  1. I just wanted to add this, and I hope you don't think it's rude or anything. My husband and I had infertility and wound up doing IVF with ICSI. For four years my doctors wouldn't help me, telling me that if I'd just lose weight we'd conceive. Well, I lost a big chunk of weight and we still couldn't get pregnant. Finally, they tested my husband. They assumed that because he's healthy and had other children with his first wife that the issue must be my weight. They were WRONG. He's infertile - he's actually clinically sterile. Once they finally did the analysis on him they said we had a better chance of winning the lottery than we had of getting pregnant on our own. So, all of this to tell you that just because you have to wait a year to have them help you (and that's after you lose the weight) that doesn't mean he can't get checked out now. If the issue is there, then you'll have an easier time getting approved for fertility treatments once you hit your goal weight. Good luck to you! ~Cheri
  2. So, I haven't used birth control of any kind for 7 years, and a lot has changed in that amount of time with what's available. My husband and I have been using condoms since surgery, because while I definitely want another child, I obviously want to wait the 12-18 months or as long as I'm in my losing phase. I went to my gyn doctor today, told her the whole story (she didn't know I was having the surgery, but told me she wouldn't consider doing anything to help my fertility until I lost weight). She gave me the choices of pills, Nuva Ring, or the Depo Provera shot. I really have no idea which would be best for me. Anyone have experience with these? I am kind of leaning toward the shot, because it doesn't have estrogen in it, so there's a lower risk of clots. I don't know why I'm so nervous about that, but I am. Have any of you heard that you should continue to use a barrier method with the chemical birth control. I'm really hoping that's not the case, because condoms are really cramping our spontaneity in bed! :thumbup1: Thanks in advance for any advice you have!

    10 days post surgery

I have been having liquids. Juices, soups, water & protein shake. I don't get why the weight isn't going down. When does the weight starting going down after surgery?
  4. I keep reading the posts, but it is so hard not to step on that scale everyday. I feel like everywhere I go, people are asking. It's only been a little over a month for me and all the weight is just melting off. I know I am just setting myself up for disappointment but I can't help it. I have TWO scales in my house, three if we are counting the one on the WII fit. It's become an obsession.
  5. Hi! I'm having my surgery on March 11th! I'm on day 5 of my 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I'm so excited and anxious at the same time and can't wait for this to be over already! Not going to lie but this liquid diet is BRUTAL the first few days! My doctor actually allowed me to have sugar free Jello and broth as well as a small lean cuisine meal or 3 ounces of food in the evening. This has definitely been quite the journey getting to this point! I'm 5'8 and 305, my height at weight in a long time. I'm 38 and not trying to die before my time. I've been overweight my whole life despite trying EVERYTHING to lose it! I would very much love having more people in my corner who understand what I'm going through and will be going through afterwards! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

why do i do this so much?

How long has this been for. In my past life, the first week of any diet I'd just pee and pee and then pee some more. All that water weight you lose. Perhaps if you've just had a fill, dropped calories markedly you're having a burst of that initial just on a diet water loss again?

    New Year, new us

For once my New Year's resolutions don't just consist of weight loss related items. Nice to know I am already on the right track with that and can focus on other areas I would like to improve.
  8. since you've been sleeved? My husband and I are both getting sleeved in September. We have 3 kids (9,12 & 13). My daughter, the 12 year old, is very athletic (gymnastics, tumble & cheerleader) and has never had a weight problem but both of my sons do have some issues. The youngest is just a tad chunky but my oldest is very heavy. He has started an exercise program at my daughters gymnastic/tumble gym. 3 days a week for the last 2-3 mths (2 nights of crossfit and 1 night they meet at the track and run). So far no real weight loss. He sneaks food sometimes tho. Anyway, just wondering if your whole family benefited from your surgery. Thanks!
  9. I'm starting to worry and worry about this and thought I'd ask the question here for those that have gone through it. How tough was approval from your insurance company? I know all are different but I'm just curious in general how tough it was. BCBSRI requires a 40 BMI or 35 with one of the comorbidities. I'm very close to 40 BMI and actually trying to gain a few pounds to put me over it a bit but I'm unsure whether my Atrial Fibrilation would be seen as 'hypertension.' BCBSRI also said that they want to see that I've been morbidly obese for more than 2 years - which I haven't. Though I've suffered from Afib for at least 5. I do have severe arthritis in my ankle and am on beta blockers, etc. for my afib. They want to see my weight loss failures - so I have my dates from Jenny Craig and WW and from seeing a nutritionist but not anything like Medifast or Optifast. I'm just worrying out loud - and looking for any info folks have to share. Thanks.

