  1. I agree, 8lbs since surgery is around 1/2 lb per day. That is pretty good weight loss. There will be stalls (3 week stall) and times where the weight just falls off. Just stick with the plan that you have been given and the weight should continue to come off.

    I feel so down

I lost nothing for a week post op. As a matter of fact, Im pretty sure I gained a lb. i went to my one week appt and cried my eyes out when they weighed me. The doctor explained that it will come off... the following week I was down 10 lbs and have lost 25 lbs post op so far...now Im at the dreaded 3 weeks stall... Believe me, I know its hard. I told my husband that I wish I could fast forward to a year from now lol.

    ❤JULY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm on board too... June has been kind of hit and miss for me. The 3 week stall really got in my head and, combined with other unpleasant post op stuff, I sort of lost focus. I need to get myself recentered and up my activity level. I'm hopeful that the stall is maybe busted and that the scale will start moving again. And while I don't have the equipment to do all the exercises listed, my arms need a lot of work. Me in a nutshell: RnY mid-May 2019 Current weight: 215.8lb July Goals: Walk 5km (using nordic walking poles) five days a week Do arm workouts/photo challenge daily Participate in Camp NaNo (a creative writing challenge... 25000 words in 31 days) Look super-awesome at my hubs' high school reunion

    Stalls?

Stalls suck ass, but I've just accepted them as part of the process. I always keep in mind that you want the overall trend of your weight to be down and not up. A 2-3 week stall may seem hopeless and feel like an eternity. But if you're not gaining any weight either, I don't see it as a problem. Just keep doing what you're doing. It's a marathon not a sprint.
  7. Use the board's search function and put in terms like "3 week stall". This is something that virtually everyone goes through. It can hit 2 - 5 weeks out, usually in weeks 3 or 4. At week 3 I stalled for about 10 weeks. BTW, one week with no loss isn't really a stall. That's a misnomer. It would be much more accurate to call it "an equilibrium period". It's your body doing what it is supposed to do.

    3 week stall

(Bump bc I don't wanna make a new thread) I mentally prepared myself for my 3 week stall, but bc I had to stop taking birth control to avoid blood clots, my period also came at the exact same time week 3 started. Not only did i stall, but I have a ton of water weight, so I 'gained' a bit. Luckily I know what's going on& i know that's gonna go away & so I don't feel too bad about it, but MAN your first stall is really a bummer. I just gotta keep going

Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

I hit my 3 week stall at 2 1/2 weeks. It's normal. It'll break and you'll lose weight again. Just stick to your plan and watch for the non scale victories. Those are a huge help.
  10. please search 3 week stall on here. i believe it will make you feel much better...

    April Update from everyone

Feeling much better today! I was able to drink all my hot protein chocolate cocoa, cream of potatoe soup, and just had about 6 small bites of refried beans for lunch! I have already finished a 16oz bottle of water and am working on a 20oz protein drink (cappachino flavor). This is the first day since my surgery that I have actually been able to eat this much and drink too! OMG, maybe this sleeve is actually gonna work?! Lets just hope my 3 week stall from last week doesnt carry over into this week too!! ugh... I've been stuck at the same exact weight since last monday. no movement. I'm increasing my fluids and calories so lets hope that works!!

4 weeks post VSG update with photos

You're beautiful! Remember, there's a very well-documented 3 week stall that can happen anywhere between 2-4 weeks. Hang in there. It will come off! Congrats on the surgery and losses!
  13. I am preop still too and trying to lose some before surgery because I am impatient and want to feel better NOW! I've lost 25 lbs in the past 3 months, not nearly as fast as I will lose after surgery, but I try to view each pound off as a gift. It's incredibly hard for me to lose any weight by dieting - hence the reason I am going for something as drastic as surgery and I am sure the same is true for you. If it came off easy, we wouldn't need the surgery! Have you been using anything like myFitnessPal to track your food & weight? I have, and it's been very interesting to see all the crazy ups and downs and how it rarely makes any sense. I have 2-3 week stalls even when I am doing everything right. And then I might have a big loss after splurging and eating very badly. Go figure. But - the main thing is overall I am 25 lbs better off than I was before. I can drive myself a bit crazy weighing every day but I can't seem to make myself stop that 40 year habit. You are 11 lbs lighter and healthier than you were a month ago! That's something to Celebrate. And you lost that in 2 weeks, so your body is just pausing and doing a little "hey, what's going on here?" bit and needs a little more time to get used to the changes. Don't go back to your old habits because that will guarantee that you don't lose any more and you will likely gain back quickly what you've worked so hard to lose. Hang in there. If you are eating healthier than you were before and are feeling more energetic and better overall, then try not to sweat too much about what the scale says. Knowing I will have surgery soon and will have that HUGE help to get the rest of the weight off and hopefully keep it off the rest of my life, helps me obsess a little less when I don't see progress for a couple of weeks.
  14. Praise the Lord, I'm 6 months post op, and very thankful my diabetes was reversed as well as severe reflux I had prior to surgery! My weight loss has been slow with many 3 week stalls, and my surgeon recommends I have to increase the protein intake, as I slacked off of protein shakes the last few months. (Just got tired of them). I'm back to having a protein shake of 30 gm. plus what I get in foods to hopefully increase wt. loss & slow down hair loss. Overall, done well down 50 lbs. & Hgb A1C is 5.4 (also off cholesterol med. since surgery, but lab levels creeping back up, keeping a watch on it)
  15. I've searched and searched this 3 week stall thing, but I'm not getting the answers I need and desparately need the help of my pro sleevers please!! I'm working on my 4th week of being sleeved. I'm on full liquids which include creamed Soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, cream of wheat, etc. Since last monday the scale has not moved at all!! I'm stuck and need some advice. (I dont weigh everyday. I weight about every other day or every 3 days.) This week is the first time I've been able to actually get water/fluids/thick fluids down with ease! I've been struggling getting all my 64oz of Water in and my 80g of Protein a day. But yesterday was great and I was able to drink all my fluids and consume all my protein. Here is what I have scheduled for todays menu: Morning: Bariatric Hot Chocolate- 15g protein, 80cal BF: Zoi greek yogurt w/splenda- 11g protein, 100cal Drink throught the day: Syntrax nectar Cappachino- 20oz, 48g protein, 0cal L: 6oz of cream of potatoe Soup blended- 2g protein, 120cal S: Premier Protein shake- 30g protein, 160cal D: blended cottage cheese w/seeded cucumber & tomatoe- 14g protein, 100cal Plus about 3 16oz bottles of water throughout the day as well. So, my question is... where am I going wrong? What can I do to help move the scales and my pants sizes along?? I'm getting discouraged and a bit frustrated! I'm following the plan to a "T" and I'm getting most of my essentials in. I just dont know what's wrong!! I understand that my body is still healing and I need to give it time, but I expected a little movement since the past 2 wks. At least something!! Please HELP!!!! Where is TIFFYKINS or LILMISSDIVA???

