Look Out! It's the Food Police!

It never ends. I had it happen again today, but at work during lunch, with my co-workers/friends. :hungry: I was having my nice small portion of scrambled egg beaters and started to put a little salt on them. "Can you have that?" I said 'yeah, a little bit'. Then came the pepper. "Can you have that?" I gave the same reponse. Then I wanted a little ketchup. My friend Jason says "Should you be having ketchup with all the sugar that's in it?" 'Yes', and then proceeded to tell him to mind his own eating habits because I'm doing just fine with mine. 'So back off!':omg: I know that partly they are joking, especially since they started calling me skinny. Can we say oxy-moran?! I know they're trying to be supportive, but they're starting to grate my nerves and I've only been back to work for one whole week after a 3 week medical leave.

Look Out! It's the Food Police!

Some people expect you to fail and don't want you to succeed even though they say they do. I was just banded on the 29th and several times since he has asked me if I ate yet knowing I am on only liquids until later this week. Sometimes it can be just a simple case of jealousy, keep your goal in mind and try not to let her get to you.
  3. COrgi, A fill is a very individual thing. My first one was 1.00 and a week later I was bumped up to 1.75. I had no restriction at 1.00. I do not have the swelling issues after a fill that some people talk about. I always test with a bowl of thick Soup. If this goes down OK, then I try a mushy food and then a solid by the end of the day. My doc only requires that I go the rest of the day on liquids or mushies. Sounds like you might be too tight though. Babs in TX
  4. This last fill I had was VERY tight. I could not eat anything for about a week, just clear liquids, then I went to mushies for a couple of days, then on to solids, and still not much. Kind of like a "mini starting over".
  5. My 13yr old aughter had a dance coming up. So,I bought her a dress, size 14 miss. About a week later, before the dance, she went into a different store and came across the perfect dress for her. because the first dress was on clearance for only 25 dollars I bought her the second dress. just outta curiosity I decided to try on the 1st dress. btw I thought it was gorgeous! I was stunned, emotionally overwhelmed, thrilled and shocked to discover that the dress not only fits but it's actually big around my waist section. Yay mama got a new dress! I will post a picture when I get a chance I just had to share this with you all immediately!!

    30 Day Challenge Accountability Thread

Awesome and YES!!! Beans will be a staple for me too in the coming weeks. Whoohooo!!! Only a bit over one day to go!!!
  7. I had my second meeting with my dietician. I lost a total of 1.5 pounds in a month!!!!!I've exercised, changed alot of my eating habits, I'm hungry most of the time, I've given up caffeine since May 12 and I have choclate only once a week now. Granted, my portions were a bit over, I tend to go over one serving of Protein or bread- but that is alot better. We discussed what I need to do and such but ....still!:):smash: Thanks for letting me vent. I will do better on the program because ain't nothing going to get in my way from haing this surgery!!!!:amen:

    unsupport from my boss...need advice.

I hate this woman for doing that to you. I have learned a hard lesson so I wil pass on some words of wisdom. I was so excited to be having surgery that I told most of my friends and family. Big mistake:frown:. My husband and my mother are very supportive, but the rest call me a cheater and act like I have no self control. I only told one person at work beside the HR director that I was having the surgery. If I could I would some how erase the HR director's memory. She wanted me to tell my boss, but I knew better. My boss can be vengeful and would have held it against me. I took one week off of work and ever since have claimed to have Gall Bladder problems. Maybe you should tell her you changed your mind and have the surgery without her knowledge. By law you do not have to tell her. I have had so much negative feedback from people who know about the surgery, that if I had it to do over again, I would have only told my husband and Mother. Getting the band was the best thing I have done in a long time despite negative small minded people. If need be you may have to go over her head and file a grievance. Hang in there and keep posting. You will find many allies here. JP
  9. been havin such a hard time with my boss lately. she used to be a friend, but she just never was good to me and i had enough. so for about a yr now i've disstanced myself from her. she's my boss so i have to talk to her, but my jobs pretty free where i can go a few days without having to see or talk to her. she's delusional and still calls me a friend. well, with that being said, she thinks she can put inputs about my decisions on a personal level. i informed her last month that i would be getting lap band in february and will need to take a week off. she then said something so shocking that i wanted to clock her... ..she told me i was going to die from the surgery. now it didnt scare me. but i was shocked that any kind of person would tell someone before surgery that. she then proceeded to call it the "death surgery". i was annoyed, but not scared. she's crazy. and i've never hated somebody so much before in my life. ..then today, she said it to me again, told me i was going to die and she would not be attending my funeral. i just lost it, i let her break me. i burst into tears because of fustration and shock that someone would say these things. i dont know if she just doesnt want me to get it, or she's trying to make me break down. either way..she's really low. now dont get me wrong. im not scared by any means, i know things can go wrong, but im pretty confident and am not worried or scared. my question is, she is a personnel manager, so shes in human resources..now i dont think this is right to talk to people like this being in human resources. is anyone out here in human resources? if so, or if anyone has any knowledge about it, is there something or anything i could do? she needs to know she cant talk to people like that, but i just dont know if theres any rules. any help would be appreciated. and thanks for listening to my rant.

