    Christus In Beaumont

Oh boy...I have Dr Dean...and he referred me to Dr Monk...after 2 weeks of trying to get in touch to schedule an appt, I called Dr Deans offc and they gave me her email. I sent her an email myself...a very nice one stressing the importance of getting the eval done as she was the only thing I was waiting on. Well, another week went by with no word so I went out and found someone on my own thru ins to do it. In the meantime, she called and got extremely RUDE with me about 3 weeks after I emailed her. Early in the morning too...so I had a few choice words for her. I come from Ft Worth. Only moved to Beaumont recently. And I have NEVER been spoken to that way by a doctor. So I was shocked, not too happy about it. And not very nice...I sure am glad I didn't have to be evaluated by her... Did either of you have hernias that had to be repaired? Did you have to do an endoscopy prior to surgery? Did the hosp require you to pay the out of pocket max up front??

    Week 3 blues

I am 5 weeks and some days (like today) I still struggle with getting enough food in. On certain days my body just isn't into it and nothing sounds appetizing or I feel full/nauseous after a few bites. My doc told me that if any food stage is a struggle you may not be ready for it and there's nothing wrong with going back to the previous stage for a while.

    Passports

I got mine in February and I'm sure glad I did. One clue to those who haven't. Get your photos done before you to the office where you're having it processed. Have your papers filled out online and printed, in hand. You don't hold up the folks standing in line behind you and pics are cheaper at somewhere like Kinkos than they are at the post office. I think it took about 6 weeks to get mine back in the mail.

    This is a trip!

You are normal. It takes time for us to adjust both mentally and physically. And, stalls are normal. Just stick to you plan. There are lots of topics on stalls, no losing, etc you can search for to read more about it.

    Phentermine?

That's the thing, my plan is super strict. I'm 21 days post op going into my 4th week. Only thing on there is sf. Popsicles, broth, cream soups, decaf coffee and tea. Sf pudding, protein shakes. Water, grits, oatmeal, thin cream of wheat [emoji17] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using BariatricPal mobile app

    Future Bander from Egypt!

Hi Oz! Your age will definitely be an asset for losing weight, and your gender, too. Congratulations on this decision to turn your health around. I am three months out and thirty pounds down so far -- one third of the way to my goal. Know that you will probably experience an excellent initial loss but then there may be a slow time while you get to the right fill, then you'll go down again. Working out will be an excellent aid to weight loss so start exercising as much as possible now or maybe you are doing that already. I think that's the magic ingredient. You are going to do great!
  8. I will be post op 3 weeks on tuesday, i lost about 16lbs the first week post op while on clears, a soon as i advanced my diet to puree, i gained like 3lbs and have been stuck at my +3lb weight for almost a week and a half! Im feeling really discouraged and starting to regret my gastric sleeve decision..
  9. I'm on day 7 of my pre-op (Band goes on tomorrow!) and I was not given a calorie goal, I have been limited to 20 grams of protein per day. (A Carnation SFInstant breakfast with 1% has 13 grams!) Amazingly, I'm OK, and I've lost 19 lbs this week.

    Head hunger

Djmohr, I love all of your advice because all of your post I have read are very helpful. I was hoping that head hunger or mental hunger would get better in time with the surgery. I am in the beginning phase, I have my psych evaluation this week and I plan on inquiring about therapy for the coming year to help with head hunger. That is my biggest fear and concern with me. Newbie

Thanks for responding! My eval is scheduled and I see a new doctor next week. I have been seeing a nutritionist as well. I guess I'm anxious and excited to get this done and over. I just want to be free from "the bulge". Lol!

    No Pre-Op Diet?

I did 2 weeks protein shakes only pre-op. Then 1 mo protein drinks only post-op. Just moved to pureed foods yesterday for 30 days. Then soft foods for 30 days. Finally add all normal food Aug 31. My surgery was May 29th. Sounds like I have a strict team.

