    Protein

Premier Protein is way to sweet for me. I also use GENEPRO and there has been much debate about the 30 grams. I'm sure by now if it weren't correct there would be consumer complaints to verify and adjust the claim. Do the research as I've seen the 15 gram claim before and don't think that is accurate. I like it cause I can mix it in everything even if just add 1/2 scoop to things like yogurt that already has 15 grams of protein to get to 30. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Unpleasant topic...smelly poop

I also added yogurt, banana, eggs n chicken Soup to the list. Someone mentioned the Protein may be the source of the funk n bulk in the poop. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

Advancing your diet- on your own

Following plan too, day 7 today. I was excited tonight I had a tripe zero salted caramel oikos yogurt. I already bought smoked salmon and ricotta, and avocado for next Sunday or Monday. So looking forward to pureed food. I made a batch of bone broth yesterday, I didn't chew it or swallow it but did chew a piece of meat off the bone. Sent from my SM-G900H using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone eat cereal?

Ive put the special K Protein in my yogurt...otherwise cereal is a waste of time and precious tummy space. I will have a handful of regular cheerios if I need something sort of sweet. Other than that, stay away from the stuff. Too many carbs as everyone else has said. Linda www.fatontheinsideblog.wordpress.com
  6. You are doing great. I started pre op weight at 242 lbs. ... surgery day weight was 219 lbs.. weight now is 191 lbs. so , 6 weeks with 26 lb weightloss but 51 lbs overall. I eat tuna, grilled chicken breast, squash, carrots, Protein shakes, boiled eggs, refried Beans, Greek yogurt and sugar free Jello. Spoke with nutritionist today and she said I am making great food choices and to give my body time to adjust and then lose. My doc said I am tracking on point as well today. I only have 40 lbs to go until I'm at goal but he said I may lose more due to he doesn't expect me to stop until June that is when I may plateau. My BMI is 30 now and it was 39.4 to start. So I thank God for blessing me with this opportunity. I'm staying optimistic and gonna keep on my elliptical until I get to where I want to be.

The need to eat until stuffed

@@MrsSugarbabe I mix it with the cold cream I'm going to add, it will occasionally get a few small clumps but I stir it briskly into the hot coffee (straight out of my espresso maker) and they usually disappear. For lattes, I mix it with a bit of cold water, then add that to the latte after I mix the steamed milk and espresso. Once it's been mixed with a cool/cold liquid, it's never clumped when added to the hot liquid. Good luck, and I hear you about the coffee filling you up...I usually just have my protein coffee, then eat a bit of yogurt mid-morning since the coffee is all I need first thing.

    Protein

In my early days post-op, unflavored Protein powder was a lifesaver for me. I'm not sure where you are in your food stages, but you can mix it with broth, cream of chicken Soup, or yogurt, among other things.
  9. I'm 8 days out and have about 2 tablespoons yogurt for breakfast. 8 oz protein shakes twice a day and a mug of clear soup for dinner (usually finish about half). Also pudding or ice pops for snacks. I do feel hungry between meals. NUT says it's my brain but stomach is growling. Moving to soft foods in 2 days.
  10. I'm now on day 8 and agree with you about the early diet. However, I'm now on full liquid and have eaten great cream soups (had red lentil last night and it was amazing). I buy the organic ones in the pourable containers and they last a few days. Went to our beach club on Saturday and had vichyssoise which was delicious. I have also had thinned cream of wheat and thinned mashed potatoes which were great. I might have been a little early on that but it went down fine. I also have Greek yogurt with a touch of honey and cinnamon. I hate the protein shakes but Unjury is fine and Ensure high protein is good (vanilla is delicious) and my NUT said it was fine. Pudding too but getting burned out on that and jello. Moving to soft foods on Thursday and can't wait. Wishing you the best.
  11. I made a southwestern style chilli this weekend. I added a no-no (corn) and I used some sweet Bell peppers hoping it wouldn't be too spicy, which helped. I used black Beans, and for kicks I threw in some garbanzo beans, why not. It turned out really good. I used no recipe. Just threw in whatever lol :-) I added plain Greek yogurt and cheese to the top when I ate it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using the BariatricPal App

