I'm 14 days post surgery and I gained all the strength back in my abdomen. Now, I am getting a strange sensation UNDER my port area. When I go from a sitting to standing position, I feel like it is snagging on something. Hoping I didn't tear a stitch? I'm an orchestra director and do a lot of arm waving. Anyone else experience this?

Nobody knows about mine expect my parents. It's actually been surprisingly easy. People comment on my weight loss but no one really ever notices that I eat teeeny meals and even then usually have leftovers. I just tell everyone that I'm on a diet that involves very small portion control and eating more frequently throughout the day (which is mostly true). I don't think at the time I would have been comfortable letting people know. I was very ashamed of my weight and ashamed of seeking medical intervention. Almost four months out though, I can honestly say it's one of the best decisions I've made for myself, and I don't beat myself up for having it done. Maybe someday I will tell people but for now, it's something I did for myself to make a better me, and that's good enough. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I can't believe it has been 3 months already! In the beginning I thought I would never get past what I was feeling the first two weeks - UGH! But lo and behold, here I am three months later and have lost so much weight! I'll try to get some pics posted later so you can see the difference between *before* and *3 months*! A huge thank you to everyone here on the board who has been such a tremendous help throughout this journey!

4 Weeks Out And Im Up 2Lbs. Wth?
circa replied to Kareforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nothing. Your weight is going to fluctuate while your body gets used to the changes. DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF EVERY DAY! :smile1: I know its hard not to, but you need to give your body a chance to regulate to the changes. Every single person is different. Get your Water in - your body will retain everything it can if you don't give it enough water. -
I have to say I disagree with docs who won't do a fill simply because the patient is loosing weight. If you stick to the plan, despite being hungry, you will loose weight. I agree with what was said above about being satisfied with a cup of food for 4 hours or so. If this is not the case for you, talk to your doc. about a fill.

Congratulations! This is great progress. I can't wait till I can get back into real weights and strength training. I know it's going to make a big difference in how my clothes fit.

Considering having this surgery and have questions.

Thank you all for your comments. In my case with the copd, is I have had three exacerbations in 1.5 years, and am on Oxygen 24/7 and all the drugs for copd. The first exacerbation really changed my life and I have never fully recovered as far as stamina. My PFC showed 65%. I am very glad to hear that some are losing weight without exercise. Very encouraging. Thank you all so much. -
Considering having this surgery and have questions.
joatsaint replied to moneybags396's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was diagnosed with COPD and sleep Apnea, but I was worried about not getting approved due to COPD. I only told my doc about the apnea, since I knew it was a comorbidity that would qualify me for the surgery. I was at the point in my life where things were only getting worse and I didn't care if I didn't make it through surgery. From my own experience at 8 weeks post-op, exercise does not play a big role in my weight loss. The dramatic reduction in my calories does. It was at least 4 weeks post-op before I had enough energy to get up and moving, and that was less than a mile a day of walking (and that includes walking at work). I'm just getting to the point where I can average 3 miles a day 5 days a week. I'm aiming for 5 miles 5 days a week. My weight loss has remained consistent the entire 8 weeks - about 3 lbs down per week. I think the main advantage to the increased walking is the steady consistent weight loss. I haven't had any of the infamous weight loss stalls at this point. -
Ok my due date had been revised. Which is no surprise because ALL my children measured small in the beginning. So I'm due March 10th instead of February 28th. But it will be an automatic c section because both previous babies were, that means I shave one week off of the due date. My weight gain has been 0 in 7 weeks since conception. My restriction is that of it right after surgery. I don't want to eat but force feed myself. Popsicles have been my best friends. I'm sick from morning to night (which gives me comfort knowing I have symptoms lol), breasts are slowly getting sensitive, I have food aberrations to everything but then have cravings also but I don't know what I am craving. sleep comes and goes. I take my Vitamins and Calcium. I'm on Zofran for morning sickness. I'm hoping to avoid gestational diabetes. Doctor thinks its a good possibility I can avoid it He did list me as high risk pregnancy due to my Bariatric surgery, but I'm praying to the good Lord that's just a label and I have a healthy pregnancy. So my goal is to update weight gain/losses and any issues I might come upon that way all these questions most of us have can start being answered. I how that I can help others with this. Importantly we as sleevers need to remember that we will always have this tool its about choices, control, and loving ourselves enough to do the right things Sent from my EVO using VST

