  1. Hi all, My surgery was on September 7th and I've lost 20 pounds since then ...woot woot! Well here it is....I'm moving into my 3rd week and BAM! it's been about 3 days and my weight has stayed the same if not 1 pound gain, lose, gain back. Ugh. I know....this is by far the most loss I've had in such a short amount of time, but still can't help put have that little panic happen even though I've heard of the 3 week stall before. I guess my questions are....what did you do? Did you just wait things out? Did you change things up at all? What helped you get over the dreaded 3 week stall?
  2. Dude, that is a TON of exercise for a body recovering from surgery. I'm preop, so I have no personal experience with the 3-week stall, but postop recovery is something I get paid to help people through. Quite honestly, I'd back off on the exercise and see whether your NUT recommends upping your intake based on the amount of exercise you're doing. Your body is no doubt VERY confused on a cellular level. You're trying to build new cells to heal and breaking them down with so much exercise. In another three weeks or so, you may be ready to take on this much, but I really, really urge you to slow down. Your body's primary job right now is to heal from surgery, not get up the next hill. I realize it's kinda counterintuitive, but it's true. Yeah, you only had a few bandaids on the outside, but there's a whole lot of work going on inside. For now, stop focusing on your heart rate and how long you stay there. Try backing off both on mileage and how fast you're walking by about 20-25%. Not forever, just for a couple-three weeks. Then gradually build up again. Let your body catch up to your motivation, OK? Good luck!
  3. @@winklie I was an Oct 1st surgery and the 3-week stall hit me last Monday. From Monday through Friday I did not lose a single pound. Like you my diet was on point... around 700 calories, hitting my Protein requirement and getting enough Water... although I'm not walking nearly as much as you. I did not weight myself this weekend, but as of this morning the scale finally moved. Down 5 lbs compared to last Monday. I bet the stall breaks for you soon.
  4. I understand your frustration. I was sleeved on nov 18 and lost 10 pounds the 1st week which I know was just Water mostly. So now here I am 2 weeks and 2 days into my "3 week stall." If actually really lasts 3 weeks I'm going to lose my s**t. I even gained 2 pounds. I get that fact my body is adjusting to the trauma of surgery and also trying to hold on to everything I put in it because it thinks I'm starving it. My understanding has turned into complete frustration. I decided to up my calories thinking that would help. I went from about 500 to about 800. 200 calories was just from my Protein shake which I hate but i suck it down anyway. I know everyone that says this is normal but it doesn't feel like it. I just makes me feel like I'm failing. It makes me feel like I wasted $12,000 of my hard earned money. I could have gained 2 pounds on my own...ugh
  5. I did the whole 3 week stall thing (fun).. not! And I was wondering if there was another stall that was as predictable? I'm on a decent roll right now but I can't stop wondering when it's going to stop. Thanks
  6. He lost 34lbs in 1 week. He was told about the stall that is coming, yet is upset that he is not losing for 1 week, which would be the 3 week stall that is all over this forum. I bumped this to remind him and not get discouraged. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling disappointed ...

Yeah I'm there.. Had surgery on 8-12 lost about 15 pounds first 2 weeks then stalled for what will be the 3 weeks on Wednesday.. Just keeping my head up and plowing forward but a 3 week stall sux lol
  8. @@frozengrapes Try not to get discouraged. This is the time for the 3 week stall. It's important to meet your protein and fluid goals (not just close) and the scale will move. Your body is adjusting. I hope your Dr explained that and told you to stay off the scale.
  9. I've been very nauseous the last few days and vomit after eating very little. Even water now is making me nauseous and I already struggle with getting in all my protein and water at 5 weeks post op. I'm not sick (I feel great) and I'm not complaining either but I would love to keep some food down. I'm in a 3 week stall and want to lose the weight in a healthy manner. Anything OTC that has worked for others? I hate that I can't have a nice cold ginger ale!

    Plication Surgery

Oh, yes! At about 2-3 weeks post surgery, I went into a stall for THREE weeks!! Drove me crazy, but I just kept reminding myself about the "Dreaded 3 week Stall" and, sure enough, if finally broke! I did have to tighten up my calories and carbs a little before it did, but it did break, and that was all that counted!

    Loving the new me!

Did you go through a lot of stalls? How did you work your nutrition plan? I need help. I'm one month in and I'm currently experiencing my 3 week stall and it's frustrating. Sent from my VS990 using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing weight

Agreed. My 3 week stall lasted 3 weeks, from about week 2.5 to about week 5.5. I was SO frustrated. But it broke and I've been losing since. At that time I went from weighing daily to weighing weekly. Doesn't change the numbers but at least I could not focus on them most of the week and just focus on eating my plan and walking.

