I would call your Dr. and see what he/she says. All of them say something different. I had to wait for 2 weeks, but I had an open surgery, and I have my own pooil.
  3. Hi, I'm new also, just had my 1st appointment 2 weeks ago and scheduled to meet the nutritionist and behaviorist on Jan. 23. I also stopped drinking pop 1 week today, really hard. Let's hang in there! Keep us posted.

First Steps in the pre-surgery process

Hello Ladies! First of all, Congrats on taking the first steps! I am not in the beginning of the 6 month journey but my surgery was just the week of Thanksgiving so I remember all too well how my journey started. I had a horrible addiction to caffeine as I work midnights in an extremely high stress profession, and I work a lot of hours a week on top of having a family to care for. I thought i would NEVER kick the habit. I started by cutting back on the number of coffees I allowed myself in a day. I made a small "surgery bucket list" of things that I wanted my husband and I to do together before the time came to put all of my focus into resting, healing, and working out. We went hiking at a favorite location, we went on a few dates that we had been talking about doing and hadn't done, we went to a couple restaurants that I knew I would always experience in a different way after surgery, and I ate Wedge salad about six times because its my favorite taste ever and I knew it would be a LONG time before I was able to have a taste of it again. With that said, my list only contained four of my absolute favorite restaurants and we went to about one a month for the first four months of the six, and I made healthy choices at ALL of those meals to test myself. I found that I was NOT any less satisfied with making healthy choices than I had been with prior meals at those locations. I learned that what I enjoy most is the environments, the company, the conversation, the time with my family, and good quality food, not quantity or fat content. So as it turned out, I was learning new things about myself and my eating habits while I was completing my bucket list. Start slowly by picking one or two things a month to work on within yourself, and start rewarding yourself with things other than food. Enjoy it, the time will FLY by!!! Best of Luck!

    Any regrets about getting banded?

Your "gas" questions was a legitimate one as lots of people talk about gas. That is because during the surgery (this is what I was told by my surgery coordinator so I assume it's standard) some type of gas (no idea what kind) is put into your torso to float the organs to make getting to the stomach and placing the band easier. That's why there are gas pains after the surgery. It kind of works its way out through the body (not just the butt) :phanvan Mine only lasted a week and were not that bad. GasX worked great. As to the constipation, if you eat enough fiber and don't have an problems prior to surgery, you should be fine. Since most doctors recommend eating protein first and that usually fills you up, it might be hard to get enoughh fiber. Flax seed meal works great. High in fiber and it can be added to protein shakes. I am thrilled with my band. I have only had one fill and have limited restriction in my 10cc band but have still managed to lose 16 lbs during November and December. And I was not as good as I should have been during the holidays. I was self pay and would do it again. Good luck!

    Magnesium citrate

Took me over and hour to finish it. I had the lemon flavor. It was an assault on my taste buds after clean eating for all of those weeks. Drink plenty of water afterwards. It is all worth it!

Happy... but I miss rice. I shouldn't, right?

I was able to eat barley before I could tolerate potatoes, rice, or noodles. I agree with others- everyone's different and it's important to try nutritious foods periodically and see if you can have them now. At almost three years out, I can tolerate almost anything except most dairy and tortillas. I can eat 1/2 small corn, but even a few bites of a four one doesn't sit well. Lynds
  8. Has anyone ever had that? I have never had these..but i have noticed it this week..today more? Anyone with that issue? It is very uncomfortable
  9. I'm only two weeks out, and I'm already there! Pain in my left shoulder after only a tiny bit of food. I guess that pain is going to become my friend. Or...at least I'll try & see it that way

    4 Weeks Out And Stalled

I'm 4 weeks out and stalled last week at 27lbs since surgery. So I stepped up Cardio I walk about 3 miles at least 5 days out the week. I'm only able to get about 500 calories a day and about 30 grams of protein and barely any carbs. I weighed in yesterday and I'm now down 33 lbs. I was nervous too when I was stuck at 27lbs, but a lot of ppl said they experience the same around 3rd and 4th week. Keep up your cardio and once the dr releases us to exercise we'll be doing more to drop the lbs. Best wishes!
  11. I had Gastric sleeve done October 24, 2016. I am glad to say I have lost 47 lbs since my preop diet started on October 10th. Just curious what results others have had at this point and if what I have lost is about average or above average;))) TIA Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

    HEY BANDERS where are you?

I'm here. I had my 6th fill two weeks ago. I have 7.75cc in a 10cc band. I feel the restriction now. It is not what I expected so I am trying to figure out where to go from here. I see my NUT tomorrow to get more food guidance. I work out 2x a day 5 days a week---walking right now. I am planning to add some strength training it to it.

    newie!!

