Well into my pre op liquid diet

Well, I’m 10 days post surgery and feeling stronger every day! I feel very lucky because my surgery went so well and I was up walking with no nausea and little pain. Discharged 48 hours later and working my liquids every day. My scale hasn’t budged but I honestly think it’s broken bc all my clothes are baggy and my face is way thinner. Thanks for all the encouragement!! I’m happy to finally be on the losers bench. 😀😀

    Dehydrated

It's so important to keep sipping, sipping, sipping sugar-free non-caffeinated liquids all day long. I usually get 10-11 glasses a day of water or water with peach teach crystal light powder in it.

    When eating...

It’s seeing my small portion on a large (normal sized) dinner plate that gets to me. When at my home I eat from side plates & tapas dishes but when I visit friends or family my small serve looks ridiculous on a dinner plate. It’s like a plate at the end of a meal not the start. The reverse happens too. Last night I ordered a small piece of fish & a half serve of vegetables at a local pub. OMG the size of the meal was horrifying. The food was almost falling off the plate. I felt sick just looking at it. Could have easily shared it with 10 WLS buddies & we all would have been full.

    Stomach leaks

Mary, Have you had a previous weight loss surgery, “lap band”? I had a lap band about 10 years ago, and had it removed about 2 years later. I think that could of had something to do with my leak. Had I known the procedures for a leak, I would never done the surgery. But I know it’s rare to get a leak. If you have big problems due to being overweight, I would not hesitate with surgery. I honestly should not have had surgery. I have sleep apnea and joint problems, otherwise I am healthy. Great blood pressure, no major issues. I’m just to vain. I was really unhappy about being overweight, but really I need to lose about 70 pounds. I don’t think that’s enough for surgery. I go back for a drain test this Wednesday. I feel sure I still have a leak because I have to much fluid coming out of my drain. I send prayers your way Mary. Please let me know how you do. Cathy
  5. Hi, I was sleeved 7/31/19. I only told my husband and two sons and my daughter in law. I did not tell anyone at work as I don't feel its anyone's business. Every one at work knows I have been dieting for the longest time so no one really questioned the rapid weight loss. If I'm asked, I'll tell them I changed the foods and portions I eat along with lots of excercise which is true. Good luck with your surgery and on your new journey and whatever you decide to tell people. 5'4" Starting weight 297 VSG on 7/31/19 Surgery wt: 266 CW 215 GW 135 Sent from my [samsung Galaxy] using BariatricPal mobile app

    Lifting?

im post op 2 months also. You don't want to rush extreme lifting though because i have a abdominal hernia from my daughters cesarean that happened 5 years ago because i went working too soon and lifted too much. I goto the gym now but im not bench pressing anything . I started a light workout with a weighted ball that was simply 10 pounds and i would sit on my butt and place the ball to the left , right , then back left again and it didn't strain anything. Everybody is different but just be on the safe side.
  9. Just my 2 cents but she obviously has no idea what your BMI is and I'm wondering if because you lost the weight quickly in her mind you have lost too much because you have shrunk so much in between the times she has seen you? I'm 5 foot 10 and 147lb/63-65kg was my ideal weight, no one ever said I was too thin, which is what makes me wonder if her view of you is skewed because in her mind you are much heavier? Funny that I am now 178lbs and people keep telling me I am 'tiny' (compared to 4 months ago), well the people that don't see me regular;y tell me I'm tiny because I look so different each time they see me. Deffo see what the bariatric team say they would be more clued up on the weight and leave the head stuff to the psychiatrist. YOu are doing really well x
  10. Yes fairly normal. 10 days out and HUNGRY ! lol Think I'll have some soup.
  11. I had thought of getting WLS for years but was never truly ready. I just had my sleeve done on 11/20/19. Best decision ever. I felt ready and confident in that decision. BUT I didn't tell me family. I of course told my husband, children and parents. That was all! The rest of my family I knew wouldn't understand and I just didn't want to be bothered with all the questions and negativity. Thanksgiving was difficult because I was only a week post-op. So of course everyone noticed I wasn't eating. They asked why and had noticed I was already smaller so I told them. And I got mixed reactions. Some good, some bad and some just didn't care. I had one aunt that said, "Now why did you have to go and do that?" Instantly soured my mood but then I remembered I did it for my health and not theirs. My whole family is overweight and they're used to me being the same way so it's hard for them to see that I'm taking my health back. I agree with the others here...become as informed as possible first and then make the decision on your own. I have found so much information on here that the doctor never told me and this support has been amazing. I found a video on here yesterday that made me feel so much better about my emotions, etc. Good luck with your decision!!