    Eating

At 4 weeks it was definitely still tough to get in 2 oz. of food, especially depending on what the food was. I had no problem with cottage cheese or greek yogurt at that point, but something like tuna salad was still hard to handle.
  13. It's almost ALL about self-control at where you and I are post-operatively! You're not meeting your protein goals, which is devastating to weight loss and feeling satiated by your food. I've not done the best job during the holidays, and I'm in a 3 week long stall right now. I know it's because I'm not keeping my carbs down and my protein up, and I'm not tracking every bite I put into my mouth. You should be losing more/more consistently than you are, maybe a re-start with Protein shakes and then advancing yourself through the different stages to reset your diet would be helpful. And you don't mention using any Protein powder...I still have to use it to get my protein grams high enough. On a normal day, I use GENEPRO unflavored in my morning coffee, so I start off with 20-30 grams of protein in a 12 ounce mug of coffee, with monkfruit sweetener and cream. Some days I have a container of plain yogurt with a little low-carb granola mid-morning, or cottage cheese with a tablespoon of pureed fruit stirred in. Lunch, I eat a cheese stick and a couple of slices of deli turkey. I have a handful of almonds or half an apple with Peanut Butter for an afternoon snack, then 3-4 ounces of my family's dinner protein and around 1/4 cup of vegetables. And I almost always have a sugar-free popsicle before dinner. That typical day gets me about 850 cals, 95 grams protein and 50 grams of carbs, with only 21 of them being sugars. I lose when I'm eating like that...80 lbs since the end of June. You've got the tool in place, you just need to commit to using it correctly, find ways to distract yourself when you're hungry (exercise, clean house, work, garden...whatever works) and get back on track. There's literally no reason for you to NOT be successful! Go get it, you CAN do this!! Does the genpro change the consistency of your coffee at all? I can not wait until I have a taste for coffee again lol but think that is a great idea to meet protein goals! Just can not do a consistency change as I won't enjoy it! Lol Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  14. I'm 3 months out and didn't do the sugar free thing, I don't mind stevia it doesn't bother my stomach so I like oikos triple zero yogurt and Water flavor drops at target that list stevia and fruit juice as ingredients. It's hard but I don't necessarily think sugar free is all that great, Whole Foods are much better you just have to watch portions and make sure you don't over do it and sabotage your weight loss. Healthy is where it's at, not chemicals. Oh and I forgot to add, hot chocolate really helped me with water I have 1 packet of Swiss miss milk chocolate and add a little fair life milk. Also Popsicles!!!! Omg I ate them all the time after surgery when I was in full liquids.
  15. I'm sure no expert at only 6 days out myself but my Dr said be careful not to gulp water, very small sips or you would get chest/ back pain. It could also be acid reflux. I heard this surgery is notorious for that. My Dr allows you during this phase to have tomato juice (heaven!!) or V8. Can you do yogurt? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Reset or not to reset

