  1. My VSG Brother!!! Surgery 1/10/17 also... I was fine too, the next day managed to drink 2.5 of my Gatorade drinks they gave at hospital. Been drinking all clears, got ok for Protein drinks/yogurt/vanilla puddings for 5th day (waiting til 6th). They said can start pureed on Sunday, I stocked up chick peas, avocado, lox, Farmer's cheese....sooo looking forward to real food. I saw you did tuna and shrimp....can I asked how you ate or prepared shrimp?
  2. I just had my first Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt, can I tell you this stuff rocks! 120 calories, 0 fat, 8 net carbs and 15 protein! Sent from my XT1565 using the BariatricPal App

    Free at last!

16 days post op and down 16lbs. It's slowing down as I'm leveling out but I'm feeling so much stronger and I'm eating yogurt, tuna fish, salmon, low fat cottage cheese, and high Protein meatless burritos with a flaxseed tortilla now. food is good but I'm still drinking my shakes because they make my Vitamins and protein intake easier. Shakes make sure I'm taking the food introduction and intake slowly as well. I want to get to know my new pouch nice and easy as the thought of throwing up or dumping horrifies me greatly!! 4. So I just tried greek yogurt again and surprise, surprise, it's still gross lol. I firmly believe they make you do this whole liquid diet thing because it makes you want to eat ANYTHING even if it's a vegetable What I wouldn't give for a salad right now! I don't like Jello, most yogurt, and I only slightly like pudding, so my choices are limited this week lol. Good luck to everyone else, we'll get through it!!!

    Pre-op diet starts tomorrow

@bill1130 I am on my second shake for the day and I did have half a yogurt (as per my plan) but I am not allowed to take any pills pre-op so I haven't had any Vitamins in 3 days.

Don't you feel great? I miss food big time, wasn't a junk eater....I want my usual salmon and lox, etc. I know when I eat too many carbs (happens around Thanksgiving every year) I feel like crap. Well, this year was worse as I thought I am not going to eat this or that after surgery. I can't even begin to tell you how it affects my joints. Pre-op started 12/27 and last time I ate chicken/veg was on 1/8, then liquids since. I feel so great, although I can't stop thinking about when I can get pureed foods which is next week. They let us start yogurt and similar on day 5 if we felt ready, I was but had Protein pudding instead, kefir and yogurt started night before. A yogurt never felt so satisfying, it took me an hour to have a 5.4 oz Triple Zero Oikos.

    "The Process"

Just to add to the response above... during extreme weight loss, the body can also use muscle tissue to produce energy, not just fat. This is why strength training is very, very important for a bariatric patient after surgery. Some things that have changed for me after having lost 78 lbs: - Bowel movements are once or twice a week... and sometimes it's... difficult. This is because of how little we eat. - I sleep a hell of a lot better than I did at close to 300. I no longer wake up several times a night. - Bladder leaking while sneezing, etc issues are completely gone. I also no longer need to pee during the night. - I can wear dresses without my thighs rubbing each other raw. - Packing lunch for work takes me less than 10 minutes. It goes like this: Put a greek yogurt into the bag, throw a few shrimp into a container with sauce on the side, add a cheese stick for later, and Protein hot chocolate mix for the afternoon. Done. - Sex is a lot easier and more fun because mobility has greatly increased. - My periods, which had been irregular before, are now a lot more regular (still a bit off, but improving) .... I'm sure others will add some, but those have been some of the big ones for me
  8. First... make sure you're eating your meals regularly throughout the day. That's the most important thing to avoid being hungry late in the evening. Second, set a time to stop eating that is 4 hours before you go to sleep. I generally go to sleep at 11:30 pm so I don't eat anything after 7:30 pm Lastly, allow yourself something small to tide you over if you really can't stand it. Choose a calorie dense, healthy food. I like a spoonful of nut butter or greek yogurt. Something that might help... BariWise makes some awesome hot cocoa mixed that are under 100 calories and give you 15 grams of Protein. I like to sip these in the evening if I'm hungry You can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/BariWise-15g-High-Protein-Chocolate/dp/B00NTBC276/

    It's hard !

