  1. Hi everyone reading. I'm 5'8 and 318 lbs. I've been looking into surgery for weight loss since 2013. I never pursued it at the time because my hubby and I had our 3rd and last daughter. I'm the highest weight I've ever been. My spine surgeon referred me to a bariatric surgeon due to osteoarthritis in my lower back and sacroiliac joint deterioration mostly due to being overweight since I started (TMI) my monthly at age 12. Any info on the process? I really want the gastric bypass done. I go to my first appointment with the surgeon May 18th...my birthday lol, I'll be 30.Thanks for any advice!
  2. So from day 1 I took benefiber 3 times per day and the first few day I took miralax and it just wasn't working. I was going a little, but it wasn't regular or normal. My doc said not to do miralax bc it's just not natural compared to fiber. Well the benefiber did NOTHING. last Thursday, just at the 2 week mark, I bought sugar free metimucil powder. And FINALLY, I'm normal. Every day, once or twice a day since Saturday sorry tmi but I know it's a common problem. i had VSG, so I can't do 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of Water bc you have to drink it fast- or it will thicken too much to drink. So I do 1 teaspoon in 4 oz of water. You still have to drink it quick (5-8 minutes), and then I have some clear fluids after. There are a few calories and carbs, but it is SO WORTH IT! If you are suffering, try it. I don't love drinking it, but it's only 4 oz so I just do it knowing the results!
  3. I am glad you are feeling better and that the Pea protein is working for you. As far as having the runs in the hospital.. girl let me tell you. The morning of my last day I was able to relieve gas for the first time since surgery and I was happy because I thought it would let me get rid of the gas pain... and it did. But boy I was NOT prepared for what was to come. Sorry for the TMI but the first time I was going to make a bowel movement I was embarrassed because I didn't want these nurses that I had gotten to know to walk into the bathroom and see it (they put measured bowls in the toilet) and it was in thy moment that I had to decided whether I was gonna sh*t my pants or in the bowl. I physically had to get over that worry because the rest of my last day was ALL that. I couldn't wait to be discharged so I could do it in my own home LOL! My point is, is that you will be fine! Just keep listening to your body [emoji23][emoji1]
  4. I was sleeved on December 2nd. I remember waking up when my coworkers called my name at 8 pm. I asked them were my sister was. They found her. Then my bladder decided to kick in after the left. My nurse wanted me to walk to the bathroom. I made a deal that the next time I would walk to the bathroom. Needless to say I didn't go on the bedpan. At 10 pm I was out the bed walked to the bathroom. Oh I hit the pca pump before going to the bathroom. From then on I was walking to the bathroom. They had me on the pca pump. Right now I can't remember the name of the other pain med that was given. My pain was well managed. I didn't have the gas pain. My nurse said it was probably because I moved around so much while I was in bed. I walked around on and off. I stayed in the hospital for one day. You will be cold after surgery. Once I got home I only took extra strength Tylenol for pain. Only exercise I did walk around my apartment the first six weeks. Week 7 I was at the gym. I was constipated. TMI. Lol. I talk stool softeners and that helps. My hot flashes went on vacation for six weeks. Now my body can't decide if it wants to have a hot flash or a cold flash. I weigh myself every two weeks. I had a stall the first month. I'm losing slowly but that's ok with me. Keep gas x strips handy. Keep you blanket close by Take it one day at a time Don't weigh yourself every day or you will go nuts Walk, walk, walk Sugarfree popsicles can be your best friend I hope this helps

    TMI SORRY

Literally one of the most commonly asked questions on the forum: https://www.bariatricpal.com/search/?&q=TMI&search_in=titles Just searching "TMI" in the titles only will give you 481 results. "Constipation" will give you 467. The search tool is better now than it used to be. To answer your question, it's not abnormal. It's pretty common. If you don't have a BM after a week, start with the laxatives/stool softeners. And talk to your Dr.

    TMI SORRY

How long before you guys had a bowel movement after surgery. Is it normal not to go during the post op liquid stages?
  7. Every doc is different on their procedures regarding this. It's not too much tmi to them. Ask, but the usual is miralax and stool softeners. Dosages can change for postop bariatric patients, so check with your surgeon's office.
  8. March 30, 4 days post op. The sunken in incisions hurt the most when I laugh and cough. When i poop its diarrhea and its comes out like a fart. Lol. Tmi. I know. Umm I feel myself getting better. Just a new experience. No regrets I know i am doing it for my health. To better myself. I just try to breathe in and out. Just relax. But praying for a speedy recovery.

    Fiber!!!

