    Donali's NSV Thread

Donali - Those are awesome NSV's. I wish I could have my head screwed on as straight as you have yours. I know that didn't come easily for you, either. Wow, wow, wow - I'm so impressed with your attitude and outlook on life and ability and willingness to help others! Thanks!
  2. Okay, I have to do this to participate in the Slow Losers Unite! thread. These are TRUE NSVs (NON-scale Victories), since IF I were using a scale it would be going up. Ready for some true creativity?? Here goes: I am on a journey towards health - physical and mental. Although I DO hope a by-product of that journey is a smaller physical me, my challenge to myself is to accept where I am, embrace where I am going, and to be kind to myself along the way. I want my life/thoughts to stop revolving around my WEIGHT, and to continue to LIVE as I was learning to do while I was banded. I am also learning to take care of myself and my needs. My challenge to myself is that all of my NSVs will be written without "qualification" - i.e. "I looked great!" as opposed to my natural impulse - "I looked great! (for a huge person - )" 1. My scale was retired to live under my sink as of about September 2004. I never weigh myself. (HUGE victory!) 2. I bought five outfits last week because everything I own is now too small. I was suffering and uncomfortable, and feeling unhappy about growing bigger. Finally I realized that I was in some small way punishing myself by refusing to buy clothes that fit NOW. I would never do that to someone I loved - so, new clothes - that fit! 3. I wore a new outfit each day this week, and did my hair and makeup. I felt and looked great. 4. I will be attending group hypnotherapy 2 hours a week for 4 Wednesdays starting next week. 5. I made my appointment with the surgeon to fix my right foot, and am now just waiting to get my surgery date (congenital birth defect, similar to a club foot but not exactly the same.) 6. I am recommiting myself to drinking my 4 quarts of Water each day. I am almost 100% on getting in 2 of them - I just need to add in two more. 7. I recolored my hair red last week. 8. I wear perfume each day. 9. My negative self-talk has not re-established itself - I continue to feel positive about myself and where my life is going. (Yay me! ) :banana :banana :banana

    NSV for me!

    OK- I started exercising with Turbo Jam a little over a month ago. (and I am totally addicted) I have not lost a single pound since April 14th (still at 195) but I have lost a total of 10" in this period of time. 10 inches! That brings my total inches lost since surgery date to 30 1/2 inches. Two and a half feet of volume gone forever! I'm pumped. Measurements 9/14/05 vs. 4/18/06 vs. 5/24/06 bust: 47 1/2 ---> 43 ---> 42 (-5 1/2) chest: didn't measure in the beginning ---> 40 1/2 ---> 38 (-2 1/2 with turbo jam) waist: 48 ---> 39 ---> 35 (-13) hips: 51 ---> 45 1/2 ---> 43 (-8) thigh: 28 ---> 25 ---> 25 (-3) arm: 15 ---> 14 1/2 ---> 14 (-1) I started out a size 22W, and I have gone from a size 16 to a 14 in just the last month.
  4. So I started at 219 and am now down to 166 *horray* but for whatever reason my confidence level has never been all that high, and as for social skills with people I don't know forget about it. Well tonight I went salsa/merangue dancing and danced with SEVERAL attractive guys, and I was good! (so they say) I would have never had the confidence to go out and give it a shot before now. So that's my first official NSV. It may be superficial but it was so much fun, and good excersize!
  5. How cool is that? I can't wait to have my first NSV!
  6. I had the best NSV yesterday. I was trying on coats at a department store. I tried on the blue one and went for a black one. This tiny little women then asks me if the blue jacket is a medium, because that's what she's looking for. I can't believe that anyone thought I might be trying on a MEDIUM. Granted the coat I was trying on was a Large, but, you know just last year it was a 1x and 2 years ago it was a mighty tight 3x. Who knows maybe I will be a medium soon! I love my band. Cindy

  8. jaxmom

    They exist, they really do!

Yey now I'm not such a newbie I know the answer to something! A NSV is what is known as a Non scale Victory. Something fun that does not necessarily show up on the scale. See all that I've learned from these smart folks? :) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Daisee68

    They exist, they really do!

