New Food For Post Ops...
gillumd replied to lovelygirl01's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before my surgery I would only have protein shake for breakfast or protein bar, early snack yogurt fat free with fruit, lunch protein shake or protein bar,mid day snack which yogurt fat free with fruit ( fruit had to be size of tennis ball). Dinner 3oz of meat any unlimited vegetables but no starchy vegetables. And if I got hungry at nite I could have any vegetables that were not starchy or fruit. And of course I could not put any butter or any fat to season food. -
Today is my first day trying semi/soft solids. I am eating some rotisserie chicken with Greek yogurt, salt, pepper an cayenne for seasoning. It's actually pretty good. I'm making sure I chew it well, even after unused a chopper to blend it all together. This morning was Greek yogurt, then a chocolate-peanut butter Protein shake (they're heaven!!) and now this chicken salad. So far, so good. I'm down to 249.4 which is 17.6 pounds down from my surgery date so I'm super excited! How's everyone feeling?

Vegetables after weight loss surgery
BLERDgirl replied to Shannon Piper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My typical base is either Isopure unflavored whey or on occasion CVS vanilla whey with sunfiber plus half to whole cup of Fage 0% Greek yogurt. I then add fruit, cacao powder or nut butter to taste. I almost always use water to mix and loads of ice. I drink half before my 9am water aerobics class & half after. I end up with 30 - 40 gms of protein before noon. -
Early Plateau: Is something wrong?
julasif replied to GApeach80's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So we were sleeved the same day. The EXACT thing happened to me! 18 lbs the first 13 days and then absolutely NOTHING until 3 days ago. I started eating every two hours and I upped my exercise to include some arm strengthen exercises and a VERY light jog on part of my walk(it's more like a shuffle really because I'm still afraid of jarring movements, but it seems to get my heart rate going a little faster than just walking alone). I also actually took out a protein shake. So I have 1 protein shake (Premier with 30grams protein), 1 serving cottage cheese (10 g protein), 1 yogurt (Greek triple 0 has 15 g protein), 1 spoonful hummus, I spoonful peanut butter, 1/4 cup broccoli cheddar or chicken soup). It's under 600 calories, and it seems to be working because I'm now down 3 lbs in 3 days. Or maybe it doesn't even matter and it was just naturally time for the stall to end. Whatever the case, I'm glad to see the scale moving again. Good luck to you! Just remember, nobody EVER stopped losing for good 2 weeks after weight loss surgery. Our body is just a little freaked out right now, I'm sure. -
Nykee, I know you've heard this before but I'm going to say it again. PLEASE try to get more Protein in! Do you like cheese? Instead of crap try eating cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, Beans, decent food. I can't imagine what your nutrition levels are like with what you say you're eating, and that probably has a lot to do with your lack of energy and inability to sleep normally. Why do you think you need a fill? If you're restricted so much that you literally cannot eat until evening, you do not need a fill. What you do need to do is get a decent assortment of food in your house so you will start giving your body what it needs to heal and improve. Designing a liquid diet for after a "nice, tight fill" just defeats what the band is all about. This is said with all the respect and affection I have, seriously, I know you can get control if you want to. You've come so far already and now it's time to get smarter about this process. Don't get a fill--change your shopping list.

Anyone else sleeved Monday may 20
SouthernSweetheart replied to sissytx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the pureed, I've done garden peas, mashed potatoes, refried bean, mashed up baked beans, I'm still doing yogurt and pudding. Pureed part is hard BC its not very appetizing at all. More ideas on others foods would be great for me too! -
The change in your taste buds can really make things difficult. I couldn’t eat some of my favourite vegetables & proteins for quite a few months so I hear you. Don’t worry, they will start to taste yummy to you again as you progress. I found nothing really tasted good on the purée stage until a friend told me she could successfully eat puréed poached chicken with lots of gravy & chicken stock. It was probably the salt from the gravy & stock that made it tastier lol. I ate a lot of soups - strained & puréed - as they seemed to go down more easily. As did yogurts. Take it slowly to introduce purées especially if they are causing you discomfort. Start with one purée meal a day. You may be someone who needs to go through the stages more slowly - it’s not uncommon. Good luck.

Surgery in a month and wondering about protein?
sleeversue replied to nelady's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I love Unjury that is advertised on this site. My Dr. sells it at his office. There is an unflavored that you can add to broth, yogurt, applesauce, and jello and pudding you make yourself. I also love their Strawberry Sorbet, and Chocolate Splendor. I don't care for the Chocolate Classic. They have vanilla and chicken broth too. One another brand I like is Isopure Grape Frost. It is only sold in a bottle. I buy it at the Vitamin Shoppe. You can try a bottle or buy a case. I say try the bottle first. -
One Month Anniversary- June 29th
Dibaby44 replied to IamKe69's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Im June 23 and it really is flying by. Although i have to go back in monday to be scoped and opened up. I cant eat anything, even yogurt for the past 5 days. So one bump in the road. Hope you are doing well with it. Im literally melting away. 46 pounds all together -
Have your tastes changed after surgery? I didn't gain my weight from sweets and can't stand all those flavored protein drinks, bought some unflavored and put it in some soup. It was so gritty. I am going to try some of the vanilla protein in some super tart plain Greek yogurt to see if they will balance each other out.

vsgjourney replied to tfowler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Tomorrow makes 2 weeks post op for me and protien is def an issue for me. Since the surg im def lactose intolerant so i had to skip the shakes and yogurt phase. Im able to move to potatoes and cream of wheat tom. Im so happy abot that. Overall im doing well now. Down 37#s from my highest. -
I often used sugar free torani syrups or a little sugar free water enhancer powder (like crystal light or true lemon) into plain fat free greek yogurt. It was amazing to create so many fun flavors and fine tune them to my tastes.

