  1. For super hot and sour lovers only. My go to Soup if I have zero calories to spare. The whole thing is 27 cal. If you like spicy, it is really good. I often add napa cabbage in it. It has konjac noodles which have super low calories, zero carbs and are a Water soluble Fiber (great health benefits for cleaning the tummy), peanuts, red pepper spice... Etc. I buy it at Yami buy (online Asian store). It's called Kon jac spicy and sour noodles by Mingzhu. I ate about 3/4. I can down a lot of soup in general ...

    Surgery gass

When people ask me what was the worst part immediately post op, I always say the gas pain. It makes you feel like your body is wrong and worry about the feeling being permanent. It goes away, I promise. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but I obsessively paced around my room holding a pillow for hours watching Lord of the Rings and the pain was gone in about 3 days. Probably not the solution but maybe walk a small area, with small steps, instead of all the way around the house. I think I also slept with a heating pad on either my back or stomach, which probably helped quite a bit.

Thank you so much. Im just in so much pain. The incision where they took my stomach out and mostly the gas. I can get up and walk fine but after like 3 minutes the excruciating pain comes back and I need to sit down and when I do the pain triples. 4. I have definitely been watching a lot of TV thankfully one of my favorite series I was able to find and it’s long so that should help, I think I just need to get through this week and then I’m on soft foods which definitely gives me a more variety of food which should help, I just wish I was stronger to do more activity than I do now, as I last about 15 mins then I get nauseous, which kinda sucks, I’m hoping that will get better as I recover, but thanks guys for the encouraging words it really does help a lot
  5. So how long does it take for the belly fat to go down. I'm 38 lb down but the belly is still here. I'm going into 3 months on December 28th 2022. Sent from my SM-A716U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. My surgeries were eye opening. I had surgery in March, where my surgeon discovered, my previous surgery was done wrong so he had to abort and close me back up. He had to assess the next steps to consider how to fix the issue he found. We made a plan and I had to wait three months for my next surgery. I had my 2nd surgery June 27th. Dr Chaisson was going to fix the issues he found the first time and do the revision. Surgery was expected to be 3 hrs but ended up being 8hrs long. This time, with a more thorough look at the anatomy, he found out my common channel was only 25cm long and my pouch was larger than expected. Both of those things mean that I never had a RNY bypass but a biliopancreatic diversion. So my surgeon had to fix the issues with my anamostasis to the pouch, resize my pouch and make my common channel longer. So it wasn't what we expected at all, my loss has been slow, but I've lost about 50lbs since June.

  8. Pic # 1: what i initially made for myself to eat. Pic # 2: what i made for myself to eat upon realizing that my unattended avocado toast plate was polished off. seriously, its getting annoying. do i need to start putting my name on things??? geez. Pic # 3: Calorie break down of #2: 226 cals of avocado, tomatoes, pate and cheese. ate it all.
  9. Thank you everyone for your input! I do notice the hiccups, and the burping, which also happens when I’m not eating too. Also I had my first post-op appt on 12/7 this week I’m on liquids and puréed stage and my surgeon told me that the sleeve can hold up to 6oz so I’ve been consuming about 1/2 cup of food which is 4oz. I bought some ramekin bowls from Amazon they have different sizes I chose the 4oz ones and they’ve been great to use so I don’t have to measure 1/2 cup each time I eat since I have them to use as a guide. Good luck to everyone with their journeys pre-op and post-op!
  10. I paid for my surgery, but knew I was investing in my health and it will make up for it. So far our grocery trip is lasting almost 3 weeks and if I wanted I can make it to the month, since I can't have produce/fruits yet, and 1lb of protein is good for 10 meals, so I'm freezing some portions and my husband is eating from the protein I make. My blood pressure med is back to 5mg so my prescription of 3 months is going to last 6, have not been out to eat since Oct and even then I had started to only eat half of my portion and taking the rest home. I stopped drinking few weeks before surgery so we no longer have 2 boxes of beer in the pantry, no unhealthy snacks, or bread that goes bad. On the other side, my self esteem is coming back awd with that the wanting to shop lol but I have some clothes that do not fit and are new that I will wear till I hit the 100s, will mainly need bottoms, but once goal weight is hit, all bets are off [emoji1787] Sent from my SM-G960U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

how did surgery save you money?