I found what worked for me to lose some weight u might want to try it and see if this works for you. Breakfast: slim fast shake (4 hr hunger control ) 8 Oz of 1% milk I scoop of slim fast and ice and blend Lunch: I made enough to make 2 portions one for dinner. Dice up egg plant, carrots, tomatoes, onions, green onions, bell peppers, broccoli, colliflower, season with whatever seasoning u like. I used adobo cumin , black ,pepper, garlic and lime juice sautéed it. And u can pair it with 3 Oz lean meat fish, turkey, chicken I cook it in my my wave oven. And I take a tablespoon og low fat Greek yogurt and hot sauce. And omg it's delish. Dinner: Eat second portion of lunch same way. Eat raw carrots when u have a craving to eat in between. You will lose weight eating this everyday and those 10 lbs will come off in no time. Try it. Yes I know it will become boring eating this everyday but it worked for me. I actually love it. Good luck. Pre-op diet starts tomorrow

Im on day 3 of the liquid pre-op diet. Started on the 17th, surgery on the 31st. Surprisingly not as hungry as I thought I'd be. I drink 3.5 or 4 premier shakes a day, 1 serving of yogurt too. The yogurt helps!! I can have a 8oz glass of skim-milk but I've never really liked milk by itself. I'd say day 1 was pretty rough but sugar free Popsicles & sugar free jell-o got me through it. 2nd day I stuck to Water, my shakes, yogurt and two cups of broth. Im in the state of mind - keep my eyes on the prize!! I have pictures and my calendar in my fridge to keep me motivated. We can do this!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Advancing your diet- on your own

I advanced a couple of days early for all of my phases, but only by trying little bits at a time. I didn't just go straight from liquids to chicken salad, but I went to puréed cauliflower and yogurt and things like that before fully progressing. I found I tolerated things more easily when I made the transition slowly. I'm currently in soft foods and pretty content. I just can't wait for salads!

    Puree foods

I got foil packs of Salmon Creations (lemon &dill) then used a hand mixer to add a few tablespoons of Fage' plain greek yogurt. Really easy to get my protein in that way.

    Do you eat breakfast?

Hi - I find that I wake up hungry so I always eat some sort of breakfast. (But I don't have to get up as early as you!) I will eat one of the following - premier Protein shake -oikos yogurt (15 grams of protein) + a tiny bit of high protein Go Lean crunch Cereal in it + a few strawberries or blueberries - 2 eggs and a bunch of veggies mixed in - leftover piece of chicken - if I want something that I can really chew that feels like breakfast food, I'll have some go lean crunch cereal + milk I do try and get at least 25 grams of protein in for breakfast. It keeps me full and not wanting to graze by 9 or 10am.

    Puree foods

Yes, you can puree pinto Beans. You can have canned chicken or tuna on the puree stage. I would mix my chicken with a little lowfat mayo and seasonings and have it like a little chicken salad. Refried beans, hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, ricotta bake.

    Hi :)

Hello and welcome to BP I am 9 weeks post op and on regular foods. For the soft food stage, I ate scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, a little banana for fruit. My nutritionist said canned pineapple was ok, so I would put that in my cottage cheese or yogurt for Breakfast. For lunch I would have moist cut up chicken breast meat or chicken thigh meat, wild alaskan sockeye salmon, refried Beans, mashed carrots, canned green beans. Every now and then I would have some sweet potato, but I really tried to keep my carbs to a minimum. dinner would be much like lunch. I was also told that I could have moistened ground beef during the soft food stage, but I waited to try it until I reached the regular foods stage. For Snacks I had hummus, yogurt, string cheese, or cottage cheese. Since surgery, I have been making sure that I eat my Protein first, so when I said that I would eat some carrots, green beans, or sweet potato.... I only limited it to a few bites of those things. Hope that helps. OH! Also, there is a great recipe for ricotta bake out there. Just google it and you will find it. It's really good and I was able to have that during the soft food stage.

    Unflavored Protein

I use unjury too. One scoop is about 4 Tbs. During my pureed and soft food stage, I would usually add 2 Tbs (which is about 10.5 grams of protein) to my food. Examples of foods that I added it to: refried Beans, yogurt, mashed sweet potato. Most of the time though, I use the Unjury in my drinks if I need more Protein rather than in my food. My favorite drink to add it to is decaf iced tea. Goes down easy. I add 2 Tbs per 8 oz of liquid.

