    That 3 week stall tho!

I've read about the notorious "3 week stall" and for some reason I always thought, "Oh come on. If you're doing everything the same in weeks 1,2,4,5,6, why would week 3 be any different?" Welp. I stand corrected. I am officially a victim of this 3 week stall I've been hearing so much about. It sucks, because I worked out 5 days this week and tried my best to overcome the statistics. I even gained a pound Hopefully next week is better! Thinking of doing away with my scale...

    No Energy!

I am just a little over a month out and have also lost 40lbs. At the end of week one, I felt fantastic and had tons of energy. This went on through week 4. Week 5, I felt sluggish and week 6, I could hardly convince myself to get out of bed. I am doing ok with Water and Protein and surprisingly, didn't hit the 3 week stall. Instead, I hit a wall of exhaustion. I don't know how to fix it, but be gentle with yourself. I just rested for days and now I'm beginning to feel more energetic. I think our bodies are just going through some stuff and need more resources to deal with the situation. Keep drinking...
  4. @@snokb04 You are hitting a 3 week stall. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351046-embrace-the-stall/ You really can't compare weight loss of others. There's so much to consider - and what you consider "slow" is really not all that slow. 16 lbs in 3 weeks - that's great! Don't be discouraged! Be sure to meet your Protein goals and Water goals and exercise and you will be successful! From your stats - you've already lost before surgery and that plays alot into how much you lose after surgery as well.
  5. Don't be so hard on yourself ! Any pound gone is a good pound gone! No matter how fast or slow it goes ... We're all different ... we all lose differently and at different paces ... How boring would the world be if we were all the same?! And you said you're 21 days out? Well of course! The dreaded 3 week stall ! We all go through it .... As they say ... This too shall pass ... YOU will rock this! Be Blessed!!

    Hacks, Tips and Helpful Notes

I second @@Sophie74656 - don't buy a ton of stuff pre-op because your taste buds may change. I didn't believe it....didn't think it would happen to me. Had a Protein shake I ABSOLUTELY LOVED and when I drank it post-op??!!! BLECH!!!! The other thing I did to keep my sanity - I only weighed at the doctors office for the first two months. Your body is going to want to "stall" about 3-4 weeks out and if you weigh yourself daily or even weekly and don't see a loss a lot of people freak out and think the surgery was a failure. It's not! You can search "3 week stall" and you will see it's normal. Best of luck!

    Weight loss after sleeve

this is so fabulous it deserves repeating. Based on your topic I was willing to jump on board and give my own experiences... basically I agree with everyone else. Your journey is YOURS. Try not to compare to others, as everyone is different. Also, I too was going to tell you about the 3 week stall (and 6 week, and 12 week if you are like me). You are losing, and that is a huge positive to look at. Pretty consistent with what everyone else is saying. However, what I really want to comment on now is your above post. Please remember that *YOU* initiated the discussion by posting to an open forum. That means you wanted people to respond to you. You don't get to choose what those responses have to say. You don't have to agree with them, but you did solicit them. If you don't want to hear what people have to say then perhaps you should stick to reading the boards to garner your information and refrain from asking questions of which you might not like the responses. Just my 2 cents. yes. THIS.

    Scale Won't Budge!

Stalls are normal and necessary! We've all worried about them. I had more than average, most likely due to my PCOS, and I was here making similar posts, scared that I would be stuck at whatever weight I was forever. In fact, I have a 2-3 week stall every month, that's just my body's "normal". And yet, here I am less than 9 months later and down 143 pounds since surgery. It all adds up, and worrying about it is just needless and adversely affects your mental and physical health anyway. Just keep up with your Water intake, Protein, and Vitamins, and soon you'll feel silly for ever worrying about this.
  10. After losing 15 lbs in the two weeks post-op (and 0 lbs pre-op because I didn't do a pre-op diet), I have been stalled for going on 10 days. I know it's normal and to be expected...I've googled it, read the message boards, and still stayed awake at night worrying that 15lbs is all I'd get out of this process. BUT, I'm wondering what your experiences have been in terms of how long this lasted, and what (if you can identify anything) broke the stall. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing weight

