"No Fill For You!" Because I was a Stupid DooDoo POOPIE HEAD!!!
BgB9 replied to Oblong's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm impressed that you were able to stick to mushies for 5 weeks. After 2 of liquids and 2 of softs I was going out of my mind craving something with texture. Expect to put a little back on with solids. It's okay. Until your first fill, you aren't exactly on the program. This is about healing and learning how to eat with the band. Your stomach hasn't had to work on processing things for a while, so you need this time. I freaked when I gained back some weight during this time. My doctor won't do fills for 2 months aftr sugery, making his patients go full month on solids. What it teaches you is that it isn't the band that makes you lose weight, it is what you put in your mouth. Also, if you don't learn to eat the correct way (how, not what), you can cause the band to slip. So don't panic if you put on a few. Work on small bites and chewing. Then when you get your fill you will have success. -
"No Fill For You!" Because I was a Stupid DooDoo POOPIE HEAD!!!

You are not alone... I did the same thing as you did!!!! I was banded on Dec 14 and when I went in to get my first fill the dr asked me what I was eating. I was explaining how I don't feel any restriction and I really am not getting full, blah blah. I was eating scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, refried Beans (cause I liked them with cheese and hot sauce), Protein shakes for snack, so I described the mushy phase way into my 6th week post op. The way he described it made sense that all the mushy food was going through the band to the big stomach. I just was nervous about eating regular food and I was loosing so I just went with it. Anyways, now I have had 2 fills and definately am feeling restriction. Good luck to you and it's nice to know I wasn't the only one. Michele 193/169/125 (no preop diet) -
Glad you are losing again. Unfortunately you will have these stalls and then loses. Just your body catching up with itself and getting used to the loses. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will continue to lose. Probably not as quickly as you did in the beginning, But don't doubt yourself or get discouraged. Remember how great you feel today when this happens again and rest assured you are going to succeed.

They told me try to follow the rule of 60:60. 60g of protein 60oz of fluids. They told me it could take a couple weeks to get to that but that is the goal. I am on full liquids for 1-2 weeks depending on how i tolerate them. I also don't start my vitamins and actigall until my post op check on Tuesday. I am taking my pepcid cause it's a small pill and b12 because it is sublingual.

My goal is to lose 35 more pounds. -
Exercise IS the key!!! :)

I'm about 3 weeks out now, and I hit a bit of a plateau during week 2. I began to exercise fairly vigorously at the end of week 2, and it's coming off again. This as I've upped my calories and moved on to real food (albeit soft foods). I think it's so individual, so I can't say this is a recipe for success for everyone. But exercise is its own reward - it releases endorphins, it improves your mood, it really is something that I need and want to get in the habit of doing - not just to lose weight, but for the rest of my life. Right now I'm just doing the elliptical machine, and pushing myself a little bit harder each time. I've upped my calories because I need the energy to exercise (and because I'm burning a lot of calories exercising). It is very weird though, weight loss - there are times it just doesn't happen and then there are days where you feel like you've lost 4 lbs overnight. And it varies from person to person. I think the best advice I could give (to myself and others) is to trust the process, and invest in the process (eating well, exercising), then let the outcome take care of itself. In other words, don't check the scale too often! And don't let the short-term results dictate your mood or distract you from your long-term goals! :tongue2: -

First of all kpdgal..I LOVE bunnies too! LOL I have seven of them! Juliansmom, I know that weight loss may not be important during the first 6 weeks or so, but for me, psychologically, it's very important. There's nothing I can do about that. I got very depressed when I wasn't losing weight..I was working really hard to lose and nothing was happening. This was like mental torture. The doctors may tell you that weight loss isn't important during the first few weeks, but they are thrilled when you do lose the weight. I wish it didn't get me down, but it really did. I ended up getting rid of my scale..which did help me feel better. I get weighed at work every week. -
Hi ladies. My surgery is t till October 21st and wanted to ask you guys something. The 2 weeks of clear liquid after surgery, does the liquid have to be room temp? If its cold does is it painful on your stomach? Thank you for the heads up. Nervous and looking for answers:).

No restriction after fill, could she have missed?
rharriet62 replied to sarabluebell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I almost never feel a fill until 5-7 days after it happens. Sounds weird, but it takes mine a while to kick in! Sounds like you should go back to your reg doc. Why the long wait for a fill? That sounds really crazy! My doc always gets you in within the week you call! Anyone else around you who does fills? -
My doctor put in three ccs during surgery and I haven't needed any more. I have restriction. It keeps me from overeating, yet I can eat most things, really. I don't think the band is meant for forced starvation. Good luck.

