  1. So, I've been between 248 and 238 for the last year. Even with fills and extra exercise I can't seem to get past 235. Which is a painful reminder of my ridiculous struggle with weight loss in high school...couldn't get past 235 then either. Right now I'm at 245. Trying to stay optimistic, since I've already lost over 80lbs, but I'm still looking in the mirror after my run and can't help but cry. I'm so frustrated. I'm only half way to my goal, and it feels like I've been losing the same 10lbs. over and over again. Any suggestions?
  2. Andrea Are you full after you eat a WW meal?? When you say breadstick are you talking about the ones that are like pretzels or the kind from olive garden (real bread) how much salad did you eat and what kind of dressing. How may calories are you consuming in a day?? For me personally - I want to eat more than 1/4 or 1/2 cup per meal - IMHO eating only 1/2 cup 3 x day is not healthy. This is a lifetime lifestyle change in our eating - its the combination of eating healthy (low fat - low sugar) and the restriction the band provides by making you feel fuller on a smaller quantity of food and adding exercise into your life. Weight loss is all about calories in vs calories burned - if you are consuming more than you are burning then the weight isn't going to come off. You say cuz you have done so well in the last 9 days that you ate 2 breadstick & salad - was this a reward for doing so good. There are theories out that that your body goes into starvation mode if you don't get enough calories - I am not a nutritionist or scientist - so I can't debate that - but for me if I vary my calories - say 950 today and 1100 tomorrow and 1000 the next day - I do ok. I keep a food diary and track my calories and Protein grams and log my exercise - again which has been a very big part in my success too. I have been truly bless cuz I have had a lost every week since I started this journey (well except for 1 and I didn't gain stay even) Suggest - write down what you are eating - the amounts and calories and then total them every night - do that for a week and go back to exercising and see if it helps get the ball rolling again. Good Luck..
  3. I had my band removed a few weeks ago due to slippage. I fell out of a kayak in Kauai on vacation and when I climbed back in, my band slipped! I thought I broke a rib. My stomach was too swollen to have a new band put on. My doctors seem to be confident that I can not only maintain my weight loss but lose more weight. I've lost 85 pounds so far but would like to lose more. I am very interested to see the responses to your post. I am still keeping the option open of having the band placed in me once again. I have not heard of this new band and am interested in finding out about it. I have read about having the band inserted through the mouth rather than through the stomach with the 5 or 6 incisions. I don't know how many people have had this procedure and would be interested if there is anyone out there that has had the band placed through the mouth. I would be curious to know why you think you need another band. You appear to have tremendous success in maintaining your weight loss. Did your appetite increase and cravings return? My stomach is still swollen so I do not have much of an appetite or cavings. I am fearful of what will happen when my swollen stomach goes back to its natural state. I've made HUGE changes in the way I eat, exercising, etc. The band was a powerful too and sometimes I think its still there.

    Exclusion of Service?

I have worked in insurance pre-authorizations before and I agree that if your employer has chosen to exclude weight loss procedures; you won't get anywhere with an appeal. The reason is your employer does not want any exceptions or they have look at them for everyone. Not encouraging news I know. . My insurance also wouldn't cover so my procedure was done with self pay. It is worth ever penny to me! Ask your surgeon's office if they have any financing options. Good luck!
  5. I've been in a 2 month stall and I don't understand it. I am following by my doctors food regimen but no weight loss. My doctor told me to switch up on my lifestyle change, such as instead of no exercising begin to do so..and I did...!. Just to give you some history. Before surgery I weighed 227 lbs on July 12, 2011 and now today, I am 172 lbs....but I havent lost anymore weight in 2 mos. During all of my weight loss, I did no exercising at all, so my doctor suggested I try working out. For 1 month, I do 1 hr of cardio, such as elliptical, running, treadmill..and etc, and light weight training...still noooo weight loss. I have tried everything ..protein drinks, watching what I eat...can someone give me an explanation. I'M VERY THANKFUL FOR 55LBS OFF..But is this the end of my weight loss??? CHANEL

    GOALS!

See the scale number without pushing my stomach in to see! Shave my 'bikini line' without just feeling around to do it... I'd like to see what's going on again! Get on my horse without feeling like it takes an act of God, a good mounting block, and a few more prayers! Have energy to actually get out and do things that I want to do... I am tired of it hurting to walk around a festival or park. Be able to buy an outfit in the boutique where I get my hair cut... these clothes are SO STINKING CUTE! I want to wear them! I could go on... LOL!

    I could be an airplane....