You are doing awesome!! You are almost halfway at just 3 months out!!! I will be 3 months a week from today! I can't wait to get halfway to my goal weight! I will look forward to seeing your before and now pictures!!! -
Agree. In the beginning steady state cardio with some HIIT (1-2 x a week) is a great tool to reduce excess weight. It is good to transition into a workout more based primarily on strength training with some HIIT cardio to tone, sculpt or otherwise change the body composition. 50 minutes of cardio x times a week is not too long if you are in the phase of eliminating a large amount of body fat. It is too long if you have reached goal or are close to goal and are trying to body sculpt. However, continue to do some steady state cardio as part of warmup and HIIT 1-2x a week. For example, I jog a mile as part of my warm up daily. I do weight training 3x a week and cross fit 2 x a week (HIIT). I rest on the weekend, but may still "exercise" in a casual way. It is important to rest in order for your muscles to repair and respond with better toning or sculpting. Sometimes I get disappointed when I do not see any growth during the week, but then see the muscles grow by Sunday. It is still a learning process for me.

So I used to wear 6" heels everyday! I gained too much weight and can't wear them right now. Plus my show size went up a size! Shame because my feet wee already big! ???? I bought these shoes because I love all things America and 4th of July is probably my favorite holiday. I want to be able to wear them next year when my family has their annual block party and our band plays!! (I sing) Sooooo excited at just the thought!!!

I was 2 weeks from being sleeved in August 2012 when I found out I had blood clots in my leg & both lungs. I was hospitalized and had to cancel my surgery until everything was sorted out with my health. The doctors believe I had the clots because of a combo of foot surgery that left me sedentary for 12 weeks and hormonal birth control. They didn't find any blood disorders and I'm no longer on blood thinners. I feel like nearly 3 years later I'm ready to try again for the surgery. I've developed a healthier lifestyle, I exercise and eat much better but the weight doesn't come off easily (I also have PCOS, sleep Apnea and Fibromyalgia). The problem is that I am terrified now that something awful will happen to me! The doctors all told me if I'd even lived long enough to have my surgery I would be dead, and I can't get that out of my head. I feel like I need to do this...but I don't know if it's a smart choice for me to opt for surgery when blood clots are a concern there. Have any of you had a history like this and can give me some words of wisdom or advice?

Once you make the sincere decision to lose weight and get healthy....everything will fall in line. Using myfitnesspal.com is a cheap and easy way to track your calories, weight and exercise. I stress that it's free....and super easy to use. Nothing will motivate you like success will. That being said...go ahead and lose weight now. There are simple diets to follow and you will be acclimating yourself to the way of eating you'll be doing for the rest of your life when you are post-op. The simple diet consists of chicken, fish, meats, Greek yogurts, fresh vegetables, some whole grains and some cheeses and maybe nuts on occasion. Measure your food so you can input accurate amounts into the myfitnesspal tracker. Keeping the carb count down and eating at a calorie deficit (versus your bmr ) will absolutely lead to weight loss. Throw in some frequent walking and you are going to add to effect. Getting your mind wrapped around the needed changes and getting used to following a plan now will really help you later on. You are going to do great.

Making use of the now
Inner Surfer Girl replied to 2goldengirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
These are so great goals. I always had a difficult time tracking food. Before surgery I was following weight watchers online so it helped me to develop a good habit of tracking everything I put in my mouth. Post-op, I use MyFitnessPal. As to weighing myself, I choose to weigh no more than once a week or less often. Early after surgery I only weighed at my doctors appointment. If your mood, emotions, and self-esteem are dictated by the numbers in the scale, you need to think about how useful daily weighing really is for you. My pre-op goals were: To ween myself off of caffeine and carbonation. To increase my Water consumption to at least 64 oz of water. And To exercise at least 60 minutes a day. Any time is a great time to learn about yourself and your relationship with food. Reading, journaling, therapy, and support groups (like a bariatric support group, group therapy, and/or a twelve step group like OA) are all great resources for self-examination and growth. This site is also an invaluable resource. Thank you for sharing your intentions. Being honest with yourself and with other's is a big step helping you to be successful. -
Which fat goes first?
DownInSocal replied to drmedhat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first thing I and everyone else noticed was my butt went goodbye. I have had mixed feelings about this. It is not the flat weird shaped butt now. It looks like it did in my early twenties so I should be happy but I kinda wanted to keep my super curves just have a flat stomach. It is just frusterating to be able to fit in a 16 pant except for my stomach. The butt in a 16 pant is loose but the tummy is a little too tight. Ugh. It will balance out I am sure. I also lost weight in my limbs right away, my upper arms, hands, face, and neck. My girls are a little smaller but my cup size is the same. The whole thing is kind of strange when I think about it but I am happy with the way I look. I like to be able to sit on the couch and put one leg up with my foot flat if that makes sense. I can bend over and tie my shoes without having to hold my breath. I can see my hoo hoo! -
Hi Snowy Owl - I answered your email, but didn't include any fill info in that. Dr. Lopez is of the school that the patient knows when they need a fill. The criteria for a fill with him is: 1. You've stopped losing weight. 2. You're hungry between meals. 3. You no longer feel full on a smaller amount of food. Two of those three things have to be true. Most of Dr. Lopez's patients choose to have their fills done under flouroscope - this eliminates a lot of the "guess work" that doing blind fills creates. The Dr. can see how fast the barium flows out of the pouch, so has a pretty good idea of how tight you are before you leave the office. There is always the possibility of post-fill swelling, so he puts you on liquids for a certain amount of time - it varies by how tight he feels you are after the fill. I've had four fills - the last one was in October, and that still seems to be the right amount. I still can't chug ice Water like I like to, so I definitely don't want to be any tighter. Good luck!

