  1. Banded 09-03-08 and I'm down 33 pounds - Yippeeeee!! The incontinence is one issue I am proud to say has disappeared - Amen!!! Not sure exactly when it resolved itself during the last three weeks, I just all of a sudden realized that I it was not a problem! One of those NSV's people talk about on here!!

    Stuck on fish?

Anyone else have an issue getting stuck on fish such as salmon and other meaty fish? I tried to order this a few times at business lunches and it's not been successful. I have learned to slow down and take small bites so it's not a complete stuck episode but I have to go to the bathroom and lean over to get it to go down. This last fill that I got last week is really giving me restriction. I have to be very mindful (not a bad thing!) of what I eat now.

    surgery tomorrow

Good Luck tomorrow. It is a tough first couple of days and then it gets easier. 5 weeks post-op here and loving it!
  4. This is my first time here. I'm one week post op lap banding and feel great. I've had no problems so far i weighed 322lbs the week before my pre op and now weigh in at 304lbs weight loss of 28lbs:clap2: . I was banded by Mr. Leeder at Derby City Hospital and wish i had been able to have this op years ago. Hope to speak to you all soon

    Finally!!! I love my band...!

Thank you for this post. I have been lurking on this site for the last couple of weeks and I have not posted in a while because I do not know what to make of my lapband. I started out loosing and then I just started gaining weight. I have lost and gained the same five pounds over the last two months I know. I had my first fill in June and I do not have any restriction. I am not scheduled to have my second fill until the 13th of August. I am working out at least three times a week by doing tae bo and weights. This is probably why I have not gained more than the same nagging five pounds. Anyway, thanks for posting something positive that I can look forward to. I am not discouraged with the band, just being patient and looking forward to the time when I have good restriction.
  6. I can't wait to get sleeved! I am trying so hard to get stronger for the surgery, hoping a nice little bonus would be a few lbs knocked off the scale, but no such luck. Poop.
  7. Hello, I've been on her for a few months but haven't really posted much but have read a whole lot. My surgery date is this Thursday May 20th. I'll be getting the gastric sleeve revision. I got banded October 2012 & had little success. Lost about 25#'s initially & then nothing more. I struggled with the band & never truly was able find the 'green spot'. I ended up getting to tight & had a good portion of the saline taken out. My surgeon's 'bedside manner' was horrible & I did not want to go back but I did. I ended up talking to a new younger surgeon & he told me I HAD to stay with the other asshat surgeon. I refused. I continued to struggle with what I believe is port pain or possibly where I'm banded & decided to pursue the sleeve with another Bariatric center. I'm so dang glad I did!!! My insurance denied me TWICE & the waiting game SUCKS but I know it will be worth it in the end. I just got notified last week that I'm APPROVED... Stoked but a ball of nerves!!! Excited for the journey ahead

    New To Forum :)

I've been on a full liquid diet since my surgery on the 13th. I've been able to have 98% fat free cream soups (strained), SF pudding, instant mashed potatoes. I was told I could also have cream of wheat, but found it just sat in my little gogo gadget tummy so I'm going to put that on the shelf for a couple more weeks. I found that a little bit of mashed potato with a few teaspoons of 98% FF cream of chicken soup over it is very yummy - just like potatoes and gravy. I'm onto the mushy stage on Thursday and cannot wait - I can't handle any more protein drinks !!!!

    Dizziness

I had a couple dizzy spells in my first few weeks. I never figured out why but it got better.
  10. I have been doing really well since I had the surgery on May 15th, but these last couple of weeks I feel myself getting off track. Trying new foods and struggling with protein. Really could use some advice on getting back on track and being focused!

    Anxious to hit the gym

I'd highly recommend checking with your doctor, especially for the heavy stuff (deadlift is something that I could see increasing the intrathoracic pressure to the point of causing injury if you do it too soon) and the core stuff. Arms/shoulders stuff should be okay, as well as calves, but again -- ask your doc. According to my doc, at 6 weeks, the VSG incision is at 90%+ of its original strength, and after a couple months it's as strong or stronger than the original tissue, but still -- check with a doc. Your mileage may vary. And it's better to be safe than sorry; injury will sideline you for much longer than the VSG alone would.

    timeline after surgery

140 is very possible but you'd have to be ready to work out 4 or 5 times a week for an hour or more. Did you use the calculator? It tells you how many calories you burn daily just being alive. For the measurements in your profile, that would be 2,072. Add 400 to that for walking around and exercise and it is 2,472. Meaning it you kept your intake to 1,172 calories a day, you'd lose 3 pounds a week. I probably lost you in the bunch of numbers but losing 140 pounds is definitely possible.
  13. Few weeks ago I went to my bariatric eval for surgery and the psych hardly asked me any questions relating to wls at all. She focused more on my childhood, etc, by the time I got to my car I was in tears because of course bringing up my childhood memories made me cry, parents broke up when i was 5, visitation, etc. I do and have been suffering from panic attacks from 2008, I do work, I take care of my house, my kids, etc. I live every day, I dont stay in bed, rest, curl up in a ball, etc. Well she sent a message to the office that I am not mentally stable for surgery. That pissed me off completely because I was the one who said the reason I want the surgery is this and that and this, etc. Never once did she ask me any question about WLS or why, who, etc. Now I have to go for another evaluation. I'm afraid to list down that i take medication for anxiety/depression because I'm afraid I will get turned down again. When I told my therapist this she got angry because she was so shocked at someone who met me for 30 minutes can say I'm not stable for surgery. What do you all think? Should I tell it to the new Dr? Should I not mention it at all? My husband thinks I shouldn't mention it at all. Please help soooo confused :thumbup1:
  14. I had my band removed 6 weeks ago. There was a lot of scar tissue around the esophagus and upper stomach. I had symptoms of end stage achalasia, verified by manometry. The achalasia symptoms have resolved after removal. I was on a soft diet for 4 weeks post op because of the tissue being so damaged. I'm fine now, but because of the damage I cannot revise.

