    colds when sleeved?

My surgery was Sept 8th. At my 3 week post-op mark, my kids brought home head lice. I had to clean like a freak, do massive amounts of laundry and treat & check 3 heads, plus mine. My hubby just shaved his hair. Lol! I paid for it by over doing it and actually ended up taking some pain meds I had left over, plus some valium from having my hiatal hernia repair done at the same time, as well. Because I over did myself, I ended up getting sicker than a dog with a nasty head cold. I had been down for 4 days and completely exhausted. I could not function. Then my 8 year old comes home with a concussion. Oh dear God! I am at wits end. I literally cannot handle anything else right now. My husband has been a saint thru this whole thing. I ended up calling my Nut because I was having extreme pain in my left shoulder on my collar bone when I would eat. It would last for 15 minutes afterward. She told me to take a step back in my foods and go back to really soft mushies. October 7th, my birthday, would have been the day when I can eat normal foods. My nut said it is a referred pain from my hiatal hernia repair. My esophagus is enflamed, as well as my hiatal hernia repaired area. So, eating won't be as easy again until the swelling goes down and the coughing settles down too. I also have to increase my Protein in take to 100g and no less than 64 oz of Fluid everyday. My body is trying to still recover from surgery and is also really trying to fight a nasty cold. So, it doesn't leave me with much of anything to have any energy at all. I am grounded to the couch for another 2-3 days to recover. I've already been there for 4 days. I think I've grown roots already. Ha! I hate just sitting/laying down doing nothing. But, I also feel horrible. I've also been advised not to go to a funeral that is out of town for obvious reasons. Either have to take care of getting myself feeling better and stay on the down low or end up in the ER. So, I am being a couch potato and sprouting roots. Being sick with the sleeve in the 1st month of recovery makes everything about 10 time harder. Trust your doctors and keep healthy, even if you have to post pone. Hopefully, my light at the end of the tunnel will appear in the next couple days. I am so anxious to not be sick anymore and just focus on becoming the healthy me again!!!

    finally in onederland!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week i got weighed and measured by my trainer to see how i have been progressing and i can say i hit ONEDERLAND!!!! i have lost about 25 inches totally of my body (10 inches of that is my waist) and lost almost 10 percent of my body fat. when i started my journey in july i weighed in at 265 and last week friday i weighed in at 199. i still got a ways to go but i just wanted to share my success on here and maybe it will motivate someone else who is thinking about doing this. this is not a miracle band of any sort. i have had 2 fills and dont even have 5 cc in my band and yes i can eat like a horse sometimes and i can eat anything i want but i choose not too. i watch what i eat and i also excerise pretty much daily. i cant believe i have gotten down this much!! the other day i went to the mall and saw some jeans on sale 50% off so i decided to try them on. my friend tells me get a size 10 i was like no way i cant fit into that im still close to 200 lbs. then she said just try it i picked those up and also a 12 and a 14 (i wasnt sure what size i was but i knew my 16's were falling off my a**) and i tried on the 14's first and they were too big so i tried on the 12's and i couldnt believe they actually fit..OMG then i went to the 10s to try them on i knew they werent going to fit. well im half right and half wrong. i couldnt believe i was able to button them up. another OMG.... well i didnt exactly look like a model in them lol they were way to tight and i have to prob lose another 20lbs to be able to fit in them nicely but im almost there. i cant believe 2 more sizes i will be in the single digits again in jeans. when i weighed in at 185 i wasnt even in 12's or anything i was like 14's so i have to say i have to give probs to my personal trainer for shaping my body. i got so much to go i got atleast another 10 percent to go in body fat and maybe another 40 to 50 lbs depending how i look at the weight. if im in a 8 i think i will be happy and satisfied. just got to get rid of this baby/beer belly. lol .........
  3. Hi all, well it has gone by super fast, but I'm one month out today. Was sleeved 9/10. My main exit incision pain is pretty much healed. That was my nagging pain, which was worst part for me. My weight loss one month post op surgery is 27lbs. Total weight loss pre op & post op together is 74lbs. Blood pressure has dropped significantly about 25 points. It's very exciting! My main problem right now is that honestly a lot of foods, almost all, just don't sound appealing to me. Many of the Proteins and meats just kinda don't really sound good and I was definitely a meat eater before surgery. Hoping it changes some moving forward still some point. My goal for month 2 is 20 lbs. CHEERS!

    Stargate SG1 fans?

I own them all!!!! Including the original movie and the two sequal movies. I once bid 3000 dollars for a chance for my wife to have lunch on set with Richard Dean Anderson, while making this last movie. I lost. It went for 33000 dollars!!!!! I also own the Wizard of Oz painting that was above the directors desk for 10 years. Ok, and I own a couple of props from the filming of the series, a zatnicatil and a gun from the Wormhole Xtreme episode. I won't say what they cost, too embarrassing.