Congrats! That is definitely a NSV and one of the best ones in my opinion!!

It’s small, but my first NSV

Angel, That is absolutely a NSV!! I understand where you're coming from and you should be quite pleased! Think of it this way, all that food is not inside you, working against you, it's in the garbage working for you (in a wierd way but I think you know what I mean!) You're doing great, keep it up!! Katie

  17. Calling all April Bandits of 2006: Let's come together and share our successes! What is your "Bandiversary" goal? What have you learned this past year? Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? What is your biggest challenge? What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? What is your greatest fear? What goals do you have for the future? How has your life changed? Has living with the band met up to your expectations? If you could talk to yourself a year ago, what would you say? Thank you, my friends for all of your posts and for your successes. I have paid particular attention to our April '06 group. I feel a kinship with you. Good luck and happy bandiversary!!! :happybday2:

    Liquids are aw(ful)some!

I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. They're both true, but I can't make up my mind which is more true. I hate liquids because I would really like a hamburger or some Chick-fil-a. I love liquids because they broke my stall. I've been stalled for 3 weeks now. I had my 4th. fill on Wednesday (9cc total) and Dr. Jay requires liquids for a whole week. I've lost 7 lbs. since Wednesday. :biggrin1: :clap2: :biggrin1: I've also had a NSV. I was trying to get ready for work and it took me 15 minutes to find a pair of pants that wouldn't make me look like an M.C. Hammer impersonator. That day my work handed out Wal-Mart giftcards for Xmas. So I figured I would use it to buy 2 pairs of workpants. I've been wearing size 22 pants. The ones I bought for work are 16/18!! They're a little snug but that means I'll be able to wear them longer. After Xmas I'll be going shopping for everyday clothes. I can't believe that I'm actually looking forward to going shopping. It is also time for a challenge update. Those three weeks at a stall have really shortened my chances of making this goal. I'll get close though and I'm happy with that.

  20. Hi Tammie Congrats on being banded! Calories- most common range is 1200-1400/day. I really don't count, I just try to make good choices. Protein- A range from 60-90 grams (not milligrams). Bending over- Check with your doctor. I'm shocked you can't bend over now being banded a month ago. I was pretty much at 100% at 6 weeks out. PB- "Poductive Burp" which is actually upchucking food when it isn't chewed well enough or too dry. Experience and a proper fill will greatly reduce these occurrances. NSV-"Non scale Victory" i.e. fitting into a size smaller jeans. Good luck on your journey! Bruce

How Do You Set Your Goals?

My surgeon didn't even want to hear my weight goal. He asked me what my other goals were. Being confident and active was what I told him. I want the NSVs more than a number. Walking and biking with my boyfriend. Hitting up the theme parks. Feeling better about myself. Spending time with friends I'm too ashamed to see. I even have a goal to be at a friend's anniversary party when I should be 8 months out. I would never go otherwise. Numbers? 200 lbs. No date. Just gotta go. That came from the bariatric nurse/patient liaison being frank with me ("Honey, you got 200 pounds to lose."). So it became my goal. If I get under that? Yay me. (I have a secret goal. Shhhhh. 150. Upper limit of my normal BMI. But that seems a million years away.)

    April 2006 Bandiversary!!