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!

It's unbelievable how carbs kick you out of keto so quickly. I was testing on ketostix completely no color, I was on neutral---so proud of myself. Yesterday I ate an Oikos Triple Zero yogurt for dinner, and this morning my ketostix was moderate which after weeks of neutral shocked the heck out of me....the color on my stick looked so dark. I assume that is why so many people slow down on weight loss numbers on week 3 after surgery. As soon as they start eating it affects the body. I am not in a hurry or worried, 8 days after VSG today.

    Looking for January 2017 sleevers

Hi all! Today marks exactly one week since I had surgery! The ups and downs: ups are I have lost 9 pounds since surgery????(some reason I thought it would be more- being ungrateful I guess), I have been cleared to eat yogurt, applesauce and jello for taste????. The downs are: it takes all day to drink my protein shakes and water and sometimes I still can't, I literally have to take breaks in between each bite and sip or a horrible gas bubble lodges in my chest????, I get lightheaded and weak sometimes(doctor said my blood pressure could have dropped too low or I might be dehydrated). That's just a few things. Another cool thing is he said I might be off my bp meds real soon!!!! My bp was in "normal" range at my week followup!!! I haven't had a normal numbers in 9 years!!!!!! This is gonna be a life altering journey????

Advancing your diet- on your own

I chewed it , didn't swallow it .....it was tee tiny, like the size of my pinky nail. I think I just needed to taste real food. I am one of those with no upset stomach, no nausea, I wake up and drink 4 oz of broth first thing in the a.m. I saved those little pieces from the bone for when I can eat it again. I have only been eating yogurt, kefir, Protein Gelatin, Protein shakes. I will follow until Saturday or Sunday, and then start with my salmon, tuna, ricotta cheese (wish we had access to Farmer's cheese), I bought those this week ....I AM READY! Give those pureed Proteins. It will be like eating pate, I can't wait.