I HATE broth!!!
Starwarsandcupcakes replied to Dajshadenee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Campbell’s well yes sipping soups (no chunks to strain!) thinned a bit were lifesavers for me even though I like broth. Also, try a no sugar added sorbet or frozen yogurt. FYI- pudding and jello are on the full liquid diet (along with things like milkshakes for non-WLS patients) because they have a tendency to become liquid if left out at room temperature which makes them easier to digest and swallow (important for those with dysphagia [trouble swallowing]). -
I had a mini gastric bypass and after the surgery I was told I needed to take 2 weeks off. I thought I’d be fine after 1, but now I get it. Having extra time to heal and build back some energy is very important. @fiddles - just a very heavy, uncomfortable feeling. It’s like I can feel food sitting in my esophagus. When I first started on liquids earlier in the week, I could tell right away when I had enough water. But with the liquidy yogurt, it’s been harder for me to tell right away.

I never experienced any problems with intake after the first week. I drink muscle milk once daily, then I consume Oikos yogurt, refried beans, pure protein bar, sometimes cream of wheat, sometimes sugar free fudgsicle, tuna, sweet potato....

Are you getting the sleeve or gastric? You might have said already. My pouches name is sassy gassy! [emoji12] we all name it at least the sleevers do. You are going to go through a lot of stages afterwards. Especially with constipation, emotional withdrawal from food, but when you have that moment in a clothing store because you need a few new cloths you will be having a moment that no one can take from you. I was very emotional, disconnected. I will never forget it. Now you have the frustration of I can't spend a lot because it won't fit four months down the road. Get to know your sale times at the goodwill, thrift shop. The night of your hospital stay. Go in PJ's bring an extra pair. Slippers because it sucks walking in socks. Bathroom stuff (toothpaste) bathrobe. I also brought my two favorite pillows and blanket. And walk constantly. I walked every hour and did laps. It helps with the gas and pain. I didn't bring a bra or anything I didn't give a shit. I lived in pj's for a week went to store and everything. I also was aloud to have full liquids 3 days after surgery. I made a shit load of Chobani frozen yogurt. All I did was add skim milk to it water it down and little tiny red cups and pop sticks and froze them. I would walk in the morning with a frozen yogurt. I made my own beef, pork, chicken broth (bone broth).. I froze it in little containers so I can just take it out add it to mash potato's or drink it. Post and pre-op. I made frozen jello and refrigerator jello. Also a pillow small one you can carry around because when you cough it hurts your tummy pressure with a pillow helps. Pillows to prop you up in bed. I have an adjustable I lucked out.

I think pancakes was a bad idea.....
elcee replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can eat pancakes. So long as I eat them slowly and chew well they don't cause me any problems. I had some last week for Breakfast whilst on holiday with friends that don't know i'm banded! Just remember that any food can cause a problem it doesn't mean you can't eat it again. The band is fickle. For instance I almost always eat a poached egg on wholemeal toast for breakfast with no problem. This morning it just wouldn't go down. I got about half way and had to PB because it was so uncomfortable and had a drinking yogurt instead. That doesn't mean I can't eat eggs on toast anymore. -
Yes creamy pb from jar..with dannon light and fit greek vanilla yogurt...I probably used 2 heaping tablespoons of Peanut Butter which is why I will only eat a small spoon full 1x a day...but it really hits the spot

Best yogurt to eat post OP?
Miss Mac replied to KM1284's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I mix Aldi's FIt & Lite brand of vanilla Greek yogurt equal parts with ricotta, plus a little sweetener. It Is a nice smooth addition to shakes, too. -
4 and half weeks ago. I’m in the soft food phase and feel like I can drink water same as always ( the only day I felt I had to sip was the first two days after surgery). I need to constantly remind myself to not gulp water, but a bit concerned that I can gulp water. Today, I think I ate too much , but find it weird that I only stop eating because I know I should versus feeling full: am: pure protein 6 am protein shake and at 6:30 about half of a Greek yogurt /lunch out with dad :half of a tuna melt without the bread, heavy cheese ... I felt like I could’ve ate more/dinner at 6:O0=4 ounce creamy soup/ 7: 00=sugar free popsicle (30 calories )/8:00=cappuccino popsicle (40 calories