    Everything Talk

I have 2 questions for anyone out there. #1 can we drink the Cherry Berry Chiller from Mc Donalds? its suppose to b all natural juices with 0 calories and less than 20 grams of sugar. I use to drink them before my surgery, However I am affraid to drink them now unless they are ok to drink. I am 6 months post op. #2. I have a friend who is going to get the Gastric Sleeve. She was approved by her insurance, she completed her stress test, blood test, Psych test and her class. Her surgery date was scheduled for May. Her doctor refused to do the surgery because she did not lose the 10 lbs. Has anyone encountered this problem? my doctor didn't even mention the 10lbs. I thought we were having weight loss surgery because we tried everything else HELLO....... WTH I don't understand this, my doctor was very thorough with everything , but this was not an issue.Wouldn't this cause a problem with her insurance co. the second go around? because now she has to wait until she can lose the 10lbs. and she will more than likley have to do all of her test again, blood test, psych. test stress test etc. which will cost her insurance and they may deny her the 2nd time around. This has made her very very sad and her doctor knows she has problems with her legs and knees which makes it very difficult for her to exercise. I just think her doctor is being rediculous. What do you all think? very interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks

    Sugar Free/no Sugar Added?

Great post, Krista! I was wondering the same thing. I'll be sleeved in mid-June. I really like the powdered drink mixes w/aspartame that I can get from Walmart or Dollar Tree - 10 tubes per box. I have a ton of them and wondered if I can drink them after my surgery. All the best for you in two days!!! Keep us posted!

    2 days Post-Op

Returned home this afternoon. My story, thus far - hoping it helps... Thu-4-Aug: Checked-in to the hospital in the evening. Some bloodwork, to ensure my numbers are in control. Antibiotic allergy test. Anti-coagulant injection. Full meal at 10pm. Fri-5-Aug: Surgery day! Had to wait in pre-op for an hour (this is a HUGE hospital!), nearly toppled the OT table getting on , woke up in post-op, with a bit of gas pain, pushing up into the chest. Doc told me they had to push up my liver to pull out the stomach, so I would have bruised my lungs / diaphragm a bit. The pain medication worked quickly, and I was comfortable within 1-2 hours. Six incisions - guessing two were to "manhandle" my liver - these are the only two that are somewhat painful. Nothing to eat or drink - on IV fluids through the day, and night. Op started 10:30am; done by 1pm; moved into a room by 7pm. Quite comfortable in bed, except for the gas discomfort. Apparently, they pump you full of gas, to help with the surgery... Sat-6-Aug: Slept well through the night - comfortably. Got out of bed at 7am (two incisions are still tender!) and walked around the room. On IV fluids through the day; they did a "leak" test (fluoroscopy), and then allowed me to sip some Water, coconut water, and some sugar-free apple juice. Sun-7-Aug: Again, slept well. Discharged at noon, and back home. Have to consume at least 2 litres of Fluid - seems like a mountain. Frequent walks around the room - the tender incisions are better. All in all, a very "manageable" and not-so-unpleasant experience. So all of you sleevers-to-be - just smile! And good luck with your surgeries! Great hospital - fantastic surgeon - self-pay (no insurance coverage in India yet!) - cost me around $6000 (incl hospital stay). Connect with me, if you need a lead. Last, but not least, appreciation for my wife, who stood with me like a rock through all this, and made it all so much easier. Love you!

March Sleevers... How Are You Doing?

Heya one proud papa March sleeved here. I've had plenty of lows but cruising along slowly. No weight loss since discharge from hospital was in 10 days and lost 8 kilos. Gone down 3 dress sizes though. How u doin.
  12. I am only 10 days post open and my family wants to go swimming. Think it would be safe for me to go? Seems my incisions are closed up but scared to take a chance
  13. hi all july 19 is my 1 year i have had no problem's with band, i think i have the slow loser's title i can't convert from kilo's to pound's very well but it's around 22-24 pounds and 2 dress sizes and it's simply my fault i have good restriction but it the wrong stuff, but i am happy enough it's going slowly and at this rate by our summer in dec i should be down another size
  14. Hi-I cannot believe it has been almost a year. I am pretty happy with my weight loss. Have had some ups and down through the year but have managed to keep it going. I know that had I not decided on the band I would never be this weight. I have been able to get clothes "out of hiding" (i have several boxes and sizes packed away in my basement) I am wearing clothes that I haven't seen in 10 years and never thought I would wear again. I am thrilled with my progress but like many others I kind of wish it was faster.

