    My pants almost fell off!

Looks like you are having a great NSV!

    NSv sadness

My husband and I went to a show last night, and I was so nervous about the seat. I've avoided all shows for the last two years after I went to a Prince concert and had to ask for handicapped seating because the regular seats were too small or, really, my backside was too big to fit in them. Guess what! After 81 pounds, I fit just like everyone else! I acted cool, of course, but I was thrilled inside. until... A woman who weighed perhaps a bit more than I did four months ago tried to sit down two rows ahead of me. She had to be miserable all night. She sat forward and tried to act like she just needed to stretch her back, but the true story was all too apparent to someone who had lived the same experience such a short time ago. How I wanted to give her a hug and tell her that there is a way out of that misery! My journey is far from complete, but the band has totally turned my life around. I wanted to share the answer I've found. I guess I just wanted to reach out a hand and pull her out of the pain I saw on her face and felt in my heart. and yet.. I realized it would be in poor taste for me to approach her. If we had bumped into each other in the ladies' room and had started talking, that might have given me a window. It didn't happen. Please share, do you approach others in situations such as this?

    My first NSV :)

Thanks Jack and Suzy. I am feeling rather chuffed with myself hehe NSV = non scale victory
  4. That is fantastic news. Just that in itself is adding years to your life! The weight will come off, but you are going to find that the NSV's (non scale victories) are sometimes more important than the stupid number on the scale!

    Interesting, what people notice.

Love it! NSV's keep us going.... It's the little things we gave up and are getting back.....

    I have a silly question

No silly questions around here.....a few silly answers, yes, but no silly questions!! If you are using Choose2Lose.com (and that's the only one I can figure out myself!)......when you get it designed, copy the top address box and take it to your 'edit signature' and paste it in your addy box. Every time your weight changes you have to go back and build it again...kind of a pain but they are neat to look at!! NSV=non scale victory. Some great thing that has to do with your journey but not necessarily losing another pound (like being able to cross your legs for the first time in years!).
  7. Okay--I created a ticker at ticker factory, but I cannot figure out how to get it to the bottom of my posts. I'm sure it is something relatively simple and I am just an idot!:bananapartyhat: Also, another stupid question--What does NSV stand for? I am fairly new to the boards, so still learning! Thanks for the help! 258h/248s/227c/140g Banded Nov. 30, 2006 Dr. James Smith, Pueblo, CO
  8. Today I finally noticed another change. After 6-8 weeks bouncing around the same weight, my longest stall so far, I put my pretty watch on, and it was super loose around my wrist. In my fat days, I could barely do its bracelet up, and it was digging into my skin. Today, it was half way up towards my elbow ..... And I lost a full shoe size! Even though my (I'm not happy with you right now) scales haven't budged much, obviously I am losing inches/centimetres .... Yay for small NSVs ! 8 months post op, and I am well past my honeymoon phase, and I am so grateful for any improvements.
  9. Woohoo! farmgirl04! I like the results that you got from your ladies at the store. That in itself is a great NSV!!!!!

    Bye bye plus size department

    NSV's

I have to share my NSV. Yesterday on my daily walk I found every few steps I was pulling up my pants, so when I got home I went shopping in my daughters closet and tried on her pants, THEY FIT. She wasn't very happy that I stole her pants, but I sure am. Started at a size 30W now a 22W, long way to go but I'm well on my way. I can't remember the last time I was in a 22. I forgot to add I haven't driven in several months and today I borrowed my daughters little kia car and for the first time I didn't rub the steering wheel. I also walked to the store twice today which is a mile, with a long hill at the end. I feel so proud I could burst. You see, no more using a wheelchair, walker, or cane, I sent them to the nursing home.

    NSV's

Today I'm wearing a shirt that I haven't worn in 3 years!! I don't have too many items of clothing that is too small because we moved last year and I just gave up and threw just about everything away. I got so many compliments today at church and I'm really no different than I was last week except the shirt :0) Thank God for NSV's!!

    NSV's

You mean you won't miss all those horrid horizontal stripes??? WTH is wrong with designers???? And while yes it is off topic--but related to that--back when I was in plus sizes, the style was short shirts, tight---nothing with the length in the shirts I needed. Now I am in Misses clothes, and the long length, almost maternity look is in-------aaarrrggghhh!!!! My newest NSV-----my Dr in filling out my paperwork for a referral over some recent medical issues wrote me down as a 47 yo woman avg. build. YEEEHAW nowhere on it did it say morbidly obese anymore!!!! Kat

How Are People Treating You After Surgery?

Since I haven't been back to work yet since my surgery, I'll throw this out there just for fun. I just got a rejection letter on Saturday from a job interview I went on about a month ago (I know, Happy New Year to me). It was a state job with excellent benefits and would have meant a substantial promotion (more money, more responsibility). I was qualified for the position, and the interviewers seemed happy with my responses to their questions during the interview. I couldn't help but wonder if my weight played a role in not getting the job. There! I said it! I think that people in a professional setting do not take me seriously because of my weight. By the way, one NSV for me was that I DID NOT stick my head into a vat of ice cream because I was rejected. I was certainly devastated because a job at this level doesn't open up very often. I boo-hooed a bit and decided that there must be something better out there waiting for me and that's why I didn't get the job.

