  1. I had my surgery on February 11th. I am doing great. Haven't found anything that doesn't agree so far. (Fingers crossed) I have hit a three week stall praying that stops sometime soon. I'm doing a mile on the elliptical and a mile on the treadmill 3-4 nights a week. So excited for what the future holds for all of us!!!! Surgery weight: 263 Present weight:235 Total loss:28 pounds

    Any February 2014 Sleevers?

    I don't know if I have hit a stall yet. I got so worried about the dreaded three week stall and the frustration and anxiety that could come it that I stopped weighing at my three week mark. I will weigh in again this weekend or at my 5 week point. I'm four weeks out today and feeling great. I can notice a difference in my energy level no matter if I get enough sleep or not. I am very happy with my sleeve!

    For some reason I thought I was going to be "better" than everybody else and not go through a three week stall that thousands talk about. HA! I was delusional. Lost a whopping 0.4lbs this week Oh well, at least I know its normal and to keep on keeping on.
  5. Catnapped, not sure what the purpose of your original post was, but if it was in reference to some posters not getting a response, then I have to agree with sassy pants. I used to come on here everyday while researching my decision to have surgery. I searched and read and asked questions every day. Even immediately after surgery, I was obsessed with checking the forums. I responded to a lot of posts with my advice and experiences. But then it got old with the same old posts.... "Three week stall"...."gained weight during surgery"..."preop diet sucks "..."can't get my Protein in"..."craving carbs". I realize each person making these posts feels they may be alone or the only one with these issues, but a simple search of the topics and responses would reveal a lot of answers without starting a whole new thread. I don't even bother reading these posts anymore much less respond to them because the answers have already been posted dozens of times. I think we are all on here for support, and the search feature could probably reveal a lot more answers to everyone's concerns if it were used. Even reviving an older revalent thread can sometimes be more helpful than starting a new one that may get overlooked.

  7. I'm really discouraged and feeling completely ashamed about almost EVERYTHING following this surgery. Pretty much the same amount of self-loathing before the procedure! The three week stall, the weird things happening to my insides, the stomach acid...I could go on. It's all distressing. And frustrating. Even though I'm on soft foods now, I still can't get in enough calories on high Protein stuff. I try to choke down 1/4 cup of tuna or egg salad each day for lunch but I can't force myself to eat more than 4-5 bites of it. Two days ago I decided to eat a piece of pizza and I was able to eat the whole slice! Then another a few hours later! It was music to my mouth and I was SO relieved to be able to eat something. But now? Eater's remorse. I feel like crap for doing that now because I feel like this isn't the right food to be eating. The last day or so I've done a tortilla once or twice a day with a little cheese and guacamole and have been able to eat and enjoy it. Again, I feel like this is not what I should be having but my hunger is starting to finally come back & I want to start eating more. I'm going to bake salmon tomorrow & see how I tolerate that but I really hate that the high protein foods I'd LIKE (and NEED) to be eating aren't being tolerated successfully. Please tell me others have had this happen and have gone on to do better, have the ability to eat the "right" foods over time AND have gone on to lose weight.

    Help me?

    I gained back the ten pounds after surgery that I had lost before surgery. My pressure was low so I was loaded me with IV fluids and it took over two weeks just to get back to my pre surgery weight. So don't beat yourself up. I'm nine weeks out and just came off a three weeks stall. It was really hard to stay positive. But my body was still working because I lost inches not weight over that three week period. So hang in there this to shall past just follow the program you physician gave you.
  9. Has anyone heard or had the experience of a three week stall? I have been doing everything right. I'm getting in about 500-600 calories a day, I'm on mushy foods and I have been able to tolerate everything so far. I haven't tried anything I'm not supposed to have. I'm walking about a mile a day, drinking 64 Ozs of fluids, and getting in between 70-90 grams of protein a day. At my two week weigh in, I had lost 18 lbs since my pre-surgery weight but then nothing since then! I understand plateaus and stalls and even having a small plateau this early, but I've never in all my years of dieting have had a plateau this early and for this long. I called my dr and they gave me a couple suggestions, but so far, that isn't working either. I'm bummed because I expected at least the first month or two to have the fat melt away and that's not happening. Has anyone else had this happen and if so, how long did it take to get past it? I've increased fluids, exercise and protein and still nada!