G'day @@hannaciousp Guess what.. You're normal!!! You're on about week 3... That's when something generally happens... It's called "The 3 Weeks Stall".. There's a post in here somewhere titled "Embrace the Stall".. Find it and have a read... You lose good weight for the first couple of weeks... And then, sh*t gets all outta whack!!! Forget all of your expectations and forget what you've heard others lose... You are YOU... You're gonna be different to everyone else... We each were... The important things to do are keep up your Protein and keep up your Water... Everything will fall in to place... And when you need to, come in here and have a vent... Good luck to you... Let us know how you go...
  12. I will be 3 weeks post-op on Wednesday. My scale hasn't budged in a week and a half. In the first week and a half after surgery I lost 13lbs. I have heard of the 3 week stall but this was only after a week and a half. I am following everything I need to. I meet my protein requirements most days, get all my reccomended vitamins, plenty of water, and I'm walking every day. Has this happened to anyone else. I'm feeling very down and wondering if this is going to work for me.
  13. I skipped the puree stage and just stayed on Protein shakes during that time. I kept reading about the dreaded 3-week stall from many posters. I also see what some of them were eating during the pureed stage and could't help but see a correlation. Too many carbs for what my goals were. I knew there were certainly healthy pureed choices that I could have....but I just was scared to open that door.....yogurt one day may lead me to ice cream the next. lol. I just didn't trust myself enough to go there. I'm simply being honest. If I had it to do all over again.....I'd proceed in the same way as before. That 4 weeks....following the 2 weeks of pre-op Protein Shakes only....that month and a half really helped me cement the changes in how I viewed food. I was done with cravings....done with food as an answer. All I wanted was to burn off as much fat as I could and take in the fuel that my body needed...not what my mind may be compelling it to do. The sleeve is a powerful tool for weight loss.....but I see now that it's only there as a parachute when we lose our willpower. Our minds are the most effective tool we have....but not always in the game, obviously. I do feel that we gain considerable mental toughness as a result of our wls. I'll bet that many of us could take our post-op mental strength......and lose considerable weight without the wls......and keep it off. I really do. It's that toughness and confidence that keeps me grinning all day long.....even when job stress or other stressors conspire to steal a brotha's grin.

    STUCK

Ok everyone. I had about a 3 week stall. Then, all of a sudden-BOOM. I lost 14lbs. Couldn't believe it. So, don't give up and don't get discouraged. I can now eat about 3/4 cup of food 6 weeks out. My vice is Jamba juice smoothies. I drink about 3 oz twice a week. I feel like it's bad because it tastes so good.

    Thyroid

@@csawesome, The doses can be so tricky with surgery and weight loss. I have been on 100mcg since January this year (2016), and for 2-3 weeks after my WLS my Hyper symptoms came back: I couldn't sleep, my pulse started to race again, had bad cramps in my legs .... felt wired but also very tired. I had my levels checked 3 weeks post op, and I did not hear from my Endo, so I thought all was well .... After reading few posts re WLS and thyroid, I realised that my Thyroxine levels were probably too high for a while. I am sleeping much better now, my pulse is back to normal, and I have lost 11kg (24.2 Ibs) so far. Just had my blood work done again, and will see my Endo next week. This is such a learning curve for me, both the recovery from WLS, and the thyroid med symptoms to watch out for. I read on the Australian Thyroid Foundation site, that the best TSH level is at 1.0 Any lower, and some people get the Hyper symptoms, any higher and the weight loss may slow down .... I guess, it is all individual though ..... For me, I just need to keep an eye on any troublesome symptoms re-appearing, or other new ones showing up. I start 8 week post op soon, and will have to wait and see what happens with more weight loss. I certainly don't wish to be awake all night again, and feeling so hyper .... Yes, I had my 3 week stall, that lasted 2 weeks. All OK again, and steadily losing again. Good luck to us all

