  1. Anyone lap band revision to sleeve? How much was ur starting weight before lap band and sleeve? How much did u loose with each? How long has it been sence surgery? Are I maintaining? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I'm to be sleeved in 7 days, lost over 100 pounds with the lap band till it slipped and has a hole in it.
  2. Vicki, YES, let's definitely stay in touch and help each other along this journey. We seem to be starting out around the same BMI as well. I am glad you responded. I have not been able to find much info online for vsg to rny revisions and the success rate or anything. Why are you getting your revision, is it because of inadequate weight loss or because of a complication? I do have the acid reflux but more than anything I am hoping that this will help me lose the other 1/2 of my fat. I was worried that since I already had a surgery that this wouldn't be much different for weight loss. I don't know. I will PM you my email.

    AZ United Health Care

I was in the process in Cali with kaiser to get the lap band, but for job reasons I moved to AZ and they do not have Kaiser here. So, I called United Health Care of AZ and they said that because my bmi isn't at 40 (my bmi is 37) and I do not have diabetes or high cholesterol, I do not qualify for the surgery. I do however have PCOS. Which puts me at high risk for diabetes and heart disease. . I asked the lady and said, so I can gain 5-10 lbs and be at a 40 bmi and or have diabetes and so forth before you will help me? No preventive steps? Doesn't make sense. I called a dr right after to set up an appointment to see if they can help me with getting this done. I don't want to be unhealthy before I get this surgery. Doesn't make sense to me. United Health Care needs to revise theirs qualifications. On that note, I have an apt next week. Wish me luck.
  4. I am in the process of waiting for insurance approval for my band to bypass revision, but it is highly unlikely that I will be approved. I am trying to wrap my head around the possibility of paying for this out of pocket, and was wondering what type of medical requirements there are for self pay patients. I'm sure my doctor will fill me in when the time comes, but for now, those of you who were self pay, could you tell me if there was any special diet or other requirements your surgeon had you meet before surgery? Thanks so much!
  5. Does anyone know if we are going from band to sleeve revision if we have to go through the 2 week liquid diet? Sent from my SM-G930R4 using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. The Candidate

    Met my weight loss goal!

I'm still in the losing stage, only 13 weeks out, so no advice to share. I just wanted to say congrats on reaching goal after revision surgery. You definitely have a lot to be proud of, and kudos for the hard work!
  7. I had my first band placed in me in 2008. It slipped after I lost 85 pounds and was crawling into a kayak on vacation. My band was pretty messed up so the doctors decided they couldn't replace it when they took it out. I waited 4 months and decided I could not stand gaining weight. So I had a new band in November 2009. Since then I have not had much success in losing any more weight. I just lost 14 pounds a few months ago and then I just gained 5 pounds! My doctor today told me that she thought my band was not working for me and would I be open to a revision and getting the sleeve? I am still trying to decide whether or not to go with it or not. My biggest fear is the pain after the surgery. The thought of having my stomach sliced up and stapled back together gives me the shivers. I am also wondering what damage my band did to my stomach. What if the band has attached itself to my stomach? I had two bands put in and one taken out and I thought it was basically pain free. I didn't take pain meds when I got home from the hospital and I was in for only 24 hours. I have enjoyed reading the posts related to former banders. It sounds so much better than having to deal with food getting stuck! I could not find the "sweet spot" in my second band. I was either too tight or little or no restriction. My first band was a dream because I found my "sweet spot" but having the second band didn't work that way. I appreciate all your feedback and your experiences. It will help me decide to go forward with the sleeve. I have been told today that Blue Cross PPO will cover it. My next step is to schedule the psychiatric evaluation. Talked it over with my husband and mom tonight and both were very supportive. They know I struggle with my weight. My doctor today told me I will probably have the weight battle all my life and the sleeve may be my answer to get under 200 pounds. I am also interested in the recovery time after the surgery. With the band, I was in the hospital overnight. I think I was off work a week with the first band and only a couple of days with the second band. The second time around I realized how easy it was. I made too much out of it the first time around.

Considering Vsg A Year After Band Removed....

I have been researching VSG revision for about a yr. now. I still have my band, but would have it removed immediately if I could afford it. Everyone that I know that revised from band to VSG is sooooooo much happier with VSG!!!
  9. I know, it's weird--I thought it was some sort of deformity at first, was all set to call my surgeon and ask him what-the-heck-kind-of-alien-device-he'd-inserted-as-an-experiment... Heehee. Seriously though...I've been wearing size 10 for the last month-and-some, and I'll be into size 8 jeans by mid-December. I actually LOST weight over Thanksgiving!!! It's been almost 5 months post-op. And I'm starting to think I might have to revise my target weight upward. If I hit 130, I'm honest-to-god going to look like a coat-hanger. I'm thinking that 140 is a good goal for someone of my height and build.
  10. @Kawkab if you have acid reflux now, it "probably" will continue PO. (maybe worse feelings) if you never had reflux problems you might still get reflux PO sleeve some peep that have the sleeve, then major heartburn - will get a revision to gastric bypass i had the sleeve, no probs with heartburn IMO i agree with surgeon - i would have the bypass over the sleeve any day of the week and twice on sundays!! good luck with your decision kathy
  11. I haven't had it happen personally but I have heard it happen to others. Did the doc attempt to use a fluoroscope? My doctor's office used it to locate my port's exact position so they didnt have to prick me more than once after I had a revision surgery and was still sore in the abdomen.

