  1. I just had a band to bypass revision on October 24. It took them a while to get my band out too with all the scar tissue and mine ended up being slipped even though they didn't think i t was going to be. I am so sorry you are dealing with so much pain, I didn't have any real significant pain. But I will tell you, being band-free is SO nice, all the pain should be worth it! Congrats on your revision!

    Manhattan Nyc Buddy

I'm scheduled for a lapband revision sleeve October 21st at lenox hill hospital but Dr Roslin will be doing mine's almost 6 days away & I'm excited I live in NJ though but in the city time to time & sure to be at the office for post ops visits
  3. I too had the sleeve 2 years ago an suffered with severe acid reflex an they said only thing would save my stomach an asophagus was revision to bypass an i had it august 18th no more acid reflex but scared how small I will get because everyone in my family that had bypass is like a size 0 so far I'm 37 pounds down an they want me to start working out an i told the doctor I still can't hold solid foods down an she said she's not to much concerned with that as long as I stay hydrated lol but I am concerned all I can hold down is liquids an yogurt an i tried smashing avocado that stayed down
  4. I am only in my 3rd week out, but my doctor put me on a type of prilosec (It's in spanish since I had my sleeve done in Mexico) and told me to take 1 in the morning and 1 at night for 60 days. Wondering if you had done the same in the beginning? I imagine that acid problems could crop up down the road as well. Could you call the dr. and see what he recommends? You could also just try a 14 day round of prilosec or something like that and see if it calms things down. I had the lap band prior to the sleeve and certain times of year, etc. would cause me to have some acid reflux and I would do a round of prilosec and usually that took care of it. Previous to my surgery I was having a lot of acid reflux and the doctor told me to do the 1 in the morning and 1 at night to prepare for the revision. After a couple weeks my stomach settled down.
  5. Dear Dr. Jossart, I was wondering if you would be kind enough to give me some general info re: a JIB revision in to a sleeve gastrectomy in one procedure. If it is possible & advisable? I had a JIB done 30 years ago here in Canada & had lost a significant amount of weight, which I was able to keep off until a few years ago when I became very ill from the blind loop syndrome. Unfortunately this illness controls & impacts my life gravely I need to have a revision but do not know of a Surgeon who specializes in this kind of revision. I understand the surgical implications & limitations due to the previous WLS and I am not sure which procedure would be the best for me to replace the JIB.I am hoping to be able to have a replacement that has long term weight loss with the least amount of long term complications. Any suggestions or names of Surgeons that would be able to help me would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Aqua

    Which To Have

I agree with Christopher the Dummies book is great! It was recommended to me by my bariatric group and I can understand why. Very informative! I chose the gastric bypass because I had already had the lapband for 4 years. I had complications from the lapband until if finally came out in 2010. After that I knew it was the gastric bypass for me because I didn't want to fail "again" even though the lapband issue wasn't my fault. I was very successful with the band for the first 14 months then I had issues. The issues lead to unfills that lead to weightgain. Had the band revised in 2008 and then never had it adjusted correctly again. For the next two years I suffered with overfills, unfills etc until it finally prolapsed and had to come out. So far so good with the bypass - I"m 3-3.5 weeks post op.
  7. I'm 6 months out, had revision from band to RNY on 11-6-12 but my weight loss wasn't anything extreme- I have only lost 32lbs and I voiced my concerns on my 6mo follow up, dr performed some tests in his office which he says he sees my pouch is dilated!! He scheduled me for two procedures that I'll be doing at the hospital to make sure what he saw is acurate, if he is right- I will have to go back to surgery and have my stomach trimmed off!! I'm nervous but sorta relieved that he's detected it so soon, I was concerned as to why I was able to eat so much more than other November members and why I wasn't losing at the same pace everyone else was.... I'm thankful I'm getting some answers and getting it looked into! All I can say is that if you feel something just isn't right, it's up to you to fix it! If I had not been persistent with my dr he would of just thought I was losing at a slow pace since after all I did lose 30lbs! I go in for the tests next week! Hoping to put this behind me soooon! Feels like pre-op all over again!