I can eat 4-6 ounces depending on what it is. I've been lucky I haven't found anything that hurts my new stomach. It is extremely painful to go and it's only 1 or 2 times a week. TMI I know!

    When does this get easier?

Sleevy, I'm on day 5 now and I agree with you the gas pains are the worst. I'll tell you what I have done to help and I am much better today. I definitely walk every hour. I know this may be TMI but during my walk I go sit on the toilet also because at least for me it is mentally easier to pass gas's while there. I have used the gasx strips which have helped a little and the thing that I think helps the most is lying on my left side with my knees bent. Lots of pillows! I did that two nights ago and burped and farted ALL night. I am still having pains but they are not nearly as bad today. Oh, and a heating pad between my shoulder blades (where my gas pains are the worst) has helped immensely. I also had hiatal hernia repair so I feel a little constricted around my chest but it's not so bad. One last thing. I'm allowed my liquid pain meds once every six hours but it was only lasting for three hours. I am now taking 1\2 a dose every three hours which has really really really helped I feel for you right now and hope that some of this helps.
  11. This is majorly TMI so back arrow if you need to. Posting this who may need the reassurance and help like I did. I of course am not a doctor but here's my situation. I had surgery on 3/23/17, so I'm only a week out. I've been on the liquid diet and my pain meds this whole time. Until yesterday I was not able to fully meet the 64oz requirement. My surgeon told me to build up to it and I did. I've been sleepy alot from the pain meds making me drowsy and from recovering overall. My walking consisted of walking around the house and outside some to keep things moving. Until yesterday. I felt up for going shopping, no bending but i drove the cart while the fiance grabbed the groceries. Walked around for quite a bit. This helped work out gas....and constipation. Holy moly. I don't even remember not going, I was going some everyday so I thought things were fine...at least I think I was. With this working out and the pain meds, the iron supplement, the more sitting than standing, and the not meeting my water goals i had severely hard and dry stool. One of the worst pains I've experienced. I couldn't get the last but out, I was agonizing in pain. I checked my "okay" meds for after surgery and milk of magnesia was suggested. I took 30ml, which is the smaller dose. It did nothing. I was so scared (This was a longer ordeal but sparing you the details) I almost went to the ER. I really didn't want to do that so I called my surgeons office (mind you it's midnight by this time) to see if there was an after hours emergency number but the call went right to this after hours number who sent me to the on call doctor who told me that I didn't take enough. Told me to take the full dose and give it the 6 hours. So I did. I made myself chill out and fall asleep. Woke up 4 hours later and it worked. It was still painful as all to pass that but it worked. I've had this full ache on my right side that I thought was gas and maybe it was but ever since all of this passed it is gone!! Sharing this as I've heard this is common, not sure if it was as painful and severe as mine but in case....i highly advise you drink all of your water asap! And walk, even just a 10 minute walk around your neighborhood. I thought getting up and around my house was enough but it was not. I'm so glad I'm not going to the ER, that would have been humiliating. Sorry for TMI, but felt it was important to share.

    Getting sleeved on 3/27

Like everyone else, I had heparin shots in the hospital along with many bags of antibiotics. We were surprised that none has to be sent home with us. My dr has his own rules for each stage. He calls this one "food that goes easily through a straw". So I've been able to have a bit of strained creamed corn soup, miso, etc along with juice/water mix, G2, and premier protein shakes. And hopefully not TMI for this forum, but I've been passing gas since my discharge. At this point, only the dogs really notice. My big bugaboo is turning over in bed at night. Oh my god, OW. That really pulls my bigger incision (next to the belly button). I didn't even manage it last night.