    Pouch

From someone who knows: Yes, over eating WILL stretch the pouch. It will stretch over time anyway and if you keep doing it, by grazing or over eating at a meal, it can and will stretch more. Yes, you can eat more, but the hope is that you've learned to eat only what you need; which is less than what we ate before. But if you're silly, like me, you over eat and end up having a revision. It's a tool; not a cure. An upper GI will show the pouch size, as would an endoscopy. You'd have to have a medical reason and Dr. order for either of these and it wouldn't be done solely to see the size.
  13. Okay people. I need some recommendations. In Dec 2017 I had the sleeve and Feb 2018 I was converted to the Bypass due to complications. I’m down about 65 lbs. After the healing stages I had SO much energy and felt great, I was hitting the gym, etc.. The past few weeks I’m exhausted. All I want to do is sleep and when I’m not sleeping my eyes burn from being so tired. I take multivitamins, vitamin D, B12 (liquid), iron, and biotin every day. I tried to incorporate Zinc for hair loss, but it makes me sick. Oh, and I do get my protein in everyday. I just had blood work and nothing is low except RBW and BUN/creatitine. Is there anything else I can do to help? Is there a magical supplement out there that will aid in increasing my energy? Being able to function at work and at home would be great. Any help would be nice, thanks! Height 5’6 HW - 275 SW - 265 CW - 194 GW - 150ish Sleeved 12/14/17 Revision to bypass due to complications 2/13/18
  14. I'm getting my band out on Dec 22 due to having complications. I ended up going to a different bariatric doctor because the doctor who placed the band never un-fill me when I would see him. I had constant acid reflux for a couple of years, no matter what time of the day it was and whether I ate or not. I complained to my primary care doctor and he gave me Nexium. That still didn't work and I wasn't sleeping. I finally told my doctor that I wanted further tests because I was scared of getting cancer of the esophagus front the acid. He finally mentioned that there was a bariatric center in my town (that I wasn't aware of) and referred me. I got an appointment where the doctor unfilled me and and then I went back every couple of weeks to try and get my fill right. The acid reflux subsided while I was unfilled but I started get spasms in my esophagus more frequently. I am now getting the band removed on Tuesday and the doctor expects there to be scar tissue, which he will remove. I hope to get a revision to RNY in February or March depending on what I look like inside. I'm afraid that i will be so messed up that he will not recommend I get it done. I loved my band because it helped me lose 100#. I was never able to get all of my weight off and have since gained 40#. I wish I wouldn't have been so afraid to the the RNY done in the first place. I just hope my insurance will approve the new procedure.

    10 days pre-op. Advice?