Started my journey on July 2012. Starting weight was 310 and now 209lbs. 100lbs gone 30 more then I will start my second stage (bulking) to get rid of the excess skin and achieve the body I always dreamed about. I no longer wear 5x shirt or 47 pants, I don't look like a hip hop rapper with shirts hanging to my knees. I wear xl shirts and pants that i borrowed from my brother I usually run away when a picture is taken, but after losing weight I got more self confidence here is a picture my friend somehow was able to take it Last year, I loved Burger king Today And im also down 4 lbs this week reaching 205lbs XD

I am almost 37 and my belly didn't fair well after losing all the weight, but I had stretch marks from having babies. If you don't have any stretch marks then your skin should bounce back after time. I am having a tummy tuck in three weeks to finish out my journey....I will still have some stretch marks left over because I have them above my belly button, but no matter what my loose belly still looks better then my fat belly ever did. Lol Good luck!

Week 3 a bust? What the heck is going on?
pinkie1 replied to nuzzlebear40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't lose anything for two weeks post up, I was doing everything right and could not figure it out. Then I had a thought when I first got home I was on a clear broth diet and I lost weight the day I went on shakes and pureed diet I stalled. so I thought I will do the broth thing and you know what, in 5 days I lost 11 pounds. As I am a diabetic, all carbs and little sugar I was putting in my mouth with the shakes was putting my weight loss in jeopardy. so I am sticking to broth and seafood high in Protein and I feel great. -
You are a lot like me. But apart of the reason we gain weight is due to NOT EATING. You will hear it sd over and over this WLS not brain surgey. Eating is very important

Carbs, Carbs, Carbs!
doxieville replied to buforu21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I still have mixed feelings and am figuring out how i want to eat. I like the low carb- atkins diet plan. Breads never excite me. But fats do! Butters, creams, cheeses, all that yummy stuff is zero or low carbs. And my weight loss is in a stall right now. Major stall. I had let more carbs creep in and maybe that's what is slowing down my weight loss. But regardless, I agree that once we hit maintaince we dont have to deprive ourselves. But with 100 pounds to lose, yeah, i do still think i need to 'diet'. I sure could be wrong though!!! -

Confused/advice please

Did you have foods with a lot of sodium? Our weight can flucuate greatly day to day. I suggest you stay off the scale on a daily bases. Don't worry, if you're doing everything right, it will all work out. Congratulations on your weight loss so far. -
Will Medicare Pay for a Breast Reduction?
educationrulz replied to FreeToBeMe's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I don't think any plastic surgeon worth their salt would do a reduction on someone in the middle of drastic weight loss from surgery. Why risk needing to go back and have something else done after you finish losing? My unprofessional opinion is that even if your breasts don't lose an inch, the rest of your body will be totally different proportionally after you reach goal and the placement of the breasts is dependent on your body. Believe when I say I know the pain you're going through. I made the decision to have a breast reduction back in 2004 when my neck and shoulders were hurting so bad (for the millionth time) that I couldn't turn my head or hold a phone to my ear. I scheduled a consult that day and never looked back. Now, I'm waiting to see how the girls are going to hold up post WLS. So far, they seem to be holding up well. I suspect this is because I shelled out the extra bucks to add a lift to my reduction procedure. But, time will tell. If they look REALLY bad after I reach goal, I would consider going back for another lift or implants. Crazy...I know. Despite how great it is to finally be losing weight for good, I still say the breast reduction was the best gift I ever gave myself. As for Medicaid, I think I've heard that they cover reductions. You could probably find this out pretty easily with a basic web search or call to a patient rep. Hopefully you'll start getting some relief as your weight loss progress.