    Question for Post Ops!

This may be weird but I think my gas smells way better than it did before surgery lol. Idk if it's because of the change in foods that I eat or what. I burp alot as well. I had hiccups for the first time surgery a couple weeks ago and that was weird and hurt.
  11. My cardiologist looked at me and said, "You did not pass the test". Honestly, I thought he was kidding and then it hit me they don't joke about things like that! Now, I had been at my PCP on Monday. These results had been faxed to him last week and he never mentioned it. He spent maybe 10 minutes with me, most of which was composing the letter of clearance on his laptop. WTF are these guys good for anyway????? So, now I will be scheduled for an angiogram early next week. There is a 10% chance he will find nothing. It may be taken care of with a stent. If things are really bad, there will be open heart surgery. So, no WLS for me for the time being. Wonder how long my insurance authorization is for. Major, major bummer.....

    Post-Fill Protocol

You should contact your doctor because they are all different. My doctors orders 1 week of liquid, 1 week of mushies, and 1 week of soft stuff after a fill. Yes I know, it sounds strict. But I do as he instructs because I am guessing he knows what he is talking about.

    BMI over 50

I started my journey at a BMI of 53. I went to orientation and that day they took all my info to submit for approval. I woukd talk to your doctor about the weight loss and if going below the 50 will affect getting ur surgery right away. I didnt have to wait either. Why is your doctor holding off on applying for so long? If your BMI is so high you would think theyd want to help you as soon as possible. I applied the first week of Oct and had surgery Dec 18th. I have lost 127 to date. Its only been a little more than 8 months. Best option is to ask your doctor what his suggestion would be but dont go sabotaging yourself to stay. If anything just maintain where u are. Good luck and let me know how your doing.

    Getting Banded Friday!!

Good for you. Life will only get better. I was banded 2 months ago and it was a breeze. i am down 30 lbs and go to the gym 5 days a week. My biggest complaint right after surgery was the gas, but no biggie. My first fill will be Fri. and I am hoping it will help with my hunger. I chose to not get a fill the first month and work on changing my mindset but 900 cals a day is tough with no restriction but I am doing it. It is kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy, the more you lose the easier it is to give up the food because you see results and then you want to move more and so on. The bills are now coming in and that is a pain but worth every penny. Best of luck and keep us posted.
  16. Has anyone worn one of these after surgery or heard anything about it. I looked through the posts and saw that people used them after PS but not too much on after the band. Well I have one and I put it on (almost 4 weeks post op) and it seems to be helping my port pain and residual soreness. Do you think there would be any reason *NOT* to wear it??

    Exercise

I've always been good at running, even though I hate it, but love the way I feel when I am done. I go to the gym at least five times a week since my surgery on 11/1 and I work with a trainer for two of those days. When I do cardio, I have to at least do 45 mins of whatever (bike, treadmill, stair climber) to notice a difference on the scale. I have a very strong lower body, and my legs tone faster than the rest of my body. Last year, I wanted to train for the marine corps marathon but I developed a foot injury...so I am hoping I can at least do half a marathon sometime next year if I start now and train well non stop...

    From There to Here

I've been thinking about Weight Loss Surgery for a long time, but could not seriously pursue it until my husband concurred, which was last fall. We attended an informational seminar in Palm Springs CA over the winter and began looking for a surgeon then. We were in CA for the winter, but moving to WA state at the end of April. My medical insurance is Medicare/Tricare for Life, so I had to use a "Center of Excellence". I was able to make an appointment with Dr. Jeffrey Hunter at Virginia Mason Clinic in Federal Way WA. We met with him on May 3, 2007 and he thoroughly discussed the pros and cons of both bypass and lapband surgery. He told me that he would want me to lose 10% of my body weight prior to surgery. I weighed in at 325 that day. I started a 1000-1200 calorie diet the next day. I lost about 2 lb. a week for the first three weeks. Then the weight loss stalled and so did my enthusiasm. In a short time, I had regained the 7 lb. I was supposed to have a second appointment with Dr. Hunter in early June, but his nurse, Stephen called me early that week and told me that I didn't need to come in until I'd lost the weight. So the next day I started on a 350-500 calorie diet. Its been three weeks and I've now lost 20 lb. Last week, after several phone calls to report my weight loss thus far, Stephen called me back with a surgery date of July 20. I will have to go in about 10 days prior to that for pre-op appointments with Dr. Hunter, the dietician and the anesthesia department. :ranger:
  19. You are fine! It takes a long time of bad eating habits to stretch your pouch and you sound like you are doing just fine! Remember if you had the sleeve it is the size of a small banana and can hold what you ate...I am 3 weeks out and struggling with no hunger and getting food in so I congratulate you!! If you over eat believe me your pouch will be telling you! Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