    lapband book

I bought Lap band for life a few weeks ago. I found it to be informative - in an infomercial sort of way. A good resource - but seemed like an advertisement. I also ordered WLS for dummies and it outlines all the different types of surgery available - not a ton of specifics on the band. In addition, I ordered The Real Skinny on Weight loss surgery which synopses says that it has the 'real' info on the band. I found that it had VERY LITTLE information on the band and focused on two by pass patients. I ordered Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding : Achieving Permanent Weight Loss in hopes that it will be another good resource. I plan on reselling the WLS for dummies and the Real Skinny book. If anyone knows of any other good books for bandsters - please speak up!!

    Are We Worth It?

I so agree with you and have used the same analogy with the car. How many people drive around in new cars and cant afford the surgery? I am not saying anyone could afford it and this country stinks regarding insurance. They seem to only pay for things after your sick, nothing before. My family watched the show too, who cant enjoy a transformation in 2 hours! As it shows weight loss is only part of the battle. Mental health, life style change and surgery are another part. All we can do is work on it as much as possible. Even if I have to stuff skin in my pants, at least I will be healthier and look normal in clothes. For me, one battle at a time. Thanks for sharing your post. I loved it. Colleen
  13. Last night I watched the show Extreme Weight Loss, and was happy to see that they again included the removal of excess skin as part of the process of this mans journey to the new him. I mentioned it on a WLS site, which started a vocal dialog of people wanting to complete their journey but feeling they couldn't due to restrictions placed on them because of the government or their insurance company. I was surprised, how many people feel stuck in their old skin due to not having insurance. Maybe I didn't feel stuck due to insurance woes since I haven't had any support from insurance along the way, as I was a self pay for my RNY years ago... This got me thinking how much are we worth? I ask this because it took me several years to feel worth spending the money. If insurance would have covered it, I am sure I would have done it sooner, but since I had to pay (my family) it was a whole different story. We don't have extra cash sitting around the house so this was money that could have gone to fixing up the house or buying a new car...All sorts of important uses, then it hit me, if I were to buy a car, it would most likely last 7 years and then we would be in need of replacing it, well if that money went towards me I am planning on lasting more than 7 years! Do I value a car more than myself? No... There are ways to have the surgery without breaking the bank. I know one lady that had all of her surgeries at a Teaching Hospital in NYC for a fraction of the normal cost. I went to Mexico, just 5 miles south of the border in San Diego, which was so simple, I felt safe and close to home and paid about 1/3 of the costs back home. Also there is a company called Credit Care, which finances plastic surgery.... So I urge you, if you want and need plastic surgery to complete your journey please don't give up but do some investigating I am sure you will find a way...You are worth it, you have come so far.....

    Are We Worth It?

I agree with you @@AZDee WE ARE WORTH IT!!! It doesn't matter what it is, WLS or new hair cut or new clothes after we lose our weight we have to do the right thing by ourselves to be happy and healthy. It's not always easy but it is always worth it. My husband and I just signed up for year of personal training and you know...it's EXPENSIVE and yes there may be some plastic surgery needed down the road and you know what we are worth it! We have taken care of our family's our children our parents our jobs and we don't do much in the way of things that take care of "us". So this time we put our health and vitality first and spend the money and booked the trainers, now I just need to rocket fuel to get through the work outs !

    pros and cons of exercise

As always, I couldn't agree more with luluc. I started walking immediately after my surgery. Two weeks out, I started lifting light weights per dr's instructions/permission and increased the amount of weight gradually. I've consistently done 6-7 days a week of cardio and 4 days a week of lifting for almost 13 mos now. I'm almost to goal (5 lbs away:thumbup:). I now have people tell me I am leaning out more than ever before. When I lift, I go at it HARD. I've gone from size 48" waist pants to almost a 36". Shirt size went from a tight 3XL to XL's hanging off me (except through the chest and shoulders:biggrin:). There is no excuse for not incorporating exercise into your lapband plan. Listen to all the people in here and you will succeed. Especially Jachut and luluc for women. They really know what they are talking about.
  16. I'm 5 months post op down 68 pounds down since surgery in the beginning I was killing **** but now I moved in with a Guy who is morbidly a obese and is primarily the one who cooks, I feel I have gone down the slippery slope putting the wrong foods back in my mouth Not necessarily his fault but he knows I had this surgery to change my life and he constantly is cooking bad food, it's like he is afraid of my Pending GLOW-Up luckily I haven't gained any weight but I would love for some suggestion and motivation to help me get back on track !!! Also I would love to know what you guys are eating ?

