What is your latest NSV (non scale victories) ? I will start.... I have two that are huge to me. I am 4 weeks out today 1) I can wear my wedding rings again! Yeahhhh and my husband is really happy about it. 2) I noticed I was crossing my legs in church this morning without any effort. I can not remember the last time I could do that. :)

I so understand and relate to all you said. I am so excited for you! I can't wait until I can have those same NSV's!!

I just got home from the mall and had to share my nsv. It's taken a great deal of nerve for me to shop in the petite section of our local department store. I keep waiting to get kicked out for obviously shoping in the wrong section!!! lol Well today I bravely went into the more exclusive boutique section to see if I could find a deal. I was looking through some clothes and the saleslady approached me saying I was in the women's sizes and that the clothes I was looking at wouldn't fit me! I was humiliated UNTIL I realized she was telling me that I was looking at the one rack they had of plus size. She actually took me by the arm to show me where their regular size boutique clothes were!!!!! Made my day!

wow!! Best of luck to you. Praying for a successful journey for you. What an awesome NSV! God bless!

It's The Little Things.....

I thought the same thing when I originally quoted your post. Let's keep it going {down.down, down} and share our next few week accomplishments or as they say here, NSV's. -
The weekend I've been preparing for is finally here---I'm doing a 50-mile walk this weekend! 25 miles tonight (finishing tomorrow morning) and 25 miles on Sunday. I'm nervous as heck today! Along the way I've had to see an orthopedic doctor for knee pain, who says that I have some degeneration in my joints. Physical therapy and knee braces have helped a little bit, but there will be a certain amount of pain I'll just have to grin and bear. The knee braces increase the impact to my hips. I'm not supposed to take nsaid pain relievers, but for this weekend I will. I'd self-medicate with margaritas if I thought I could still keep up with the group! I would not have tried this 3 years ago when my son first did it, or even a year ago. But he asked me to participate and I finally felt like I could do it, so I did. I'll count that as a huge NSV. Wish me luck!

Size 18/20 Lane Bryant Mystery Pants Nsv
Paola posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back in 2008 I was on one of my diets, and I was 265 lbs, my aunt game me some clothes that were too big for her and she had hardly worn. In the bundle there was a pair of 18/20 Lane Bryant pant (95% polyester 5% spandex) that would not fit, fast forward 2011 and I am 380 lbs so I gave the pants to my grandmother. Back in the beginning of February my grandmother gave me the pants back, she said I haven't worn them but they look like they almost fit you. My grandma is a seamstress, and she had taken the pants in on the sides because they were too big for her, so I was skeptical, I thought she was looking at my behind with love and thought it would fit in those pants. Anyways, today I am looking for some business clothes and I found the pants in my drawer and I said let me see how much longer till they fit me. AND THEY WENT UP! All the way, they are super tight on me put they went up, I am guessing they are so tight because of the line of stitches running on both sides my grandma did for them to fit her. Why do I call them mystery pants? because according to my scale I am 277 and they fit, but when I was 265 back in 2008 they didn't fit! Doesn't matter what the scale says, I am a happy camper!!!! -

Are you just not dropping pounds? You should be looking at other things besides the scale. Take your measurements and see if you're losing inches. Are you able to do more than you could before? How is your energy level? Are you drinking enough Water? Our bodies will stop losing pounds while they adjust our measurements, or if we aren't drinking enough water. Muscle truly weighs more than fat, and, since you're exercising, you may be developing muscle. That's a great thing! Are your clothes looser? I walked out of my first size during a "stall". This last month has been so slow on loss, but I have literally watched my body adjust itself. I now have bicep and thigh muscles and I have the beginnings of a waist! I also lost three pants sizes last month! Don't let the scale rule your life. Use the other NSVs (non scale victories) to tell you if you are truly in a stall or if your body is just doing some internal housekeeping.

What an awesome NSV! I know how big of a deal this is. When I was a kid, I always wanted to eat at Big Boy because they had comics and crayons for kids. I loved that, but our local Big Boy only had booths, so my dad couldn't eat there. He was over 400 pounds. I never realized he couldn't sit in a booth until one day I was really begging to eat at Big Boy, and he had to explain why we couldn't. Booths are evil. Does anyone else watch MIke and Molly? The other day's episode had Mike, Molly and one other heavy person sitting at a booth in the diner. I missed the dialogue because I just couldn't get over the fact that they were sitting in a booth. The show gets so many things right about being overweight, and it threw me off to realize they were sitting in a booth.

This isn't a small NSV. Very cool that you were able to go out and enjoy a meal and work your sleeve. I clearly remember when I was finally able to eat REAL food again.

Going into a bathroom stall and having room to move around is probably one of my favorite NSVs. It used to be hard to even close the door on some of the smaller stalls. Congrats on all of your NSVs, Dooter!