    2 Weeks Post-Op

I'm now 2 weeks out and I've lost 14 lbs since surgery, 36 since i started my pre-op. I'm feeling pretty good about it. I wish it was more, but we all wish that, don't we? I also have my time of month, so I know that's probably good for about 3-5 lbs. I have noticed, as my endo said I would that the adrenaline issues from the tumors on my adrenal glands is significantly LESS. The adrenaline created is partly in response to the grehlin created in the stomach. Hormones cause other hormones to do other hormonal things. When a person feels hungry, they have a survival instinct that kicks in brought about by adrenaline. Huh. makes sense. Happy with my progress thus far. Happy with my choice. Happy with my recovery. Just getting very happy these days I know I'm about ready for the 3 week stall, which I'm okay with. Its not like I can eat a cheesecake over it

    Weight loss stall

Yes, stalls are completely normal, even this early. As @summerseeker said above, the "3 week stall" is notorious. It often happens between week 3-6 post-op and can last 3-6 weeks. The reality is, you just had MAJOR surgery. Your body is healing and trying to sort itself out, in addition to massive dietary changes. You need to give yourself lots of grace and just be patient - trust the process. Hit your protein & fluids, eat according to your plan, move your body in ways that feel good and don't cause pain or exhaustion. The scale will move again but it can't be your sole, or even primary, focus. If you have any major concerns, definitely reach out to your surgery team, but for now, your job is to heal and follow your plan!
  15. Well, I am almost a month out and I am constantly worrying about whether the surgery is going to work. What if I went through all of this for nothing? (BTW, you may see in my profile that I have lost 81 pounds; most of that was before surgery and I have only lost 15 pounds since surgery, and hit the 3-week stall right on schedule.) I can tell you that you should absolutely not draw any conclusions from a single week, and frankly, shame on your dietitian for saying how much you "should have" lost in 6 days. She should know better. I lost over 60 pounds in the 5 months before my surgery, and I had a few stalls, including one where I lost no weight for two whole weeks, despite the fact that I "should have" lost a few pounds based on my calorie deficit. Also, I had some GI discomfort during my pre-op diet and I've had very few issues since surgery (other than the first few days), so don't make any conclusions about that, either. Your stomach will be totally different after surgery so there's no telling how you'll feel then.

How I broke my latest stall

the 3 week stall happens to most people. Your body needs to adjust. Never fear it will pass I know it is hard to believe that but its true. I stall all the time. This last stall lasted for almost a month. I no longer get upset as I know this is how I lose. I will stall for quite a while and then lose a bunch. I don't mind it as long as I know I am still having the times when I lose. I know my body will lose weight with the amount of calories I consume in a day. Just think back to what we used to eat in a day and look where we are now!! Good luck!
  17. I started at 272 pre sleeve. at 3 weeks out i had lost 24 lbs. at 6 weeks out ( after a 3 week stall) I had lost 30lbs. now at nearly 8 weeks out i have lost 37lbs. You have probably hit your first stall, happens to us all, and it will end, they can last from a few days to several weeks. just keep doing what you are supposed to and it will start to fall off again .
  18. The one pound gain is absolutely normal. I gained a pound today and in the next few days I'll probably lose 3 or 4. It's normal, it's natural and it may be sodium, it may be hotter out by you, (sometimes heat causes Water retention). Sometimes it's your body catching up, it's also the time of day you weigh yourself. Lack of normal bowel movements is a big issue. We had water in and water out, and now I take metamucil and prescription amitiza and still need a suppository to go potty. It's as though I forgot how to poop without it being water. Relax, there are hundreds of posts regarding 3 week stall. This is normal. I stalled presurgery on 800 calories a day 80 grams of Protein and 45-75 carbs a day. On the days I ate LESS...and my exercise pretty much covered my food I would have a 3 pound INCREASE....then I'd be ticked off go out to Red Lobster, overeat and lose that 3 pounds plus another 3 pounds. It's perfectly normal.

Band removed 12-6-13 and sleeved on 3-6-14.Back to work after one week, still some pain in lower left-but getting better each day.I haven't seen the scale move in over a week, after initially losing 21.Is this normal? Anyone else having this same issue? Is this the 3 week stall?#trying to stay encouraged.
  20. I finally hit 50 pounds lost today!!!! It's exactly 3 months since my surgery and I'm down 1 clothing size, 1 ring size, and 50 pounds!!!! It seems like my body likes to do a 2-3 week stall every month and a half or so, so it's been slow going. But it FINALLY happened today. WooHoo!!!!!
  21. So I have been stalling lately for 2-3 weeks at a time and only lost 2 pounds in 2 months. Surgery was 4/26 lost 45lbs total. I'm 4 months out and feel I should have lost a lot more. At my 3 month check up they said I was on track but I don't feel like I am. Honestly it's so hard days to even get all my Protein and Water in. I was just wondering if anyone else had long stalls like me. I have only found couple days to 2-3 weeks stalls at the most. Sent from my iPhone

    Barely loseing

Thank you, I've heard of the 3 week stall but never week 1 it threw me a bit and I've been feeling down as my weightloss is not near people that had surgery on the same day. It's very hard not to compare although I'm trying. I'm still in quarrantine due to covid restrictions in my Country but definitely looking forward to get walking. Thanks alot. 23. okay so im a little over 3 weeks and i have stalled now for well over a week..ive actually gained 3 lbs. i dont understand what the heck is going on!!! is it normal to stall this long? and after the first stall does the weight start to come off as fast as the begining or is it normally slower? I know i could be not eating enough but man this is very discouraging!!! i am having a hard time with this..i just keep feeling like im going to be overweight all my life and still never eat normal...not that i want to pig out but just saying if im not loosing weight i might as well eat like an overweight person...I know that im being silly and emotional but i go to the gym everyday and im going to start back to Zumba tomorrow night...surely this is just the normal 3 week stall but im just afraid it should have been over already!!! any advice or maybe if anyone else has been through this could shed some light would be great..thanks yall!!!
  24. It is probably a combination of the steroids and the 3 week stall. My "3 week stall" actually started at week 2 1/2 and lasted 3 weeks. It eventually broke and I've been pretty steady since. For Protein, I like the Premier Protein shakes in Chocolate and Latte (if your Dr. is OK with caffeine). You can find them at Costco as well as online.
