    Confused...Excited...Lost.......

Trish, I know! I have been doing the pre op diet my doc ordered for me and I have actually gotten used to eating on the atkins induction. LOL everytime I feel like complaining I remember that in 10 days I will be on liquids. I am trying to make all of the nessecary preparations and think ahead to somethings I need to get out of the way that I wont be able to do for 4-6 weeks. Like stretching my canvases. Keep me updated on a specific date and I will write it on my calendar.

    5 days post op

I was the same way initially. I had my surgery on 07/01 and I cried the first week. I was hungry, shaky, weak and generally did not feel like myself. I can say this I feel great now and wouldn't give it back for anything! Hang in there, it gets better once you start encorporating more substantial food. The clear liquid phase is rough. I know you will feel better in a week or so though. It took me a good 2.5 weeks before I felt even remotely good.
  3. Honestly, I'm not that well versed on Skype, but I found this online to help shed some light on the topic, it looks like you can get at least 10 people on at the same time http://blogs.skype.com/en/2010/09/10_way_video_calling.html. I do know Skype is free, but I've only used it once with my mom and that was fun (she is not tech savvy at all )

    Help Please! Low Iron.

I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow, but they canceled it Thursday. I was giving no information like when to retest or reschedule surgery. I got my approval on 9/10
  5. Hi I have surgery on Wednesday- 2/19/2014- I started this process by seeing a bariatric physician at the hospital where I work- It has taken almost two months to get the surgery. Hooray for us both!!!
  6. I am 10 weeks out and have experienced dumping syndrome a couple times but only because I knew I ate too fast! Feels kind of like a stuck feeling and can't eat anymore. A lot of thick slimes and then I try to throw up and it comes right out (liquid). Then I feel great! But I never have experienced any pain or nausea since my surgery other than that.

    Surgical Glue

Hi! I am 6 days post op and my glue is peeling like crazy as well! I see my Dr. Tuesday and planned to address it then. I have been trying to resist the urge to peel away...but... . I would think at 10 days out you should be good but I would definitely check with your Dr's office to be certain. Good luck to you!
  8. ^ Slow and Steady wins the race. Well, 2 days to 10 weeks now and I've not lost much more honestly. But...the inches! Goodness the inches. I'm down from a super tight uncomfortable size 18 jean (at the waist) to a 12 perfect fit. Haven't been this size since highschool! I'm actually smaller than highschool to be honest. I barely have anymore stomach left. It's just my lower pouch...but I've had two kids...and my youngest just turned a year on the 25th...so yeah. That might never be gone for all I know...but come on now...size 18 to size 12...if that's not hope...what is? I'm also wearing medium size shirts now. I was a L/XL. Usually XL. I could sort of get away with a large if I wore my steel lined corset underneath. I've tossed that for 2 months now lol. My face is super slim, and contoured now. I'm loving this. Hoping this keeps up!
  9. Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing great post op. I am 6 weeks post op and doing well so far. Except I am really bad in having my protein shakes. I'm supposed to have 1 scoop everyday but I probably have it just thrice a week???? I've lost a total of 24 lbs. wondering if that's ok and will the amount of protein I take it, affect my weight loss? I'm a vegetarian and have beans, lentils etc but there's only this much I can have of it. Should I be losing more? I haven't lost any weight since 10 days???? Suggestions welcome

    Things you wish you'd known.

I wish I had not been so scared to take control of my life about 10 years earlier. I truly believe that had I RNY about ten years before I may not have done so much damage to my joints. Waiting really is my only regret. I had expected recovery to be so much worse than it really was, I did not expect to hate fast food and junk food so much. I did not expect that I would now crave quality Proteins, veggies and fruits. This is a great problem to have! I do wish I had known that I was going to want to complete my weight loss journey by having plastics. I thought all this lose skin would not bother me so much but it does both from a cosmetic point of view as well as a medical point of view. Had I known I would feel this way, I would have saved for years to ensure I had enough money saved up to complete plastics. It just means it will likely take me longer to get there but I now know I won't stop until I look as good on the outside as I feel on the inside. I now say this: Having a lot of loose skin is better than having all that fat, having the scars from plastics is better than having all that loose skin. Having just had my first plastics last week (brachioplasty), I am completely excited for my future. And that makes me excited for anyone that is going to do it as well. You simply don't know until you experience walking up your first set of stairs 150lbs lighter. I also wish I had known how supportive my family would be! I know mine has been through all of it with me and it is not easy for them seeing you go through a surgery like this. When I made the decision to change my life, I did not know how much it would impact their lives. But it does...... All of the pain from RNY and plastics is worth the end result!
  11. I am new here. I was banded 1 week ago on 7-18-07 and have had severe left shoulder pain ever since. I will wake up and there is no pain and 2 hours later it starts and by 3-4pm I'm at a 8-9 out of 10 on a pain scale. All I can do is drink this Lortab and it doesn't really help the pain. No one ever mentioned this to me as a possible side effect. What is causing this? Also I've had esophageal pain and had an upper GI test yesterday. The X-ray MD said it appears that the band is too high and that there is NO pouch. She did not say if it was on my esophagous or not. My surgeon's office has not called me with the results yet and I have called and left messages. I'm so frustrated. Any advice?:help: Thanks, rxangel

    I'm back from my pre-op

I started my pre-op diet today. It's for 2 weeks. I have 3 protein shakes a day, 1 fruit and and 1 salad. I also can have 1/4 cup of walnuts or almonds instead of flaxseed oil. You know I chose the nuts. I was so concerned about losing weight before my pe-op visit to the doctor that I was doing 2 shakes and one meal a day. I lost 19 lbs. and he was pleased. So far today is fine and I haven't been hungry. I don't know how the weekend will be. We have the grandkids on the weekend and usually take them out to eat. If we do I'll eat my daily salad then I guess...Carole

    Questions - Sleeve 2/10/13

everything I have read and heard (and experienced through other people) about the band has not been favorable. I did my research and the sleeve was the best option for me. Even at one of the classes I went to, the instructor had RnY done(10 years ago) and said, if she could do it all over again, she would choose the sleeve; also another one said that if you have 100 pounds or more to lose the band is not for you... I didn't like the idea of it anyway... I've had minimal problems with the sleeve, loving who I am these days!