I have done it, and it does work pretty good. I am almost 3 years post sleeve too. HOWEVER... The amount of food that I'm used to eating NOW, versus the amount that you're allowed in the reset, is staggeringly different. I don't eat HUGE amounts of food, but a reset is essentially taking you back to immediately post op when you had a huge amount of inflammation that caused the best restriction! Back then i was eating 1/4 cup at a time and it took 3-4 hours before I ate again. Now I eat every few hours but i have been heavy on the carbs for the past 8-9 months. That said, another poster on here suggested to me that I go ultra clean, ultra low carb, high Protein for 5-7 days for the same 'reset' effect. I have done that too. Also, Dr. Alvarez from Endobariatric (NOT my doctor, but I watch his videos) has a youtube video that talks about a 'reset' far out and he says that there's just no way that 2-3 years post op we can get the same satisfaction from some yogurt or broth as we had immediately post op. And he is so right. Of the two, I absolutely prefer the latter plan. HANDS DOWN!!! Love the fact that i'm eating actual food, and i'm feeling really full when I eat it. I am actually on one of those paths right now, just trying to get my eating under control and detox from soda and carbs. I'm generally doing protein and veg, and trying to stay <50g carbs a day. After I get some control back I plan to go keto (probably in about 10-14 days from now). Good luck with whatever you decide, any path to cleaning up your diet is a good one!
  17. @ eclecticavatar...Thank you for the compliment. But I don't really feel I'm crushing it. I get discouraged because some are losing way faster than me but my inches are flying off. I just try to get in 60 G Protein daily n my Water as well as Greek yogurt, re fried Beans , asparagus, grilled chicken. I can't eat a lot because my sleeve is picky but I do my best . I am now down 26 lbs and it's almost 6 weeks. If I had not had the surgery, there's no way the weight would be gone. Celebrate other victories beside just the scale. If you saw me in person , I don't look 191 so I take pride in the inches that are falling off. So I don't get bummed anymore when I see some people who have lost 45 lbs or some huge number that had surgery around the same date as myself.... why, because I tell myself I look good and some people lose it and you can't see it but mine is super noticeable so I take pride in that and so should you. 15 lbs gone is great ... I should have taken measurements but I didn't but I do advise you to measure yourself so that you can track inches lost. I measure mine by my clothes that I was busting out of and they are now falling off and the waist is huge on me. So that's how I know. Stay strong . We are gonna rock this thing. Just takes a lil time.

    Transtioning to solids?

The baked Beans out of the can aren't too good for you but you can make your own and puree them, that is what I do. You can also make lentils in the same fashion. With the beans though, puree manually using a strainer so that you don't get any of the skin which in my head, can pose a potential problem. It makes a nice paste. You can also have yogurt, bananas (smashed), sweet potatoe, ricotta cheese and cottage cheese. I too experimented with lean chicken and turkey slices and it goes down well. LIke the other users have said, don't experiment with too much at one time.

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!

I think we the more we limit our food choices, the more successful we are. Yes, those foods have some carbs - just like many foods have natural sugars. That is a given. But personally, i would rather have real butter or full-fat yogurt or cheese or a (small) succulent steak - and I think that the reason I can is because I eliminated the (real) carbs and all added sugar. I'm not saying that it works for everyone, but it is working for me, so far. While I don't think that any food (except maybe for sugar, alas!) is inherently bad, there is a fear factor in reintroducing carbs that I would rather avoid. Since my capacity is limited, why not focus on food with real value?

