  1. Everyone’s surgon is different. If yours is large then maybe he does need to do them at different times. My HH surgery was years ago & the recovery was pretty easy. When I had my GB my esophagus was it an L-shaped. I’m retired, the surgery itself was pretty easy. It’s getting your body used to your new stomach and your new way of eating. You are going to be weak for about a week to 10 days afterwards because your body is just gone through major change.
  2. I am already feeling like I am failing. Today was day one on my high protein/low carb diet. Did fine this am had my shake then I couldn't even stick to that...had some smoked ribs for my lunch that I smoked from yesterday..no bbq sauce on it---thinking that was better then anything else..since it is after all protein....right? But then I had 6 cheese-its and 3 puff cheetos from my kids plate as well. How am I ever gonna do this for 10 days when I can't even do it for one day......What have I gotten into? How in the world did anyone do this.....I want this more then anything so why in the world can I not get a grip on this....how in the world did I get to this point????

    I Feel Bi-Polar

Today started out Oh Tuesdays Last night even after trying on jeans Bleck! I can’t even start a post! When I was in college in 2004, I took a creative writing class and the instructor would give us 10 minutes to close your eyes and type (for those who can do that, which is probably 80% of the population in this day and age) but she would tell you not to delete anything, just type. After the 10 minutes, go back and copy and paste the parts of whatever you just wrote into a story. I guess I never fell out of that habit, for I LOVE to write. I hope to have a few books published before I die. Last night, before I went to attempt jean shopping, I went to Lane Bryant to try on a swim suit that I ordered off line just to make sure that it was going to fit and actually make me look decent enough to wear it in public. I tried it on and fell in love with it and now I’m so excited to get it in the mail. I went home and told Ty that I was so happy, that I found a suit that looks good on me and that we would have so much fun in San Diego. I felt good about myself, which is something I haven’t felt in a while. Well, then it came to be bed time, I started a load of laundry because right now I only have 1 pair of jeans that I wear to work that fit me. I forgot to get up early and put them in the dryer with enough time for them to be dry for work…. Well now I don’t have any pants! So I tear apart my room looking for the only other pair that actually fit me and they have been eaten by a monster or something. Just my luck. I find a pair that I know are too small, but are the only ones that I’m going to be able to button. THEY ARE TIGHT. I have to use a hair tie to make an expansion so that I can make it through the day… I debate calling in, then I remember that I need to save leave to go to San Diego to visit Ty… I walk out of the bathroom and continue on with gathering my things for work, and Ty says, “See you found them!” I had to shut him down quickly and inform him that these jeans are too small. He asks for a hug and I tell him I don’t want to give him a hug because I feel terrible. So he hugs me and tells me that I look fine, and I had to tell him about the hair tie. THEN HE LAUGHED!! Boys are dumb. I almost burst into tears. I had to tell him it isn’t funny, and then the apologized, which I believe, but still. So now I’m at work… I started the morning off feeling sorry for myself. Then it was iPod time…Music is my everything. I grew up with music in my house all the time. After listening to a few songs, I was in a bit of a better mood and I realized I put myself in this mess; I’m on the right path to taking myself out. This is my time.
  4. Okay guys so I need to share this. I had been in a stall for about a month. I stayed true to my diet. Recorded everything I consumed every single day. Almost always got in my 70-80 grams of protein and 64 oz. of fluids. Never eating more than 2 oz at a time.Treadmill 3 times a week. I go to Hawaii for 10 days, and record nothing, still stay true to my diet as much as possible, but don't know if I got in the protein most days, and definitely not all the fluids. I did still take one shake a day, but I ate less while on vacation. The only thing I decreased substantially was my iced tea intake. I have 32 oz. at home everyday. I only drank tea two times in ten days. All this to say that when I came home, I was 10 lbs. lighter! SO now I'm trying to figure out if it was coincidence, not being on such a strict regimen, decreasing the iced tea, eating food instead of two shakes a day??? I need to figure it out so I can keep it going. I'm happy but also a bit confused because it seems like when I was doing everything right, the scale didn't move, and when I have no way of measuring or eating in the right intervals, I lose 10 pounds? Any thoughts on why the sudden loss?
  5. Sometimes a shake up to your diet routine gets the scale moving again. Does your ice tea have sugar in it? Congratulations on the 10 pounds, no worries more to come!
  6. Oh curse you Sun Chips for being so delicious and going down so smoothly. I was able to eat about 10 chips with no problem. The problem is, that's going to be a BIG problem because I'm addicted to those things. I guess it's a little better than potato chips, but I still shouldn't be eating them. Boy were they good, though.
  7. I am going crazy. I had my surgery 10/22. I feel no different. I have no trouble drinking, getting my protein in anything. Is there something wrong with me? I have been having my soups clear liquids. Am I doing something wrong? Can I have pudding at this stage? I am so confused and overwhelmed.