    I'm a little confused!

My stats are almost identical to yours, only I'm STARVING. I'm scheduled for a fill tomorrow and it can't come fast enough for me. Having said that, I've stayed really close to the same diet as you and I also am only losing 1-2 pounds a week. This past week, I cheated once, went to Carlos Okelly's, had some drinks and chips and small dinner. It took me all week to get that weight gain back off, so for this week, I was ZERO pounds lost. :cursing: Hopefully I won't do that again any time soon. Sounds like you're doiing everything right, but I would'nt cancel that fill too soon. I noticed this past week I got hungrier and hungrier, so you may decide it would benefit you after all.
  18. congrats im 12 days out n down 30lbs! i know the weight loss is crazy right? lol. i kno how ur feelin bout tryin to think positive. i spent 4 nights in the hospital after surgery. 2 more than normal cuz of pnemonia. went home n felt alright. but i was so out of breath the other night i called my doc n he sent me to the hospital. ive been here 2 nights with advanced pnemonia and a liquid/ air pockets near my stomach. deff discouraging but i keep saying my prayers. def a day at a time is the only way to go. sometimes even an hr at a time lol.

1 month post op and kind of struggling

did you explain to your doctor that you were vomiting after eating and that's why you're not getting enough calories in? perhaps you can get a prescription for an anti-nausea medication that will help you. it's so important to get your Protein in, and if you don't eat enough calories, your body will hold on to what it already has and it will negatively impact your weight loss.
  20. Before my sleeve surgery I HATED, DESPISED, LOATHED, anything related to coffee. The taste, the smell, the everything. And even now (16 months after surgery) I still hate it BUT for some unknown reason, I have taken a liking to iced coffee. But in actuality, it's really a sugar bomb. I go to Dunkin and get a small caramel swirl iced coffee with 6 sugars and 6 creamers. WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH???? With that much sugar/cream in it there's really no trace of coffee flavor in it. I can say that I don't ever drink more than half of it, usually only about 1/4-1/3 of it. But it's like my body craves those first few sips. I really need to stop as I'm sure it is stopping the weight loss. I loss 100 lbs in the first 7 months, but then have tossed around the same 6 lbs since January. Tell me I'm not the only one who goes through this crap.
  21. I have not been on this sight in a long time. I just wanted to stop in and see how everyone is doing. I have done good with my weight loss, but honestly I thought It was going to be alot easier than what it has been. It has been a life changing journey, but one that I would do over again in a heart beat! Take Care, Carrie
  22. I think I always told them I was 250, I'm really over 300, should pull mine out and recheck, I don't remember what I put down last December when I renewed. FYI my state (Ohio) requires your height and weight on hunting and fishing licenses. I know because when I worked at WallyWorld I was cross-trained in Sporting Goods and sold many. One guy asked me one day why Ohio wants his height and weight on his license? Told him the only thing I could figure was if somebody shot him it would make it easier to identify the body.[emoji14] Sent from my VS880PP using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pregnant and Lap Band

With both of my pregnancies now (currently almost 10 weeks pregnant) I was only able to keep my 'green zone' fill level in until last week. My body swells when I am pregnant and I get so tight I cannot keep food down. I had half of my Fluid taken out last pregnancy and gained 60 lbs! This time around, I only got 1.5 cc taken out so I can try to maintain some of the weight loss and not gain an excessive amount. I'm using My Fitness Pal again as well to try to keep myself in check. I know there are people who can go through all or most of their pregnancy without getting an unfill and some get it all taken out right away. It really just depends on your surgeon and your body! I wanted to wait longer to get an unfill, but I just couldn't do it!

    Incentive clothing

I hung a really cute tank top on my bedroom door when I was banded 4 1/2 yrs ago, looking at it everyday. By the time I tried it on, it was too big! What a problem to have! Last summer, I looked terrible in tanks. I had gained 30 lbs when my band slipped but I've since lost almost all of that since my revision 9 mths ago. I've bought a few tanks recently and they look almost decent. Still have some rolls (boob fattage) that pop out occasionally, but they look better than they ever have. I think it's a great idea! Have something u can look at everyday and aspire to fit into. Good luck!