Restricted without fill...anyone else?
michelle88 replied to jetti's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jetti- Hi there--I am little over two months out-9 weeks. My dr will not fill me yet since I have averaged 2 lbs per week since surgery. I cancelled my two month appt scheduled for 5/29 since I have lost 8 lbs this month. Congratulations on your weight loss!!: What rate have you lost your weight? My thinking- wait as long as we can before a fill so when we reach a plateau hopefully a fill will get us over the plateau. What do you think?? Michelle -
Thanks :scared2: I have actually been thinking hiatal hernia myself. I did go see a gastro a few days ago and I have an endoscopy scheduled for Tuesday. I'm getting real anxious. I've been feeling so much pain radiating from this spot and even though I had a slight unfill a bit over a week ago, I'm still sliming mushies EVERYDAY!!! Most of the time I can't even keep my protein shake down..it just feels stuck in my chest. Whatev tho...I'm getting really discouraged with this band :cursing:

Keep calm & carry on!!!....because this too shall pass!!! I'm at 5 weeks too (posted about my stall last week) and hit that stall for two weeks.....I finally broke through today!!

Hi all, This is my first post. My surgery is 4/8 and I am starting to have this overwhelming feeling (and sometimes dreams) that my surgery won't work and I will have done all this preop for nothing. I guess I can't grasp that I will feel full after 1/4 cup of food. It's so hard to imagine. Did anyone else feel like this? I'm worried to the point of actually canceling to avoid the surgery. I know it's probably a silly fear but it's a fear nonetheless. I also started the two week preop diet about 4 weeks ago on my own and am losing consistently. I've lost about 20 pounds on my own since mid-January. I don't know if that's contributing to this feeling? I'm so nervous! Help!

I created a survey of questions related to lap band surgery. I would like for those of you who have had lap band surgery and are at least 3 to 6 months post surgery to take this survey. The survey is completely anonomous. It is limited to 100 entries, so I will share the results after 100 people have taken the survey or a week from now, whichever is sooner. This is just a survey to help me better understand how people feel about their decision to be banded. There are only 9 questions and they are: 1. How tall are you? 2. What was your weight pre-banding? 3. What is your current weight? 4. Select which type of diet you follow: 5. Exercise 6. How much total weight did you lose from the day of banding until (sorry these may not appear in order): 7. If you could do it all over again, would you get banded? 8. Please select which best suits you: 9. Do you wish you had selected a different weight loss surgery? Please answer these questions via the survey. Please only take the survey only once. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=678442574739 P.S. I'm a newbie to this survey thing so I'm praying this works :nervous (but actually its a pretty cool website to create your own surveys (surveymonkey.com)

If you aren't required to do anything physical, you will probably be fine. Many people return to work within a few days. I wouldn't have been ready for at least a week. If you normally recover easily, then you should be good to go, again, as long as you don't do anything physically that you arent' supposed to do.

My doctor is pretty strict about eating and it is on the list to have fish. Just flake it up to the consistency of tuna fish. I am only 4 weeks out and I had it a few times. Remember to make it wet. I take yogurt and mix spices in it with a little water. I put it in a squirt bottle and leave it in the fridge overnight. You can put it on the fish for wetness and it gives it a nice taste along with the extra protein.

HI John, You must be very excited about your surgery date on Feb 21st. I actually thought your surgery date would have been sooner than that. Are they booking out about 5 weeks? What is the reason for the semi-liquid diet? Sherri

First day on soft solids Not Good
James Marusek replied to nettabs1's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Just take your time with the food transitions. There is no need to rush. The three most important elements after weight loss surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. -
Its so true. I'm a little obsessed about this. Its just my nature to turn weight loss scientific rather than just do it, and I'm a bit panicky over this initial post banding loss. I really believe that initial huge quick losses are not something to aim for because you're only losing lean body tissue (and water). I've worked quite hard to get real food in in liquid form and my first week's loss has been 2.3 kg which is still pretty fast but nowhere near as incredibly fast as lots of people lose at first. I've tried hard not to let the surgery set me back, I'm living my ordinary active lifestyle and getting a walk in each day. But I"m frustrated I cant do vigorous stuff and weight training for a good few weeks yet - I feel like I'm withering with each day, lol. A few weeks is not going to hurt but I'm going to really work on my body during this journey. I want to end looking really fit, not just thinner! And the more muscle you have, the more you can eat (meaning maybe one or two less fills) and therefore the more nourishment you get in and the easier it is to maintain your weight. But it is inevitable in a large weight loss that you will lose muscle tissue because your body needs more to support your weight when you're obese. Your excess weight is not just fat, its bone and muscle too - and in fact you'll often find when you go back down the scale, you're leaner at a certain weight than you were on the way up because your bones are denser. I like your take on things JQ, I think you've had such incredible success because you focus so hard on the exercise side of things too. Its not all about just eating less is it?

I called Anthem this morning and got the news!! Surgeon's office submitted on 10/23 and told me to give it up to 2 weeks. I'm excited, yet nervous. Pre-op appointment on 11/21.
