    My First Nsv!

What an awesome NSV! I know how big of a deal this is. When I was a kid, I always wanted to eat at Big Boy because they had comics and crayons for kids. I loved that, but our local Big Boy only had booths, so my dad couldn't eat there. He was over 400 pounds. I never realized he couldn't sit in a booth until one day I was really begging to eat at Big Boy, and he had to explain why we couldn't. Booths are evil. Does anyone else watch MIke and Molly? The other day's episode had Mike, Molly and one other heavy person sitting at a booth in the diner. I missed the dialogue because I just couldn't get over the fact that they were sitting in a booth. The show gets so many things right about being overweight, and it threw me off to realize they were sitting in a booth.

    Small Nsv For Me

This isn't a small NSV. Very cool that you were able to go out and enjoy a meal and work your sleeve. I clearly remember when I was finally able to eat REAL food again.

    Nsv Trifecta Today!

Going into a bathroom stall and having room to move around is probably one of my favorite NSVs. It used to be hard to even close the door on some of the smaller stalls. Congrats on all of your NSVs, Dooter!

    Wow! What A Moment

.but darn it, I can't think of it....what does NSV stand for? I know what it means, just can't think of the words!!!!
  7. I am SO comfortable with my sleeve. I have read that some people are scared or weary of restaurant dining. Not me! I have been out to eat several times and have CONQUERED the menu everytime. Today, I went to lunch with a friend that I haven't seen since surgery. We went to eat at our fave Mex rest. I ordered a carnitas soft taco lunch combo. I ate the "guts" out of my soft taco, a couple small bites of rice and 2 chips dipped in salsa. I was Stuffed and satisfied. Saturday, I was in SF with some girlfriends and we ate at a rest. on the pier. I had the grilled mahi mahi tacos. Again, I ate only the inside of the tacos, tried one of my gf's garlic fries and another gf's crab dip. Full and satisfied! The point I want to make is that it's OK to eat out. Don't feel like you need to seclude yourself at home, embarrased by how little you eat or not sure how to order your food. The conversation and time with loved ones will always trump your embarassment. I am comfortable and confident in my sleeve. I was sleeved so I can live again! I have been a professional dieter for so long (like many of you!) and I know how many calories are on a plate just by looking at it. I make sure to make healthy responsible decisions when I eat. I may have a nibble of the "bad stuff" but I don't dive in. That's the key. Don't let your sleeve hinder your decisions on life, embrace it and let it guide you. HTH!
  8. FAIR WARNING: TMI ALERT! TMI ALERT! I had THREE consecutive nsv's today, and they all had to do with a flight to San Antonio. First of all, since the beginning of the pre op diet, then surgery, I've lost 34 pounds. Today, I saw the fruit of my labors. NSV #1: I went into the public bathroom at the airport, and the handicap stall was full, so I went into the teeny cramped one, hoping I (TMI! TMI!) didn't need to do a "twosey" because I can't reach the necessary location on my anatomy for proper cleansing unless I'm in the big stall. (I hope some of you know what I mean so i'm not a total freak!) Well, it turns out I would have had COMPLETE access to the necessary area!! HOORAAAAYYYY!!!! #2: I sat down in the airplane and BUCKLED MY SEATBELT!!!!!!! AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! AAAANNNND......... #3: Put the tray table DOWN!!! WOOOOO!!!!! UH HUH!! OH YA!!! UH HUH!!! OH YA!!! (then my day went downhill at dinnertime, but that's a different post! Still happy though!)

    1St "cheat"

