If you like coconut cream pie, I use non fat Greek yogurt (6-8oz), sugar free instant vanilla pudding mix (1tbs), 1 scoop Protein powder, some coconut extract, unsweetened almond milk to get it the consistency that you can eat, and a small amount of toasted coconut on the top. I'm 3 weeks out so I'm still eating this because it is very low sugar, high protein, and tastes great. Be careful with the toasted coconut and make sure that your doctor will allow it. Toasted coconut breaks down when you chew it, but shredded coconut doesn't! This mixture lasts me 4-5 meals. Banded 2010 weight:327 Sleeved 12/28/16 weight:253 CW: 235. GW: 155 Heather in Texas

Question... Just had 2 oikos yogurts
LittleLizzieLilliput replied to trenth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess my question would be how long did it take you to eat two of them? Yogurt is like liquid and it will go through you more quickly. It was on my Full liquid diet list so it was considered a liquid. I can drink and eat "liquids" in much higher volumes than dense Proteins. I'd recommend only eating the serving size your doctor sets (4oz, 2oz, etc). Because the thing is...you never know when you are going to eat too much right now and make yourself very sick. Can doesn't mean should. lol! Lots of people tend to think their stomach isn't as small as they were told because at first they can consume what feels like large amounts of the liquid. But as soon as dense food goes in you will feel the difference right away. -

I think this is a good suggestion, adding protein power to food you can tolerate. Foods like yogurt, Soups, no sugar pudding, Sometimes I make a shake with almond milk. I think you should try just making your own shakes. Water, protein power (I've seen some good selections at GNC -- like a cinnamon one that tastes like Churro!) Check out powered Peanut Butter. I think the GNC brand is called Daily Powered PB. costco has one they are selling right now which is the more popular brand. 90% less fat, and 7 grams of protein to add to things... Good Luck! -

I wanna know about carbs... Seriously!
Guest replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
interesting. with my ketostix neutral means I'm not in ketosis.., darker means more ketones in the urine, therefore in ketosis. maybe the scale differs by brand. Oh damn, you are so right. I was reading incorrectly. The weird thing is, I was using while pre-op and was so happy when I got to neutral. How the heck when I am eating the carbs I was in the moderate to high (darker colors). Pre-op and the couple days on liquid (no sugars--broth, Powerade Zero) I was in neutral all that time. I got back and after a week a used one and it was neutral. Then I ate that yogurt with 6g sugar and the next day went way to moderate. Interesting....I guess I should not worry at this point, I am 10 days out today and sure weight will move. I haven't been eating foods, except the yogurt or kefir. I will go to 'real' foods Sunday or Monday (salmon, tuna, Farmer's cheese, avocado, beans) and then not worry. My weight loss is slow. I have been eating clean for the most part prior to surgery. I wonder if that is why # is not like some that lose 10 pounds in 10 days. Sleeved at 264.2 and 256.6 this morning. That seems a bit slow to me. Not expecting 20 lb, but was hoping to be 10 lbs only because I was stuck at 264 before surgery for a few days. Thanks for pointing out I was not reading correctly. -
@@lwhit86 I'm sorry you're having such an issue. I would really suggest trying to eat lean Proteins and stay away from carbs and "extra" food that you don't need. I eat a yogurt for Breakfast every morning because it fills me up more than a shake. I eat dannon light & easy. Its 80 calories and it has 12 grams of Protein. I snack on beef Jerky for protein. I drink fairlife milk as well because it is higher in protein than regular milk. For lunch I'll eat 2 or 3 oz of grilled chicken and I usually cant eat much more than that. Try turkey sandwich meat rolled up with some cheese (not kraft) with a little mustard. For dinner, again, chicken. I always look to protein first. Good luck! Feel free to send me messages whenever you like and Id be happy to give you suggestions.

I was given yogurt & cream of wheat in the hospital the morning after my surgery. I figured out after 1/2 a bite that I wasn't gonna like eating for a while. I learned pretty quickly when my body wasn't ready for something that I better listen. HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ? -
that is all I ate, is cottage cheese and yogurt, they make me gag. Think about it, since October I have been eating Soup, cottage cheese, rigotta cheese. After 6 weeks they want you to introduce food. My surgeon is away this week, I am sure he will contact me next week. Can not eat scrambled egg, make me throw up. I was able to eat the puree stage just regular food makes me sick

Apple and almonds? That's actually pretty tough on your stomach. I wasn't allowed apples or nuts until almost 3 months post-op. I had sleeve though, not bypass, and I know some of the guidelines are different. How do you do with Greek yogurt? Cottage cheese? Scrambled eggs? Were you throwing up in your puree stage or just once you moved onto solid foods?