    One Year Surgery Update

Hi everyone- thank you for all of your replies. I missed entering my starting weight. I'm 5'5 and I started at 267 and currently weigh 167. My goal weight is 160, so I have more to lose. I eat barley, potatoes, rice, and bread as carbs. I eat them last or with my bites of Protein with it. I eat about 5 to 6 times a day. I'm still at about 2-3 oz of food and I'm full. I never over eat. Once I begin to feel that my stomach is starting to feel the food is in there, I stop eating. I don't ever want my stomach to stretch. I've thrown up only once in a year and that was when my doctor gave the ok to eat regular food. But, that was my own learning curve. I used to be a huge milk drinker, and now I barely ever drink milk. I just don't like to be full. Do I cheat, well YES I do. I cheat with small things like chocolate and creamer in my coffee. I love Funyuns but the salt can be bad for me. I stick to a lot of sugar-free foods as best as I can. I do drink wine or Vodka drinks from time to time. I'm a light weight. I really watch my sugar and it's because sugar makes me feel icky! Icky in the sense that I don't feel my body needs it. My body tells me if it can accept what I put into it. If I drink, I don't eat any sugars through the day. Remember drinking is ALL wasted calories - so watch yourself. It's important to always go back to your basics because we don't want to go back to being unhealthy and I chose to do the sleeve for a reason. I'm healthier now but don't want to revert back to old habits. This is why our doctors tell us don't do it! No sugar and no carbs at all! You have to do what they say and for a year. Then it's up to you throughout the rest of your life on what you put into your mouth. I eat a lot of eggs for protein and my cholesterol is low so I'm good there. I eat cottage cheese and mostly always chicken. I also eat a lot of Pork. I'm Hawaiian so it's in my culture. I don't really eat fish but I will from time to time such as Talapia or Salmon. It's rare that I eat beef. It's so hard and heavy to digest. I eat cheese a lot but keep it very small in portion size. I've stayed away from the Zero Greek yogurt since October and it's because it triggers a memory for me of my gallbladder attack. That was the worst pain ever!! I had tons of gallstones in my gallbladder. One got stuck in the duct and I felt so much pain. Apparently, 30% of all of us will lose our gallbladder due to rapid weightloss. Some doctors take your gallbladder out at the same time so you don't go back in later. That was a crazy scary painful experience to go through. Ok, back to my foods... I drink Pure Protein Drinks that are canned. I also drink Isopure. Isopure comes in different flavors so if you are a juice drinker - get these drinks! It contains 40 grams of protein if you drink the whole thing. I put Chia seeds in my protein drinks. I also drink almond milk which has 10 grams of protein in a cup. I always eat my protein first and I honestly CRAVE protein if I don't have it. I drink Water but am bad staying hydrated. So, if I added drinking a ton of water I bet I would lose weight at an even higher rate. I hope I answered everyone's questions. Thank you for all the support and wish you all the best. The first two weeks after surgery suck but moving forward it gets better. You lose about 30-50 pounds within the first 2-3 weeks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Looking for Buddy/Mentor...please

@@pvechiola I get super sick when I eat more than 6 grams of sugar with my meal. Its a form of dumping syndrome...shakes, hot flashes, super tired. Stay clear. As far as shakes are concerned, you should use Premier Protein. You can find them at costco specifically. They are low in calories and sugar (super important) and have 30 grams of protein. Muscle milk is ok, but get the light. I eat a yogurt every single morning for Breakfast. The Oikos black is good because it is low in sugar and high in protein. Greek yogurt is better than regular. I really like Dannon Light & fit greek yogurt. It has 80 calories and 12 grams of protein. I add mandarin oranges to it for my fruit. I also get the no sugar added and packed in Water. I hope this helps!!
  24. I had my rny done in April 2016. Doing very well with weight loss. At the beginning of December, I started having pain in my right side. Did an ultrasound, gallstones discovered, had gallbladder removed on December 30, 2016. I have healed well from gallbladder surgery, but I'm still having a problem. When I eat actual solid food, I have pain and nausea. I eat a small amount. I chew well, but still pain. I can tolerate Soup, yogurt, and Protein shakes without any issue. I ate about one ounce of moist pork for dinner tonight, and stopped because of pain and nausea. Anyone have this happen after gallbladder removal? I follow up with my dr this week, and will definitely tell him. Just wondering if others have had this experience. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Having a TOUGH time getting in Protein

My surgeon's office has a nifty little store in the front with Protein shakes, bars, Soups, Snacks etc so you can try out different things to see what you like before you order a whole box of something. I saw these little packets of LiquaCel concentrated protein and grabbed a few. They are really tiny and come in flavors like watermelon, grape, orange, and mango. I add them to my Water or even to skim milk which takes like a creamsicle if you use the orange flavor. They have 16g protein in each pack and my friend told me she uses them to add in when she makes sugar free Jello as well. I recently saw them on the site that I buy my Multivitamins, so picked up a whole pack. I also did better with the sugar free carnation instant Breakfast (in the blue box) than I did with protein shakes. The protein shakes reminded me of a pepto bismol consistency. lol I'd mix a packet in my ninja with skim milk and 2 ice cubes and it was kind of like a thin chocolate shake with no aftertaste. I rely on unflavored protein too and just throw some in whatever Soup or yogurt I'm eating for a protein boost.
