  1. Hi everyone I hate to say this but I am completely regretting getting the band already. I was banded on the 15th and also got a surprise hernia repair. I havebeen in so much pain and meds are not doing much. My stomache is rumbling or making some crazy sounds constantly, and where my port is is so painful !!! I am thinking by today I shouls be feeling better since Monday and I was wondering what your guys experiences has been. I do not sleep well wake up in pain so I walk around and last night I was crying hysterical to my husband feeling like what the hell did I do to myself. I have a follow up appoitment today with the doc. The funny thing is I weighed 221 going into the hospital coming home I was 10 pounds up and now I am still 6 pounds up..I find that irritating since I am only having about 700 calories a day at this point. Please let me know if any of this is normal or it sounds as if something is wrong. So many people on the boards have made this procedure sounds so much less painful:confused:

    5 months, 78lbs Lost

Congrats on the weight loss. I'm 4 months out and also down 10 sizes. I get between 80-100 grams of Protein a day and don't have a problem lifting 4 times a week and gaining muscle mass.

    Streched Pouch...

Your only at 4cc? What size band do you have? Unless its a 4cc band I doubt your too tight. I have yet to read on here that someone was too tight at 4cc with a 10 or 14cc band. If your not eating correctly then your probably not chewing correctly either, thus regurgitating your food. I currently have 4.5cc and I still need another fill or two. I know everyone is different but...

Help! For all you lovely people who are familiar with Florida!

I think beaches and relaxation sounds just fine right now!! Having spent 10 years commuting into the centre of London every day, I can go a few years without having to see it again! I think the west coast is where we'll be heading. The man has already vetoed the east coast for many reasons... Largely - they're not on the gulf! Well, his side of the gulf! Do you have any specific opinions on Panama City? Seems like we can get a rental out that way.. and I was wondering how it would compare to the other locations... -x-

    1-2 week post op

Don't rush yourself. I know you want to eat solids, but it sounds like your stomach doesn't want you to. 10 days is very early on. If they are giving you trouble, switch back to purees or full liquids for a week or so before trying again. It isn't a race.
  7. I hate drinking water also but i force myself to drink 1, 16.9oz bottle every day. Then i drink the rest in protein shake, decaff tea or crystal light. Protein is so important so you dont lose muscle. I drink for breakfast every morning 1 scoop of Chocolate Supreme 100% casein, 1 scoop of low carb dutch chocolate isopure mixed with 10oz of cold water using a blender bottle. That right there is 50grams of protein. On days that i exercise i also eat a quest protein bar which is 20grams of protein, thats 70 out of the 80 my Dr recommends. So 10oz of water in my breakfast shake @ 8am 16.9oz of plain water before 11:30am when i eat lunch 16.9oz of decaff tea at 2:30-3pm finished by 4:45pm. Protein bar snack on the way home from work at 5pm. Exercise about 6pm for 30mins drinking about 8oz of water mixed with Xtend during exercise Eat dinner about 7pm Finish drinking last 12oz of water/tea/crystal light between 8pm & 10:30pm Hope this helps give you an idea of how to keep up with your protein and water. Oh yea and at least 8 hours of sleep. I think i've figured out when i get less than that my weight loss slows and stalls.

    Would you do it again?

If I could up your number from 10 I would give it a 20 in the worst complications. But would I do it again...YESSSSSSSSSSS in a flash. I am very grateful for the second chance I have to live and learn and change my life. I can't remember feeling this good since I was a teenager. Even with existing complications. I am 17 months out! I am a totally different person. The girl I was before died with the surgery. Trust me it was a good thing!!!!
  9. It's been 10 mths since my band to sleeve revision but I remember that 4 weeks of full liquids like it was yesterday. Definately hard. After being banded in 2009, I only made it to the 2nd week and then I cheated. Regretted it for yrs. I was single back then and it was easier to cheat. It was also easier to cheat knowing I couldn't really damage myself withe the band. But I could with a sleeve. Plus I gained a "food Nazi" husband who woulda tattled on me had I cheated. I got my hunger back on day 10 (was easy till then) and then I could eaten my arm - had I been able to suck my arm thru a straw. I ate tomato and split pea Soup, Jello, sf pudding, yogurt, and popsicles. Hot stuff satiates (not "fills" u asn liquids don't do that much) better than cold stuff. So sip tomato soup. Sip, sip, sip. Gawd, how I wanted a french fry or a taco. But then I'd be paranoid about causing a leak and my craving would go away - for about 5 minutes. Nothing I can say that will make u feel better. Hang in there. It WILL get better soon. No, u won't feel "full" while on liquids but u certainly won't die. I wouldn't rush out there and eat something - just in case ur the 4% that get a leak. When ur able to eat soft foods, it will get much better. Good luck!

