  1. I have the same concerns and have gone through same exact things as you. I have the band currently and it is slipped. I am in process of seeing if insurance will approve band to sleeve just waiting. With all the questions that I have had I was advised to turn to a forum on facebook that helped me out a ton. You ask one question and you will get tons of responses. From what I have seen, it is different and you dont feel the same feeling when you eat/drink. Search on Facebook for the group Lap Band revised to Sleeve and just request to be added. I cant even tell you how much advise and questions I had have been answered from there. Hope this helps!

    Can this band be saved?

I had the band last oct. 31. It has been a resounding failure. I was either underfilled or overfilled the whole time, and I didn't lose much (maybe 15 lbs). My doc wants to revise me to a sleeve. I am very interested and I think it would work for me, but it turns out the price is too high (even with the doc waiving his fee). I am wondering, is there a way to "start over", to really try hard with this band? I cannot be filled any more than I am now, due to a hietal hernia. I have low to moderate restriction. I get full easily and stop eating, but then I am hungry an hour later. Can this band work??? I just don't want the money and time to be for nothing. I had a hernia at the time the band was placed, and he fixed it. As we were looking into reasons why the band might not be working, he ordered a GI series, and it was then that we discovered the hietal hernia had popped back out. He feels that fixing it again would be fruitless bc it will probably just pop out again. I take full responsibility for not always making good choices. I sometimes get frustrated with the band and things getting stuck/feeling uncomfortable that I "eat around" the band. I usually exercise quite a bit. 4-6 times per week. For some reason, in the past few months I have been so down that I have let exercise go. I know brain-wise that exercise will help in all respects. I just can't make myself do it lately, for the first time in my life I am pretty sedentary (except that I run after three kids and work). I was excited about the sleeve bc of the fact that it is more restrictive, and bc of the fact that the sleeve cuts out the part of the tomach that produces grehlin, the hunger hormone. One question: I know in my heart that I accelerated through the post-op diet too fast. Could that have "stretched" out the stoma/relegated me to failure? Thanks so much, y'all. I appreciate the time and help.
  4. I had the sleeve to RNY revision because after my sleeve my reflux got really bad. Having to have surgery twice was no fun. I would really consider having RNY if you already have reflux.
  5. thank you for sharing....I am too praying that my surgeon can revise me in one procedure...

I was a revision from the lap-band, so the questions I had would probably be different from yours. Dr. Barker was very good with explaining exactly what the surgery was once I started telling him I didn't like the band (gave it a good 3.5 yrs). I know Dr. Kim and Dr. Davidson have great reviews from others on this site for other DFW area docs. One doc I can tell you to steer clear of though is Dr. Glenn Ihde. New to WLS and very dishonest. You'll want to know how long the doc thinks your post-op recovery will take, how often you should get labs taken to check that you're getting all the nutrients you need, if they have a support group (if you think you'd need it - Dr. Barker has one I know), what their schedule is regarding your post-op diet (how long on Clear Liquids, mushies, etc.), what his complication rate is, how many sleeves has he done, stuff like that. Good luck on finding the right doc for you!
  7. Has anyone had a sleeve to bypass revision? I have reflux really bad and am told that will help. I had surgery done 3.5 years ago, unfortunately in the last 6 months I have also started gaining weight. Can I expect to lose weight if I do this? Also trying to figure out how to get insurance to pay as it is to relieve the reflux, weight loss is secondary.

    Here I Go Again.

I am scheduled to go in Monday for a revision surgery, due to a leak in my port. I am not as nervous as I was the first time round but as the days get closer I feel nerves going. My worst fear now is the fact that I won't be knocked out. They are going to numb and sedate me. They say I probably won't remember anything with the sedation so I will trust them with this. In the mean time I have tried to keep myself busy by turning my blog into more of a website. Nothing fancy but dressing it up some. So many things I would love to do with it but happy with it for the time being. It is www.shoppingwives.com I do real honest product reviews and cover anything from food to trips. I am not selling anything, just offering my opinion. Of course I also talk about everyday life, my family. bargains.. I vent. It's the good, the bad and the ugly. I also started a facebook page for it: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shopping-Wives/299042063541771 Please feel free to like my page and follow me. I would love to hear from you. After all I am going through it will sure help to have friends! Tabby
  9. On November 14th I had a gastric bypass revision. I had one incision that brought more pain than the others. Days later I found out that it was infected which led me now having to pack the wound daily. During the revision the surgeon told me he got rid of a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgery and fixed a hernia. The one thing I’ve have an issue with now is that I don’t feel the same restriction I felt during the first surgery and that scares me. It’s starting to make me feel like the revision didn’t happen. Has anyone experienced this ?