I’m 23 days since my sleeve

I'm two weeks out and doing two walks at about a mile each every day. In between, I try to get up and move around for a bit every hour or two, but I don't count steps/distance for those periods.
  14. I feel like I'm following @Creekimp13 around the message board and agreeing with everything she says, LOL. This is what I am doing. I'm at 8,000 steps a day now. I need to add an actual walk to meet this goal. All three of my current paths are 1.3 miles. Two of them are fairly flat and the third is very hilly -- I do the hilly walk every few days. Map My Walk is a great ap if you have a smart phone with GPS. And, get a Fitbit -- I ordered the new Versa and its coming today!
  15. What's your favorite pureed recipe? I have 5 weeks to go. Any new ideas would be great! Thanks in advance. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Workouts!

I'm limited to walking and I'm getting bored with it. My doctor does not clear more until about 4 - 6 weeks post. I will see him 5 weeks post and hope to be cleared then. I have a mini elliptical at home and to be honest, I've very slowly used it, but that was a decision I made for myself. I advise listening to your doc.
  17. I’m almost three weeks post op and I am having the hardest time sleeping. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I keep waking up in the mid of the night- wide awake. I’ve been taking 10mg of Ambien, but even then it doesn’t work for me like it did prior to surgery. Is anyone else having sleep issues and does anyone know why??? I know I’m having pain and have a hard time getting comfortable, but that can’t be the entire reason for this erratic sleep pattern.
  18. Hi! This is my first time posting! I was sleeved May 28 and I am still on the 2 week post-op liquid diet. I am dying to be more active and was wondering if anyone had tempted going to the gym around the same surgery date as me? Thanks
  19. Live in NC and had Dr Tyner out of Cary. My preop diet was hard, 2 weeks, but I lost 15 lbs before the day of surgery. I'm now 4 days post op and in total I have lost 25 lbs. I spent 2 nights in the hospital because of some major reflux, but now I'm only having mild cramps when I sip on liquids. Seems those cramps are normal?? Warm chicken Soup broth my wife made is amazing! Never thought a simple homemade broth could be so satisfying. Was hard to get sleeved right before thanksgiving but I chose that day intentionally because I normally eat waaaaay too much turkey and all the fixings. Ready for this new stage of my life. Healthy and thinner. Glad I found this forum!! Kevin Started at 300 lbs Day of surgery at 285 lbs Nov. 30 at 274 lbs

    Just Got Sleeved 11/26

I just had my sleeve surgery on the 22nd. I have to agree that it was a rough time to have surgery as I mourned the loss of a turkey feast Thanksgiving day... HOWEVER, it was one day and has now passed. I'm still on full liquids, which is getting old but I've only got 4 more days before the puréed part starts. My highest pre op weight was 288 and this morning, 263.6. I'm still feeling a wee bit weak but post op pain is minimal now. I have another week off before going back to work. My sweet husband has done the diet part right along side me so I wouldn't struggle doing it otherwise. As difficult as the beginning part has been, the journey so far has been amazing and we both look forward to a life changing year! I feel incredibly grateful to live in a time where medical advances provide the tools and opportunity for a longer, healthier life, rather than to succumb to the health problems of morbid obesity all too early in life. Lots to look forward to!!?

    New weight loss device

I had not heard about this concept for appetite control, but in a couple of weeks I will be having surgery to have a spinal cord stimulator implanted to help control severe leg pain coming from vertebrae L1-L2. The method is the same as you described. The device emits a signal of its own to interfere with the pain signals the affected nerve is sending to the brain. It is interesting that this process is being explored for appetite control. It would still be surgery. I will have two 4" incisions: one over my spine at L1-L2 and one over my right hip to implant the device in a pocket made under the skin. I am glad that the research is out there for finding options to removing a majority of one's stomach. I am glad to have my sleeve, but this would have been an interesting option, too.