    How much first fill?

Yes I got filled every time the doctors let me I actually dont even have 4cc I have 3.9. And I have been wondering why I havent lost any weight in the last 6 months although I have pretty much maintained. I struggle with a 10 pound difference going up and down but thats all will power. They have never filled me above .4 at one time. Thats why I feel so frusterated when I see that others are filled to 7.9 or so. They told me I am about maxed out for my fills which doesnt make any sence when u look at how much everyone else with a 10cc band has. I can eat anything I want I just choose to try not to but sometimes I am not perfect which makes it harder.
  11. V. true. Just vow to stick with it for Wednesday. Call your doc and make sure all is well. My doc did say I could have lean chicken and veg. for dinner but I need to have NOTHING but liquids the day before. I am on the diet too and suffering a bit and have some set backs this weekend (birthday weekend) but am back on track and will be an angel this week. I have lost like 10 pounds though. Good luck!

    Emotion v Eating

I'm just starting my journey, but I once lost weight and kept it off for 5 years and on and off for another 6 by using a few tricks. 1. I kept my mouth busy with sugar free gum and exclusively drink water- no juice or soda. 2. I recited food is fuel not fun everyday 3. I didn't say goodbye to everything I liked to eat, so I knew there was nothing I couldn't have. I just had to wait until a scheduled day in the week to have a "cheat meal." A lot of weeks I didn't have the cheat meal bc I didn't want to mess up my progress. 4. I worked out regularly 3-5 days per week 5. I shopped often and stayed out of gym clothes. Stretchy clothes don't tell you when you are gaining, so only wear them to work out 6. I trained for events (100 mile bike, 5k, wedding, trip) 7. I made friends at the gym so I had people to look forward to seeing. 8. I ate on schedule so I didn't have a chance to feel hungry 9. I kept my trigger foods out of my house and resolved not to drive anywhere to get any food I was craving or send anyone out for it either. 10. I made myself a priority. I went places I enjoyed, I tanned, I wore nice clothes, i took time to feel good. Hen it was my time I enjoyed it, and I made up for it by giving my family their day for something special too. When I stopped all of thy I gained weight and lost my satisfaction with my life. That was my recipe through trial and error I discovered it. You just have to find what works for you and be ok with messing up a little as you discover what that means for you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Introductions

Hi there, I'm going to add on here too, even though it's been a bit since this thread has been active. I just discovered there was an LDS thread! I'm 29 (but will turn the dreaded 30 in less than a month!). I've been a member for about 10 years, converted while in college. I've been married almost 9 years. And I've been fat as soon as I left high school. My surgery is tomorrow. I have a good friend in my ward who went through this about 18 months ago, but otherwise am not telling others in my ward family. I have my MSW and am a clinical social worker, but am between jobs at the moment. My calling is activities chairman, and everybody tells me that my activities have been the best they've gone to!
  14. Hi Gendy and welcome. I got my band in 2004 (10 years now) and had the exact same trouble like Stacielynntate. Horrific acid reflux, food stuck, vomiting all that went in and so on. My surgeon suggested the sleeve but I was only thinking about getting the band out. I had lost 100 pound in the first 5 years but gained back 30 to 40 pound over the last 5 years. So dieting is what I did for the last 5 years to keep is below 40 pounds but I am really ready now to get the sleeve and hope to have the same luck that it works for me without trouble, like acid reflux. Because that actually was my worst nightmare with the band. Not being able to sleep more than 30 minutes before all came up again. So yes I am hopeful and nervous at the same time. Where do you get the revision done?