Hi all, just thought i would start a new thread. I have been researching lap bands on the internet for a week now. I am 23 and i have always suffered with my weight. I have done weight watchers, been sent to some women from the nhs who i had classes with about food and exercise, (I know it all but i just cant put it in to theory), i have tried reductil, xcenicol, none of them have ever made much difference. Im fed up of being the girl with pretty face, oh and big boobs, lol. they are a plus to my size, the only one mind. Anyway after physchin meself up i finally went the doctors today, and she agreed i have to have some tests over me periods being so irregular as in not had one for 5 months and then i have to go back to my doc and she is going to refer me, IM MADE UP. My boyf said yesterday what makes you think you will get one??? So when she agreed to get the ball rolling, i coulda kissed her!! maybe not but im made up. As far as im concerned life can only get better. sorry for so much chatting just wanted to tell some one, anyone !!! natty13 xx:biggrin::eek::mad::tongue::biggrin:

    Hiatal Hernia Question

Funny you post this I'm having the same issue...when I went for my two week post op visit I explained to the nurse about the dull pain and that's when she explained to me that the discomfort was do to my hernia repair...that was the first I even knew I had a hernia repair...it is perfectly normal according to my surgical team...
  16. I am a week and a half post op and I feel like my mouth is so dry! Its driving m e crazy...Protein drinks dry me out...juice drys me out...so I've been drinking water but it only lasts for a couple mins. Is there anything I can do for this? Is this normal after surgery?

    Relationship with Spouse

Add me to the November anniversaries! Three years come Nov 8. It was our dating anniversary and seemed natural to keep it. Plus it was a Wednesday and the local judge only married people on Wednesdays. Lucky for us!
  18. I am close to 4 weeks post op and I have been out several times. We did a Chinese buffet and I had a bowl of Egg drop Soup, and took half of it home in a container for lunch the next day. I went with a group to a Mexican restaurant and ordered a single side serving of refried Beans. We went to a Chili's and I ordered a bowl of Tortilla soup and asked for mostly the broth, which is all I ate. I haven't had any problems finding something to order, and I don't mind sitting with others that are eating a full meal. I also know that soon enough I will be ordering appetizers or Entrees along with them... and getting several meals worth from mine! I am very comfortable for now saying " I just want a bowl of Egg drop soup".

    Weight Gain

Hi, I am 5 months post op from my gastric sleeve surgery! I weigh myself every Saturday morning once a week. Since the Gastric Sleeve surgery I had lost 59 lbs. Got on the scale and it said I gaine 3.7 lbs. in 1 week since last weigh in...anyone have did happen? I did not deviate from my diet seems odd. Out of 22 weeks I have gained weight in only 4 weeks usually lose between .5 - 2 lbs per week! thanks, Rob
  20. Get in a Protein shake that's 20+ grams of protein but to be honest it took me a month to get in over 400 calories. I was on liquid for two weeks and then mushies for the next 4 with Protein shakes if needed but when I first started solids this is what I would consume: 4 egg whites (16 grams of protein) 68 calories 1/2 cup ff cottage cheese (16 grams of protein) 90 calories 1 chicken thigh slow cooked no bone/skin (14 grams of protein) 110 calories 2 cups of skim milk (16 grams of protein) 160 calories Totals 62 grams of protein 428 calories Of course check with your doctor and nutiritionist but this worked for me.
  21. Thanks...I already am moving more than I was before surgery.....I am keeping track of the little successes....like the first week home I walked three of the 7 days. This week I have managed to walk 6 of them, AND have spent two days in a row doing laundry all day AND have packed two rooms for our move. ALL of which was more than I could even begin to do the week before surgery. Today, even tho I didn't get a chance to walk, I did spend about 40 minutes playing with my weights here at home--both my upper body and lower body. Before my RA dx, I was very active....exercise has never been my enemy till the past few years. However, my weight has been a problem all my life......I am just happy to be able to move more than I have for the past few years. Just trying to get past my mom's comments AGAIN.

  23. I was freaked out leaving my dh and three little ones at the hotel when we went for the surgery. I was alone (or Eric was in hell with three ages three and under in ahotel in a foreign country) for about 4 hours. Doctor Ortiz's mom brought DH and the three for a visit at about three in the afternoon. I had already been up and walking. I needed to nurse the smallest one. I took no morphine or other drugs because of this fact. I then retuned to the hotel at about 8 pm that night. So I could be with them. It was so nice and really not that bad. If I could have had them at the hospita the whole time - I would. Knowing that if there was a problem DH would be there too. I was really worried about that. It however worked out great . In regards to telling spouse. It wasn't a problem for me- dh and I had been discussing it for months- He was surprised it took me so long to get it done. I think he was really worried at first, but he saw how much research I did and etc, and he realized I was serious. I also made sure he new I had the will done and letters of intent incase there was a problem. Good Luck!!!

I told limited people and waited till a couple of weeks before surgery to do that. My kids were stunned. Worried about how risky it was and then acted as if I didn't tell them. Another family member, who never dealt with weight, stated how all she had to do to be healthy was make a life style change. People who haven't dealt with the physical and emotional pain of obesity don't understand doing this. We are doing it for ourselves. Good luck to you. Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App
