Stupid Question, but oh well, I'll still ask...
ShelterDog64 replied to Coachthex32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Coachthex32 These are great questions, especially because you asked them BEFORE you ate the foods I was so apprehensive about the pureed/soft phase that for a couple of days, I just ate yogurt. -
Last night I mixed up 3 different Protein shakes and 1 yogurt + protein + flavor before I found something that I could handle the flavor of. I haven't had any problems previously, so last night was a bit of a surprise. Is this a sign that my tastes are changing? I usually like to mix chocolate, vanilla, and those types of flavors with almond milk, but those were tossed down the drain. I eventually found a fruit (mixed with water) that I could tolerate. I don't normally drink the almond milk flavors during the day (it's too much effort to take almond milk to work). So I don't think I'm just tired of those flavors, I don't drink them as often as the fruit flavors.

I would toss a little shredded cheese in with my scrambled eggs. Also, finely mashed (with a fork) egg salad or tuna salad. I'm not a refried Beans person, so I didn't try that. (It's a texture thing for me.) The Ricotta Bake is amazing. I think I lived on that for the first week I was on purees. Also, Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt (15 grams protein) - personally, I love the coconut creme and salted caramel flavors. Just had a strawberry one for breakfast today. You'll find your way. You may find that stuff you liked pre-surgery, you don't like now. -
I say stop when you feel pain. That may be your full signal and substitute with a protein drink. Try some flavored drinks like vitamin zero, GC, or any thing with stevia. That helped me. Everyone is different and you need to listen to your body. Maybe stick with funnel foods like eggs, Greek yogurt etc..

Not feeling much restriction
ShelterDog64 replied to ryan_86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First, you can't really stretch a properly done sleeve. The stretchy fundus of your stomach is removed and what's left is very thick, dense tissue. Do you feel restriction if you eat dense Protein, like chicken, beef, pork, hard cheese? Slowing down will help, for sure, as you'll give your body time to get the satiety signal to your brain. Are you getting all of your protein daily, and your Water? I'm just over 6 months out and if I eat the protein I need and drink 64 oz of water, I'm not hungry and definitely can feel restriction if I push even a spoonful past what I know fills me up. The things that DON'T trigger any restriction are carbs, almost all of the simple ones. I could probably eat crackers until I got tired of chewing them, soft cheeses, yogurt, anything sugary. The best thing, IMO, is to clean up your diet (there's no way I could eat a slice of pizza right now, the dough would kill me) and get back to focusing on protein and fluids, and see if that helps with your hunger. Good luck, and you're doing great by your stats! You're almost at goal! -
Gastric sleeve post op please help
savyourdvine1 replied to anniecorda's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Several things.... I purchased a non flavored Protein powder and started making my own drinks from frozen yogurt and almond milk. Also, everything I eat has protein in it..... from meats to cheese to Beans, snow crab.... once the protein starts entering your system the muscle will rebuild. I can't walk at the moment because I had foot surgery, that would also help build my leg muscles. Try stretching with resistance bands. That should help your arms. Always check with you Doc first. @coachthex32. I didn't eat eggs on my puréed phase. I ate a lot of ricotta bake (which is actually delicious the first couple days) and fat free reformed Beans with melted cheese and a little bit on Taco Bell sauce. Yogurt and cottage cheese is good too! But didn't eat too much of the cottage cheese (small cured) cus I was so nervous to eat or drink anything. Good luck! Pinterest has some good recipes for puréed food as well! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
The need to eat until stuffed
Healthy_life2 replied to nnagle323's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@nnagle323 you haven't lost more than 2lbs in 3 months. You might want to call your dietician's office to reevaluate your diet and exercise. Check your dietician's instructions that you were sent home with. Make sure you are eating and getting the correct nutrition in. Check your protein goals 60 to 100grams. check how many carbohydrates you are allowed on your plan. Carbs can trigger hunger and cravings. Carbohydrates will slow and can stop your weight loss. Extra carbohydrates will cause weight gain. In food stage, there is no need to get Protein by drinking shakes. Fish, chicken, turkey cheese yogurt eggs..etc...Only supplement with a shake if you're not hitting your protein goal for the day. Are you tracking your food and hitting your protein goals? Here is a link to my fitness pal to help you track. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/mobile/android 4 oz Ruftys low car meat loaf = 243 calories string cheese = 80 calories Steal cut oatmeal = 152 calories 1/2 subway multigrain flat bread = 110 calories Fruit roll up = 80 calories PROTEIN = 36G (you didn't hit your protein goal of 60g to 100g) Protein will help you to feel full. CARBOHYDRATES = 73Grams. (Your getting more carbs than protein.) Calories = 665. hitting 800 calories is pretty normal in the first few months. -