What is your "Bandiversary" goal? My goal is to be "overweight" instead of "obese" - I'm close! If I don't make it I promise not to "beat myself up" - I will soooooon! What have you learned this past year? That it is not "all or nothing" - before one slip would send me over the top and to making all the bad choices again. That I have to slow down in my expectations - I want it all off right now!/want to be able to exercise for 2 hours and feel like a kid again - For me, that does not work. God willing I have time to make this life changing adjustment to the way I eat and the way I make my body move. Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? My ankles are no longer swollen, my knees do not hurt, my blood pressure is normal, I handle stress so much better.....................I can walk miles.........I love to exercise (amazing)! I fit into a size 12 pants (that are getting a bit baggy).....and a M/L top..............bra size went from a 44DDD to a 36DD.... What is your biggest challenge? To listen to the full signs - still have a tendancy to put more in than I can handle..............at times still forget to chew my food good (yes, even after almost a year)...usually when I'm talking and not paying attention. What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? Follow the bandster "rules" - get the fills that you need - it does so work! I love my band....use this tool correctly and it will do the trick for you. START EXERCISING - JOIN OUR EXERCISE GROUP...............for me this has been the second best tool. What is your greatest fear? Losing my band! If I did - I'd have it replaced as soon as possible. What goals do you have for the future? To continue on my road to better health thru more weight loss (this year's new goal - and additional 20 - 40 lbs) and keeping myself as fit as I am now and possibly adding additional fitness classes (more strenghth building). How has your life changed? I'm a healthy 67 year old grammy of 8.............I feel "light" - I don't hurt - I like myself - I look forward to a healthier older age! Has living with the band met up to your expectations? YES, YES, YES. For those of you who don't know - this has been a verrrrrrry stressfull year - my 44 year old son AND my 71 year old husband both had heart valve replacement surgery...........they're both doing great................AND any other year I would have gained weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yipee - thank you band and all my band friends!

    April 2006 Bandiversary!!

Calling all April Bandits of 2006: Let's come together and share our successes! What is your "Bandiversary" goal? I dont think I have one, one year ago I thought I would be thin, but thats not realistic since I had like 130-140 pounds to lose. What have you learned this past year? That food doesnt need to be my comfort thing:-) Could you share your most rewarding NSV (non-scale victory)? I havent seen my empoloyee since he left last January, when I met him couple weeks ago he didnt recognize me:-)and also I can finally shop in normal clothes stores:-) What is your biggest challenge? overcoming my cravings and sticking to small amounts of chocoalte:-)plus not weighting myself every day What tips would you pass on to the April 2007 newbies? listen to your body and dont get upset when you hit a plateu, just stick to your excercise and good food choices.dont weight yourself very often just watch sour clothes...and definitely come to LBT cause the support I get here also keeps me going:-)and I must thank to my fellow bandits:-) for all their suppor.THANK YOU ALL!!! What is your greatest fear? That I eat something Im not supposed to eat and that I will fall back to my old patterns (overeating).I guess Im getting a bit obsessed with food, which is not very healthy What goals do you have for the future? losing another 26kgs(57 pounds) and being hot as hell..lol..if needed I might get the TT or breast surgery, but I hope that good excercise with my trainer will help me How has your life changed? Im more confident and happy with myself.I love the attention I get from people, telling me that I lost so much weight:-) Has living with the band met up to your expectations? Yes definitely Bandsters of April 07 if you have any questions or comments feel free to ask because when I was doing my research people here helped me so much and I will be more than happy to help others to my best knowledge:-) Hey and excuse my English Im Czech and English isnt my native language..lol:D

    new NSV haha kinda

so my parents are coming up this weekend so hubby and I decided to go through EVERYTHING in the house and get a truckload of stuff to take to the goodwill (no joke either hehe we had 3 bed house now 2 bd apartment no room!) so tonight i decided to go through my closet... I found a pair of jeans that i wore pre-surgery that were size 34 I held them up to my body and HOLLY cow im like half the size of them now lol its soooo crazy. I have only bought two pairs of pants and a few shirts since after surgery and 70 lbs ago but as my last NSV when my nurse laughed and said it was time to retire my fat clothes i had to. The problem now with money so tight and STILL trying to get a job i cant afford to buy anything since we are barely paying the bills right now. Its kinda sad to see my closet empty but happy at the same time.. what a rush of mix emotions eh? anyhow i keep treking i just had a job interview hopefully it works out alright but i am absolutely terrified that I will get it for the fact i have to dress professionally and im about 1/2 size to big to fit into the dress pants that walmart has not to mention the fact were dead broke. Its a scary situation cuz i need the job to buy clothes.. but need the clothes to work at the job hahaha shrug good laugh i hope hehe I'll have to take a pic of me holding up my "fat" jeans!!