    1st Post- I have questions

Hi Falcon... I can help with a couple of your questions: 1) Don't tell your coworkers anything. As far as your time off, you're just taking time off. And, at your weight and BMI, you probably won't lose 100 lbs in 6 months (seems like the higher the BMI the faster the weight loss -- just an observation I've made), your weight loss will probably be slower/slow-ish. After banding, you will probably be inspired to start an exercise program (I personally recommend the Couch to 5K running plan, which can be found at coolrunning.com and on several threads on lbt.com). Moderately-paced weight loss and a consistant exercise program will leave your coworkers saying "wow, you're looking great," instead of suspecting anything. 3) I don't know exact percentages either, that's something to get from your surgeon's office, but what I can tell you is that I'm almost a year out and have learned a lot on this website. It SEEMS to me that many many many of the people who have to have revisions of any time caused it by not FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS. That means: 1) you can't keep your band too restricted because you like "losing quickly." 2) you can't "PB," "get stuck," "or throw up" too often. 3) you MUST EAT SLOWLY AND CHEW YOUR food THOROUGHLY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. (This is hard, but important). 4) You MUST follow your doctor's pre-op, post-op, pre-fill, post-fill, etc. recommendations TO THE LETTER, AT ALL TIMES, no MATTER WHAT. It is NOT okay to "assume" you're fine, or bend the rules, or push the boundaries. that's my two cents....sorry for going on and on...I'm feeling a bit fiesty this morning!

    2 Week Diet Started

Hope they can do the revision at the same time as removing the band. Less trauma for your body to go through! Good luck and hope your sleeved soon.

    Surgery on Monday

I had a really similar situation after my leak repair, I spent 3 days on a ventilator in ICU. Once I was released after 9 days in the hospital I was on TPN for 13 days, and had JP drains for a at least a month. I know how miserable you are feeling, but please know it does get better. I'm praying and thinking of you. And my husband was (is still deployed) during my revision from band to sleeve, and his unit would not allow him to come home to be with me. Even after everything I went through, I have absolutely ZERO regrets.
  14. Mine is not where B-52's is but as you lose weight it will stick out even more. Mine wasn't visible but I could feel it. Then one day I woke up and the port was sticking out really bad. My port had flipped and my band ceased to work properly. Well, I finally had a port revision which is day surgery. My port is in place and working again. You should feel something however. If it bothers you a lot call your doctor.
  15. I am hopefully going to be approved for the lap band soon. I meet the NHI requirements, plus I have some of the co-morborbidities. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't consider co-morborbidities, they go strictly by weight. According to them, I need to be 270 pounds (5'4) and right now I'm 225. But, I have newly diagnosed high blood pressure, asthma, sleep apnea, orthopedic issues, but they won't consider them. However, my HR director informed me that they are going to be revising their guidelines for the lap band (which were equalled to gastric bypass)..dumb! Right now, I'm trying (AGAIN) weight watchers and I've just started Alli. I am too young (43) to have this much trouble. I also have a 2 year old granddaughter plus a beautiful 14 year old daughter and I want to be able to play with the grandbaby without problems.I also want my daughters (21, 14) to be proud of me:o Vicki
  16. I have the same concerns and have gone through same exact things as you. I have the band currently and it is slipped. I am in process of seeing if insurance will approve band to sleeve just waiting. With all the questions that I have had I was advised to turn to a forum on facebook that helped me out a ton. You ask one question and you will get tons of responses. From what I have seen, it is different and you dont feel the same feeling when you eat/drink. Search on Facebook for the group Lap Band revised to Sleeve and just request to be added. I cant even tell you how much advise and questions I had have been answered from there. Hope this helps!

    Can this band be saved?