    Love & Hate relationship

My NP wanted off the protein shakes at 3 months and get my protein from food. I still drank one a day because I had a stricture and could barely eat anything but mushy until my 4th or 5th month. Drink as much as you can. If you can get 40oz in, you are doing great. I am 19 months out. A few bites and I am done, too. Welcome to your new normal. Your hair will grow back. Promise. Metamucil in your coffee or water will help with the constipation. You can't taste it and it works wonders. Find something else that makes you feel good. Relying on food to make you feel good is what probably got you here in the first place. That's a slippery slope you are treading so early out. Chocolate isn't giving you physical energy, either. It will give you a sugar rush and then you will crash. Bad bad bad cycle. Heartburn may never go away. I never had it before but I do know. I take my PPI and tums regularly. You don't want to hear this but chocolate gives you heartburn: http://www.health.com/health/gallery/0,,20443643_2,00.html ChocolateBad news for chocolate lovers: Chocolate seems to cause more reflux than any other food. It’s a triple whammy: 1. Chocolate contains caffeine and other stimulants such as theobromine, which cause reflux. 2. Chocolate is high in fat, and fat causes reflux. 3. Chocolate is also high in cocoa, and cocoa causes reflux. Theoretically, dark chocolate isn’t as bad as high-fat milk chocolate, but let’s face it—all chocolate is bad for reflux.
  16. I am now 1 of 8 women that I have met on here that have gotten pregnant after at least 10 years of infertility. So I am telling you now....if you want it, it can and will happen and I wish to sprinkle you with a bit of baby dust today....GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

    HATE this liquid diet!!!

I'm going to say that I can only imagine! Sounds crappy. My pre-op diet was two whey protein shakes (chocolate flavored) mixed with skim milk and two meals that each consisted of 3 oz. lean protein and a steamed veggie. Post-op wasn't so terrible even though I had 10 days of liquid -- I mean, it was a wide variety of liquid and most of it tasted pretty good. I can see that giving up carbs, caffeine and all your other vices along with things like CHEWING would be pretty awful. At least you're at the very end. Surgery is a speed bump. Down for a couple of days and then you're on your way. GOOD LUCK!

    Port slippage

I'm trying to figure out where the port sight is, haven't been in for a fill yet. I thought it was where my scar is, but last couple days my side has been hurting up higher like right under my rib and feels all tight . I had been walking ok, but yesterday it hurt so bad I almost couldn't finish my walk. Keep hoping I'm just paranoid. Banded 12-28-10 still have 3 more weeks before I go back to the doctor.
  19. I remember first couple days I could only sip... now 10 days out I feel like I can take almost a "normal" drink. Anyone else?
  20. I am on the praise team at our church and sang 10 days post op. I was a little winded but it was nothing major. Within a month I was fine.

    2nd fill HELL!

Oh how dreadful. These fills are so fickled. I don't react until 6-10 days after a fill. I've also found that I can't tolerate a big fill, even though the barium flows right through. Time of day, weather, what you've had to drink/eat that day, etc. are all factors. Glad you got relief. Continue on liquids today to keep the swelling down. Good luck on your next attempt.

  24. Hi everybody Im due to be banded on july 31st 2007 :clap2:and have been battling with my weight for about 22 years i was slim at one point but never realised it as i was so crap at liking myself and thought if i were thiner people would like me more the fact that i had a low self opinion due to my background never entred my head and that i had ENORMOUSE BOOBS :omg:and although i only had a twenty seven inch waist when i married DH i was told the only way to get rid of the boobies was to DIET! WRONG COS that led to years of yo yo diating and am now 87lbs heavier than when i wed DH. Boobs went with surgery:whoo:. So you may be asking why do i want to know what it feels like to be slim well its because its been such a long time i have forgotten. Cos even if i lose 30lbs i will still be thiner than i am now BUT i wanna go the whole way and its scaring the poop out of me as i have failed so many times before.:hungry: So all you lovely fellow bandsters out their who have pased that place that we get down to on convential diets and then start putting it back on again (my door slams shut at 12st 2lbs and then i get scared and it all piles on again) please can you tell me how you delt with it and how wonderful, frightened etc you felt and how it feels now.:help: thanks guys x 19 days till banding
  25. erikaz, glad you asked that question? I was banded 6/3/09 and since I started the optifast 2 weeks before surgery, I've lost 30 pounds. I'm afraid my dr is not going to give me a fill on 7/10. I seem to have restriction even without any fluid but want a fill so I stay fuller longer. I get full fast, but it doesn't last too long. I'm not complaining about the weight loss but I really would like a fill.