    Fear Of Weightloss

I'm a revision b/c I only lost 20 lbs with the band and the sleeve is so much better. I'm 4 weeks out and have lost another 13 lbs with the sleeve. I'm a "slow" sleeve loser but at least I'm losing whereas with the band I stalled for 3 years. I had the hunger problem with the band and the sleeve has cured that. Good luck!!
  11. OK, so I am a low BMI lap-band revision sleever. My biggest body image problem is my stomach. I was HUGE when I was pregnant. My stomach was ridiculously large. So, I have the dreaded stomach skin hanging down. I have never been able to see my C section scar wthout lifting up my stomach - even at my lowest lap-band weight of 176. So, yesterday I was getting dressed and I looked in the mirror and there was one part of my stomach that had pulled up enough that I could see the scar!!!!!! Not the whole stomach, but a bit of it had pulled up. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! I had to look at it again this morning to make sure it wasn't a fluke. This is better for me than any scale number. My stomach is the one thing that really makes me insecure. Now I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And, honestly, I can't believe it - it's only been 2 weeks. Thanks for letting me share--- Lara

    h. Pylori

I had h. Pylori a year before surgery after having so many troubles from my band. When I started treatment I could not adhere to it because of the terrible metallic taste it have me. So I never took the treatment. Year later I had revision surgery and nothing was ever brought up about it, but untreated h. Pylori can lead to stomach cancer. So if you can side effects be sure to comply with your treatment.
  13. Hi everyone. .Just joined. I was banded in August 2010. I'm on my preop diet scheduled for revision from band to bypass on the 22nd. It's taken years and 8 canceled surgery dates and a change of surgeons and insurance hurdles, infections, and a total of four years from wheni decidedto revise to get to this point and I'm terrified that the scar tissue will prevent the revision. .I don't think my nerves could handle another postponement. Right now I'm really struggling with the preop liquid diet. I'm kept up at night by hunger pangs and I'm too weak to do anything. I'm also very nervous about all the things to keep track of. The Protein, the Vitamins, the liquid, I'm si s scared I'll mess it up and harm my recovery. I have adhd so preplanning and tracking are a huge challenge. I'm open to any ideas to help simplify the process and calm my nerves. My main goal with this surgery is to aleviate my pcos and start ovulating again. I'm 30 years old.
  14. I had my revision Dec 28 .I am still on full liquids.I suggest strained Soups.Applesauce at this point is a Nono.... Are you adding Protein powder to your drinks/shakes,cream of wheat? It is too early for you to be eating any solids..,be careful.

    BAND FREE! YES YES

Band removed & Sleeve done 5/27/14. Mind you I was first Banded in 2010 then Band replaced in 2014. I had success in the beginning with the Band, then the slips & not being able to tolerate food. Also the Band is not a FOREVER thing in which is not told in the beginning. I work in the medical field & 3 Nurses that had the Band for 7 plus years revised to sleeve & the Scar tissue from the band had started attaching to the Liver. My scar tissue wasn't bad at all being that I just had it replaced in 2014. I'm in the healing process but thanking GOD everyday that I not only maintained, but that I'm making it through day by day. Much success to each of you.

