Tricare Standard And Already Have Band, Need Help!

Tiffykins is the Tricare Guru, but I will try to answer as much as I can. I am Tricare standard as well and I'm in DC at Bethesda. I'm having my surgery in Portsmouth because Bethesda couldn't seem to get their act together. 1. You have to have a PCM. They required it at Bethesda and Portsmouth so I'm assuming its standard across the board. Your PCM will coordinate everything and is the one who has to refer you for VSG. 2.I'm not sure about them doing a revision, but if you've been having so many complications with the band, I don't see why they wouldn't. That is something you would have to discuss with the surgeon. 3. I'm not sure about this one. I don't remember ever seeing a list of MTF's that perform Bariatrics. I already knew that WR/Bethesda had a program and I heard about Portsmouth from a friend. The most important thing is making sure you will be allowed to travel to an MTF if the one closest to you does not have a program. It took me being really assertive (thanks to a push from TIffykins) and calling Portsmouth myself and asking. I hope it works out, and you can PM me if you want to vent or talk!
  2. I started at 540 pounds and I am now at 315 pounds. I am not at goal (which is 199) but I asked my bariatric surgeon about when people got surgery because my stomach hang really bothers me already. They said I could make a consultation with a plastic surgeon and see when their recommendations were. I met with the plastic surgeon and he said I have 2 options. He said usually he recommends people to wait until goal BUT mine is so large and has been giving me so many issues with rashes and pain that he would remove the flap after my one year anniversary (Which is May 29th) but that Insurance would only pay for the surgery once and I would most likely need a revision since I still have 100 pounds to lose but I would have to pay out of pocket for that. Has anyone else gone through this and had to make this decision? I'm not quite sure what to do. I really want this flap gone because it's causing me so many issues but I don't know what to do. Also, did anyone else get the surgery and lose their belly button?? He said I would no longer have a belly button. I'm kind of excited that I get to tell people I was grown in a lab or that I'm an alien though. haha But how does it look?
  3. I had my revision from band to sleeve on 17 Dec night- the pain is in the band area of the pouch. I'm day four almost and my pain is deep. I also see some virginal bleeding with mocus- is that Normal? I'm also worried about my fluid intake I seem to be sipping normally little by little but it goes through?
  4. Hmm...i always thot the hernia was in those who got the band to sleeve revision. Crud. Now i gotta do some reading up on that too. Thanks for the heads up..

    Feel like im losing slow

I had the revision done 12-28-13 starting weight 246 and I'm now 206. I feel like my weight loss has been slow. Keep your head up and continue to move forward and we will get there.

    Question about pouch

From what I've been told once you stretch that pouch out from eating to much it will not shrink back. This is why people have to have gastric bypass revisions if they stretched it out to much and want to start over. I think this would only be necessary if you really went back to old habits. If you really want detailed information ask your surgeon about this and they can really give you the best answers. I'm only repeating what I've been told I'm not an expert. I should also say I've not fallen off the wagon I'm still on the right ride.

    Sleeve vs Bypass

I had RNY bypass 2 years ago, lost 152lbs and have been at goal since March. I chose bypass because I had gerd and that can get much worse with the sleeve requiring a revision to bypass anyway. I have had NO complications at all. I can literally eat anything that I want, not that I do. The only exception is eggs, my stomach just feels heavy when i eat them so I dont. If you get your blood work done on schedule and take your Vitamins everyday, bypass is an extremely effective surgery. By the way, you have to have your blood work done and take vitamins with the sleeve as well. Both surgeries are aggressive but effective. RNY creates a small pouch for your new stomach and reroutes which provides a malabsorption factor that assists greatly in weight loss. On the other hand the sleeve creates a banana shaped pouch and removes the other 90% of your stomach. As you can see.....both aggressive. RNY is the gold standard in WLS surgery but the sleeve is fast becoming just as popular however there is less long term data available. The important thing is to choose a surgeon you are comfortable with and do your research.

    Sleeve vs Bypass

I chose VSG in May, 2014. I had no reflux, no diabetes and no other conditions that would have pointed me towards RNY. After a discussion with my surgeon, we decided that I would do well with a restrictive only procedure. And I did, losing 130 lbs. 8 months after my surgery I started experiencing significant reflux. I had my gallbladder removed in the hopes it would help with my acid issue (I had gallstones so removal was indicated). It did not. My reflux got significantly worse and no amount of medication would help my problem (I tried every PPI on the market). I revised to RNY on 7/1/16. I can't begin to tell you what to do, but knowing what I know now, if I had any issue with acid, or had been diagnosed with reflux or GERD prior to surgery, I would never have had VSG. The acid caused damage to my esophagus and hindered my ability to swallow. While that all may resolve (it's only been 4 months since my revision), there's a chance that it might not. I was a seriously happy sleever and believe that it is on par with RNY. You can lose a significant amount of weight and keep it off. However, if I had acid before surgery, I would have selected RNY.

