Hello,
I was banded in July 2009. I have been UP & DOWN in my weight loss. I am military so therefore I have seen 3 different surgeons. In August 2016 I under went cosmetic surgery (Full Tummy Tuck) My doctor has suggested that I have a revision and convert to the sleeve but I am Petrified as I had complications with my TT procedure. Has ANYONE had the sleeve after going through a Full Tummy Tuck???? PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE...
-
There have been people before that had done so. They didn't have problems. If your surgeon recommends the revision, it's probably a good idea. Ultimately the bariatric procedures usually have easier recoveries than tummy tucks.

I was banded several years & knew what me "full" feeling was (tightening in the chest). I know I'm 7 days PreOp of the revision to DS. So, my neighbor brought me some beef stew "juice". I had my 2 oz cup worth. But I feel kinda bloated. Guess I'm not familiar with new signs from my body.

Good luck!! My revision surgery to DS is august 8th 🤞🏼[emoji4]

Anyone with a July surgery-July 17 2017- My surgery date
sistaknoxy replied to BgR72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is July 13th. Its a revision as my 9/1/15 surgery with a different doctor was a bust. Ugh! Second time around. The doctor doesn't know if he will do bypass or the sleeve (again). I guess he will decide when he gets in. -
Hello. I recently had revision surgery from a band to the duodenal switch on June 9, 2017. Since surgery, I have lost 17 pounds, but I have hit a stall at three weeks post-op and it's got me wondering if my body won't respond to this surgery just as I failed with the band. Will I be the first person in DS history to actually maintain my weight eating under 1000 calories? For breakfast, I usually eat one scrambled egg with mushrooms and grated cheese. It goes down easily and fills me up. For lunch, I usually have something like bean and bacon soup or a few slices of deli meat. Sometimes I've had refried beans with melted cheese. In between meals, I'm drinking, drinking, drinking water. For dinner, I usually have fish, such as tilapia or soup with soft veggies and slow roasted chicken. My system cannot tolerate raw veggies yet or salads. As you know, since I'm a DSer, I only absorb 20 percent of the fat I intake. I have arthritis in my feet and knees, so walking or running is out for exercise; I ride my bike instead. I take my vitamins daily. Any encouragement you can offer would be greatly appreciated. What is wrong with my body???

Hiatal hernia 4 years post op -help
backtofitme replied to sweetmomma2005's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not sure if you're still looking for info as I see you posted about this in March. I can relate to your situation. I had the sleeve almost two years ago. I have PCOS, which didn't present symptoms until after a pregnancy. I was very fit prior to the pregnancy. After pregnancy, I just couldn't lose the weight regardless of my clean meal plan and 5 day per week exercise routine. I actually just started gaining without changing anything! Doctors did blood work and other tests, said it was PCOS and my best hope for losing was wls. I had a consult, was recommended to go with the sleeve. July 15, 2015 I was sleeved. I quickly lost down to 195 but it stalled by month 4!! I was working out, eating correctly, nada! It was very depressing. In June of 2016 I started slowly gaining, again without having changed anything. By January 2017, I was up to 216. I went back to my surgeon who sent me for tests and to the medical weight loss doctor. Tests revealed that I had become Insulin Resistant AND I had developed a Hiatal Hernia. I followed a Keto diet from January-April. I lost 16 pounds the first two weeks putting me back to 200 BUT my weight would not budge. I also had severe reflux during this entire time. So, my surgeon suggested that we fix the hernia and revise to a bypass because that is the only way to resolve the gerd. He also stated that with the malabsorption and my endocrine issues, he hopes I will lose another 40-50 pounds. He had to do a peer to peer with my insurance but got it approved!! I had my revision surgery June 14th and am doing very well...it was easier and less painful than the sleeve!! I'm almost 2 weeks out and down 12 pounds. The weight loss may be slower this time but the scale is moving! I'm praying it continues to move because I can't imagine going through this entire process and not getting to a healthy weight. I wish I had gone with the bypass originally but there's no way we could have known I would be one of the few that the sleeve wouldn't be successful for. -
Went in for Bypass and ended up sleeved
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to kimba21539's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First my hubby had a Lap Band for 13 yrs. He had problems with not being able to eat or drink even wagter. So we went to a Bariatric Center of Excellance. He was going to have his Band removed and revise him to a RNY. When they got in the band had eroded into his liver and they couldn't finish the revision. He was deathly sick for 9 months with abcesses and had 5 differant bacterias. He can't remember 3 months. Fast forward to his DR that performed his removal dropped him!! Finally he had a ablation and a wound vac was put in. Last June we went to Mexico and he was supposed to have a RNY but...NOT!! His right side was totally scar tissue so he ended up with the Sleeve. It has taken him a year to finally figure out how and what to do. His mind tells him he can eat more than his body will allow. But he has lost 135#'s!! But he is still sad he didn't get the RNY. Things are ok now he still deals with mind hunger and I think he is figuring it out. May he continue to loose even more weight. Congratulations on your journey. I look forward to your future posts. -