    Taking whole pills

I had trouble with chewables. They just tasted too much like chalk. The horse pills weren't something I could handle even before surgery. Last week someone told me about gummy Vitamins. They are amazing and taste great. My only concern with them is the sugar content. 3 grams per serving, but I have to weigh that against not taking a Vitamin.

    Pain

I was sore for about 3 days after my surgery and then I started feeling a burning sensation especially around my incisions and the left side of my stomache. It was SO PAINFUL and I could take the pain meds they gave me because it damages my liver so I just had to try to deal with the pain. I won't lie to you. It usually takes 4 weeks for the pain to go away. And whatever you do...avoid snezzing!!!

    Pain

I went through the same thing. It took me between 3 n 4 weeks to be completely fine. We're all different so don't sweat it!
  18. Hi everyone, I am so upset. I had my surgery on Thursday 10/22 and it was scheduled for outpatient meaning I could stay in the hospital if it was less than 24 hrs. Well my lb procedure took longer and the surgeon had to repair a severe hiatal hernia, and do a liver biopsy too. When I was released to go home I told the nurse I was ready to leave and she said not to worry I was just in observance and not using all the 24 hrs. Anyway when I got home today my insurance carrier sent me some standard form letter saying I was denied inpatient and they only approved outpatient. I called them and they said someone called the next day to get me inpatient status which this letter is saying they denied. I told the rep I was outpatient the whole time and she said if that was the case then it would be paid. But this letter said my inpatient status was denied. It said I would have been granted inpatient status if I had terrible pain, vomiting and nausea which I had all three of~! Has this happened to anyone else? I am so upset. Of course the hospital and the surgeons office was closed by this time. Please give me any advice and send your prayers and good thoughts my way. I am trying to put this in Gods hands but it is very hard to not worry!
  19. I am five weeks out from surgery. I'm losing steadily, and have fortunately not had any stalls that last more than a couple of days. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. Here are some of my NSVs: I had knee caps under all that padding I had to sleep last night with a pillow between my knees (I sleep on my side) because my knee bones were crunching each other. LOL. I walked laps at the hospital where I work today and not once did I feel out of breath My knee arthritis is not hurting me at all right now. Before surgery I was so in pain that I dreaded going up and down the stairs in our house. My seat belt doesn't ride up into my neck because of so much stomach and boob. It stays nicely in place. Getting out of the tub doesn't take 10 minutes anymore. I have a lap for my dogs to sit in. I am down from a 3X to a 1X and even they are starting to get baggy. My bra straps keep sliding down to my elbows (shopping this weekend!!!) I don't want to cry when I go to find clothes. I'm still in the plus size, but I know they will fit now. I used to get so upset and give up when even the 3X clothes felt tight. I'm sure there are more, but these are the things that I was excited about today. This is such a wonderful adventure. Now that I am eating soft foods and tolerating them well, I am starting to feel so much better. It's easier to get Protein in and I'm doing better with fluids. I think I'm going to make it!!! My mid-term goal is to be in regular ladies sizes when I buy a dress for my cousin's wedding in August. Hope you are all having great NSVs too! Lisa

    Exercise help!

I was sleeved on Dec 2, 2013 and started exercising when they gave me the all clear. I walk 30 minutes on the treadmill at a good clip 5 days a week, some weight machines and this ab machine and I'm down 50lbs! Just walk .. 30 minutes. Does the trick!
  21. Hi! I will be three weeks out Tuesday and am in the "soft foods" stage. Is anyone at this stage eating salads? I'm getting hungry for one; funny I never enjoyed salads that much before I was banded. I am about "softed" out..........Thanks.

    Stalled??

when i find a week where i hit a plateau i increase my calories from 1000 to 1200 for a couple of days then i go back down to 1000 calories It seems like it gives the body a shock and says start losing again. and it usually works. ive only hit one plateau so far since being banded on 12-12-07. and if i feel im eating more than i should i just ask for a fill . ive had 2 fills so far since banding and right now its working for me im down 58 pounds so far so i hope it keeps going this well. hope things look up for you guys!

    Oh Thunder ME ME ME

I always like it when you're in a thread and someone totally thread Jack's with a random question about themselves that has nothing to do with the topic. Here's an example: *Thread about goal weight* Person 1: " I'd like to get to 130" Person 2: "I haven't really set a goal weight" Thread jacker: "I'm 2 weeks out and really having trouble eating and drinking because it hurts when I swallow. Why does it still hurt?" Now, I understand they may feel they have everyone's undevided attention to address the question, but for God sakes START A NEW THREAD. Okay, rant over

    Oh Thunder ME ME ME

I'm excited for everyone here, I am always amazed at everyone's determination, and this is a huge step for so many!!!! With that said I have noticed something that is really pretty rude attention seeking and here are a couple examples would be when some makes an announcement about something like being a week away from surgery and they get an attention seeker respond with a ton of me me me junk making the entire thing about themselves. Or when someone vents and they get a dramatic me me me clearly trying for a one up response. And my favorite is when something is posted up and some responds with something completely off the wall and totally about them self like a "Today is the Day" post and they get the "My surgery is in 2 weeks and I just started blah blah blah". We are here to support each other, we need to be mindful and thoughtful of others and how they might perceive your comments, and everyone's program is different, every journey is different. Everyone deserves their Thunder!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