    Major Diarrhea 4 days post-op

hi there, i had the same issue - 'd' - for about 8 to 10 days after surgery. then it stopped and now things are more normal. i was very concerned because we are supposed to stay hydrated. i too am lactose intolerant but have been crushing up lactaid pills and using lactaid milk or even Water to mix my whey Protein drinks. i can't have soy or i'd have tried that. i still am having the same stuff now and the 'd' is gone - so i don't think it was the lactose issue. i used chewable pepto tablets to help when it was overwhelming me. that helped too. hang in there, it'll go away. make sure you keep up on fluids - my dr. recommended that i sip gatorade.
  16. I've seen this question several times and since I also had left shoulder pain, I thought I would relay what I learned. The following is a direct quote from the book that my surgeon provided to me pre-op. I found it helpful. In the book The Lap-Band Solution, Dr. Paul O'Brien writes: "It is common to have pain at the left shoulder area after the procedure. This pain is actually coming from the diaphragm, which is the large sheet of muscle that separates the chest, with its heart and lungs, from the abdomen. It is called referred pain because although it comes from the diaphragm, the brain interprets it as coming from the left shoulder and you feel sore there. It is common early after the operation but usually settles in a few days. Occasionally it can linger on for many weeks. We (the author) do not know exactly why it occurs and therefore we cannot predictably avoid it. Apart from letting time pass, various simple techniques have been found to help and are worth trying: hot packs to the shoulder standing or sitting upright resting quite still for 10 minutes walking about peppermint tea simple pain relievers" The other thing that my doctor told me is that if the pain moves beyond the shoulder area, e.g. into the upper arm, neck or chest, to consult a doctor immediately, call an ambulance or get myself to the ER because it could be something more serious. A scary reminder that with obesity comes a higher risk of heart attack. Boy, I can't wait to get down to a normal weight!
  17. @@Tiffany2015 HUGS x 10! I am so very sorry that you are going through such a tough time. I hope that you take the time to speak with a therapist who can help you with the grief that you feel. You seem like a very positive person and positivity always helps me through tough situations so leverage it as much as you can. As others have said, menopause sucks but it does differ for each individual. I had a hysterectomy in 2003 but they left my ovaries. Now I am going through menopause and I have some pretty severe symptoms. I have chosen not to take anything for them. One thing I will tell you is gaining weight is not one of them. Leverage what you learned to help manage your weight. I actually am struggling to stop losing at this point having reached my goal in the spring. There are tricks that you learn to deal with the hot flashes which for me truly are the worst. They leave me soaked to the bone and then of course I get very cold. So I try to ensure that I do things to not trigger as many of them. I have a fan next to me in the living room and I sleep with a fan on in the bedroom. I try not to wear clothing that I know will make me warmer because just being overly warm will trigger one for me. I always have a light jacket with me because if I am not flashing I am freezing cold to the bone. Hopefully you will have little to no symptoms, you have certainly had enough stuff to deal with and you deserve a break. I will say prayers to help you through this. We will be thinking about you. Please keep us posted and reach out if you need anything.
  18. I've lost 21 since pre op. I was banded 10/12. My first fill is in three weeks. I get hungry but I'm using the " my fitness pal" website to track my protein, cals ,etc. It tracks everything. I love it. Even though I get hungry, I am trying to stick with a program of eating about 1000 cals and keeping my protein over 65 gm per day. Keeping track is keeping me focused while I enter bandsters hell. I continue to lose. I see the nutritionist next wednesday. The " my fitness pal" site even let's you enter your weight and how quickly you want to lose. It then calculates how many cals you should have. I like the visual aids. It helps me stay focused. Check it out.
  19. Hi all.... I saw my surgeon for my 2nd appt after surgery on 5/31...I am now 197 and have lost 31 pounds to date. For the first time in 7 years I am officially under 200 pounds. I am 10 pounds from the 1/2 way point and could not be happier. I did not get a fill because I did not feel as though I needed one. I am quite content between meals atm. He told me that is not uncommon and sometimes individuals do not get their first fill for 6 months. At any rate...I am so darn happy I made this choice and getting happier as the slimmer me begins to appear. I forgot what the old me use to look like

    Nothing fits

I bought a lot of 't's from Kohls when they had their sales. The winter long sleeved ones were around $8-9. and the summer ones under $7. I have about a dozen of each and they wash real well. I dry them for about 5 minutes and then hang them. So I don't know if the shrink. Also where I live in MA we have outlet stores and recently bought tanks at Jones New York for $10. each. I also did well at Marshalls/.TJ Maxx for summer clothes, too. I own a lot of tops and about 6 pairs of jeans, black, blue and white. As far as bras, I was measured and went way down. Panties, had many sizes, so I was all set there. Good luck. I know people at my support group say they go to consignment stores. I have brought clothes there but never bought any.

    Nothing fits

Don't underestimate the value of eBay! I sell my big clothes and buy my skinnier clothes on eBay. I am able to purchase brand name beautiful clothes for pennies on the dollar. The trick is to know the brand and what size would fit you and then have at it. I am happily at a size 12 now but still have 30 more lbs to lose. I am a professional so I can't just wear whatever. I love J. Crew but hate their prices especially during this size transition. I got skirts for $10 that are normally over $100. Beautiful tops for $8-15. When I am done with them I will resell them on eBay!
  22. I am still pre-op (approved, just waiting on a date), but my goal going into this is to lose 2-3 pounds a week after the initial drop. I am guessing I will lose 5-10 pounds on the pre-op diet and then another 5-10 in the liquids stage. After that, I will be thrilled with 2-3 pounds a week. It has taken me four weeks to drop 2 pounds without the sleeve. Plus, the slower weight loss will help with skin firmness according to my doc. As of today I have 80 pounds to lose to reach my goal if 130. I fully expect it to take a year to lose it all. I hope I have set realistic expectations for myself, but only time will tell.
