I am pre- op but my surgeon told me 3 wks. I have heard of other people who had surgery on a Thursday and were back at work on Tuesday. I have a boring desk job but I have short term disability and I want to take the time to heal properly and get used to my new slim stomach so I will probably take 3-4 weeks off.

I am pre-op, but plan on taking at least two weeks off. When I return to work I will also have limited lifting instuctions. I work for the post office doing data entry, but am also required to lift 70 pounds if needed. I believe I will NOT be lifting 20 pounds for a while much less 70 pounds. Which will all be spelled out in my FMLA paperwork.

I thought I was going to be three weeks post op on Tuesday, but it will be only two weeks. Time is going much slower than I thought! Doing okay, on the pureed diet. Difficult to remember to eat. I don't feel weak or anything. Just don't want to be losing my hair and such faster than I need to. Getting in at least two protein shakes a day. My stomach is certainly active. I used to gulp water like crazy. It is difficult to switch to small sips. Often I feel everything is stuck in my throat, if I take two gulps in a row without thinking. It is a new way to life and I am adjusting. No regrets. I am baking my Christmas cookies and making meals for my husband (empty nester), no problems there. He is my official tester, so I am depending on him a lot. I am okay with all of it. That I am grateful for. I just can't wait until six months from now, everything will be easier.

I am almost where you are. I completed all my requirements last week, but am waiting for my Dr. to receive my psych evaluation so they can submit to insurance for approval. I am hoping to get approval very soon so I can get a surgery date. I am nervous about the pre-op diet too. I will have to do 1 week of clear liquids+ protein shakes. Then after surgery my surgeon has the first meal be clear liquids then switches you to full liquids for 2 weeks. Since there full liquids includes cream of wheat and low fat yogurt I think I will be fine on that.

Incision Question
tigerbelle replied to DallasSleeve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also about 6 weeks post-op...the one larger incision is the only one that is not quite yet fully healed...mine looked about the same as the others except bigger...plus it was the only one that was somewhat tender although I wouldn't say painful...you are just 10 days post-op; I would say just to watch for signs of infection and contact the surgeon if you suspect that -

Congrats!! I know it's scary but you're going to do great! You're taking an important step tomorrow towards a healthier life and you won't regret that! I'm one week post op and I couldn't be happier -
Is anyone struggling with family members. I am struggling with family watching me eat and making comments. Saying things like: "Should you be eating that?", "Aren't you supposed to eat the protein first?", "Wow can you have that?", "That is just a poor choice.", and my personal favorite, "If you eat like that you will gain 10 pounds before your first fill!" I was banded on 6/19. I lost 30# pre-op and 15# post. I have lost 8.5 inches post-op. I am supposed to have my first fill next week. I know that my family loves me, but how do you get them to realize you are the one in control. In a nice way. I wouldn't hurt them for the world and I know that they are just worried and concerned, but I need some breathing room. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this and did it go away as you progressed. I am hoping that when my family sees how well I am doing and that I am succeeding they will back off. Comments....Questions....

I called yesterday and was told by a rep from bcbs that they declined me for 2 reasons. 1. They said I need to have a 5yr history obesity, which i did all but one visit my BMI was 33 in 2002.. I asked them if they go by month so I know if I need to weigh in sometime this year to get my 5 years in. They had no clue. 2. They said I needed more information on being on a low cal diet. I went to my Dr for 12 months (found out it was only supposed to be for 6) to have weigh ins every month and she would memo that I was on WW or the 6 week body makeover. This was not good enough for them. I asked her what other proof I would need, she had no clue about this either. Anyone ever have to go thru this? If so can you give me any info on what I should do. The surgern office was unsure right now on what to do, so I am asking for any help. Thanks

My paperwork should be submitted to my insurance company either tomorrow or Tuesday and I am feeling kind of discouraged because of the patient advocate at my surgeon's office. My insurance (UHC Choice Plus) requires a BMI of 40, and weight history for the last five years, and if you don't have the 40 BMI, you have to have 35 plus two comorbidities. At my initial consult I had a BMI of 40.5 and over the last five years I don't have a 40 BMI but it has definitely been over 35. Fortunately I don't have any health problems but I know if I keep down this road I will definitely develop problems. Anyway, the woman at my surgeon's office keeps telling me that my insurance is probably going to deny it, and is always asking me if I still want to submit my paperwork. I've heard that UHC is one of the easier insurance companies to get approval from, and I think I have a pretty good chance. Besides that, I have already spend quite a bit of money on co-pays for the surgery requirements so I want to follow through. Is she just trying to get me to not get my hopes up or what? She has been so bad that at a couple of points during the last couple of weeks I was ready to just say "Screw it! I will just join Weight Watchers again...." Is what she is doing normal? Thanks for your input!