Don't use the word "only" in front of how many pounds you have lost. You had surgery just barely over a month ago. How many pounds would you have lost in that time without surgery? 8 or 10 maybe? That is IF you had been able to stick to some extreme diet plan without ghrelin killing your good intentions. Did you take your measurements before surgery? If so, it's time to measure yourself again and marvel at how many inches you have lost. If not, then take them now to help with future hurdles. How about NSVs (non-scale victories)? Are your clothes looser? Are you able to walk further? Work harder/longer without fatigue? Do you FEEL better overall? I know that you are having issues with getting food in, but that will resolve itself as long as there is no underlying issue. It may be time to talk to your doctor or nutritionist about what the next stage in your diet should be, especially if you haven't progressed to soft regular foods yet. Depending on your doctor's plan, that's where it sounds like you should be. Work on getting in a little bit of food every 2-3 hours, even if, as Kelly said, it's just a few nuts. Perhaps have a cup of chicken broth instead of coffee. Don't worry too hard about not getting in veggies this early post-op. You will be able to add them as your new tummy heals. Do make sure that you are taking the recommended Vitamins and supplements to make up for the veggies, though. Your weight loss could be slower than you are expecting for a number of reasons. You could have started with a lower BMI than many here, or lost a good bit of weight pre-op. Both will slow down the weight loss immediately after surgery. It's also possible that you aren't eating enough food...like that's ever been a problem before, right? But, not feeding your body enough food makes it hang onto those pounds. When you are eating enough and providing adequate hydration, it's like the body calms down and says 'okay, I can lose a few of these stored pounds'. Good luck! I hope to hear from you soon saying that you are now losing steadily.
  12. Congrats! This is such a great NSV. I am super proud of you for getting out there and doing it. Many people big or small don't have the courage to get out there and do the things they want whether it be weight or other things. So good for you!

    Jacket Nsv!

Now that's a great NSV! Can't wait until the jacket is way toooooooo big! LOL

    Jacket Nsv!

Ok, so I have this lightweight jacket (kind of like a cross between a trench and a peacoat) that I love and have been wearing for a couple of years. Ihe problem is that the sleeves are a bit tight up top and prior to surgery, they would cut into the top part of my arm--near the armpit, sometimes to the point I had to take the jacket off. I was even considering pulling some of the seam out of the armpit to make it more comfortable. Well yesterday I wore the jacket, and I got all the way to work before I realized that my arms weren't hurting! I was totally comfortable, even with a long sleeved shirt underneath! I wore it again today with a long sleeved shirt plus a light sweater, and while it was a smidge tighter--still no pain! YAY! I'm only 3 weeks out and have lost about 20lbs (including 4 pre-op), but this was a nice treat for me to feel better in clothes that have previously made me suffer. Woop-woop!

    Encouragment

I know how you feel. The scale is difficult for me to handle so I try to limit when I use it and stay focused on all the positive changes that are taking place in my body and life. Try to find the NSV out there for you. Also you may want to start a measurement log, to track your inches. Good luck, and know that the weight will come off!

    Encouragment

I truly thought I'd never lose, but today I'm six months out, 85+ pounds down and feeling like a million dollars. Those stalls really kick us in the butt, though. I look hard for the NSVs or non scale victories because I know how far I have to go...but just look how far I've come already! You will get there too!!

    Nsv!

Yesterday I went shopping at Target and decided to try on some clothes just for the heck of it. Well I grabbed all plus sizes since the brands there run small and I never thought after only a few months I would be in non plus sizes. Well well. All of the 1x stuff looked too baggy, and since everything rapidly gets bigger on me now, there was no way. I ended up buying a adorable dress and an amazing skirt...BOTH sized XL. First time that's happened since High School. Danced the whole way home
  19. Today marks thirty days since my surgery, four weeks and two days. My husband and I went out to eat for the first time in over a month, and it was a success! I was a little worried about a negative reaction, but was feeling OK since I haven't had any problems at home this past week introducing "early solid foods." We went out for sushi and I ordered a miso Soup which I've been making at home, familiar territory. Then I was about to very slowly, but wonderfully eat three 1oz pieces of sashimi (sake and maguro) dipped in low-sodium soy sauce. HEAVEN! I took very small bites, chewed so thoroughly, and patiently waited between bites to check in with my belly for the full signal. The taste was amazing, so nice to have something my taste buds remember from before surgery. I felt like I could have gone for a fourth piece, but didn't want to push it. It was hard to not dive into the roll my husband got, but I kept staring at the rice like it was a sworn enemy. I did allow myself a small bite of the unagi he ordered for "desert" It was so nice to feel normal again. And I have to say, I loved my sleeve for doing it's job tonight...

    My First Nsv!

Do I ever know what you're talking about! I am sliding easily into booths now too. Another NSV is that I am 4 inched from the steering wheel that just a couple of months ago was poking me in the belly. I can look down and see my lap! Aren't we silly?