    NSV

Today after a great therapy session, I got up and left. Halfway out the door I stopped dead. I realized that for the first time EVER I was able go get up and walk away without having to pull up my pants from rolling under my belly. Very good feeling.

Anyone wear skirts now but didn't before??

Oh god, to wear a skirt or a summer dress! *dreams* I can't sit comfortably with my knees together yet, and haven't been able to for years - not sure I even remember how! I've tried a few dresses but I look like a sausage tied up in the middle and SO uncomfortable when sitting. Can't wait for that NSV!!

Yes. The lower your BMI gets and the closer you get to goal the more your body will try to hold on to the fat. Just keep doing what you are doing. Maybe look for NSV's instead.
  19. Whoo hoo! Had a similar experience in my closet Sunday. I put on a pants suit for church that I knew was a size 18 I had kept from a million years ago. The top had a little wiggle room but the pants were snug....zipped up but not that comfy. Decided to wait a week and try again. Then when I took them off I noticed I had the wrong pants and they were 16's!!! I totally cried too! I found the matching pants and wore that size 18 bad boy with comfort and wiggle room! Got to love those NSV's!! SO happy for you and your size 16 self!!!
  20. I posted this on some of the Yahoo boards, but wanted to share with you all, too. Thanks for the genuine support on this board, it is always so refreshing. First the SV's......I was banded 11-05-04....I have lost 40lbs and 41 inches!!! Now, the NSV's.... I am wearing clothes that have been hanging in my closet for over 3 years (some even have the tags still hanging on them). Some people notice...some don't. I sleep better. I no longer take my acid reflux med. I can sit in some chairs and movie seats much better. My daughter commented that it is so weird to see such small amounts of food on my plate. And, this is a great one....my hubby (who is greatly overweight) has decided he wants to get the band also, after seeing how well I've done. I was really disappointed at first after the surgery because I was not losing like I thought I should, however, I made it through the holidays without gaining an ounce. I have had 2 fills in the 11cm band and I'm up to 5.25cc in the band. I still think I need another fill.....and I'll probably get it in a few more weeks. I can feel the band working for me, now, and I, in turn, am working it. I will start Curves, I think, in another month or so. As soon as I can "move" a little easier and can get MY confidence up. I'm working on it, though. Everyday I get closer and closer to making that all important step to get out there in front of others and exercise. I will encourage everyone...if you do nothing else to....DRINK LOTS OF WATER!! It is KEY to losing. It's habit forming. I sleep better when I've had all the Water I need. I feel better. My skin is healthier. My joints don't ache as bad. AND the scale moves downward!!
  21. Thanks so much! Biggest benefit is definitely the way I'm able to move, run up a flight of stairs, carry in groceries without huffing and puffing. Basically the things that non-obese people take for granted! Favorite snack is greek yogurt, esp Dannon light n' fit caramel apple pie. Best NSV is hard, b/c there have been so many. I would choose buying clothes off the clearance rack. The reason being is that clearance rack clothes always seem to be size S or XS. Now I'm small enough to get the great deals! LOL!
  22. My 19 year old son hasn't seen me since I had surgery two weeks ago. He came by for a visit while I was working in the kitchen today and said, "You look skinny, Mom." I was like WOW! It even brought tears to my eyes.....It's the simple things.

to offset the bad moments thread

c'mon kim...you gotta have an NSV to share.
  24. So for those, say either 4 months out or about 50 lbs. down – I have a suggestion: think of the things you are going to do today or did this morning that you would not have been able to do, or do without discomfort, etc. – and share them!!!! Let’s give our brave new pre and post sleeve brethren some NSV’s to look forward to! <3

    May 06 Bandsters~April Chat!

Kim ~ LOVE your pic....you are beautiful!! You are going to be in onederland b4 you know it. It's funny how 9 lbs can seem so small and yet so big at the same time. You'll get there!! Neal ~ We ended up in the Yukon/Mustang area. Edmond was too much of a drive for work considering the traffic. We love the easy access to OKC and the small town feel you get in Yukon. I have to say we are really impressed with the down-home feel and the friendly people that don't even know you from Adam. I swear the guy from the drive-thru at Starbucks chatted for 5 mins. We are going to love it. The moving company comes next week for the estimate then we will schedule the move within the next couple of weeks. Lapbandit ~ Super NSV on the new clothes!! Great time of year to go shopping too. Amy ~ Have fun shopping. Does you DH get a new suit? Hey Myra ~ How's the wagon ride.....are you back on yet? I hear you on the junk food. It seems to go down way too smooth. 3Loves told her surgeon he forgot the band on her brain. Food can really mess with that tummy/brain connection!! Give us an update on how your doing.