    The Slow Losers Thread

    Great post! I'm at week 4 and have not lost at all this week. I've been getting about 60- 70 grams of protein in a day, but I'll try for 80 to see if it helps. Before this week, I was loosing 1-2 lbs a day, so when it stopped and one day I gained 2 lbs, I couldn't believe it! I know I shouldn't weigh every morning, but I can't help it. I'm so excited and anxious too see the fat melt away. I guess I just had high expectations and am impatient. Lol. Anyways thanks for the tips and protein suggestions. Also, thanks everyone for all your posts and advice. Oh and I've heard of a three week stall... Has anyone else heard or experienced this? I hope it doesn't last too much longer (I can't help my impatience!)
  11. I was sleeved on Jan. 22 so I’m 3.5 weeks post-op. Up until Feb. 9th, I was losing weight at a pretty consistent rate. However, since the 9th, I’ve been bouncing up and down between 3 pounds. I have heard about and understand the science behind the 3 week stall. I also understand that my body is going under major changes but I’m afraid I’m doing something wrong with my food choices. If it is just a stall, how long do they usually last? I am starting to get discouraged. I know I wasn’t getting enough Water and Protein so I’ve been very conscientious about meeting the minimums over the last week or so. I have also been experiencing light-headedness. I have emailed my NUT but I don't think I'll hear from her until Tuesday. I figured I'd ask the experts in this group to see if you had any guidance. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Post-op Weight loss?

    I lost 36 pounds the first three weeks and then went into a three week stall. During that time I did not lose any weight. I am 3 1/2 months out now and down over 70 pounds in total. So yes what you are going through is normal. I started loosing again when I was able to get in more water and protein. I also was very frustrated and thought that the surgery was not going to work. I just got on here and read about other people and that the 3 week stall was very common. Some weeks I will loose 1 pound and then another week it could be up to 5 pounds. Hope this helps.
  13. I had the very same issues the first month after surgery. I dropped 36 pounds in the first three weeks. Then went into a three week stall. I could not handle the soy Protein drinks either. Thank god I found the nectar Protein Drinks on diet direct. I mainly use the road side lemonade. I drink these while at work because a little afraid to eat. I never know how my body will handle the food. Now that I am 3 1/2 months out I can handle more dairy, just in small amounts. So things will get better.     Search the forum for the 3 week stall and you'll find hundreds of posts. Stick with your plan and don't freak out. It probly more normal to have the three week stall than to not have it. You'll be fine. This too shall pass.
  15. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery (about 24 days). I'm in the three week stall and I am ok. Am I struggling with Water and Protein? Yes. Am I not getting enough sleep? Yes. Am I exhausted and not getting my daily exercise in? Yes. Am I depressed? No. Why? Because I adjust, I do better each day. Each day I push myself. If there is something that is outside the scope of what I should be eating I throw it out. I don't put it away for later, I just chuck it out. I added strength training (resistance) to my routine and I know I'm retaining water because of it. Instead of having a melt down I will continue with the light resistance training 3x a week. Why? Because it makes me feel better: stronger, healthier, like I'm advancing. When I weighed in this morning my weight was UP (and I wanted to freak out but I didn't). I know it is because of water retention (and lack of water). My rational brain is fighting to keep me calm. I couldn't sleep well last night but I woke up and came here to read and find solace in the community. And though sleepy I found reason to keep taking steps forward. Even though it nauseates me in the mornings I'm working on my water. I had a tsp of Peanut Butter and am working on a Protein shake right now. I am separated from my significant other and I slid on my water and protein focus because of that last week. Also, I have been stressed and so my body is holding on to everything; I can feel it (isn't that a funny thing?). But still, I nap when I find the relaxation and I wake up ready to keep going. Now, I have resistance bands at home and my treadmill arrives tomorrow. I watched weight of the nation last night and I didn't feel like such a failure. Just another warrior on this path with the rest of you. I forgot myself in the fog of my sadness: I forgot I am not alone, I forgot that this is not a journey of days but of months and years. And so, even though I am tired, hope wakes here. Thank you. Because of all of you and the strength you show; because of all of you and the weakness we share; because I took the leap off the cliff and it is time to trust my wings and fly. As I ponder the struggles of this journey I keep reminding myself: no matter if you trip or stumble, just get up, keep going, hope remains.