My dr told me that 98% of leaks happen the first week. After that, ur pretty clear to relax. The first week, I was terrified of having a leak. In fact, at day 5, my back started hurting really badly. My fingers started contracting and my face contorted. I called my nurse. She told me to take my temp. If it wasn't hi, it wasn't a leak. It was like 99. But I kept getting worse so hubby took me to the ER. On the way there, I was convinced I was having a stroke As soon as I was wheeled into the ER and told the dr I was 5 days post op, he asked me if I was taking Reglan. Is aid yes. It was an allergic reaction, called a Dystonic Reaction. As soon as I got a shot of benadryl in my IV, I was normal again. PTL! I guess Reglan is notorious for causing this reaction. It was scary. Anyway, I was so convinced I had a leak. Every little pain (and I had a rough recovery), every little rise in my bp, every little everything I thought I had a leak. They're so rare. U have a better chance of getting in a car accident on ur way to the hospital for ur surgery. Good luck and relax. It'll just make ur recovery harder to worry about every little ache and pain...

I also have PCOS and have not ovulated in 10 years except for meds and by chance I ovulated 3 times in 2012 on my own. I am going to banded the last week of February. I have one child that I conceived with fertility treatments, but I have been unable to have more children. I have also lost 4 babies. I am hoping that the band will help me get healthy that when God does bless me with another baby, I will have a healthier pregnancy this time around. Wishing you the best! -

22 years old in need of advice
laguerr13 replied to Beachbum93's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My only concern is that you haven't stated if you really wanted the surgery and if your heart and mind are not into it, doing things for other people is a noble endeavor that cannot be taken lightly, but you are about to undergo a life and body altering event that can't be taken back whether you fail or succeed, I am trying to be respectful and tactful because of your age, but at 51years old I learned many years ago that even people who may love you sometime unwittingly push things on others due to their own failures and shortcomings, a car or a ring is a nice present for a college student, this gift is more complicated, I in no way want to dissuade you from having your surgery, but if you are not ready mentally and emotionally you will not meet your goals, I had major reasons for doing my surgery and at 388lbs many problems attributed to my weight, but my incentive was to do this to be here longer for my wife and children, my wife is very loving and never pushed me in any way until I said I was ready to have it done, she stood by my side, advocated for me, worked out payments, and took great care of me after the surgery, take a step back and look at who you are and what you want from yourself, ultimately you have to live with and by this decision, not anyone else, it requires a change in diet, lifestyle, and many hours of learning about nutrition, exercise and limitations, it is a sort of rebirth, and just like learning to walk again can be trying at times, whatever your decision I wish you the best, if you ever need an ear or just wanna ask questions you may inbox me anytime, there is a lot to cover about the surgery and what happens afterward, I waited two years after I wanted the surgery to be sure I was informed and was absolutely sure that I would stick with it, BTW I have exceeded expectations and I ahead of schedule, I had surgery on June 10th and will hit 299lbs in a couple of weeks and may hit my goal weight of 198 by February............ But I WANTED THIS!!!!! -
Im glad im not the only one! Seems like people on here are progressing faster than my surgeon recommended for me and its depressing lol and I feel your pain. I started liquids on July 17th, Surgery on July 31st and cant start pureed foods until August 21st.... 5 weeks of boring liquids. We just gotta keep chugging along and I know itll be worth it!

Post-Op Weight
happy1957 replied to im sooo excited's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 8.5 lbs. Not a huge amount, but a good percentage. I then only lost 4.5 over the next 4 weeks, stalled out for about 3 1/2 of that. I feel smaller, clothes fit looser, but unfortunately I did not measure myself. Start there, I think inches is important for your self esteem when the scale doesn't move. Thanks to everyone here on VST, I was able to be emotional about my stall and received much support. Good luck to you. -
Post-Op Weight
Charlotte replied to im sooo excited's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weight once a week and measure once a week on the day after that of my surgery (surgery Monday weight Tuesday of every week). Each person is different as to how much they lose I lost 30 lbs in the first 12 days but I was large to begin with. Our bodies are changing day for day right now and 1 day you could be minus and the next you are plus for a number of reasons. It is much easier to take it by the week then by day. Your body will stall at one time or another but during that time it is readjusting it's self. You will see your clothes fit different at those times. Just remember that through all of this you are getting healthier than you have ever been and all these changes are for the best. If you haven't measured yourself yet I suggest that you do so. The changes in inches are just as important as the weight changes, but they also go up and down as you gain muscle where nothing was before. .I hope this helps you on your journey for a happier, healthier you. Welcome to the loser's club. -
This is happening to me too. I am one week post-op. I am freaking out bc I do not want to deal with this.

I have less than a week before surgery and now I am so nervous. On the verge of crying. I hate reading negative stories and it scares me like crazy. I know I need to do this but the what if's are driving me crazy. What should I do? I meet with my surgeon tomorrow for my pre-op appointment. Wish me luck.

50lbs in 5 months is that bad?
TheGirlInThePinkScarf replied to #fitnotfat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost 50 pounds in a little over 5 months myself. I know that if I compare that to other people, it seems low. But I was told that I'd be considered a slower loser comparatively because I had a lower BMI, so I tried my best to prepare myself for that. I don't get too focused on the numbers because I'm following my team's plan and I know the weight will continue to come off even though I'll still have stalls. The amount of pounds I've lost in this short amount of time is the most that I've ever lost and I'm so proud of myself! I'm also over 50% of the way to my goal and that's what's most important to me! So, as long as you're doing what you're supposed to do (sticking to your plan) then you'll be fine. Stalls are inevitable, but so is the fact that they pass.