    Who Else Is Not Losing?

Was sleeve 10/16 and think I'm coming out of my SECOND stall already. Was stuck at 217 for almost two weeks about 5 weeks post op...got down to 210 and have hung around that for a week and am now finally dropped down to 209. From what I've read, when your body hits 10-15% losses, it plateaus...trying to hang onto your weight....because it thinks you're going to starve. It's frustrating but completely normal. As Laura said, keep an eye on your Water intake, change up your exercise and even change up your food. For me, it's hard to have a regular BM without a laxative still...and I ONLY weigh myself after a BM now. Sometimes it's 2-3 days. But something else I've tried is to get my Protein in EARLY in the day and then focus of veggies (aka fiber!) for my final meal or snack of the day. That seems to help my body get out of the plateau too.
  9. Brighteyes, best of luck Tuesday, January 11, when you get your band! Now get that hip replaced and you'll be good to go! Really, take care, have a smooth surgery and easy recovery! Please come back here and let us know how you're doing!
  10. Also from TX - just had my Lap-band done on 9/11 (obviously not superstitious) and doing great. Preparation and information will help more than anything to get ready. Make sure you have your mind completely at peace about the procedure. Make sure you're ready to change everything about how and when you eat. Ask lots of questions and be ready to go on 10/1. We're excited for you and know you'll do great.
  11. I'm 10 months out and I've noticed an increase in what I believe is gas pain for the last month. I have severe cramping and abdominal pain. Get boated to the point that pushing on my stomach hurts. This happens after I eat and is miserable. I can't seem to find a food that seems to be the cause. Anyone else have this issue?? It is such a miserable pain- just like I felt post op. gas relief chews don't cut it

  13. Good to hear from everyone..and knowing there are people out there in the same boat as me. My husband doesn't quite get why I need this...still thinks if I work out everyday I can lose the weight...well it's been 10 years...I'm not wasting any more time. My date was 10 weeks from my consult. so don't get your heart too set on the 4-6 weeek idea. Mind you I had to bump my date back a week so I wouldn't have to bring the Optifast on vacation with me. Don't need to explain that to everyone. I'm going out to buy more white bread...I know it's bad but I have to say goodbye to it soon and will mourn the loss. I'm so inspired by everyones tickers! way to go you guys! :clap2: I can't wait to change mine to weight...instead of my surgery date countdown.

    Confused. Can someone help me??

I had an analysis done at the Medifast clinic here in Sacramento. They tell you how much muscle mass, Water, etc you have. I am doing the Medifast diet to lose my required 10% for my insurer. On their printout they said my goal was 187 based on my muscle mass and I do agree that that seems pretty high! I have pretty much decided that I am going to go ahead and get the lapband anyway since my biggest obstacle has always been maintenance and not so much the actual losing anyway. I need to keep a long term control on my diabetes since it's causing me some serious problems! Thanks for your reply! -Heidi-