I have them too. & mine have also gotten worse since the challenge. Seems like I found some exercises to combat flabby arms on the prevention.com website. Maybe it's the fast weight loss? I dunno, but it sucks!
  8. The only pain I had was the left shoulder pain. It lasted for 3 days... a heating pad really helped and walking. Extra Strength Advil did the trick for the pain. Tom, Toronto Banded July 6 06 Wt. Loss: 160 lbs

    I need help :(

First of all, congrats on your weight loss! That's amazing! You should be very proud of yourself! Unfortunately, none of us can count on the sleeve to always do the work for us. Sure, we help it along by eating right and exercising, but weight loss is still pretty easy during the honeymoon period where restriction is good and hunger is relatively low. You may be past the honeymoon period at this point. Time to really start buckling down and weigh and measure your food and stop when you're finished, whether full or not. Protien first, veggies second. No carbs or low carb until you start losing steadily again or get close maintenence. I too have noticed I can eat a lot more at this point and it pisses me off, lol. But I also know it's time for me to really crack down and pay attention to how much I'm eating at this point, or I will never reach my goal. It sucks, but it's just the progression of the sleeve. Like I said, that's why they call it "The Honeymoon Period". Good luck! You can do this! You've done amazing already!

    Anthem BCBS Appeal

I did not have sleep apnea... yet. Had a study done about 10 years ago that was "inconclusive". I was not required to attend NUT classes, but our Bariatric Care Center offers free twice-monthly support group meetings with the staff Nutritionist and monthly info mtgs with the surgeon. I voluntarily attended these for almost a year, just to learn as much as I could. At the end of the 6 mo dr-supervised wt loss requirement, BCBS issued a "certification" that was valid for 13 months. Complex sleep apnea

Do any of the post op sleevers have complex sleep apnea? How did/does your weight loss affect your treatment? Have you had your machine adjusted? Has anyone had a follow up sleep study? My Dr said losing weight might resolve the obstructive part of my sleep apnea but the central part might never resolve. I am interested to hear if anyone else had weightloss resolve both parts of their complex sleep apnea.
  13. Hi Denmark, Cogratulations on the weight loss.:clap2: Welcome to Lapbandtalk. I am from Australia. Make sure you Danes take care of our Princess Mary! LOL:biggrin1: Susannah
  14. Hi everyone! I had my lap band surgery on 3/12/07 it is just a little over a month and i've lost 28 lbs. This is the BEST thing I've ever done. Why didn't I do it sooner. I go next week for my first fill. Anyone have any suggestions or anything? Also, I'm new here and how do I add my weight loss ticker to my messages??? Have a great day everyone and keep on losing!:clap2:
  15. Hiya, please don't be discouraged. Everyone's experience with the band is different some people lose everything they want in months. I've lost 75lbs in nearly 3 years and that is really slow loss compared to people on here but for my own personal view I feel great! Since having the band I've, on the whole, lost weight. I've stayed the same a long time but not put on more than 2-3 lbs max and that is for the first time in my life that I can remember. I used to sniff food and put on weight lol. I didn't exercise for a long time because I wasn't ready but now I go regularly and enjoy it. Don't put yourself under any pressure, it is a hard adjustment for you mentally and physically. Give yourself a chance - reading on this site can help too. Think of it as a long term investment and just focus on small goals at first. You've lost 16lb since May - in your pre-band life how long would it take you to lose that? I know for me it would take ages and then 3 months later I would have put 8lbs back on. You're doing fine. Good luck!
  16. Great point but my doctor has told me that the Water I use in my Protein drinks counts towards my daily minimum of 64 oz of water. that being said, I drank about 48 oz of water yesterday. Hydration is by far the most important part of these first few weeks but i do not want to go through the hair loss I had with my band so I am throwing protein into everything and anything!

    Ladies HELP!

First off, try and not stress over the date. He is just a man, and trust me, men are far more stress than not. haha. I could easily tell you not to worry, that your beautiful, you should feel happy with your weight loss so far and that if he doesnt like you for you then he is not worth it. BUT, ive been in your shoes, and it is easier said then done. I have been with my man for almost 4 years and i STILL sometimes stress about what i look like, what im going to wear, etc. And through all my experience i can tell you this: as hard as it may be, when you are out with him, do not stress too much about how you look, or what your stomach looks like when you sit down or how your arms look when you take off your jacket, because you know what, those thoughts will consume you and you will end up not having any fun. The guy will appreciate smiles and laughter much more than a woman who cant stop thinking about how they look, cause trust me, they can tell! BUT, have a wonderful time. the dress looks good and you will do great!!

    Hair Loss An Stalls

When does hair loss start? I am 2.5 months out and am taking in 100+ grams protein a day. Every few days I run my hand threw the hair, pull on it, but so far it is not budging. Not even a strand. I am not saying I want to lose hair, but am trying to prepare mentally for it. LOL! I have always had really thick hair and no male pattern baldness in my family.

