    January 2020 Surgery Folks

Welcome! I had surgery 1/27 and had the same stall. And the same one pound gain! It will go away, I promise! Pick one day a week and weigh in instead of daily for sure! It's nothing you're doing wrong. It's your body adjusting! One pound is a good poop! Lol As far as protein, I have the worst time with protein drinks as well so have taken to putting Genepro in a morning green smoothie. Have you tried those? Or Genepro? It's flavorless and 30g of protein for 56 Cal scoop. I also put it in my oatmeal! I definitely eat most of my protein. My meals are pretty similar there days: meat and cheese, refried beans and cheese, chicken thighs, lots of seafood Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  2. Which do you prefer post-surgery? I'm still pre surgery going in on May 10. I've been test driving some different Protein powders and while I don't want to overly stock up in case my tastes change I know I need to have something on hand. I tried unjury today in some chicken broth and found it to be totally fine. It made the broth a little creamy tasting which took some getting used to but I definitely didn't find it to be offensive. However, there was a lot of powder to stir into my two cups of broth (I was using a pre measured packet). The GENEPRO is appealing because of the smaller quantity and the high amount of protein. If you've tried both can you tell me how they compare in terms of taste? I have a small supply of flavored Protein drinks that I've sampled and liked. I'm looking for suggestions on unflavored to mix with broth or juice. Thanks.

    Genepro

Im almost certain the reason they're allowed to label it 30g of protein is because it has two asterisks next to it, stating **equivalencies based on the clinical trial (which i linked above). Even GENEPRO doesnt claim it has 30g of protein, because it absolutely doesnt. It literally states equivalency based upon THEIR clinical trial (that they paid for). Im surprised more nutrition companies haven't employed this tactic Its really not a huge deal though, and likely would make little to no difference unless youre getting the majority/almost all of your protein from Genepro. But if youre taking 1 serving of the stuff a day, its a moot point imo

    Breakfast

I use Genepro protein powder. 1 scoop is 30 Gm of protein. It can be mixed in hot or cold so every morning I have a decaf coffee and stir in half a scoop of the Genepro, 15 Gm of protein with just my coffee! Sometimes I eat a protein bar, Life Choice from walmart, 170 cal, 18 Gm protein. This works great when I'm on the run. 33 Gm of protein total with my coffee! Other times I have a Dannon Greek yogurt and mix in half a scoop of the Genepro for 27 Gm of protein for a total (with coffee) 42 Gm of protein!! Genepro has no flavor and mixes in great with hot or cold.

    Protein help

Also I got the unjury starter pack to try some flavors. It is a personal think I only like their chicken and unflavored and I am not even trying strawberry because that is not my thing. I have 4 individual packs of 3 flavors. If anyone interested DM me and I can drop in envelope to you! Ps: I tried GENEPRO and their company site and story are just too bizarre but to each their own!

    African American vsgers!

I drink Premier Protein shakes 11 oz (30 gram) protein, I also use unjury unflavored protein powder to make green smoothies. Genepro protein powder is one I like but my NUT is skeptical about its benefits.

    genepro vs isopure

Ok so there are those who swear by GENEPRO and those who like others. The key to any is that you don't go over 140 degrees with Water mixing. I have mixed Isopure with cold water and hot broth. I love it it is tasteless I find it odorless it is inexpensive in comparison to some other brands. You can get it at Vitamin shoppe GNC or Amazon For me, genepro seems like a shady company that also hawks "natural steroids" with a lot of scam appearing science. And I cannot get over the 30g of Protein in 15 g serving. I am all about reasonable space time continuum. unjury starter kit is nice because you get their chicken broth (yum!) a thermometer and shaker bottle Best of luck!

    ❤ JANUARY 2019 CHALLENGE ❤

This is probably going to be it for me today unless I have a protein drink later. Got some stomach flu situation happening... Coffee, fairlife milk and genepro with sugar free toriani: brown sugar cinnamon flavor Stir fry with chicken, veggies, garlic, ginger, peanut sauce
  9. @@purrfctangel Also look at GENEPRO, it has 30 grams per VERY small scoop (a little bigger than a tablespoon, I think), and is unflavored. There seems to be little info out there on it, but if it indeed is what they say it is, we may have found gold! I have been using it a while now, and I intend to ask my dietician on the 16th what her opinion is of it. Found it on Amazon.com. It mixes really well, compared to the other whey powders I've used. But I still use the other powder just in case the Genepro isn't what it claims to be and do. Have a good evening....