When we go out to eat, my meal tends to last me 3 days because I can't eat as much as I used to. So I get more for my money that way. Also, I don't eat fast food at all, I'm not buying junk food from the store, and I eat way less in general, so the food I DO buy lasts longer.
  12. before surgery i was buying fast food 3 times a day... sometimes more. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. constant snacks, gas station food ect... Now i just go grocery shopping and eat less and dont ever go to fast food places anymore.

how did surgery save you money?

Definitely the not paying the “clothing tax” anymore. Also, no double seats on flights, less in prescription costs, and my personal favorite- better car fuel economy! It’s crazy but instead of filling up every week I fill up every 2 and I’m driving the same amount or more.
  14. My surgery is next week (14th) . This is all good information. I appreciate it all. It will help me manage expectations and deal with the realities of sleeve. Good luck and thanks for being inspirations to those of us who are following you on this journey.
  15. ok we all know that bariatric surgery and the process leading to it is expensive. I couldn’t have afforded mine without some good insurance and financial assistance from my family to offset the costs.. But those of you post op, how has the surgery SAVED you money?? for me, I spend next to nothing on lunches (down from about $8 average a day) because I bring it from my home now and my total grocery bill is going down, saving even more. I was able to buy some new very cheap bras because my boobs have deflated but now getting to be more standard sizes… also am not stopping off for “treats” which probably is another $10-20 a week…. and bought work friendly shirts from Amazon for $20 rather than a specialty plus sized store for $30+++
  16. it takes a while to decipher the cues because it takes a while for them to fully develop while you are healing… i didn’t really start to feel things until i was on soft food and much stronger on regular food… i am 5 weeks po so still early on but ca. tell a big difference watch for hiccups, burps, feeling of pressure in throat, pressure in chest, heart rate or breathing changes, those are all cues people have reported (mine are stomach heavy feeling and hiccups)

    Surgery gass

It often takes a good week for the gas to escape. But burping & farting won’t help because the gas is actually in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive system. The pain occurs because it rises & settles under your lungs causing nerve pressure (the shoulder pain). It escapes by attaching itself to water molecules in your lungs & you breathe it out. So gentle activity like short walks (around your home, garden, street) as you’re able, marching on the spot, carefully lifting your arms up & down ( don’t pull on your tummy) & slow, deep breathing help the gas escape. A heat pad can also help ease the discomfort too. The pain on sipping is swelling from the surgery from where they inserted the breathing tube. Try warm drinks - warm water, green or herbal tea, even add room temp or warm water to your shakes. They are often more soothing than cool or cold liquids. It will get easier every day & will be gone in a couple more days.

Feel I'm like i'm overdoing it..

Were you given portion sizes? Mine were 1/4 - 1/3 of a cup once on purées. Check with your surgeon & team for what they recommend you need. You should aim to stop before you feel full. It takes time for the full message to get through to our brain & often messages don’t get through or signal differently as a lot of nerves were cut during surgery. By the time you feel full you’ve had way too much. It’s why we’re told to eat slowly & to watch portion size. Ask yourself have you had enough not are you full. Do you need the next bite or just want it? It’s okay if you don’t eat all your recommended portion either. Try it again later or save it for tomorrow. My fridge often has unfinished meals & I’m 3.5yrs out. PS - juice is usually a strong no after surgery. The sugar content of the fruit is too high. Consider how many oranges you need to make a glass of juice. Would you eat that many pieces in one sitting. When you’re allowed, eat whole fruit. More of our necessary vitamins & nutrients in whole fruit than in juice alone.

    Gas problems and binder.