I had the band last oct. 31. It has been a resounding failure. I was either underfilled or overfilled the whole time, and I didn't lose much (maybe 15 lbs). My doc wants to revise me to a sleeve. I am very interested and I think it would work for me, but it turns out the price is too high (even with the doc waiving his fee). I am wondering, is there a way to "start over", to really try hard with this band? I cannot be filled any more than I am now, due to a hietal hernia. I have low to moderate restriction. I get full easily and stop eating, but then I am hungry an hour later. Can this band work??? I just don't want the money and time to be for nothing. I had a hernia at the time the band was placed, and he fixed it. As we were looking into reasons why the band might not be working, he ordered a GI series, and it was then that we discovered the hietal hernia had popped back out. He feels that fixing it again would be fruitless bc it will probably just pop out again. I take full responsibility for not always making good choices. I sometimes get frustrated with the band and things getting stuck/feeling uncomfortable that I "eat around" the band. I usually exercise quite a bit. 4-6 times per week. For some reason, in the past few months I have been so down that I have let exercise go. I know brain-wise that exercise will help in all respects. I just can't make myself do it lately, for the first time in my life I am pretty sedentary (except that I run after three kids and work). I was excited about the sleeve bc of the fact that it is more restrictive, and bc of the fact that the sleeve cuts out the part of the tomach that produces grehlin, the hunger hormone. One question: I know in my heart that I accelerated through the post-op diet too fast. Could that have "stretched" out the stoma/relegated me to failure? Thanks so much, y'all. I appreciate the time and help.
  19. I had the sleeve to RNY revision because after my sleeve my reflux got really bad. Having to have surgery twice was no fun. I would really consider having RNY if you already have reflux.
  20. thank you for sharing....I am too praying that my surgeon can revise me in one procedure...

    Newbie

I was a revision from the lap-band, so the questions I had would probably be different from yours. Dr. Barker was very good with explaining exactly what the surgery was once I started telling him I didn't like the band (gave it a good 3.5 yrs). I know Dr. Kim and Dr. Davidson have great reviews from others on this site for other DFW area docs. One doc I can tell you to steer clear of though is Dr. Glenn Ihde. New to WLS and very dishonest. You'll want to know how long the doc thinks your post-op recovery will take, how often you should get labs taken to check that you're getting all the nutrients you need, if they have a support group (if you think you'd need it - Dr. Barker has one I know), what their schedule is regarding your post-op diet (how long on Clear Liquids, mushies, etc.), what his complication rate is, how many sleeves has he done, stuff like that. Good luck on finding the right doc for you!

    Here I Go Again.

I am scheduled to go in Monday for a revision surgery, due to a leak in my port. I am not as nervous as I was the first time round but as the days get closer I feel nerves going. My worst fear now is the fact that I won't be knocked out. They are going to numb and sedate me. They say I probably won't remember anything with the sedation so I will trust them with this. In the mean time I have tried to keep myself busy by turning my blog into more of a website. Nothing fancy but dressing it up some. So many things I would love to do with it but happy with it for the time being. It is www.shoppingwives.com I do real honest product reviews and cover anything from food to trips. I am not selling anything, just offering my opinion. Of course I also talk about everyday life, my family. bargains.. I vent. It's the good, the bad and the ugly. I also started a facebook page for it: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shopping-Wives/299042063541771 Please feel free to like my page and follow me. I would love to hear from you. After all I am going through it will sure help to have friends! Tabby
  23. On November 14th I had a gastric bypass revision. I had one incision that brought more pain than the others. Days later I found out that it was infected which led me now having to pack the wound daily. During the revision the surgeon told me he got rid of a lot of scar tissue from the previous surgery and fixed a hernia. The one thing I’ve have an issue with now is that I don’t feel the same restriction I felt during the first surgery and that scares me. It’s starting to make me feel like the revision didn’t happen. Has anyone experienced this ?

    Fear Of Weightloss

I'm a revision b/c I only lost 20 lbs with the band and the sleeve is so much better. I'm 4 weeks out and have lost another 13 lbs with the sleeve. I'm a "slow" sleeve loser but at least I'm losing whereas with the band I stalled for 3 years. I had the hunger problem with the band and the sleeve has cured that. Good luck!!
  25. OK, so I am a low BMI lap-band revision sleever. My biggest body image problem is my stomach. I was HUGE when I was pregnant. My stomach was ridiculously large. So, I have the dreaded stomach skin hanging down. I have never been able to see my C section scar wthout lifting up my stomach - even at my lowest lap-band weight of 176. So, yesterday I was getting dressed and I looked in the mirror and there was one part of my stomach that had pulled up enough that I could see the scar!!!!!! Not the whole stomach, but a bit of it had pulled up. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! I had to look at it again this morning to make sure it wasn't a fluke. This is better for me than any scale number. My stomach is the one thing that really makes me insecure. Now I feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. And, honestly, I can't believe it - it's only been 2 weeks. Thanks for letting me share--- Lara
