  3. Hi My name is Jenny. I am into my 2nd week after surgery and have lost 5kgs in that time. I am on a liquid diet and i can honestly say i am over it. Can someone give me advise on how to cope until i can start my puree diet and when i do start the puree diet will i experience dificulties with getting use to food in my stomach again? Any feedback would be very helpful. :huggie:
  4. I have about two weeks before my lap band surgery, and I have been informed on everything along the way. All questions have been answered as I needed them and I have been taken care of completely. I have been shown how this procedure works and set as ease a my mind as been relaxes about it also. The Staff is very supportive of my needs and are there to answer all of my questions as well. I feel very confident going into this procedure and am looking forward to it as well. I highly recommend The Weight Loss Institute of Arizona (WLIA) , especially if you are looking for a change. and ready to start a new life. they will show you and answer all your questions give them a call to at least get the facts.

    3rd week - no loss

It happens. If you aren't doing a food journal then start one. I've been stuck for the past 2-3 weeks but since upping my calories a bit the scale has started moving again.

    Ok, So Yeah...

maybe just give solids a try for a week or so ? bananas, sliced apple, nuts, yogurt, 1/2 of a protein bar , or my personal favorite , turkey jerkey ! ( high protein, low in fat and calories.)

    Soup question

I've never been a soup eater, but last week I had bronchitis and it's really all I wanted. I ate a lot of Progresso low sodium light chicken and veggies. I still have a cough and find I'm craving soup. My question is, if I eat it, do I eat it as my meal? I was eating 1/2 cup at a time. Do I count it as a meal, or as liquid? Thanx!
  12. Yes! I have been on soft foods for a week now and I started out the same way. I can take more in now even after just a week. Just keep on an eating schedule adding a little more when you can but don't force it. Your tummy is still swollen, a week will make a big difference. Last night for dinner I had 3 good sized shrimp, a couple bites of tomato/avocado salad and even a couple of bites of pasta. I was pleasantly full. It will get easie
  13. @becca1281 I have a new favourite Protein shake. I mix one danactive yogurt drink, a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder and three quarters of a cup of fresh orange juice together with ice and blend it - it tastes like a creamsicle. So yummy! Not sure why the site is putting links to my protein mentions (I'm not recommending any single brand of protein)

    Finally in a Stall

Ok, so I finally hit the dreaded stall after 18 weeks post op. I have lost a great deal and am feeling really good about where I am but this is where I was afraid I would get stuck. I am now at the lowest weight I reached when killing myself to diet and exercise about 2 years ago. I know that my goal is 110 and it is achievable given that I am 5' tall and I know I have lots of flab on the lower half to lose. Seems like I am experiencing more restriction these days and pretty much don't care to eat so I am hoping that maybe I need to be much more deliberate with my Protein as I have been in the past. I would really like to be at goal by Christmas. I am also going to start working out more (right now only going once a week). I am happy that I am not gaining! But then again, not sure how I could with the little amount that I eat. Very happy with my sleeve, just need to get motivated to work this to my advantage now and actually see my weight get to my goal and stay there!
  16. I had it. I was given the choice of 1 shot weekly for 3 weeks or I could have 1 "mega" shot. Stupid me, I thought 1 shot would be better (I mean who wants to get multiple shots when 1 will do). Well that was a bad decision. It was one of the most painful shots I have ever had. It brought tears to my eyes. The sad thing is I found no relief from the injection. I will say that my mom had the injections in both her knees and it worked for her. In fact, she was able to put off her total knee replacements for several years.

    St. Louis support-very very nervous

I was with Minkin at Des Peres, too I had a very nice, VERY pregnant anesthesiologist though, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same as yours I'm 11 months post op tomorrow and down from 311 day of surgery to 187 today. I took 2 weeks off work, but honestly I could have gone back to my desk job after a week. My best advice for recovery is 1) take all your pain and nausea meds like clockwork the first couple days. I didn't need them after day 3 or 4, but if you need them do NOT get behind schedule. 2). Get vertical and walking as soon as you're able in the hospital. It makes such a difference. And 3) sleep in a recliner the first week. I had to rent one for a week, but you'll have one incision that's kind of sore (I didn't even feel the other 3) and it's much easier to get out of the recliner than a bed. Good luck!!!

    New to forum

I just made an appointment for a consultation and 2 weeks later I was having the procedure done. It was painless. I had the procedure on a Thursday and I went back to work on Monday.
  20. Show of hands....how many folks only eat special foods marketed to Bariatric Patients? For example, Bariatric Choice, Bariatric Advantage, ProtiDiet.... I'm just wondering if it's worth the investment or is it just as good as picking and choosing foods from the local grocers. I do use a protein powder, but I it from WholeFoods and it has 4g of carbs, 32g of protein and 80 cals and it's usually around $22 per container. Lasts about 6-8 weeks.
  21. It's hard to believe it's been over 6 weeks already! It still feels surreal that I went to Mexico, that I flew on a plane and that I had this surgery. I am down 34.6 lbs. I've already gone from a size 22 jeans to a size 20. My starting weight was 242.2 lbs. That was the heaviest I had ever been. I was in denial for a long time that I was really that obese. I didn't have any health problems, so I didn't worry too much. However, my habits were starting to rub off on my 5 year old daughter and the light bulb went off. It was time for a change. I tried Weight Watchers for the umpteenth time. I think all of you know how that goes lol. Well, long story short I was fed up and finally made the decision to have surgery. I did lots and lots of research and decided on Dr. Garcia in Tijuana. Everything went great! My experience was pleasant. I never felt unsafe. I battled a lot of emotions for the first few weeks, but I feel pretty good about everything now. I'm starting to get compliments and that's awesome! To anyone pre-op, it's worth it!! Thanks for reading!

    Fills and frequency Question

I would talk about this with your doctor - ask if you can get more fills if desired. Although my first fill is scheduled for 2-6-10, I've been reading about people who get aggressive with their doctors - demand you get a fill in two weeks if you're not feeling the "restriction" and make sure that the doctor is helping the LapBand help YOU. If he's not, he's not doing his job. Ask your doctor what his fill schedule is and if it's flexible according to the patient's (you) desires/needs. If not? Maybe you need to find another doctor...easy to switch as long as they're still in your insurance's network.

    The Waiting Game ...

Good luck to you It only took my insurance a week to approve. Don't hesitate to call after the week to check the status either.
  24. I think it is a mistake to set goals based on things you have seen others do , or things you hope for. You will find out what your particular body will do with this brand new tummy of yours. Meanwhile, 20 pounds in three weeks is amazing! Around this time in the process you may have your first slowdown as your body processes what has happened and gets into the losing chemistry rhythm . It is important to get the Protein in or your body will burn muscle instead of your fat cells. You may fall into the misconception that you should use this opportunity to just starve yourself without working to get your protein, your Water, etc. I think that would be a mistake. My research and the stories here have told me the things you can do to maximize your results 60-80 grams protein- EVERY day. In the absence of carbs, with lots of protein, the body turns to fat cells to burn- that is what we want! Hence the protein. 64 ounce plus water it is important to flush out the waste from all that burning < or = 30-40 grams carbs per day This makes your body turn to the fat cells Not everyone counts carbs but many people have great results in doing so. at least 30 minutes exercise per day Vitamins supplements So that is my advice to you- follow the rules, you will lose to your maximum. Don't compare yourself to anyone else- you are YOU! Good luck on this wonderful journey!