It often takes a good week for the gas to escape. But burping & farting won’t help because the gas is actually in your abdominal cavity not in your digestive system. A heat pad can also help ease the discomfort too. Yeah binders are a some do some don’t. If you find a binder supportive & more comfortable, use it.
  20. Hi, I’m Alicia. I just had the gastric sleeve done on 11/21 so I’m a lil over 2 weeks post-op and I know when I’m hungry, but I’m having trouble telling when I’m feeling full. Has this happened to anyone else in the beginning or in general after surgery? I try to really listen to my body when I’m eating, and eat slower, but I’m still unable to tell when I’m full. I normally just stop eating when I feel like its in my throat and it’s going down slowly. I’ve been avoiding throwing up and I don’t want that to happen, so that’s why I try to not finish everything I’m eating at the time. Any advice on how to tell when you’re full or feeling satisfied? Thanks in advance!

    Fighting Depression and Mental Exhaustion

I told my wife before I had surgery that I would at some point or another regret my decision. I told her that her job was to remind me why it did it in the first place. Thankfully I didn't have to rely on her reminders too much, but there were definitely some times when I questioned if it was worth it. The good news is it does get easier and the bad days are a lot more rare now. I mention this because I think it's important to remember that some of the best things in life are also REALLY hard. Losing weight, whether it's with or without surgery is one of those hard, but ultimately satisfying things. Part of that satisfaction comes from knowing you endured the trial and came out a better person on the other side. I"m now coming up on 3 months post op and I can legitimately say that even though I still struggle sometimes, living with WLS is so much easier now than it was at 4 weeks. You can do it, but you just have to grin and bear it for a while. These sayings may sound trite, but reminding myself that "This too shall pass", and "It's a marathon, not a sprint" are what got me through the hard days.
  22. the fam ordered chinese food take out tonight. fully intended to eat all of my Cantonese Chow Mein serving, but at about 3/4 of the way, i remembered that i wanted some of the dessert. Glad i stopped cuz after eating all my Tofu Pudding, i was on the verge of being too full. Almost. I added some maple syrup to the pudding cuz we didn't have any simple syrup on hand. 448 cals for all of it. P.S. the kid just handed me a fun-size Snickers and me and the Snickers are now sitting side by side on the couch watching tv while i digest dinner and decide if im going to eat him or not. stay tuned 🤣
  23. so i had 3 procedures...breast lift, tummy tuck and arm lift. and i gotta say, of the three, the breast lift was the surprise fave. while the TT addressed my vanity needs (to rock a bikini at my age, which doesn't happen often anyway), and the arm lift adressed my self-consciousness of my flappy upper arms when wearing sleeveless tops (which i wear ALL. THE. TIME.), the breast lift addressed a quality of life issue i didn't know i had. i go braless most of the time, and its nice to not have to deal with the post bra-wearing itch or the binding feeling of wearing one. i sleep more comfortably cuz i don't need a bra at night, nor do i have moist "underboobs" anymore. running (or any type of exercise) is much more comfortable cuz i dont have the extra skin or bulk bouncing around when i move vigorously. button front shirts fit nicely over my boobs without the tell-tale gap between buttons, so i no longer keep checking if im busting out or flashing a bit of boob or bra unintentionally.
  24. Hi guys, My name is Caitlyn, I’m going in into my fourth week post op from gastric sleeve surgery. I start advanced purée tomorrow but I’ve been struggling so hard with my depression and having mental breakdowns as well. I’m off from work for 8 weeks as I’m a RN, and being home alone is hard, I’m getting tired of drinking so many fluids, and even though I’m only taking in 1 protein shake a day, I get periods were I don’t want to drink anything at all. I’m somewhat regretting the surgery even though I’m seeing good results, any advice on how to fight this?

Diaphragm Discomfort 7 Weeks Post Op

So, the surgeons PA told me to go to the urgent care. She said she didn't think I necessarily needed to drive all the way to the ER - 45 minutes away, but she wanted me to be seen. She was concerned about pulmonary embolism. Well, urgent care took my vitals - all were fine. I really don't think this is a lung issue - I think it's a tummy issue. Urgent care couldn't do anything else for me. I'm not going to go sit for 6 hours in the ER, just to be told that everything is okay and to go home. I asked the PA to refer me for imaging. My hope is that it's just a pulled muscle, or something. I've been doing a lot of heavy lifting the last week.