    December Surgery dates???

This is so exciting seeing everyone’s progression from before surgery to after surgery! Mine is scheduled for Monday and I have to be there at 5:30am. I take my preop meds at 4:30am. I’m so excited and nervous. When I started the program I was 280 and as of today I am 259.8. I’ve lost 10 lbs on the 2 week diet as of this morning. I’m buying some GasX, Stool softener to have that ready at home. They already prescribed me Zofran and Tramadol for after surgery and I have that at home. I want to order the Unjury flavorless protein powder but I keep forgetting lol

    Steamed Chicken

Just checking, but according to your side profile you were sleeved 10 days ago? Has your team cleared you for solid foods? P.S. At 10 days post op I was just carrying around protein powder and a shaker bottle in my purse...
  14. The Lap Band was a great tool, until it wasn't. About 50% of the people that have had them for over 10 years are now having problems with them and getting them removed. Many WLS docs wont even do them now. I also was one of those statistics--it worked great for about 6 years and then the problems started...slow weight gain, constant vomiting, reflux, etc. I just got it out three weeks ago--it had slipped--and got a RNY revision and I have already lost 20 pounds. The band should be working for you, not you working for it. Whatever what you decide to do, good luck! We are here for you!
  15. Yep, that's it. She has severe GERD. I told her that high carb diet is one of the causes. "I might have to give up my favorite italian pastas?" She needs to give up more than pasta if she wants to have a healthy retirement (she just retired at age 62). She has been vegetarian all her life. So diet is lots of bread, pasta, muffins, bagels, potato casseroles, milk, flavored yogurt, cereal and veggies. Also, has had severe sleep apnea for at least 10 years but refuses to get help because doesn't want to use CPAP. All six of us have small airways. She is the only one not on CPAP. So she hasn't come to the point that her health isn't impotant enough yet to make lifestyle changes. Sent from my SM-T580 using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I hate these Lovenox shots.  That is all! LOL

    Feeling like a pin cushion.

I know they are needed and it's only 10 days worth but I really hate giving myself shots. It's one of the reasons I want to be healthy because diabetes runs in my family

  17. I am at the very beginning of approval process. Attended orientation and waiting for initial appointment in January. I am age 66 and have Medicare & Supplement Policy. BMI=45, 245 lbs. 5'1" tall. Have a number of obesity-related comorbidities which my primary reason for looking at bariatric surgery. Most health insurance companies require 3-6 month medically supervised weight loss program showing some successful weight loss on own for approval. Medicare is totally weird. They require 3 months medically supervised weight loss program with full participation and you must demonstrate FAILURE to qualify. If you can lose 10% of your weight in 3 months, you won't qualify. For me, that is less than 24 pounds in about 90 days to be FAILURE. Pretty ridiculous to not qualify because first 10 pounds will only be water loss. I don't have initial appointment until sometime in January (I guess docs want us to get through holiday season for first weigh without worrying about weight gain/loss). Anyone here had WLS under Medicare?

    Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve

Banded in 2012 lost 75 lbs but starting gaining in 2016. Just had sleeve on 12/2/19 down 21 lbs. have come to accept that i am a carb/sugar addict and if i don't come to terms with the addiction than i will ultimately be in same boat.
  19. I had the RNY gastric bypass with Pompeii back on 10/16/19, and im trying out a tiny sandwhich and i took only 2 decent bites and now im full. Has anybody ever tried bread? also my weight loss has slowed , i started at 252lbs and now im 215lbs. does anybody know why it drags down to a snail pace with weight loss?