Love the NSV's, I can relate to the bathroom issue. It is amazing how those lost pounds ma like so much easier! {amd cleaner too, lol} Keep up the great work! sleeved 12-19-2011

.but darn it, I can't think of it....what does NSV stand for? I know what it means, just can't think of the words!!!! -
I am SO comfortable with my sleeve. I have read that some people are scared or weary of restaurant dining. Not me! I have been out to eat several times and have CONQUERED the menu everytime. Today, I went to lunch with a friend that I haven't seen since surgery. We went to eat at our fave Mex rest. I ordered a carnitas soft taco lunch combo. I ate the "guts" out of my soft taco, a couple small bites of rice and 2 chips dipped in salsa. I was Stuffed and satisfied. Saturday, I was in SF with some girlfriends and we ate at a rest. on the pier. I had the grilled mahi mahi tacos. Again, I ate only the inside of the tacos, tried one of my gf's garlic fries and another gf's crab dip. Full and satisfied! The point I want to make is that it's OK to eat out. Don't feel like you need to seclude yourself at home, embarrased by how little you eat or not sure how to order your food. The conversation and time with loved ones will always trump your embarassment. I am comfortable and confident in my sleeve. I was sleeved so I can live again! I have been a professional dieter for so long (like many of you!) and I know how many calories are on a plate just by looking at it. I make sure to make healthy responsible decisions when I eat. I may have a nibble of the "bad stuff" but I don't dive in. That's the key. Don't let your sleeve hinder your decisions on life, embrace it and let it guide you. HTH!

FAIR WARNING: TMI ALERT! TMI ALERT! I had THREE consecutive nsv's today, and they all had to do with a flight to San Antonio. First of all, since the beginning of the pre op diet, then surgery, I've lost 34 pounds. Today, I saw the fruit of my labors. NSV #1: I went into the public bathroom at the airport, and the handicap stall was full, so I went into the teeny cramped one, hoping I (TMI! TMI!) didn't need to do a "twosey" because I can't reach the necessary location on my anatomy for proper cleansing unless I'm in the big stall. (I hope some of you know what I mean so i'm not a total freak!) Well, it turns out I would have had COMPLETE access to the necessary area!! HOORAAAAYYYY!!!! #2: I sat down in the airplane and BUCKLED MY SEATBELT!!!!!!! AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! AAAANNNND......... #3: Put the tray table DOWN!!! WOOOOO!!!!! UH HUH!! OH YA!!! UH HUH!!! OH YA!!! (then my day went downhill at dinnertime, but that's a different post! Still happy though!)

Fill, Full, Feel And Other F Words

Sounds great!! That is one of the things I have been thinking about like will I get full off of 2 ounces of protein and 1 ounce of veggies. It gets scary sometimes because I do not want to fail at this.. failing is not an option at this point for me. Ready for my new life March 5th here I come.. CONGRATS ON UR NSV....YYYAAAYYYY -
Don't use the word "only" in front of how many pounds you have lost. You had surgery just barely over a month ago. How many pounds would you have lost in that time without surgery? 8 or 10 maybe? That is IF you had been able to stick to some extreme diet plan without ghrelin killing your good intentions. Did you take your measurements before surgery? If so, it's time to measure yourself again and marvel at how many inches you have lost. If not, then take them now to help with future hurdles. How about NSVs (non-scale victories)? Are your clothes looser? Are you able to walk further? Work harder/longer without fatigue? Do you FEEL better overall? I know that you are having issues with getting food in, but that will resolve itself as long as there is no underlying issue. It may be time to talk to your doctor or nutritionist about what the next stage in your diet should be, especially if you haven't progressed to soft regular foods yet. Depending on your doctor's plan, that's where it sounds like you should be. Work on getting in a little bit of food every 2-3 hours, even if, as Kelly said, it's just a few nuts. Perhaps have a cup of chicken broth instead of coffee. Don't worry too hard about not getting in veggies this early post-op. You will be able to add them as your new tummy heals. Do make sure that you are taking the recommended Vitamins and supplements to make up for the veggies, though. Your weight loss could be slower than you are expecting for a number of reasons. You could have started with a lower BMI than many here, or lost a good bit of weight pre-op. Both will slow down the weight loss immediately after surgery. It's also possible that you aren't eating enough food...like that's ever been a problem before, right? But, not feeding your body enough food makes it hang onto those pounds. When you are eating enough and providing adequate hydration, it's like the body calms down and says 'okay, I can lose a few of these stored pounds'. Good luck! I hope to hear from you soon saying that you are now losing steadily.

Nsv - Back To The Things I Love.
Felicia replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! This is such a great NSV. I am super proud of you for getting out there and doing it. Many people big or small don't have the courage to get out there and do the things they want whether it be weight or other things. So good for you! -
Now that's a great NSV! Can't wait until the jacket is way toooooooo big! LOL
-
Ok, so I have this lightweight jacket (kind of like a cross between a trench and a peacoat) that I love and have been wearing for a couple of years. Ihe problem is that the sleeves are a bit tight up top and prior to surgery, they would cut into the top part of my arm--near the armpit, sometimes to the point I had to take the jacket off. I was even considering pulling some of the seam out of the armpit to make it more comfortable. Well yesterday I wore the jacket, and I got all the way to work before I realized that my arms weren't hurting! I was totally comfortable, even with a long sleeved shirt underneath! I wore it again today with a long sleeved shirt plus a light sweater, and while it was a smidge tighter--still no pain! YAY! I'm only 3 weeks out and have lost about 20lbs (including 4 pre-op), but this was a nice treat for me to feel better in clothes that have previously made me suffer. Woop-woop!

I know how you feel. The scale is difficult for me to handle so I try to limit when I use it and stay focused on all the positive changes that are taking place in my body and life. Try to find the NSV out there for you. Also you may want to start a measurement log, to track your inches. Good luck, and know that the weight will come off!