What do I need to pack?

I took: Clean underwear, pajamas, socks, slippers, hair brush, tooth brush, tooth paste, hand sanitizer, cell phone, book, laptop, journal (for writing food), clothes for wearing home... and I think that was it. Honesly I never once used my laptop or a book .I slept almost the whole time. The essentials are the personal care items and clothes. also remember, most hospitals have extra tooth brushes, tooth paste, chapstick, etc if you forget.

    Hurtful family member (off topic)

She is who she is. this is not off topic because it is affecting you and your progress. While we love those in our lives we reach a point that we are no longer going to take this kind of abuse anymore. This girl needs help not you. Somewhere a long the lines she has felt that she comes first in all things. You really need to not give her that power anymore and ride it out. Everyone has that kind of person somewhere in their lives...My mother a few weeks ago decided that it was no longer a good idea for me to ever call her again. she did this because of a minor choice I made and she took it as personal...Fine...I am done. I have reached my limit of abuse. I know that she is incapable of love and so there fore I expect nothing from her.. You will have to come to grips with the same conclusion. And realize that love has nothing to do with this. It is not you or her grandmother this is her. She must change and you must keep going... Your weight loss will stall if you don't eat...please look after yourself no matter how painful this is....The grandmother needs your love...Since you have some time to spare now...Give her the extra time and attention and work to figure out how to deal with this....Don't expect her to see it your way.....You have to live around it or plow right through it......
  22. I am 2 weeks post-op and still on full liquids. Yes I do feel physical hunger. I get that empty gnawing feeling. But then my doc has me low calorie, low carb, low fat, low sugar, and high Protein. Weight loss has been pretty good so I can't complain about that at all. I guess now is the time we are supposed to work on our food issues. I have found that certain things slide right through. Well so far everything I am allowed to have slides right through except the Protein shakes. They do tend to hang around longer and keep me from being hungry. Khy...sucking it up and learning hunger isn't going to kill me.
  23. I have heard so many great things from so many people on this site. I am still very scared that I'll do this and totally regret it like the Lap-Band. I don't yet understand the Bougie sizes, and I am not sure which is best? Bigger so that you don't throw up? Or smaller because you can eat less food? I need to lose this weight. I am 26.5 years old and I have back problems, chronic migraines, depression & anxiety, joint pain, and high blood pressure. I just don't know if I can lose it keep it off on my own. I am worried about the psychological aspect of this whole thing too. I truly believe I am addicted to food. It is my joy, comfort, best friend (and obviously, worst enemy!) I have been to a lot of counseling by a psychologist/ARNP who specializes in weight loss surgery patients...but it's not like I'm over this addiction. Is it truly a mind over matter thing? I don't know! Anyone have any advice or sites I could visit for help with my decision? I am so appreciative of all the kind people on this site who are truly helpful and genuinely kind. And if there are negatives, please don't be afraid to share. I'd love to hear it all. With many thanks and much love, Erika
  24. I know how you feel. I was questioning whether this was the right choice. I was scared and more so the closer I got. I know that the weight loss will help my co morbidities. I also want "a fresh start". If that makes sense. In a few years my youngest will be graduating high school, I'm going to be a grandma, I've got another year of grad school. I fell like losing the weight will help me feel better, have more energy, and increase my self esteem (which isn't horrible to begin with). I'd be happy asI am the rest of my life because of what I have but feel that this would help improve it. It's like a new chapter of my life will be starting and this is just part of it. I know my parents and husband would tell me they support me but I don't have to do this. I know they are just worried for me. Everyone at work was surprised also, they were like I don't think you need that. Well, I've made many changes over the years and have lost alot of weight from my highest. This will help me to reach my goal sooner rather than over another 10 years. Meantime the extra weight is just making my joints worse, etc. Cold feet are normal, I just had surgery 5/31. Just think about why you want to have it and I wrote it down so I could read it when I questioned whether to go through with it, even while laying in the bed waiting to go into surgery hearing my dad's voice in my head saying saying, its not too late to change your mind if you don't want to go through with this. Pre Op Physical

I don't think it will be required but I encourage you to get one soon - your health is important and you should be getting regular exams (I sound like your Mom!) Early detection can save your life! I plan on having one as soon as I can after surgery. I've been having so many appts (had to do 6 months physician guided weight loss- 2 visits/month) between trying to satisfy requirements for this procedure and things with my kids (orthodontist, dentist, dermatologist, work, etc) that I've been trying to prioritize to get this surgery out of the way. But you are absolutely right- the whole point of this surgery is that I'm trying to put my health first for a change, and that includes the dreaded pelvic exam, lol. I'll get it scheduled