  23. Hi! I am doing great still, down over 220 lbs from my highest weight (434 lbs, now 207), and still a vegetarian. I still try to keep my diet as protein-heavy as possible, using veggie "meats," cottage cheese, eggs, greek yogurt, and Protein shakes made with unsweetened almond or soy milk. Going back to meat was never an option for me. I haven't eaten it in over 20 years, so I wasn't about to start lol The amount of food I can eat greatly depends on what it is. Denser stuff like eggs I can't eat a lot of, but when I do have salad or veggies, I can eat more. Still nowhere near the typical amount for a vegetarian, I'd bet, but it is still nice to have a salad on occasion. One pleasant surprise is that I still enjoy food and eating. In fact, probably more so since I savor every bite. Before surgery, I ate lots, all day long. Now, it doesn't take much food to satisfy me, so I make sure every bite is as tasty as possible! Getting the sleeve was probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I thought I was a relatively "healthy" person at 400 lbs (no comorbidities aside from very mild sleep apnea) but I didn't realize just how much my weight was holding me back until it was gone. Besides the obvious finding clothing (size 34 pants down to 14/16, shirts 5x to XL), it is just generally easier to do everything. I'm even jogging now, slowly working up to a 5k. Good luck on your journey! It can be tough at times, especially in the very beginning. But it is SO worth it!
  24. Keep in mind I'm 15 weeks out tomorrow! Some days are great others are terrible, I want to eat my arm or my husbands, but then I eat something hearty like soft beef or a mini red potato dressed up and feel better, followed by fruit, Propel and Water... All serving sizes unless Soup are typically 2-4oz in either volume or weight. What I ate today: Two egg white bites Apple slices with peabut butter and a date Sushi Rice 1 Peanut Butter cookie Non-fat greek yogurt, made locally, with a sliced banana and mashed strawberry sauce & granola What I ate yesterday: 2 egg white bites - 13g carbs 13gr Protein 170cals 3oz split pea soup (was still full from egg white bites) 1/2 pc pizza (no end crust) 2oz yogurt with granola, half a small organic banana 1 baby potato chopped and mixed with avocado hummus, seasoned rice vinegar and seasonings What I ate two days ago: Thai Cashew Slaw ( I LOVE IT) cheese wedge and almonds More Thai Cashew Slaw (no mayo) Pot salad - 1 baby red potato cooked and chopped, with 1 egg, 1/2 of an avocado, cilantro, herbs, green onion other seasoning. Mashed avocado with herbs and other seasonings to make a dressing Raspberries KEEP ON KEEPING ON! <3 Shana
  25. Hey all! I've been wondering how and where everybody is at from the same time frame as myself. I had my surgery Oct 5th, I was between 263 and 266, I didnt want my exact wt the day of surgery. Today I am 224 but I have seen 223. For the last week and a half I have bounced between 225 and 227. Kind of like when I was at 254, I thought the scale would never move again. I dont even remember seeing the 230's, we were moving and the next thing I knew they were history! Looks like the avg is about 40lbs in loss for this far out. Isn't that great?!!! I am starting Snap Fitness 24hr this week, very excited, I've always loved the way I feel after working out! Now, other things... I feel flabby, eeeew! My boobies have fallen and they seriously cant get up, unless I'm in a sweetheart plunge line brazier! The back side of my undies fall down, butt has deflated! Oh and I have this bit-o-skin under my chin, like a turkey! Now for the food, unfortunates...I backslid during Christmas, boy those Cookies are so easy to get down! Whereas I've never had much of a sweet tooth, apparently the surgeon left that part of my stomach behind, because I have one now! Im trying to get more fruit in and dates, so that I dont eat any baked goods. I also dont do so well with whey any longer so I've chosen a vegan Protein... In fact I eat more vegetarian recipes as well. Beef goes over well (if its cooked soft, so I usually use my Power Pressure Cooker XL, or similar to that is an Instant Pot) but chicken, no so much. At times I crave carbs because my body will feel depleted even if my head doesnt think Im hungry...so I try to eat a healthier carb, such as potato salad made with avocado and no mayo, an egg and seasonings such as cilantro and green onion, etc., or a grain salad.. I think fast food tastes like crap and is a waste of calories (if I feel gross after eating something I try to engrave that into my brain!), but I do crave pizza now and then so I try to not have it in the house except for on a rare occasion. Some weeks are way harder than others, but I find if I eat two egg white bites nearing 4oz from Starbucks in the AM, along with a fruit or PB and banana two hours from that, a smart lunch, dinner and another snack Im good. Eating a hearty Breakfast with a lot of flavor helps me a great deal and it sticks to my bones. For the longest time I could only get between 2-3oz in weight in my belly, now depending if its a slider food that is still more on the solid side and not a Soup I can get between 3-4 oz in, 3oz is the best though, for me... thats if I havent had a muscle meat in my belly that day. Soups and purees are almost like Water to me, I can drink up to 12-15oz, not all at once. Whereas I once loved ice cold water, it now feels hollow and odd in my tummy, so I probably get 32 of unsweetened ice tea in and the same amount of water per day.... this is not acceptable and I can tell by the dizziness that sets in and how dark my urine gets, I need to get more water in. Lately I have been dizzy on occasion, more water helps, I usually add sugarless Propel powder to my water and that helps even more! I do have more headaches than usual and as of this past week my IBS is bothersome after the first meal of the day, poss because Im sensitive to eggs and thats what Ive been eating in the AM. HOW ARE YOU FEELING PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY??? Not everyday is great but we can make tomorrow, or even later better! Don't focus on your failures, meal plan instead, read inspiration and watch healthy cooks on YouTube for inspiration, don't watch MUKBANGS! What I ate today: Two egg white bites Apple slices with peabut butter and a date Sushi Rice 1 Peanutbutter cookie Non-fat greek yogurt, made locally, with a sliced banana and mashed strawberry sauce & granola What I ate yesterday: 2 egg white bites - 13g carbs 13gr protein 170cals 3oz split pea soup (was still full from egg white bites) 1/2 pc pizza (no end crust) 2oz yogurt with granola, half a small organic banana What I ate two days ago: Thai Cashew Slaw ( I LOVE IT) cheese wedge and almonds More Thai Cashew Slaw (no mayo) Pot Salad - 1 baby red potato cooked and chopped, with 1 egg, 1/2 of an avocado, cilantro, herbs, green onion other seasoning.