  21. I had to wait 8 weeks before any veggies were allowed! And I have an organic vegetable garden! It was killing me! Soooo...... I got my greens (lots of different kinds), put them in the blender/Ninja with some water and made a green slurry that I strained and then ran through coffee filter paper. I added my "green water" to everything - my water bottle, my smoothies, my soups. My doc was mad at first when she saw my water bottle, but I showed her that it was a CLEAR liquid which was allowed, and then she agreed I could drink it. (Lot better for me than Crystal Lite or artificially flavored/colored/sweetened drinks.) So that is what I did. I felt like I got my healthy phytonutrients and all the good vitamins, but without the fiber that was forbidden. Brocolli, for some reason, still upsets my tum a bit. Well cooked or shredded Brussels sprouts are OK. Even at 10 months out, I have to chew salad very slowly and very well.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Yesterday, Thursday, Dec. 12 Maintenance : 5'2" / 1yr PO Sleeve / 114.9 lbs ---------------------------------------- 3.5 hour lunch date with BFF yesterday. We went to a Chinese restaurant and then to a tea and dessert place. We shared a shaved ice dessert that was topped with sweet stuff and condensed milk (see the pic below...it's not the one we actually ate, because I forgot to take a pic, but its from the restaurants website). Anyhoo as you can see it is sugar overload. I had about maybe a 1.5 cups of it total and surprise, surprise, I got me some runs later on. Though it was actually kinda welcome cuz I hadn't pooped in about 3 days. So (TMI ALERT).... ...after I got to pass that "plug" (omg, I thought I was giving birth again) it was all watery nastiness after that. Sorry for the graphics. Then of course, I was hungry afterwards! On another note, I went for a run this AM with Mr. and he got me to do some sprinting intervals, and I think I'm going to be sore tomorrow. ---------------------------------------- 9:30am - Coffee-Tea-Cayenne w/ stevia 11:00am to 3:00pm - 3 oz crispy skin chicken dark meat + 1/2 cup braised eggplant & ground pork + 1 king oyster mushroom and 1 broccoli floret + 1 tbsp Sriracha + 1 tbsp hot chili oil + 1.5 cups mixed fruit tea + 1.5 cups shaved ice dessert (see below) 7:00pm - salad w/ vinaigrette + 1 slice bacon + 1/2 fl oz pumpkin seeds + 1/2 tbsp grated parm cheese + 3 oz meatloaf w/ Keto ketchup glaze + 2 oz grilled chicken + 1.5 oz chicharron 10:00pm - 1/2 cup cottage cheese + 1/2 oz pumpkin seeds + 2 oz blueberries + 2 tbsp dried cranberries ---------------------------------------- Totals: 1608 cals - 117g Protein - 79g NET carbs - 102g fat ---------------------------------------- Yesterdays Dessert (for reference), though ours didn't have the orange chunks nor the ice cream, but it did also have peanuts and crunchy oats. I ate less than 1/4 of it. It was HUGE. Plus we were chatting away so it melted and lost its appeal, lol.

    July 2019 sleevers

Well is anyone else having a struggle with the 4-month stall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Holidays, and I have my husband's 70th birthday party with raspberry cheesecake? I will be lucky to hit a 5-pound loss this month as I lost that before the stall and holidays started to happen. Just venting, I am grateful for all that I have lost, the labs were done this month and were good overall. I will be happy when this month of eating is done. Neighborhood party tomorrow so I will get my protein in before I go and take my own water. I thought drinking during the holidays might be hard, but the wine tastes bad now. I will get through this and next month I'll be camping and walking the beach. My peaceful place. Merry Christmas to all, and happy holidays to you too.

    Lifting?

My instructions are strictly no lifting over 10 pounds for the first 8 weeks. I would think you should be fine now but your dr really should have told you yes or no.