    Vertical Sleeve vs Band

I started out looking at lapband but then I visited the revision or failed weight loss surgery board. The more I read the more I knew that my previous first choice, lap band was now my last choice. With the complications I would have about any of the surgeries before lapband.

    Revision not enough weight loss.

Hi there, When you had your revision, did you go back through the post-op stages (liquids, purees, soft food, regular food, etc.) and did you go back to the basic diet you used for weight loss the first time?

    Band to sleeve in one?

I got revised in one surgery. I had a slip with erosion and a CRAP TON of scar tissue. It took my surgeon a bit longer for surgery (3.5 hours) because of all the scar tissue but everything went fine.

    Shoulder pain

Check out my post under left should pain discussion. My dr found that my tubing was rubbing against my diaphragm and I had to have a revision to fix my problem. Good luck!
  13. My band to sleeve revision surgery is scheduled for 2/26/16! My 2 week pre-op liquid diet starts on 2/12...That's THIS WEEK! Holy cow! I'm preparing. I have some of the Meal Replacement Soups and shakes and I'm building up to it. I'll be ready come Friday to do those 5 shakes/soups per day for the next 2 weeks. Oh, it will be HARD. Yes, it will. But I can do it! I'm ready for this.I'm so ready.

    And so it begins...

very excited for you!! ???? I can't wait for my revision, won't be til August. Good luck and congratulations!!
  15. I'm looking to revision from band to sleeve. I was banded in 2011 and never had much in terms of weight loss results. I'm hoping the sleeve will be a better solution for me. I'm self-pay so I've been researching Mexico surgeons.

    time for the last touch

Like @@shedo82773 said, you will definitely want muscle repair along with the panni. If you have had children or are "apple" shaped (store most of your fat in your stomach), then it is highly likely that fat UNDERNEATH your muscle has stretched it out (just like fat under your skin stretches your skin out) and the only way to repair that is to surgically tighten it up. You will not get as good results with a panni alone if your muscle fascia is stretched out. @@WLSResources/ClothingExch Yes, that's me in the pictures I posted. Those are from one year post-sleeve and four years post-plastics. I actually am a rare case that had plastics BEFORE my sleeve. I had lost weight "on my own" and had plastics back in 2011. Unfortunately, I regained almost all the weight I'd lost by the summer of 2014, which is when I decided to have VSG. Luckily, my tummy tuck held up well through the weight regain and re-loss. My boobs, not so much. I'm going to have to have a revision for those eventually.

    Mixed Feelings Surgery Aug 23

I had my band for 7 years and was able to revise to at sleeve last month....did your band erode into your stomach?? What caused you to desire revision surgery?? I desired mines to be removed because I wasn't losing any weight with it....had it for 7 years and lost 40 pounds to gain it back again...then my weight started to creep up.... I honestly never heard of any film....I know my doc said I had lots of scar tissue because my band was so old....my procedure took 2 hrs, instead of the 45 min a typical sleeve procedure take... If you dont understand or dont feel comfortable with him get a second opinion BEFORE having the procedure done...

GASTRIC BYPASS REVISE FROM GASTRIC SLEEVE

My surgeon's and gastrointestinal doctor said that it's absolutely going to work. I had no doubt about it until I saw this message. My reflux is severe and I am having RNY revision surgery on July 16th. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

GASTRIC BYPASS REVISE FROM GASTRIC SLEEVE

I had a revision to bypass from sleeve for severe reflux issues. I wish I had started out with the bypass in the first place. It is like night and day difference to not have that constant reflux happening.

GASTRIC BYPASS REVISE FROM GASTRIC SLEEVE

Forgot to post :Revised 7/15/19 and no issues so far 🏆
  24. If you don’t mind me asking, what is the reason for the revision? I am a rny patient. 6 yrs out. I had lost 170 pounds and now have regain 50. This puts me 100 from my goal weight. I am hoping a revision would jumpstart my weight loss again and help me reach my goal weight.
  25. Today is one year since my revision bypass surgery. I've lost 59 pounds since surgery and 95 pounds since my all-time pre-sleeve weight. I am healthy, happy and feel better than I've felt in 20 years! And the great news is - I no longer have GERD! Good luck to all of us who are on this crazy weight loss journey and I'm grateful for this forum to be able to openly share my outcomes. Other social media platforms would never understand our journeys.