    Imodium

I'm almost 5 months post-op & for some reason this week after I drink my shake for breakfast it seems to be going right thru me (sorry if that's TMI). Has anybody used Imodium after surgery for diarrhea? I really hesitate to take a Pepto or Imodium, I just don't know if my little stomach can handle that after surgery. Has anybody?
  14. Hello, im 27y.o i got sleeved on 12/6 Sw 250 Cw 203 Its been almost 3 weeks and i havent been able to lose any weight, im scared this is it! When i do not go to the gym im working out at home. My doctor said i need to eat more Proteins bc im eating under my 70grams i get full quickly and i can only eat chicken or fish, bc the other meats are too hard for me. It hurts when it goes down so i tried to avoid them. I dont know what im doing wrong, also my hair started falling like crazy and for some reasons im having bad body odor (armpits...tmi) which it never happened to me since i was 12 So idk what to do next? What am i doing wrong? Im getting so discouraged like this is it?
  15. Hi Everyone, I am new to this board but I really needed to see if anyone else was having/has had this similar issue when it comes to going to the bathroom (pooping if we're being real). I told my doctor and he didn't seem worried, but its really bothersome. I was regular right after surgery with no problems until I hit the Puree stage, ever since then I have been going every two days (which seems ok to me) my only problem is when I do have to go to the bathroom I get an intense stomach ache while going, and sometimes for another 30 minutes afterwards or on one occasion the whole day I felt my stomach was not right. and maybe a little TMI but when I go on these days I go A LOT. like ALOT ALOT. (also worth noting, I am not straining to go to the bathroom, I don't feel constipated at all when I go) My sister is a nurse and she suggested I take the Miralax prescribed by my doctor until I am going everyday regularly. I started doing that and have been going -pain free- everyday for the past few days, however today when I went I had the same issue. I sometimes even get sweaty and feel like what some describe as "dumping syndrome" is happening to me, even if I haven't eaten anything bad or anything at all. Sorry if this is long winded, but I was just wondering if anyone else gets bad stomach aches before they "go" ?
  16. This is TMI I've always been on the heavier side of my periods and they would last 7-10days I'm experiencing my first menstrual and it's totally different. I'm barely cramping and I'm very light. I'm on day 4 and it's super light still. What has been your experience? Does it change? Should I worry? Is this normal?
  17. Hi all--I was just sleeved on march 21st. Surgery went well and I am home recouping. I am supposed to be on clear liquids until the 28th and see my surgeon on the 29th. I can't tolerate the protein powder. I've tried two different kinds in my drinks and all it does is run right through me and give me gas and diarrhea. Sorry for tmi... Isopure drinks make me want to vomit. I would call my surgeon and ask but it might take forever for a call back. I feel very tired and weak. Does any one have any other suggestions? I did pour about four oz of fairlife milk--the one with less carbs and more protein and have yet to have about two oz of it. So far have tolerated it okay. I know it's not clears, but does any one else know what I can try? Thank you!!
  18. This will be a TMI post... I am exactly 49 days post op (yay) Finally starting to feel like myself and experimenting with eating different foods. Its awesome. I haven't had many issues with rejecting food just yet or throwing up so I am really thankful for that. However, my excitement is short lived because......I haven't been able to poop independently since surgery About two weeks postop I had an issue with fecal impaction and it. was. the. worst. thing. ever. I thought I was going to die. the pain, dehydration, straining, dizzy/faint feeling was enough for me to vow to never go that long without pooping again. Therefore I have resorted to using different ways to make myself go. Anytime I have gone has been with the assistance of suppositories or enemas, stool softeners, etc. although they (sometimes) work I really don't want to continue to have to use enemas and suppositories because I feel like constant use CANT be healthy...also being on all fours shoving liquid up your bum, less than desirable :/ I have tried upping my Fiber, nothing. I have tried eating fibrous fruits, no dice. So the next thing I wanted to try is this Wheat bran, prune juice and applesauce mixture that I read might help? Has anyone tried this and had good/bad/any results???

    Just wondering

Maybe Guys are different or maybe it's just me and this is definitely TMI but I wish I would have taken Miralax or something. Two days or so after Surgery I discovered what Natural Childbirth must feel like and the Bad thing is no Epidural lol. Right after I got home I would take a stool softener and repeat every other day unless your body decides to be nice and become regular. Once again it doesn't effect everyone like this but it's good to keep some softeners around.
  20. I am sure that this is TMI but I just have to ask: While you guys were on your liquid diet, did you have the runs? The reason why I am asking is because every 2 hours I am heading to the bathroom with liquid results. I am just wondering if this is normal. Again I do apologize if this is gross, I just want to know, what are some things you did to relieve this issue without breaking your diet. Thanks,

  23. I relied heavily on low sodium broth, sugar free popcicles, lukewarm water. Didn't worry about protein the first 10 days or so, just tried to get as much hydration as possible. Don't get dehydrated, you will suffer with terrible constipation (TMI).

    Need advice: Protein drinks

IMHO, if it is related to the bariatic surgery journey, there is never TMI.
  25. Sorry if that's TMI, but that's what it feels like. I am 6 months post-op and am having trouble with food after eating. About an hour or so after eating, sometimes if feels like liquid food is rolling into my esophagus. It tastes acidy but reminiscent of whatever I'd just eaten. It's hard to describe, it doesn't happen all the time, and it can happen while I am sitting or lying down (like when lounging around watching TV or reading). Once it starts, it takes about 20-30 minutes to go away. Tums or sipping something doesn't seem to make any difference. Any idea of what it could be? I have my 6 month follow up with my surgeon in a week and will definitely talk to her about it then.