Hi John, I certainly am not a vet to the sleeve but had a band for over 6 years which is probably longer than most here with the sleeve. I am 3 days post-op. Surgery was Friday 10/25. So far I have had some pain but nothing that pain meds didn't take care of. One bout of nausea but got a shot and it was over as quickly as it began. I have not had gas pains, I had a lap band and port removed and the sleeve performed in one procedure. My surgery took two hours. I am very fortunate and hope to have a smooth recovery. I had a catheter for the 1st day and also had a jp drain which was taken out before I left the hospital. These were only because I was a revision patient, but different doctors do different things. Do what your doctor says follow the diet and you should be good. Good luck. I'm sure you'll do fine.
  16. I am finally feeling like myself again. I was expecting to recover much quicker than I did. My revision surgery was done 9.17.20 and I was so uncomfortable and in pain. Now I can sleep on my side (with pillows, I'm a belly sleeper and this is a struggle lol), the Omerparzole has helped so far with GERD, and I can stand and walk for longer periods. I have been doing good on staying hydrated and continue to work on my eating habits and meeting my protein goal (120g). The Premier Protein water taste like chalky cough syrup, as I thought this would be a hack to meet my goal and the unflavored powders do have flavor if that makes sense lol. I can finally bend down and tie my shoes (but it has to be quick lol). The weight loss is slower this time around as we all know with revision but my main focus is my eating habits, exercise, and mental health. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. I'm holding my breath for a revision to Wellmark's policy sometime soon....I am in IA and I hear about surrounding states getting approval for the sleeve through BCBS. Anyone have any inside info? Thanks.....
  18. Hi Everyone, I found out about this site from Obesity Help, and hopefully with all the wisdom on this site regarding the lapband ( one word or two please!) I can get excelent help and resonable advice. :scared2: I had a RNY done in 2000 at Baratric Treatment Center, a wonderful place but not a real success for me. Let me begin by saying I had a RNY done in Feb 2000 my initial weight was 235 lbs, I am 5'2" tall and my overall weight loss was 55 pounds. Currently I weigh 215.5 with a BMI of 38.5 so you do the math. I am real depressed and I feel like such a failure. After reading on Obesity Help that revisions were possible (Baratric told me it was something I had done wrong and refused to answer my calls, and insisted that if I had regained weight it had to be my problem and not their procedure!) After reading many post on Obesity Help I finally found an excellent surgeon with the Kane Center here in IL, who explained to me that not only were revisions possible but they had done numerous of them. The Dr also explained that the procedure used was an older procdedure because they did all or most of the suturing by hand, and that could actually allow the stoma to stretch much quicker. Now here is my question, because I have had a hernia repair along with an open RNY my new Dr. strongly suggest the LapBand. I am not sure if this is what I should do. I have read of so many people having problems, not losing weight, bands slipping and to be truthful I am really afraid. If there are a few people who have had revisions from RNY to LapBand and sucessful lapbanders ( is this a word!), out there, would you please let me know why you chose the LapBand, why you feel it was the best choice for you, how you had success with it and what I could expect? I realize that there are those who don't like this procedure, but right now I need to hear positive feedback, and who is better to give it than those who have experienced it! I trust my Dr. but I am confused. At my age (53) I don't want to go through this anymore. Any comments, questions, prayers, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Just got the okay from Kaiser to have WLS. They want to do the RNY bypass instead of the sleeve because of the success rate with keeping the weight off long term. They also said that because my weakness is sugar, it would be better at keeping me on track... I'm guessing because of the dumping that people experience after eating sugary foods. I was hoping not to mess with my intestines and keep my plumbing intact, but I also don't want to have the sleeve and end up having to get that revised into the RNY because it isn't working for me long term. Has anyone else here had their DR. tell them something like this?? Kaiser said they only do sleeves on a few select patients.

    I'm new here

Hi. I'm Angie! I am about six months out from my sleeve and I couldn't be happier. Before my surgery I weighed in at 268 lbs (I'm 5ft 6in) and was miserable! I couldn't even walk upstairs to tuck my kids in without being short of breath and having to stop half way up and I'm only 27!!! I am an RN and work 12 hour shifts on my feet, so the extra weight was not my friend. I developed really bad edema to my feet and legs (I was taking 60mg Lasix three times a day and it wasn't helping!). I was using a CPAP for my sleep apnea and was hypertensive and my Dr kept warning me about my cardio risk b/c our my family hx. I also have PCOS and insulin resistance. Fun Fun, right? NOT! My Mom has had a gastric bypass w/ 2 revisions and now has a band over her bypass and is finally losing weight. My Dad has a bypass and has lost 160 lbs, my Step-Mom has a bypass and has lost 120 lbs. So I thought I would get a bypass, but then my cousin got a sleeve. I had never even heard of it before, but once he told me more, I was definately very interested. So I did some homework and decided on a sleeve. I got my sleeve in Jan by Dr. Umbach in Las Vegas and I am so pleased with their office. They are fantastic and I have already recommended them to several of my friends. So now, six months out, I have normal blood pressure, no swelling in my legs and feet (even after four 12s in a row), no more CPAP, am down 55 lbs and went from a size 22 to a size 16!! :001_tt1::001_tt1: My issues w/ low blood sugar are gone and my PCOS symptoms are pretty much history. So I'm on very happy girl! I'm most happy about setting a good example for my kids and helping to break the chain of obesity that has gripped our family for 3 generations (at least)!!
  21. I had a circumferential tummy tuck in September of 2011. At the time the doctor had suggested a fluer de lis tummy tuck but I was opposed to it give the potential scarring. Five months latter I am considering have the circumferential revised to a fluer de lis to deal with the sagging middle stomach, as I am still unhappy with the results. Anyone have one? What are your scars like? Are you happy with the results? Thanks
  22. I have my sugery tommorow and I was told I would be put bck on liquids for a few weeks. At this point, I just want it fixed and over with. Am glad your getting another opinion, strecting it won't help, you need a revision surgery ASAP!

Does it pay for revision surgery to RNY
  24. I am in the same dilemma as you. I am between Garcia and Aceves since they seem to have most experience in revision surgery. I will have to save a little longer if I go with Aceves and I am ready to get this done! But I also want to make sure I make the right decision on what dr I choose.
  25. I’m so sorry. I went through this too but I didn’t have the lap band. but your surgeon should have told you the sleeve only makes the reflux worse. My surgeon did and suggested a revision to bypass instead because of my severe GERD.
