am still dressing modest, not showing off skin... but seriously. I wanted a pair of boots, (western boots) he said why, you havent worn them before.... that is BS prior to gaining all of my weight I was jeans, t shirt, boots or tennis shoes all the time. Why all of the sudden is what style of cloths I like or want such a big issue? And its not just cloths... Family asking what I want for Christmas... I give suggestions then he huffs and puffs and is like ewe, why would you even like that? From patterns of dishes, to patterns on cloths, purses, shoes, wall hangings... WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG? Why is nothing I like acceptable anymore? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hurts to drink water

If you are taking sips from a big glass I wonder if you ate sipping more than you realize. Do you have any shot glasses or a liquid medicine cup? Maybe try filling one up half way and sip from that so you can see if you can tolerate a half ounce, 1 oz etc. set a timer and refill it every 10 or 15 minutes. you buy the premade sugar free jello containers and “eat” a spoonful but almost let it melt in your mouth too.

    December Surgery dates???

10 days til surgery! I feel like I'm starving today. Just had my 3rd shake, and feel like I could eat a whole pizza! I have my final nutrition appt tomorrow, so knowing that I'm getting weighed in is helping me stay on track. This is the first day I've been tempted to cheat. Ugh! I've spent most of the day in my bedroom, just to stay away from the kitchen. My poor family must think I'm ignoring them! LOL!

    When eating...

yes. Even 10 months out I can make the same meal I eat multiple times a week that is maybe a 1/2 cup worth of food but sometimes I can't eat that last few bites and I still feel like I should finish the plate. I have to stop and put it away for later or toss it.

    December Surgery dates???

Well 3 days the other side of it, not feel great but better than I thought it would be. Sip, walk, gas xtabs walk some more. Down 10 plus pounds of gas and pound and half must have been my stomach, lol. Onward sipping 3-4 ounces an hour. Sleep intermittently, sip, potty sip, sleep.
  15. Hi there, I'm 10 days out and am getting excited and nervous. I am marinating on the permanent implications of what I'm about to do. I am also choosing to focus on the gains - that being my health - over the losses that I feel I am going to grieve. If you've had the surgery, what is your best piece of advice or thought? Thanks, Red

    Count down...

Hi there and welcome, those 10 days will go by very quickly. Hope it all goes will for you.
  17. I'm so happy that I found this place.....wahoo. I am 10 day to my revision From lab band to sips. So here's my story an I'm stickin to it lol. In 2005 I got my LB. My HW ever was 340 SW 270 LW 215 My CW 232 Because I've been on my per-OP for a week. Last week was 247.8 My first yr out I got to 215 My band was awesome.I had hit the sweet spot an life was amazing. Then in 2017 I got rear ended at a stop light an it broke my neck in 5 places an my back in two. Plus it tweaked my LB. I had to have it emptied. Never found my sweet spot again. [emoji26] My weight has bounced all over the place for the last 14 yrs. So I started doing research an decided I needed something with malabsorption. Cuz I really cant eat that much for the pass 8 yrs I have been at 236ish. I am very grateful for my LB. It has helped me to never see 340 again. But alas I must move on an get rid of the last 100lbs. Not feeling full

I had my sleeve done on 11/15/19. Thank y'all for giving me good advice about measuring and good info pertaining to not feeling full! I didn't think about the nerves thing 🤦 I don't know why but it makes so much sense. It's also hard to eat small meals throughout the day because I also don't feel hungry often at all so im thinking that might be normal the first few weeks as well?

    The Maintenance Thread

okay, so I’m in my last 2 days of vacay (which started immediately after thanksgiving) needless to day, I’m loving the fact that I’ve relaxed my standards the last 9 days, but I’m honestly ready to “get back on the wagon” im already planing a 24 hour fast for Monday/Tuesday as I travel back home then I’ve got 2 Pilates classes scheduled and I’ve set an alarm on my phone to hit the treadmill Texted my daughter a grocery list of 5-6 must-have foods that I normally eat (she has my extra bank card in her wallet in case of emergencies) so I’ll arrive home with some very healthy options first thing Tuesday am when it’s time to break fast. I have no idea what I’ve lost or gained since Iast weighed myself about 10 days ago. Don’t plan on weighing til Wednesday am. anyone else wanna join me on a fast Monday?

    Food Before and After Photos

Okay, so still vacationing, and this is the first time I’ve even tried breakfast (10:30am local). lol, didn’t eat very much.... PS. Mostly I’ve eaten high protein, low carb, but today is Big XII championship game and we got to the sports bar early to claim a good spot. Gotta admit that the tots are currently not sitting well and I’ve got a greasy film in my mouth from them.

@Dreashall Mine is 12/10, 3 days from now! I guess I'm stressed about it because I am sleeping very poorly and wake up with headaches. Pre-op diet is going OK. Just want to get on with it. Best wishes for your procedure and new life. Jan

Weigh gain - 3 years post op

I think there are many roads to the same truth. Love all the advice. Congrats on making the decision to take charge of the regain now while it's only 10-15lbs! Check out this poll and give your feedback if you think you'd be open to this? I honestly would go back to Bari Basics of your Forever Diet post surgery. That's the forever stage or highest stage. As @Healthy_life2 said, it's very important to clean house. Get rid of the crap in your pantry and fridge if possible. And if you live in a mixed house, see what you can do to sequester the crap to one spot that is not if your line of site! A separate cabinet or file drawer or fridge! Detox off the crap, especially sugar and white foods. 1. Food log, plan, weigh, measure EVERYTHING that goes in your mouth, good and bad. 2. Protein first. Meet your protein goals each day. 3. Lo glycemic veggies are next. (Low Carb Keto Veggies) 4. A tiny bit of healthy fats to help with satiety and vit/min absorption. 5. Drink 100oz of fluid per day (a good amount of it water). 6. Take your vitamins and minerals daily. 7. Get back to walking and then to your forever exercise program. 8. Keep foods SIMPLE-try to avoid super caloric, super gratifying foods. I think they make you eat more and cause hunger quicker. Stick to dense lean clean proteins and al dente veg and if still hungry low glycemic berries or underripe apples/pears in small quantities. 9. Weigh daily and take your measurements. 10. Deep breathe, do comedy therapy on Netflix, meditate or pray, hug your kids and fam/friends. 11. Ditch any caloric liquids other than the limited use of protein drinks. 12. Never underestimate the power of Rotisserie Chicken from Costco or Sam's.

Weigh gain - 3 years post op

The doctor put me on 2 protein shakes a day and one 400 calories meal a day. I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I did it for medical reasons, so it's a little extreme but I think you should go back to replacing at least one meal a day with a protein shake. You got this!

    December Surgery dates???

My surgery is set for Dec. 11th and I am 10 days into my liquid diet. It has been going pretty well with my energy level being fairly steady, but I look extremely haggard. I have really dark circles under my eyes that came out of nowhere. anyone else run into this issue???

    Resistance bands anyone?? Help!?

I bought one ($10 from Kmart) which is rope like with handles and a door attachment thingy. (I like it better than the flat strip ones you wrap around your hands which I used to use at Yoga.) I don’t like the whole gym thing so I thought I’d try the bands instead. They’re great for toning but i think if you want to build muscle weights are the way to go. I’ve noticed some toning in my biceps after a couple of weeks which is what I wanted. I just put together my own routine after watching a few you tube videos. Good luck.