I start my pureed phase tomorrow for the next two weeks. 1. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg. Do I need to put the cooked scrambled egg in the blender? 2. I am also seeing a lot of people say they have re-fried Beans and cheese. Do I put that in the blender too? I'm on a roll with dumb questions that have probably been answered somewhere on this forum.... 3. I am assuming I will still need two Protein shakes to make sure I get all my protein in? 4. Do I put the greek yogurt in the blender? (May be one of the stupidest questions I have ever asked) Trying to make a daily menu before I go pick up stuff at the store. Can anyone share what a typical day in the puree phase looked like? Thanks for the help after you stop laughing. -
Today is two weeks post op and I feel sick half of the day everyday. Most of the time it's in the morning but, today I did something different. I took my meds at night instead of the morning and I had a yogurt instead of a Protein shake for breakfast and I felt like a million bucks! But now I feel like sick. I'm not throwing up or anything but my head is dizzy and I have a headache. What am I doing wrong? I want to feel great all day or is it just to soon for that? Hw 288 Sw 261 Cw 247

What do I do when I reach my goal?
Bufflehead replied to gustavio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I added in more fat to my diet, not more carbs or sugary foods. So, have a couple of slices of avocado with dinner, have almond butter instead of PB2 with my yogurt, eat full fat yogurt instead of nonfat, add some shredded cheese to my usual lunch salad of chopped chicken breast and green veggies -- things that I could do without eating significantly bigger meals or eating more carbs or sugar. To the extent that I do eat some higher carb foods, I focus on whole grains and things that I am not going to start to "graze" on. So, no to crackers or cookies or anything like that. Instead, I occasionally have hot oat bran cereal (100% oat bran, no sugar or sweeteners of any kind) for breakfast. I like it, and it is good for me, but it isn't like I'm going to make a giant pot of oat bran mush and eat it all day long. -
Is it full liquids or clear liquids? For my full liquids phase I did protein shakes, strained cream soups, and drinkable yogurt. That was about it. The soups were nice.... went and bought pretty much every kind my grocery store sold and tried them all over the course of that phase. My favorites were Campbell's Cream of Shrimp made with 2% milk and Progresso's Chicken Cheese Enchilada.

? For those in the losers bench!
JamieLogical replied to jaynamy3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never blended a single thing in my puree stage, but I did blend my Protein shakes everyday. For my puree stage, I just ate the whole foods I was allowed in that stage (cottage cheese, yogurt, strained cream Soups, scrambled eggs, refried Beans, etc.). I did make a couple of the recipes from this site: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html -
Pureed food stage
HuneComz replied to HeidiSue2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorites on the pureed phase: One scrambled egg and one turkey sausage link put in the food processor with a splash of Fairlife, though I could never finish it all. Ricotta bake (I made them in muffin tins) - I could eat 1/2 of a ricotta bake muffin at a time. Refried Beans, low-fat shredded cheese and a small tsp of plain Greek yogurt I pureed tuna salad and the consistency wasn't too different from regular tuna salad in my opinion. -
Bypass w/ minor issues
savyourdvine1 replied to kassandrafernandez@ymail.com's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If everything looks good at the hospital.... I would still check with your surgeon. But remember your body is still healing..... It's pulling energy from you to do that. You need to rest and keep yourself hydrated with Water and Protein shakes. Are you taking Vitamins? When my stomach refuse to take anymore Protein Shakes (burnout) my liquid vitamins kept me alive without complications. I'm eating mushy foods now so I put nonflavored Protein powder in my yogurt, hummus and some liquid drinks. Plus everything I eat has protein, fish, Beans, eggs, cheese and so forth. Stay safe. Suggestions on puréed foods
heidikat72 replied to time4change2017's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second Jamie's post. that blog and in particular her post on puree stage were great inspiration for me then. I eased into purees by starting with greek yogurt and once that seemed to do ok, i tried a little refried Beans, then went to the ricotta bake. and from there did purees of tuna or chicken or salmon or eggs with greek yogurt - pureed tuna salad was more appealing to me than just throwing a chicken breast and broth in a blender! Considering the puree phase is fairly short (for me it was 2 weeks), that was enough variety - especially with the flavored tuna and salmon pouches changing things up daily. Good luck, take it slow and it will end soon and you can move on to the next phase! -
Today I am 1wk post-op from my sleeve surgery! Most of the chest pressure from when I drink is gone, thankfully! My bowels are working and I'm not nauseous! Praise the Lord for all these things! My stomach muscles are on the mend but still a bit sore when bending over or getting up. I have lots of bruising on my tummy. Other than that I'm able to do my protien drinks, soups, sf Jello, sf popsicles, greek yogurt & cream of wheat. My first week I lost 6.5lbs! Yaya! Sent from my SM-G930V using the BariatricPal App