    Hi! I'm Karen from Oregon

Hi Karen, I had my surgery 10/12 & was home the next afternoon. Dr Halpin was my surgeon at Legacy Weight Mgmt Institute, Ste 520 right next door to Dr Patterson. I am feeling good - lucky not to have nausea, vomiting, or much pain. Looking forward to weeks 3 & 4 to start adding food back. Let me know how things are going for you. Jan
  16. I AM SLEEVED!! So I was here at 6:00 am this morning. Went in for surgery at 7:30 and woke up SLEEVED about 10:30. My surgeon came in just a bit ago and said my stomach wall wasn't too thick from the band. He also said I will be on Clear liquids about 2 weeks and not to push it because the area of the stomach at the top where the band was will end a little more time. I'm not In too much pain, no nausea. I guess that $130 pill worked. And I AM SLEEVED! Sent from my SM-T537V using the BariatricPal App

    Blue Care Network Mi

I think most MI based insurance programs have a 6 month process. I had to meet with a doc once a month, the nut, exercise, and behaviorist one time. The insurance companies changed their policies on June 1st this year...call and check with them (ask you docs office for the surgery codes before you call) Sleeved 10\23\12 by Dr. James Foote, Grand Health Partners

    Inability to throw up?

Considering how much I ended up throwing up toward the end of having my lap band, this sounds great! I don't want to throw up, I HATE throwing up. If I were to mess up, lesson learned for next time. Let that pain that you're going through for 10+ minutes be a reminder for next time.

    gallbladder surgery

I had mine out close to 10 years ago, so of course my experience may not be quite the same as it would be now after RNY. However - at the time I had a desk job that I could do 99% of from anywhere I had my computer, I actually resumed work the same day once I was back in my room recovering. I worked from home the next day and then returned to the office the following.

How many cc"s till you felt full?

I'm at 2.5 in a 10 and I'm in a good spot. When I eat what I am supposed to I get full after a cup of protein and vegetables. I can still eat a bag of Doritos but that doesn't count to need a fill because they are sliding right through, no matter how tight you are. Can't look back at how much you only lost last year. Be happy you lost something and gained nothing. Move on forward and start fresh with the Band life and you got this =)
  23. I'm may 21st but I'm looking forward to 1) losing 11 lbs. it doesn't sound like much but for the past five years I've lost no more then 10 lbs at each time I've tried to lose weight. This will be verification that this was the right move for me 2) buying a new swim suit in a smaller size. 3) being able to move back from the steering wheel. (I am short so I need to sit close to reach the petals)

    Gynecology revisited

I agree! The prep is what I hate! The colonoscopy itself is a piece of cake. My GI guy usually has his own done with no anesthetic, but he gives the rest of us something via IV that amounts to about 10 margaritas. I am out before they even have a chance to dim the lights. (I'm a cheap drunk....I mean patient.)

    Goodbye, Food

:crying:Wednesday, June 10, 2009 Goodbye, food Last night I said goodbye to food--forever. Well, not quite. But I did have to start on a low-carb, liquid diet in preparation for lap band surgery, which, the Lord willing, will happen next Thursday. Its been a long journey. I began the official process a year ago, when I'd had enough with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, borderline diabetes and constant pain from osteo-arthritis. I jumped through a lot of insurance hoops and tests to get to this point. I prayed for healing from my food cravings and I still do. Everyday is a battle with the desire to eat and eat and eat. Over time, the food has won. And I battle with what I think other people will think. How they, especially Christians, will judge me. I've only told a few people about the surgery. Now I'm letting the world know. I believe its important for my recovery that I not hide this in a corner. Whether anyone reads this or not isn't important. My food cravings won't go away just because I can't eat much. Journaling has always helped me cope during tough times. I'm hoping it will help now, and that maybe it will help others. A verse came to me in church last Sunday that confirmed my decision. Jesus said it in Matthew 5:29. "If your eye offends you, pluck it out." Its better to go without the eye or the hand that causes you to sin, than to keep it and endure hell (my interpretation). Hence the name of my blog: If Your Stomach Offends You, Tie It Off. It's better to go through life without much of a stomach than to live in the despair and physical destruction caused by food addiction.