    3 week Post op update!

Hi Kat! Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Yes, each day my priority is protein and Water. I'm so glad discovered the GNC Wheybolic 60 because immable to bang out 90% of my protein goal by Breakfast. Please note that i make the shake at 7:30 am, and it takes me until nearly noon to finish it (when 2 scoops are mixed with 8 oz milk it makes about a 12-16 oz shake). I add some water too to thin it out a bit, otherwise it's pretty thick and sits heavy on my sleeve. As far as supplements, I take nexium (PPi) and Actigall (to preserve the gallbladder daily). I also take flintstones complete multi vitamins. I will only take the actigaull for 6 months, and the nexium as needed after that. I did purchase an Iron supplement just in case, but probably won't start it until my 3 month labs are done, and only if my iron is low at that point. I'm a big milk/yogurt eater too, so I haven't needed any Calcium supplement, I'd definitely meeting a healthy level each day. Honestly, I think the biggest key to my loss right now has been the gym. I started back at the 2 week mark doing low impact cardio (elliptical, bike, arc trainer, incline walking) and I'm pretty sure that helped me skirt past the dreaded 3 week stall that most people encounter. I had been weighing daily at that point and noticed my loss starting to slow dramatically (.4 pound for 3 days straight) and decided it was time to up the ante a bit. Since that point I've been losing .5-1 lb a DAY. Hoping to prolong this as long as possible...so if I see another slow down I will change up my gym routine again. My intake is around 450-550 calories a day, with 64 oz water/liquids and minimum of 60 grams protein a day...most days I'm hitting a good bit higher (today was 94!). Hope this helps!
  17. My stall happened on Day 6 and lasted almost 2 weeks. Yesterday I woke up to a 3 pound weight loss and today a 1 pound weight loss. Everyone talks about a 3 week stall. I think I just hit mine early and it sounds like yours is right on time. Hang in there! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. Keep following your program. It's perfectly normal to stall for a couple of weeks starting at 3 weeks out. Don't give in to head hunger. Eating carbs will only make it harder -- they just make you crave more carbs. If you get hungry, eat more protein. If you aren't hungry enough to eat some chicken breast, you really aren't hungry. Stay off the scale for a couple of weeks and I bet the next time you get on you will find your stall broken. And I'm not kidding when I say it is normal -- use the search function here or even just do a general google search for something like "vsg 3 week stall" or "week three stall" or something like that. I'm not sure there is anything more universally experienced after weight loss surgery!

it will work for you....you are in the 3 week stall that everyone gets. you wont believe how fast the scale will move once you break that first stall! good luck!

    I am not losing

Don't worry. Stick with your plan. There will be days the scale doesn't move but it will always start up again. Try to weigh in once a week. Search the forum for 3 week stall. You'll see many have experienced it. Good luck with your journey!
  22. Thanks for posting this again, Butter! I think I've read it about 4 times, but it is just such a good article! Plus, I think I'm almost there myself... Sleeved on 11/21, and this was the first time I gained 0.5 lbs. I'm just reminding myself its just Water. Also, I've read a lot of people tend to lose inches during the 3 week stall, and I'm excited for that part... I'm down almost 100 pounds since my highest weight and have only dropped 2-3 sizes, depending on the brand. I am starting to get a little more frustrated with that aspect of things... Anyway, thanks again for the great article!

You're doing awesome! I just returned to work too. Lots of left side pain and I hit the 3 week stall. So glad I knew about it so I can make it through this week and hopefully begin losing again.