    Questions - Sleeve 2/10/13

Hubby and I were sleeved Nov/Dec. 2013. Very minor pain (1 dose pain med at home after sleeving, no acid reflux, no heartburn, no spasms, no hunger pangs. Within a few days hardly felt as if we had surgery. We take Omeprazole only I think to prevent an ulcer. Biggest problem? Little burps that tell you when to stop eating LOL! Best wishes. We bypassed all WLS for 10 years til we could have the sleeve. The band stories really scare me. I know there are thousands of success stories, but even so many revisions..... Just so happy with the sleeve. Our only regret is that we did not have it before our health worsened.

    Stomach virus and vomiting

I get migraines and had a bad one, with a lot of vomiting (actually severe dry heaves but my body thought it was vomiting), 10 days after I was banded. I called my surgeon because I was afraid I would bust the stitches or cause a slip and he wasn't worried. He called in a script for some anti-nausea meds and all was well. I'll definitely keep those meds around, though, for next time. It was not a pleasant experience even if it didn't damage my band :smile2:
  16. So, DOS was 10/17 and I'm down 17lbs. Decided to cut 11" off my hair, go a little darker, and start my new life with a new look! My clothes fit a little bit looser and I didn't see much of a change until this... Yay me!!!

    Jump on the Goal Train

Okay, I'm in. You heard it here...... -I want to start a WALKING program on Labor Day. 30 minutes a day to start. -I want to go back to work on Sept 10 (exactly one month from surgery date) weighing UNDER 200. It can be 199.999999. But, under 200. -I want to buy a really beautiful, luxurious and elegantly sexy negligee for our trip to Napa in May (to Celebrate my DH's and several of our friends 50th birthdays) That's it for now.

    Jump on the Goal Train

I'm right there with ya. I started out at a size 24 this time, and now my size 20 stuff is comfy. I only have 1-2 size 18 pieces anywhere so it will soon be time to hit the stores. (or at least the second hand shops! I don't want to spend tons of money on clothes that I am going to shrink out of!) Last night, I tried on a jacket that was a 1X (rather than the 2x that I have worn for 10 years) and it fit! woohoo! frog

    Jump on the Goal Train

Hi everyone, I have played with the same 4 lbs. for 3 weeks now. I have had enough! If I even slip a bit I don't lose a thing. In fact, the scale swings the wrong way. I have been reading all your posts and everyone is doing great. I need your motivation, ideas and support. I have absolutely no restriction at all. I get my first fill on 11/29. I would like to be down 10 lbs by then. I bought the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds DVD and did the 3 mile tonight. I plan to do the 1 or 2 mile every morning. It has to help. I need to really focus on this and get the job done. Wish me luck!! I can do this!!:whoo:

    Jump on the Goal Train

I'd like to be 250 by my vacation to Disney on 10/21/07. That's 24lbs - I think it might be a little unrealistic BUT ... it's going to be a hot and activity filled vacation with A LOT of walking. I want to be able to keep up and enjoy it as much as possible. Disney is suppose to be pretty "fat friendly" but I'd still like to go on some rides with my nephew and not have to worry as much about not fitting in them - lol! I was walking my dog for 45 minutes a day, 5-6 days per week for about 3 weeks before surgery. I'd like to get back to that and even exceed it, in the next 2 weeks. I haven't set any other real goals yet. I think the holidays, especially since I most likely still won't have good restriction by then, are going to be a challenge. I don't want to beat myself up if I have a hard time.

    Hi! I'm Karen from Oregon

Hi Karen, I had my surgery 10/12 & was home the next afternoon. Dr Halpin was my surgeon at Legacy Weight Mgmt Institute, Ste 520 right next door to Dr Patterson. I am feeling good - lucky not to have nausea, vomiting, or much pain. Looking forward to weeks 3 & 4 to start adding food back. Let me know how things are going for you. Jan
  22. I had band and hernia repair on 5/31 and the chest pain finally got better about 5 days ago. It's more occasional now but was constant for a good 10 days after surgery. Hang in there.

Help! In Need Of Recipes/food Ideas!

Budget conscious? Find 2 or 3 recipes that use similar ingredients. Pick a day, shop and cook all 3 recipes, freeze in portions. I use glass containers so I can put straight into microwave, but use freezer ziploc if u have to. Do this every week and you will build up a variety of healthy meals. Emily bites has heaps of cupcake foods, meaning foods you prepare in a cupcake pan do they are already portioned. The world according to eggface has lots of wls friendly stuff. Tonight I used pumpkin, spinach, ricotta, passata and leftover meatballs to make a baked ricotta dish. Will feed me at least 10 times and cost next to nothing. Cooking in bulk is the best thing to do when you are money and or time poor! Lol

    Wrinkles?!?!?! Help!

I had to google a shar-pei and I laughed out loud.. Now I am ascared!! So I am only 23 but am terrified of wrinkles and as soon as I found out that you begin losing collagen in your skin at 19-20 from there on out I started using a line of products by Kate Somerville. I love them as I have very sensitive skin and use her sensitive products.