    Food ideas

Unjury has a chicken soup protein. It helped me as it was a clear liquid, has 23 g protein and preop it satisfied my hunger bc it's warm. I also like Genepro unflavored protein powder to mix in Gatorade, juice or flavored water.
  11. I'm so happy for you!!! You are doing GREAT!!! I am using Genepro unflavored protein, 1 small scoop has 30 grams of protein and you can put it in anything including coffee and soups. I mix it in pudding as well.

    Clear fluid ideas?

I couldn't do artificial sweeteners or plain water, so I drank decaf herbal teas, Vitamin water, lifewater, pedialyte, dilute 100% fruit juice, dilute Powerade, chicken broth, beef broth, Swansons tortilla soup base, and strained wonton and hot and sour soups. Added Un jury unflavored powder to the soups and it wasn't too bad. Tried isopure but it made me gag. I've heard genepro mixes well with everything and has no taste, but I've never tried it.

    Solids soon... help!

Same here, the only one I can tolerate is genepro, and even that is beginning to make me gag. That's why I can't wait to be able to try some protein bars.

    Protein Coffee?

I think I've posted about this topic a couple of times hahaha I get premier Protein shakes and mix them into my coffee I've also started mixing unflavored protein into my coffee along with half a shake 5.5 oz Premier Protein + 1 tbsp GENEPRO protein = 45g protein! I mix the two Proteins with some milk or creamer and and then add my coffee while stirring so the hot coffee doesn't clump up the protein there will be people here that will tell you that genepro protein isn't real protein, but I talked to my doctor and they said that it's fine. I'm a scientist myself, and I went on their website, and read some literature, and their protein extraction process makes sense to me. The genepro dissolves very easily, so I like it! I also try to eat around 20-30g more protein than my minimum so that even if I misjudge the amount of protein in something I eat or drink, I'll still be getting what I need. another option is unjury protein which people seem to like.
  20. I use it, haven't noticed a smell and definitely hasn't changed the taste of any of my food. I was only getting 30 grams of Protein a day until i started using the GENEPRO. Now I meet my 90gram goal with no problem. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

    Love this Protein!

I really wish I had gotten this before I had the surgery because then I wouldn't have had minimal Protein intake and the gagging of the random milk based shake. MuscleGen GENEPRO Molecular Triprotein Peptide. It is odorless and tasteless although if you dip your finger in and taste it alone...there is some flavor but not unlikable. It mixes better than anything I have ever tried and it has 30G of protein in one small scoop!! I put a half scoop in my morning oatmeal, add another half at lunch into Soup or my cottage cheese, and another scoop between Snacks and dinner and there is my first 60 grams. I am even sneaking it into my kids foods, shhhh! Hockey Momma.

    Love this Protein!

I love Genepro too. I asked my NUT and she approved. Not sure why she didn't mention it in all the preop meetings I had with her. It truly is the best. No taste and 30 grams of protein in a tablespoon instead of a huge scoop. Can't tell its in whatever it is you decide to put it in and it's so fine it mixes so well.
  23. I am going on a business trip to London for 8 weeks and leave tonight. I'm 10 weeks post-op. I plan to bring my GENEPRO with me but assume I can get things like Greek yogurt as easily as here? I will be in an apartment with a full kitchen so am confident I will stay on track but am looking for some reassurance that my whole world won't be turned upside down by not being able to find the staples I have relied on so far. Thanks in advance! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Struggling with whey....

I just purchased the GENEPRO Medical Grade Unflavored 30g Protein Powder - 2nd Generation! - 30 Servings from the Bariatric Store. They say you can mix it in anything. I am hoping that is the case because I can stand the taste of Whey neither. Have you tried Premier Protein? Most people tend to be able to drink them without a problem and they come in multiple flavors.
