Able to eat more than expected...

Do you eat eggs? I used to take 3 parts egg beaters, 1 part fairlife milk and 1 part cheese to make a soft scrambled egg. I also make my own Protein shakes using fairlife chocolate milk and GENEPRO. I blend it in my ninja with ice for a shake. It has a good chocolate flavor and covers up the genepro. I also add a tbs of PB2 for a change. Oikios triple zero is a decent high protein Greek yogurt if you can handle Greek. HW 385 SW 359 CW 305 Sleeved 10/5/16

Able to eat more than expected...

I can eat an 8oz yogurt and other slider foods in a single sitting but dense Protein like cheese or chicken it's more like 4. My nut said 80-90g protein (90 when exercising) and 800-1000 Cal's a day. I have had two long stalls where I gain and lose the same 3lbs, then all of a sudden lose 10lbs. I know I've been eating too much junky higher carb foods. Part of that is from feeding other non fat or no diet people. When husband gets the surgery I am going get back on a regimented diet. When husband is on pre and post op liquid diet I am going to do so as well. I think it will help him stay on track and will help "reset" me as well. HW 385 SW 359 CW 305 Sleeved 10/5/16

    Ice Cream Post Op

@@nicole1171 I got some of those yogurt tubes (Chobani has less sugar than Go-gurt, look at the labels) and stuck them in my freezer. They turn into creamy popsicles. I've also put regular yogurt into ice cube trays and frozen them. Then I'll pop out one or two and blend it with some unfrozen yogurt and Protein powder. It's more tart than ice cream, but if you want cold and creamy it'll hit the spot.

    Costco trip

Please don't over-stock on the Premier shakes. I got them for a recent weekend trip I did, just to have handy in case I couldn't "make a shake" in my room but I'm not a fan. Tzasiki, hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese and ricotta are all good puree stage foods.

  7. I am currently drinking two 8-12oz Protein shake Meal Replacements followed by one service of lean protein and a serving of veggies. They also have me stopping all Vitamins and most medication. If I'm still hungry I can have some non-fat yogurt or cheese. Then only Clear liquids for two days before surgery.

    Advice

What food stage are you in? At 2 weeks out, you shouldn't really be "exercising" yet other than "brisk walking" for up to an hour a day. Not an hour straight! An hour total. Your nutritionist should have given you info about how frequently and how much to be eating. At two weeks I was still in my full liquids phase. I "ate" 5 times a day. Three of those times were Protein shakes and the other two were things like Greek yogurt or cottage cheese.

    Question for newbies and vets?

Soups or scrambled eggs if you have to order food anywhere. Cottage cheese, yogurt, etc. if you have a mini fridge in your room. And then just lots of protein shakes!

    Question for newbies and vets?

If you have a refrigerator, I would suggest greek yogurt, cream Soups with Protein powder and cottage cheese. Everything else pretty much requires processing.

    Dumping syndrome

I have had it a few times... I get it from eating something that contained too much sugar. I get a little crampy and feel off until 30mins later I'm on the toilet with the trotters... after that I'm good. I have had it from a yogurt , ice cream, and some shitty Italian dessert. Pureed food stage

Mushy peas and carrots is agreeable for me during the puree phase. It seems to be holding up in my stomach alright. I've hurled previously mistakingly jumping the gun with a small bowl of pho (noodles, broth, soft tofu), those noodles went in and came running out of my system just the way they came. I'm happy to stick to purees if it means not hurting myself! Same thing happened with 2 oz of tuna salad that I think I ate a little too fast... I felt like bulimic person. Gross stuff. So yeah back to just mushy peas and carrots, peas and cottage cheese (not sorry if that's a weird combo, savory to me), and Protein shakes, Jello, broth, yogurt, popsicles, propel, crystal light. All stuff in my kitchen.

    Pureed food stage

I use unjury unflavored Protein Powder. I buy it from their website. Besides mixing it in things like yogurt, Soups, refried Beans, etc, you can mix it in drinks like Crystal Light, Powerade Zero and decaf iced tea.

  15. Hi everyone, It's been a while since I've posted, largely because I've been pretty busy enjoying my new life. But Lately I've been a bit worried that I may be on the edge of losing too much weight! I just stepped on the scale and weighed in at 198. I peaked a few years ago at 380 and my surgery weight was 351 this past May, so eight months ago. That is over 150 pounds lost in eight months! I had been feeling pretty good with good energy. But I had some knee surgery (which I had previously written about in this forum) a couple weeks ago and am now in a pretty poor state of mind. I'm sure it is a combination of painkillers and general post-surgical lethargy and depression from sitting all day, but man do I feel weak. I feel like a bag of bones with a lot of gross saggy skin! Should I be concerned tht I've lost too much too fast? How do I slow this down? I still can't eat anything to speak of. For example today I had a single serve container of Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries for breakfast, a 16 oz. bowl of chicken soup for lunch and two squares of pizza for dinner. I had a snack of three triscuits and a slice of cheese. Most days I also have a protein shake but am out today. I literally can't eat more than this. Anyone else been here? Anyone have any suggestions on how to slow this train down? I can't get out to the dr. until I have this cast removed and am approved to drive, probably another three weeks or so.