How long before you were in bandster hell?
ALuv82 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey everyone. I was just wondering how long after surgery people stopped feeling restriction and went into bandster hell? I'm 3 weeks out and I'm wondering not because I'm there already, but because I'm not. If anything, I'm actually afraid I'm too tight. Is it too soon for me to tell that, or should most of my swelling have gone down by now? I've been on mushies for a week now. I had my first post-op appt last week 1 day after starting mushies and I told my doc that when I ate I got that pressure in my chest that feels like indigestion without the burning. He said I was probably just eating too fast and I should slow down. Well, I've been eating plenty slow now. The info packet I got from my surgeon's nutritionist said eat 2 oz protien and 1 oz carb at a rate of 5 minutes per oz. Well, it takes me at LEAST 15 minutes to eat that much and I still get the feeling. Yesterday I even felt uncomfortable with a yogurt and a medifast. Although the weird thing is that the more solid stuff actually seems to go down more smoothly. I had turkey meatballs and felt fine, but apple sauce is almost always nucomfortable. I haven't PBed yet, nor have I had anything stuck, except maybe a piece of canned peach and that only lasted for about 5-10 seconds. My surgeon does prep the band with a small amt of Fluid at surgery, although I'm not sure how much. Has anyone else still felt this way 3 weeks post op or were most of you already in bandster hell? Is it possible to tell this soon that I'm too tight or will I still continue to loosen up some. I have already talked to my doc like I said and he wasn't concerned but that was a week ago. If it keeps up I'll definitely call him, but I was just curious how other people felt this far out. -
I am afraid you are going to screw up your metabolism. You need to eat at least 1000 calories a day or you body will go into starvation mode. Believe me you body never forger that. You need to eat Protein with every meal or you body will start eating you muscle. Muscle burns more than fat. You want muscle. Here is the menu they gave me: Sample Menu: Breakfast meat Carb Fruit/Veg. 2 eggs Waffle/toast 1 pat butter 1/3 cup light yogurt & 1 egg 3 slices turkey bacon 1/3 cup oatmeal 2 Tbsp. Peanut Butter 1 slice toast with 1/ 3 cup low-fat cottage cheese 2 peach slices I egg 1 turkey Sausage Waffle/toast 1 pat butter lunch Meat Carb Fruit/Veg. ½ cup diced, grilled skinless chicken breast mixed salad greens 1 Tbsp. light dressing 4 Turkey Slice – 1 string Cheese 3 slices of lean turkey breast, ham, or roast beef 1 slice low-fat cheese lettuce, tomato, & mustard 1/ 3 cup Low Fat Refried Beans 1 oz. shredded 2% cheese 3 Baked Tortilla chips 1/ 3 cup Black Bean Chili 1 oz. shredded 2% cheese 2 peach slices dinner Meat Carb Fruit/Veg. 3 oz. oven-fried chicken breast 1-2 Tbsp. cooked carrots 3 oz. grilled chicken breast 1-2 Tbsp. grilled vegetables 3 oz. roasted pork tenderloin 2 slices cooked cinnamon/Stevia apples 3 oz. oven-fried tilapia 2 Tbsp. low-fat coleslaw 3 oz. grilled salmon 2 Tbsp. mashed sweet potatoes Snacks 1-2 Meat Carb Fruit/Veg. Is This Too Easy?
girlnamedNikki replied to O.T.R. sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's nice to read that it's so easy for others as well, I kind of felt bad posting stuff like that on here when others are talking about barely getting down liquids. I'm 3 weeks out today, lost 31 pounds already (yay!) but I do seriously question my dieticians methods. Doesn't make sense to me and everyone else is so different plus I'm freaking hungry!! My post op was a bit difficult because I did cheat and tried Beans too soon. In turn this caused me to be backed up and I ended up in the ER twice with obstructed bowels. (Side note: I recommend anyone PRE-op getting an enema prior, only makes sense in my eyes, especially now) Anyway now I'm puréed and it sucks! I don't get how people are eating lunch meat with cheese or greek yogurt when we are (according to my dietician) only supposed to have 1/4 cup of food. Or cheese sticks? I know I've been bending the rules and eating soft foods and I really can't eat more than like 1/2 cup but if it's Soup, even with chunks, I can do a full cup+. Anyway it's frustrating seeing all these different post opp diets and not knowing what is right and wrong. Yes everyone heals different but I wish there was a unified post-op diet. Heres mine: 2 week full liquid (I went 2.5 cause I was in and out of hospital and they feared leaking) 3 week puréed food (until aug 8) / 3 meals (every 5 hours) / 500 calories / 18-25 grams of Protein a day (She's changed me to 3.5/4 hours eat, cause of my lifestyle and the fact that I'm hungry) 1 month soft food (until sept 9) This is let the sleeve properly heal I've been told. Frustrated. -

3 Days Post Op.....
Kate Erdosy replied to Deleted Profile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out. No nausea, not much pain, no BM yet, first visit today. 6 lbs in 1 week - a bit disappointing, but 12 if I count preop. I'm not feeling much restriction at all when I drink. I may get a tiny bit of pressure, but that's it. I'm starting to wonder if I still have my stomach in there. I am allowed greek yogurt this week and oatmeal, but only 2 ounces. No problems eating those. Am I crazy? Did anyone else have such a smooth road the first week and after eating the first small amounts? I'm not ungrateful at all, but just beginning to wonder.