James Marusek replied to PinkiePie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is common to feel apprehension or fear prior to any surgery. There are several different forms of surgery, so you may want to ask about each type. Also many of us have health issues. These can lead to defining the best type of surgery appropriate for our particular issues. I had GERD and RNY gastric bypass is better for this condition than the sleeve because the sleeve will only make this condition worse. You might want to discuss the rate of revision for each type of surgery. If I was going under the knife for this surgery, I did not want to repeat the experience. -
@Simply_Divine sorry you are going through acid reflux bummer, painful!! my dr told me prior to surgery that the reflux is a common side effect from the VSG he told me if i was prone to it before, the sleeve might make it worse. Or you could just start having the reflux for the 1st time in your life, Luckily it never bothered me over these past 5+ years. I've read that many Peeps that suffer like you do, might have a revision surgery to gastric bypass. That should get rid of the problem ! hope you can take care of this problem sooner than later good luck kathy

Revision Surgery Vent (I feel like a failure)
KendraMay posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Let me tell you my story real quick. I had Gastric Sleeve 8/14/2014. It was a real success SW: 387 and I lost 122 pounds in about 6 months. I kept it off for another six months, but after I lost my sister and got custody of her son, I became depressed. I am still mourning her loss, but I am better than I used to be due to medications, therapy, etc. I gained 60 pounds during 2016. I felt like a failure and I asked about revision surgery. Bluegrass Bariatrics told me there was a revision called Duodenal Switch and I am in the process of my 6 month diet so my insurance can approve surgery. For the people that had the revision surgery, what were you reasons? Anything similar to mine? What is like after surgery? Please give me all the info you want to share. I am scared to go under the knife again!- 2 replies

Albuquerque New Mexico and Presbyterian Insurance
NoMoBand replied to NoMoBand's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have COA commercial Presbyterian. Qualifying requirement are probably the same. Mine was a little different because I was a lapband to sleeve revision patient and took me weeks to get approved due to complications. I do know several co-workers that are going through the process now and it's taking about 3 months. You must meet the BMI criteria and co-morbidity requirements that Pres. requires. It is also to your advantage to get your primary doctor on board with you. Your primary submits records and input and can make a difference on approval. Beware, because some doctors are anti weight loss surgery. After the seminar you set up your first appointment with Dr. Rice and he explains the different surgery options and recommendations. Following that, should you wish to continue, you are assigned a Presbyterian case worker and the case worker sets you up for several nutritional classes. The case worker determines if you need additional testing, examples: sleep study, cardiologist release, primary doc input, etc. You may be required to get a EGD test, which IMO is a pain. The last test before submitting to insurance for approval is a psychiatric evaluation. If all goes well and are approved, you are scheduled for surgery. It seems like a long time, but, it goes pretty fast. Let us know how it goes. jake -

Hi, did you have a revision from vsg to mgb?. Could you tell me, where did you have this revision done?. How long ago. How was your weight lost after mgb, Awaiting your comments Regards Pedruel -
Hi, anyone here get a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass? I was sleeved in 2010 and lost 120lb. Now I'm up 35lb but would love to lose 50lb. My body's metabolism is the way it was before the sleeve (I still have restriction) but can't lose a substantial amount despite regular exercise and watching diet. The weight slowly crept up and Iv been playing with the same 10lbs for the past 2 years. I don't have gerd at all, I'm doing this for the added restriction and weight loss. I'm curious of others results with this. I'm skeptical bc online I'm seeing that with a second surgery an average weight loss is 25lbs. That's not very much for such a drastic and costly surgery. Would love to hear your results.

If you don't mind me asking why are you having a revision done? -
I am thinking of having a sleeve revised into a full bypass. Has anyone had that done? And what we're the results?
-
Are you having problems with your Sleeve? I personally haven't had any revision. But my hubby had his Lap Band for 13 years. It eroded into his liver and it was a mess. He was sick for 9 months with abcesses. Tried again 1 year ago but the scar tissue was amost solid on his right side so they did the Sleeve on him. I had my RNY almost 4 years ago. I have done well. I do hear of others having revisions so maybe someone will read your post. Good Luck

No, no problems w sleeve. Just no more weight loss. Tho doing same things. So surgeon says revising to a bypass will get the ball rolling again. Thank you for answering!

Yes went yesterday. He said not to worry that loss if much slower after a revision, to just give it time. And that I also have my height, weight and age and slow metabolism to take in consideration. He said to be patient and just keep doing what I'm doing. -