Post Lap Band Surgery Op Pain

Unforunately what you are experincing is normal. There are going to be days after you are months post op that your port is going to hurt. You can laugh on minute and make your port hurt. It takes your body up to 6 weeks or longer to heal. Just take it one day at a time. I was in HELL for the first ten days I am one of those individuals who get with because of the anesthia. Once I removed the patch behind my ear it was horrible. I got motion sickness from riding in teh car. I am going to say even with that. and having my stoma because stuck with food. I would do this all over again. I wish I would have done this sooner.. I promise its soo freaking worth it later down the road. just concentrate on healing..
  21. Sorry about the length of this one. The week is coming to an end and I think I may have found a ounce of hope hidden behind my heart. My grandkids have been very concerned with grandma and worried because I was crying alot. So last night my 4 year granddaughter came to me and said to me please don't cry anymore I will happy you find hope it will be okay. To tell you the truth she made me cry even more. Then she gets her brothers and tells them that I am crying because I lost my hope and the 5 year old tell her and the 6 year old that I didn't lose hope because she was in school yesterday. I started to laugh and the 6 year old tells them that they should come to my room and tell me that I could have some of their hope, and again I started to cry. So I step back away from the door and thought about what they were talking about and about an hour later while we sat to eat dinner they asked if they could give me something to make me feel better and I told them yes to my surprise they handed me a little bottle fill with glitter it had three colors. While everyone watch them the 6 year year old said, " Because you show us so much love and caring we want you to stop crying and give you some of our hope. My color is silver, I.O.'s color is gold and nena's color is purple." We love you grandma. There was not a dry eye at the table. My friend says to me I see you rubbed off on them. Because I have a few of those bottles too. With that I went to bed thinking about what to do, so I said in the morning I will stop the crying and take some actions. I email the neuro doctor and told him what happen and stated that we need to do something about my ICS in the brain so I could get the surgery. He called me and we spoke he stated that I was okay to have the surgery and why didn't I have the anesthiologist he requested to assisted the surgeon. He then called the doctor and told him that the ICS is in the brain and they don't do anything for it at this stage and please use the anesthiologist he recommened to assist because he is know the case and how to handle it. So I will be a May sleever. I will continue the high Protein diet because since monday I have not been able to really eat much.

    Fills????

1/4 cup seems like a really small amount of food. I was banded on Feb 3rd and my Dr. had me on solids about three weeks out. Went for first fill yesterday and he put in 3cc. I could not get water down. Felt pressure in my chest and started getting the hiccups really bad. He took out some of the fill and the pressure in my chest left and the hiccups stopped almost immediately. I have lost almost 30 lbs since surgery eating a 1/2 cup to 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Not a snack person or grazer. I was really surprised I could not tolerate the 3cc. Don't know how much he took out, forgot to ask. I think if you are doing fine without a fill, don't see any reason to get one!

    From the mouths of babes...

Yeah for you! I bet that just made your week!
  24. Hello all, I am new to the board, not getting banded until April 2010, but am already starting to stress about details! My family is supportive of my journey, but I've made the decision to keep the surgery private from my work. I work in a medical office with approximately 30 staff members. I will be taking a week off from work to recover from the surgery. My surgeon's post op diet plan requires 3 weeks of liquids followed by 3 weeks of mushies. The idea of this doesn't exactly bother me but I'm wondering how obvious this will look to everyone around me - we usually all eat lunch in one big lunchroom together. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to remain discreet while on a liquid diet? I think I have some ideas how to make mushies look less obvious, but I have no idea how I'm going to explain away 2 oz of Protein shake every 2 hrs. Suggestions? Help! Natalie HW/CW/GW 235/210/140
  25. Hi, Surgery was on 9/1/04 and am waiting for first fill @ 6 weeks. Whenever I try to eat anything past full liquids I get a strong cramp/ache/burn in upper stomach. Is this normal? It HURTS. What is it? Has anyone else out there had this? I've only lost one pound since surgery. Any thoughts?