    New weight loss device

I had a neurostimulator in my spine for 10 years and just had it removed in November. Mine was an older device that did not have rechargeable capability and given I had lost over 100lbs it was literally sticking out of my lower back, I got it stuck in the slats of a chair once didn't know it and tried to stand up. Ouch!!! Anyway, I wanted to respond because this device literally gave me back my life. I had severe nerve pain running down my leg following lumbar fusion surgery. We tried everything for 5 years and finally they offered me the neurostimulator solution. The first time we turned it on in the operating room it felt magical. The pain was gone and it felt like tiny littles champagne bubbles running up and down my spine and my leg. They work! It only makes sense that they could somehow use it to resolve the feelings of hunger. I do believe in order for long term success a person would still have to deal with head hunger, cravings and the underlying food addiction issues. I know even days or weeks after my RNY, I had head hunger that would make me want to go eat a cheeseburger. I had to learn how to deal with it. Obviously the same diet and exercise will be important as well right? Very interesting, thanks for sharing.
  23. Hello Everyone! I have been snooping around here for a little while and figured I should post something! I went to the informational seminar in September, had my first meeting with the Doc on 10/31, and finished most of my pre-op testing in one week! I scheduled my surgery for Dec. 10, and I just got the confirmation from insurance that I have been approved. (Only 70% though). I have a blood test today, and the pre-op seminar Weds, and I'm done! I was very nervous in the beginging, but now I'm only excited. I'm worried about missing work and I'm hoping I'll be back in the office on Thurs. (Surgery is Monday) 12/10. What are your thoughts? Does this seem possible? I'm trying not to tell too many people I work with either. Anyways, I look forward to getting to know you all! -Michelle:clap2:
  24. I was afraid that I wouldn't go to sleep - sleeping tablets don't work on me - but had just moved onto the table and thought to myself I'm still wide awake and that was the last thing I remember before waking up in ICU - I have high blood pressure so that kept me there for the night. I am now recovering well but am still really tired - partly due to the anaesthetic and also being on a VLCD for 4 weeks preop. Danna
  25. Hello VST Fam.... I am now leading into my 9th week (yeahhhhh...I'm getting there). Anyway, like everyone else was stating on here, I reached the dreaded 3 weeks stall. My stall lasted for 5 weeks...yikes! But it's true. I tried everything to break my stall, ie. working out more, getting in more Water, getting in more portein, etc. Then, one morning after my workout I stopped in a Krogers. I was craving.....FOR CARBS! So, I bought some Kroger brand French Toast. It has like 16grams of Protein. Only like...230 calories for 2 slices. Still being knew, I didn't know if my tummy could handle bread, but I was willing to try. Sooo, I went home and fixed me 1 slice of toast and 2 slices of turkey bacon. I had plenty of water after I had finished. Showered, got dressed and went on about my day -- monitoring the affects of the bread on my tummy. No side affects, great! Sooo, the next day I did the same thing. By day 3 -- I had dropped 5lbs after a 5 week stall!!! 7lbs in that today week. I had finally broke my stall, and lead myself into ONDERLAND!!! If you are further out (beyond 1month), and you have reached a stall --reintroducing a carb might be the trick. I have literally put carbs back into my diet. I have been exercising like crazy, and wanted to see some results. My body was going into starvation mode! I was loosing inches (and I have created a topic on this.. ), but not loosing lbs.. I personally, needed the lbs. *Note: Someone said to me, lbs are not that important! I informed her, when you are like myself and have high blood pressure, or other ailgments that you might be dealing with -- and you go to your PCP, your doctor doesn't say "Come over here and let me measure you. No! They say, please step on the scale". Soooo, in this case -- lbs are VERY IMPORTANT! Especially, if I ever plan to get off my medicine, permanently. -------------------- Ok enough said! Please, feel free to share your "Stall Breakers". Please tell how long you have stalled and what worked for you to get the scale moving again!!! (Congrats to all of you on all your accomplishments with VSG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