    Soft foods

I'm starting my soft food stage this weekend. The menu I was given says I can have poached salmon, scrambled eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese. These are all things I can't really eat without getting nauseous. I was wondering if you could give me suggestions of what else I could eat that is soft, even if it is carbs. I know I don't need these things, and once I'm on my regular diet and can eat whatever, I have a strict meal plan and gym plan for myself, but for now, I'm just trying to get by and keep things in my stomach. Any help would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Complications from advancing diet too soon

Wow. As a nurse, that makes me suspect some very unclear communication, either on the part of the surgeon/staff or on the part of what you understood. My surgeon has one of the most liberal diet progression plans I've seen, and she knew from our conversations that she could give me the written lists and some general guidelines and I'd know what to do with them because I'm an RN. She started me on full liquids - which on her plan includes jello, pudding, and greek yogurt and a couple of other pudding consistency items - on day 2 after I kept clear liquids down fine on day 1 coming out from surgery. There was no negotiation on that for the first 2 weeks until my first checkup. Protein shakes, and the things on the full liquids list, period. She entirely skips the puree phase, as she says it's not functionally much different from the soft/mushy foods phase if your teeth work well, and most people hate it and aren't compliant. So I had a list of soft foods that I could START introducing after my 2 week checkup. One food at a time, from the softest and moistest foods first working my way to firmer consistencies. One new food at a time, tested a couple of times before adding another new food. This was for no less than another 2 weeks. At my 4 week checkup, she allowed me to start adding in "normal" foods, except for a list of problematic foods such as raw veggies and things with seeds or small hard particles. Those were allowed after 6 or 8 weeks, I forget. I didn't actually try any of them until well after 2 months. But again, it was adding ONE food at a time, trying it several times before adding another. So if your surgeon really said just "try foods as tolerated" then s/he failed to clearly communicate what the goal of the progressive diet is, and what you're trying to accomplish. That sounds like you can try all the foods in each phase for a day or two and if nothing causes a problem, go on to the next and you're on solids in under a week. Even if that's what s/he *said*, it is very doubtful to me that is what s/he *meant*. Doctors are not the greatest at patient education, it's not generally in their training. A surgeon who is truly advocating progressing the diet that rapidly has very likely not been doing it long enough to lose a patient to a leak or abscess. That is REALLY good stuff. Well done, well communicated. If gives you a why as well as the what. May I suggest you copy that and put it in the pre-op section with, the horrible warning from the OP? Between the two, this is 90% of your first six weeks post op.

    Spouse issues ?

I think he's just trying to be nice. I would nicely say, next time you stop by to grab a shake, can you get me a greek yogurt or maybe a Vitamin Water. Just ask for a healthier alternative. My husband is "naturally" thin as well and whenever he picks up dinner or snacks, I'll ask for something healthy and we eat together. It's not about what we eat, but about us sitting down to eat together as a family.

New here, procedure set for Jan. 12, 2017!

I'm eating yogurt on my 4th day. Lots of Water. I even had an Americano espresson. Fruit with veggie popsicles. I'll grab some Jello today. Lots of liquids; coconut water; tea and water. Everything seems to be going much better than the first day I did this. I'm breaking in pretty well

    Fatigue

When I was on soft foods I relied pretty heavily on my Protein Shakes, but my typical day would look something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Morning snack: string cheese Lunch: Protein shake or leftovers Afternoon snack: Greek yogurt or cottage cheese Dinner: an actual recipe, like Shelly's Baked Ricotta Late snack: Protein shake Dinners and lunches were my times to be creative. I would look for bariatric recipes online. This site has tons of great ones: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/

    Weight lost- Help

Hello In the morning I make a protein shake, or have a small half of English muffin with egg and try to have the other half a little bit afterwards if I don't vomit it. There are days I can have eggs and there are days I can't. I try to have cheese , crackers, fruits and yogurt. I have chicken soup at times and veg here and there but I feel too full.
  25. You mention soup and yogurt. Are you not drinking your protein shakes? Protein and water are the most critical things right now. Are you taking your vitamins?