    Thyroid

I have hypothyroidism. My surgeon just required that it was managed with medication. Only a month out and I have already had to get my medication lowered and my PCP says it will likely be lowered a few more times. I am 19lbs down, so in the middle, but I just finished a long 3 week stall. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

Talked to my doc today cause I had for turn in food journals for other reasons. My 3 week stall lasted for 4 weeks (and begun a week early), then 10lbs came off over 3 weeks and I'm stalled again... Anyway, I asked that since I'm 2 months out and on a regular food diet (yay! No more purréd or soft!)... About the diet, if I'd be able to have even half a glass of wine with friends or anything. He reiterated the very hard NO, and insisted I attend an AA meeting since it's the 2nd or 3rd time I've asked since pre-op. No I'm not an addict, and it's not that big of a deal anymore I guess. It's not that I'm thirsty for a drink necessarily, but knowing I can't have something ever again is messing with my head. (Yet I was fine giving up ice cream, sweets, and 99% of fast food) maybe I do need that AA meeting... Even though I'd drink maybe 3 times a year. Edit: reading this back, damn I'm tired and ADD is running high. Don't care enough to fix the post though. Sent from my iPhone
  19. I went to my nutritionist this afternoon. I'm 17 days post op and down 15.5lbs, but no movement on the scale in days. In spite of everything I've read about the 3 week stall I can't help but get worried. She is a lovely woman--but blunt! She said "Knock it off. Your body will release the weight when it's ready. You will not stay at 228.8 forever. It will come off." Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I would be willing to bet that a good amount of the 20lbs you lost pre-op was Water weight. Most obese people (myself included) lose big the first week or two. Give your body a break. It just went through major surgery. It's still in shock. Search for the 3 weeks stall. Do yourself a favor and stay off the scale. I did so I didn't drive myself crazy. The only time I got on the scale the first 2 months was at post-op appointments. Trust in yourself and the weight will come off. It's not magic you know. You don't miraculously wake up 2 weeks after surgery and lose 100lbs. You said you are hungry - are you taking an acid reducer? Sometimes the stomach acid mimics hunger. It could also be "head hunger" so watch out for that. I wish you luck. Keep doing what your doing and I"m sure you will do well. I was never one of those sleevers who was "full on 2 oz" of food. I can usually eat up to 6 oz with no problems. If it's a really dense Protein then I am satisfied with less. I have to remind myself to EAT SLOWER, it really does make a difference.

    Pre-op appointment on Wednesday

Everything went great! I'm feeling great! Next Tuesday will make 4 weeks since my big day. I think I've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. But I'm not fretting it thus far. As long as I'm not regaining...I'm good! Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  23. If by "this same issue" you mean unrealistic expectations about constant weight loss, yes, lots of people have it, just read the forums here. Okay, seriously, yes virtually everyone stalls for a few weeks starting somewhere between weeks 2 and 4. Just Google "weight loss surgery 3 week stall" or "vsg third week stall" or anything like that. You'll see. And random stalls will continue in your future no matter how well you follow your program. You can't let it freak you out. Stay off the scale if it is going to bother you. Something that will probably NOT continue in your future is losing 38 lbs in 2 weeks -- so don't freak out if that doesn't ever happen again! Good luck.

    Calling all February 1st Sleevers!

I was sleeved Feb 1. I started at 263 and today hit 213, so 50 lbs gone. I focus on proteins, and don't care about counting fat, carbs, or calories (yet). I have had slip ups (a tiny piece of cake, some fritos) and drink a small glass of wine 3 ish days a week. Other than the 3 week stall I have been losing. So if you have a bad meal/day, you can't give up. One bad meal/day won't make you fat, like one salad won't make you skinny! I also do cardio 3-4 days a week and weights once a week. My goal in May is to up the weights to 2-3 days a week and add in a day of yoga.