  17. I'm working hard to eat clean, get my Protein and Water in, walking, and keep track of things. So why is it that I'm only two weeks out and my weight loss hasn't moved since the end of week 1? I know the three week stall is something that is of common lore but I stalled right at the start of week 2. I feel like it is a shifting dynamic and people say: do what you are supposed to do. By all counts I am doing what I am "supposed" to do. I can feel that my body is stressed and holding on so I'm working on getting as much water in as possible as well as extra sleep. I find it difficult to ingest protein in the mornings due to nausea. Not much is appealing to me in terms of food. The bigger thing is my fear of failing after the lap-band failure. I feel stressed about losing weight: this was a big financial investment and I am devoting so much energy and attention to these efforts. I'm going to incorporate eggs/egg whites so I might be able to get some more protein in. Today I have such a mixture of emotions -- frustration and anger -- with that darn number on the scale. I only weigh once a week and I'm getting ready to put the thing away completely for a while. It's superbowl Sunday in Bronco country and I'll be going to a party where there will be very little to nothing I can eat. I'm feeling stressed about that as well. All this stress cannot be aiding in the weight loss process. Is it possible to follow the rules and fail?
  18. I had surgery Nov. 22nd. I feel great! I'm down 48 lbs and loving it. It's great to hear everyone else is doing well too. I did hit a three week stall not too long after surgery and that was frustrating. However, I do understand the weight WILL come off. I find so much support on this website so this is where I come for learning and understanding. Good job everybody! I look forward to the updates!

    Post-Op January 2014 Losers Club!

    This morning my three week stall was broken. At one point, I'd actually gained a pound. How's that even possible?! Lol. This morning I'm down 5 pounds!! Don't get discouraged.

    Stall this early?

    Most everyone stalls at 3 weeks. It's been dubbed the dreaded three-week stall. It's completely normal. Brace yourself for the stalls. They happen. And it sucks. You just have to push through it.

    Weight gain!

    Oh, wow, that's no fun at all. But sometimes the weight can go up or down a pound or two on any given day. This could be part of "the three week stall" we've heard so much about. How is your Fluid intake? What are your potion sizes? Are you writing down what you eat and tracking calorie/protein/carb intake? Are you drinking Protein shakes to supplement the nutrients for what you're eating? Are you constipated? It's definitely worth tracking those things and taking the information to your doctor during a follow-up to see if there's a way you can kick your weight loss back into gear. The main thing-- don't let it stress you out. Develop a healthy eating plan and stick to it! You can do it. I haven't been tracking... I will start doing that today. I am constipated but not as bad as I was when I was on pain meds but it's still going on. I am just drinking chocolate whey isolate shakes in the morning. I can usually take about a cup of food or less but def no more than a cup.

    My sleeve Day 1

    27 days post op 204 lbs Not much to post about lately cause I've been stalled now for a week. I hit the dreaded three week stall at 18 days out. Im going to have to get back to my Protein requirements because I've noticed since I started eating normal food I'm barely getting anything in. Last night hubby wanted sea food which I'm not a huge fan of but I like catfish and figured that would be a great source of protein. I made catfish, shrimp, fried okra, and red Beans and rice. I put a carefully measured three ounces of catfish on my plate and a tablespoon of tartar sauce. That was two fillets... I managed to eat one. So my dinner was 1.5 oz of fish. I should have stopped at one ounce I guess cause it sat there and sat there and I ended up getting sick live and learn I guess. As much as I'm sick of Protein Shakes I better just do it.

    My doc said figure 10 pounds a month average. 3 a week is GREAT! Many people have the "three week stall" starting around the first 3 weeks, and you can have no weight loss for weeks... this is normal! Try not to compare yourself with others, your body will do what it needs to do in its own sweet time... just follow the rules, Water, move, Protein first and go through the stages.... you will be fine. If it makes you feel bad weighting more often, weigh every month or two weeks. I made a deal with myself that I would not let the numbers push me around emotionally if I weigh every day, and thats what I have always done.

    I'm interested though how much everyone lost on average every week? I'm not trying to compare myself to anyone just interested if there is a big variance in weekly averages. Hi Ditdee.Mine varied and I am currently in the middle of a three week stall after gaining then losing 1kg over Xmas My monthly losses approx after July 2013 when I was sleeved are: Aug 7kg Sep 5kg Oct 5kg Nov 3kg Dec 3.5kg Aiming to break the stall even if only by 1kg.I have lost 60% excess weight which is surgical goal but hope to lose another 20% which doesn't look likely atm.