I think part of my issue is I can no longer tolerate Protein power or protein shakes at all. Makes me gag even at the smell, and yes I've tried many different brands including GENEPRO. I have a lot of sensory issues and this is suffering for it. I can't tolerate yogurt either due to my sensory problems. So I need to find a way to get in my calories and protein through food alone. Oh, did I mention I have a lot of food allergies too (including, but not limited to, legumes (for ex - peanuts, Beans, peas, etc), almonds, and all fish (yes all, not just seafood). *sigh* Yeah, it's difficult right now. So keep the menus coming, I need ideas. Have to get creative.

Pureed food stage

I use unjury unflavored Protein Powder. I buy it from their website. Besides mixing it in things like yogurt, Soups, refried Beans, etc, you can mix it in drinks like Crystal Light, Powerade Zero and decaf iced tea. -
Confused by what my stomach is telling me
Bufflehead replied to krystalrose219's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You don't want to be looking for "full." That uncomfortable stuck feeling you are getting isn't full, it's "you ate too much." Instead, measure out a very small meal and eat slowly. When you feel satisfied (NOT physically full) stop eating. If you accidentally get that uncomfortable signal that you ate too much, figure out how much you ate that caused the problem and make sure you measure out a smaller meal than that next time. For example, if you measure out 4 ounces of yogurt but before you finish it you get the "you ate too much" signal, look at how much you have left. Maybe a quarter of what you started with? so 3 ounces was too much. Next time, measure out 2 ounces instead of 4 and eat that instead. Good luck! -
My plan on soft foods was 3 meals per day of a maximum 3 ounces of food -- but in reality the max I could eat for most of it was 2 ounces. I was to supplement with protein shakes and that was the only way I got in enough protein. I basically focused on high protein foods for my meals: 2 meals of primarily meat (tuna salad, turkey burger, mashed sardines, braised beef, etc) and 1 meal of high protein vegetarian food such as cottage cheese, eggs, Greek yogurt or refried beans. Minimum of 2 protein shakes per day.

Confused by what my stomach is telling me
krystalrose219 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello all I'm 1 week post op still on the Full liquid diet about to transition to very soft foods like yogurt and refried Beans. I'm just kind of confused about what exactly the "full" signal is. If I take a sip that's too big or too many sips one after another, I get a distinct painful almost "stuck" feeling that lasts a couple seconds and then it's gone and I'm okay to keep taking sips as long as they're very small. Is this "stuck" feeling supposed to be the signal that I'm full? I had thought the surgery was meant to make you feel more full and satisfied sooner but this feeling I'm getting doesn't feel like what I remember "full" to feel like. Anybody have any insight? I had a hard time on puree/soft to get enough food and Protein in. I started adding unflavored Protein powder to anything that it would mix into. I froze Syntrax Protein drinks into ice-pop tubes to boost fluids and protein intake. I kept up with the Protein shakes to give myself a good protein base to work from, and added the puree/soft foods on top of that. I ate stuff like refried Beans with cheese, lots of greek yogurt, and made up protein powder with 1/2 the liquid to make pudding. I also found later that Fairlife milk has quite a bit more protein than regular milk, so I've switched to that to boost my intake. It's hard to get all the protein in to start with, and the calories stayed very low for me until I was on a full diet. My doc said my #1 priority is fluids, and my #2 priority is protein, and for the first 2-3 months post-op that's all she wanted me worried about.