I have Oikos drinkable yogurt for breakfast most days. Other days I'll have one scrambled egg or cream of wheat (although even though it's very very filling, it's only 3 grams of Protein. So I don't do that anymore). I like the drinkable yogurts because I can start my day without cooking which allows me to do more with my day. And they have 10 gram of protein. Then I get on my old elliptical and do 20 minutes. Then I get some decaffeinated coffee and add 4 oz of Premier Protein vanilla that adds 10.8 grams of protein. Breakfast helps to get my day started. And the protein helps me exercise more and more. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Question... Just had 2 oikos yogurts
Dairymary replied to trenth's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on liquids only for 3 weeks, but certainly couldn't eat that much yogurt even at 6 months out. Were you given instructions on certain amounts to eat? Like no more than 4oz per meal, etc? The nerves to your stomach were cut, so you can't go by what you perceive as "full" or not at this stage. It will be at least 2-3 months before your sleeve is healed and maybe even longer before you regain normal sensation. Measuring what you eat and sticking to that amount is a very important part of the learning curve for postoperative lifestyle changes required for long term success. Eating until we are full is what got us obese in the first place. It's one of the many bad habits I worked hard to get rid of. -

I just started puree as I am one week out and was able to eat two oikos yorgurts the triple zero. Im not overly full... Should I be? Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App -
I have coffee first thing. Half an hour later I have cottage cheese with blueberries or yogurt. I exercise in the morning for an hour so I want to get some protein in. Eating in the morning also gets your metabolism going. It is like putting a log in the fire.

I always thought my hospital does stuff way different then what I often read here. I was eating eggs and yogurt in the hospital the morning after surgery. Puréed meat as soon as I got home. Never once vomited. Sleeved 9/8/16, 70lbs down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I keep an eye on carbs. Right now my macros is set to 30% carbs 45% Protein and 25% fat. I have been told to watch my carbs. When I got to the purée stage, I was told I could purée Campbell's Chunky Healthy Request New England Clam Chowder which has potatoes. My NUT said that was fine. I still eat puréed Soup because I'm not at a stage where I can eat Soups without them being puréed. I usually get over 100 oz of fluids and between 80 and 100 grams of protein and about 70 grams of carbs, which is interesting to me because most of what I eat doesn't have carbs. My drinkable yogurt has quite a bit of carbs, and the soups I eat for lunch. The carbs may be helping me though, as I've been exercising more and more every week. 7 mths post op
Martha Parker-mcneal replied to curlysue86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
actually the 48 hour one is the fastest and best I think. the first day you have all Protein shakes ( the lowest calorie ones not smoothies etc) on the second day have a Protein shake for breakfast one for mid morning one for lunch and one for mid afternoon. have a baked 8 oz chicken breast ( or thigh which is more moist to me) focus and eat very slowly chewing chewing chewing. no drinking rules apply watch for the feeling of satisfaction and then fullness ( but not stuffed) measure how much chicken you have left and subtract from the 8 oz. this is how much your pouch will hold of real food. you will be able to eat more slider food but since we really need to focus on protein this will let you know now much your pouch is holding. for me I usually eat between 3-4 oz meat and a half cup of veggies and I am 13 years out. on the 5 day each day you follow the same meal plan you did just after surgery. day one full liquids day two thick liquids foods ( yogurt applesauce etc) day three pureed foods day four soft foods and day five back to your regular meals. hope these help you good luck -
Hey everyone. I'm 3 days post op and was told to start my Protein shakes, creamy Soups, yogurt, etc today. Has anyone else had trouble adjusting so soon? It's hard enough for my to get 4oz of Water down in an hour. How can I get 60-80grams of protein? I'm still a bit confused on the eating schedule. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

My VSG Brother!!! Surgery 1/10/17 also... I was fine too, the next day managed to drink 2.5 of my Gatorade drinks they gave at hospital. Been drinking all clears, got ok for Protein drinks/yogurt/vanilla puddings for 5th day (waiting til 6th). They said can start pureed on Sunday, I stocked up chick peas, avocado, lox, Farmer's cheese....sooo looking forward to real food. I saw you did tuna and shrimp....can I asked how you ate or prepared shrimp? same surgery dates and i just boiled the shrimp to make them soft (3 Pieces Large Shrimp) and than used an electric chopper for the shrimp to chop it into the size of the tuna and BAMMM was wonderful and no problems at all Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