    Correction. Revision to Sleeve 5/27/15
  17. Anyone have the same problem and what did you do. First ".i will be self pay for revision from band to sleeve. I've heard most have to have a stress test before surgery. My problem is I have a torn cartridge in my knee and can't cycle or walk enough for a stress test....to do a medical stress test the cost is about 3-5k. I CAN'T afford that plus the surgery! I'm trying to find a solution so I can have the surgery. I'm looking for a surgeon in the DFW Texas area. I've heard good things about Dr. Manuel Castro and he specializes in revisions. Anyone with feedback on Dr. Castro or stress test problem? I haven't talked to Dr. Castro yet so I don't know if he requires the stress test....ohh and I'm over 50. Thank you for answering.

    Back to sliders

I have been doing better the last few days. Bringing poor choices into the house is something I really need to improve. Over the years my husband has taken over the shopping many times at my request. But he is so busy, it often slips back to me. I was planning that this revision was going to be a new start for my whole family. My husband and boys are all thin. But we still should not be having so much ( or any! ) chips and Cookies in the house. Lots of work to do here! Why is it so hard for me to keep it out of the house? It's like I need it here. Security.

  21. Janette, I assure you, you will not regret revising from the band to the sleeve. It is the best thing that ever happened to me and I feel so blessed to have been given the opportunity to revise. The difference is like night and day. I am not dissing the band, for many, many people it works wonderfully. But, there are those of us who have nothing but problems with it and it completely ruins our quality of life as a result. Once you get the sleeve, you will be amazed at just how much the band occupied your thoughts and choices. Best of luck to you.

    New and Quite Shocked!

Welcome.. I am scheduled to have the sleeve on Oct 19. Can't wait..You will find a lot of support here. Many have had the revision from the Band to the sleeve with great success..Good luck to you.. Connie
  23. Best wishes in your research. I have zero personal experience with any of these surgeons, but have a few friends that have used them. Dr. Nick Nicholson Dr. Wade Barker Dr. David Kim There are members here that have used all of the above surgeons as well. You might want to do a search for those surgeons in the search box, and see if you can find some of their posts. I did research Dr. Nick and Dr. Barker pretty intensely when I was looking at self-pay for my revision vs. Dr. Aceves in Mexico only because my husband would freak out with me going to Mexico.
  24. Hello! New to this site on the gastric bypass side anyway... I was a previous member before and during the golden days of the lapband. The golden days are over, I am so ready to get the band out... It seems there were different stages of life with the band in the past few years, that I thought were bad and seemed to get more uncomfortable. The more horror stories I hear the more I realize this thing is crap and should be taken off the market. I started the process to get band removed and revised to bypass in Oct 2013, Met all the requirements and wasn't approved by psych, did therapy and it helped, then as a military family we moved and had to start the process all over again. So I finally have a surgery date August 12!! I received the insurance approval on Friday !! Whoot! Whoot!! I am so excited, as well as a little nervous. I know several bypass patients who have been very successful for 10, 15 and 20 years... I am ready to live a healthy life forever. I am in the process of buying my Vitamins and trying really hard to do the modified pre op diet until next week and then I will start the pre op diet. Which consists of lean meat and veggies, and 1 fruit a day. Which is too far out from what I am doing already. Although I am super excited these are my concerns, was wondering if yall have had any of the same concerns. I told my boss I was having surgery, didn't mention what type he's a doctor and didn't want to go into details, and judgment of the lapband. But I feel like I should tell in case their are complications. I am scared to death, I will wake up with the band removed and the bypass not completed. And last surgery is on the 12, and I have to be back to work the 24th. I work in a small practice and there is no one to cover for me if I need more time. Thanks to everyone and cheers to getting the band removed and starting a new life!!

    Damage to Sleeve

I'm getting a revision from the band to the sleeve next Thursday. I was successful with the band while I had it for almost 1 1/2 years, before it slipped a few times. At the point where it's going to keep slipping so we're opting to remove it & get the sleeve instead. Having definite pain & taking liquid vicodin for it once a day, at night, to help soothe it. With the band, when I was full, I would burp, like a sailor. And I do mean, like a sailor. Not very lady-like at all. I'm praying the sleeve will continue working for me & keep me satisfied. I think I'll be able to sense when I'm full, but hopefully without burping & throwing up like I used to. It was not pleasant at all. I'd love to hear from other fellow banders to sleevers....
