    Back to the Board

Thanks Michelle....I did have a NSV when I went to Vegas....The airplane ride....need I say more? I sat across from someone that had to get a belt extension and it made me grateful for my 20lbs lost. That 20 gone let me squeeze my wide butt into a seat!

    Update.

I just put on my work pants because I'm out of laundry and they are LOOSE! My first NSV. And I slept on my side last night! Today is a good day!

    Pause for Hugs

I'm sitting at my desk in downtown Houston. (19th floor, but by a window.) I am nibbling on a broccoli/raisin salad and browsing this site waiting for customers to call in. I do not converse much on this sight, but sign in at least every hour while at work just to see what's a going on. P'Nut, you right about this being a great place for friendship. I've never met any of you face-to-face, but I feel a bond and closeness to each of you because of our band. I want to know how you are doing, what you are feeling, trials you are having and victories you've accomplished. I guess it's the maternal instinct in me...... or maybe just down-right nosey-ness. It's a safe haven I can voice my concerns, share my disappointments and shout my NSV's. Thanks to all for being here. I love you all. Here's to everyone a very BIG HUG!

    inches instead of pounds?

So true, we need these Non-Scale Victories (NSV) and ways to measure our progress other than the scale.

    NSV and a weird day

Yay Amy! What an amazing day! You're efforts are paying off. And I have done the same thing, grab something to stuff in my mouth before I realized what I was doing. The panic is undescribable isn't it? I'm so happy for all of the NSVs you had after that, which confirmed that you are doing just fine!

    NSV's

You mean you won't miss all those horrid horizontal stripes??? WTH is wrong with designers???? And while yes it is off topic--but related to that--back when I was in plus sizes, the style was short shirts, tight---nothing with the length in the shirts I needed. Now I am in Misses clothes, and the long length, almost maternity look is in-------aaarrrggghhh!!!! My newest NSV-----my Dr in filling out my paperwork for a referral over some recent medical issues wrote me down as a 47 yo woman avg. build. YEEEHAW nowhere on it did it say morbidly obese anymore!!!! Kat

    NSV's

I have to share my NSV. Yesterday on my daily walk I found every few steps I was pulling up my pants, so when I got home I went shopping in my daughters closet and tried on her pants, THEY FIT. She wasn't very happy that I stole her pants, but I sure am. Started at a size 30W now a 22W, long way to go but I'm well on my way. I can't remember the last time I was in a 22. I forgot to add I haven't driven in several months and today I borrowed my daughters little kia car and for the first time I didn't rub the steering wheel. I also walked to the store twice today which is a mile, with a long hill at the end. I feel so proud I could burst. You see, no more using a wheelchair, walker, or cane, I sent them to the nursing home.

    NSV's

Today I'm wearing a shirt that I haven't worn in 3 years!! I don't have too many items of clothing that is too small because we moved last year and I just gave up and threw just about everything away. I got so many compliments today at church and I'm really no different than I was last week except the shirt :0) Thank God for NSV's!!
  13. I don't think it's disheartening--I think it's an NSV! I must have looked like a whale! I love it now when people do double-takes and ask my name with that upturn-question-sound on the end, like they're not sure it's me. I've lost two double chins and a second-grader so no wonder I look different. I stand differently, I wear clothes that fit, and I have more confidence. I don't think your feelings should be hurt, you should be happy that you have lost so much weight.
  14. After I finished my C25k run today at the gym I was looking for something else to do as a cool down. I walked by the dumb bell rack, and saw a 60lb dumb bell. I wrestled that beast off the bottom of the rack and went over to the scale. I stepped up and with it I weighed 257. The owner of the gym whose also a good friend walked by and saw what I was doing, he asked me if that was what I weighed before. No, I weighed 3 lbs more than this. Gotta a high five for it....felt good! Damn that thing was heavy too...

    A New Nsv!!!!!!

hehe, Greg- There's too many of those things huh? PB, NSV etc etc...I had to look them all up or ask too. NSV means Non scale Victory. Something that happened because of weight loss that doesn't have to do with numbers.

    NSV For Me!

Well, I'm a dummy. I've seen the acronym NSV several times here and I still don't know what it means. Can someone 'splain me?
  19. It's been three years so most of the NSVs have already happened but once in a while a new one pops up. Yesterday, I was sitting on the bus in a two seater by the window and had to get off and get past the lady beside me in the aisle seat. She didn't even bother to get up...she just did the body shift and moved her legs out of the way so I could get out. Not only was I able to do it, I was able to slip past her easily. I had the goofiest smile on my face when I got off the bus... This is the kind of thing that tells me I'm normal sized...not the scale. Second NSV...I was between meetings this morning and didn't want to bother putting the laptop back in the port so I worked at my desk with the laptop on my lap. Yes...my lap is now a flat surface with no stomach in the way. I've worked at home on a laptop for a while but tend to do so with feet up...either on the bed or the coffee table but this was with my feet firmly planted on the floor. I know I couldn't have done that before I lost the weight. These are good reminders of living life the way it was intended and not with the challenges of all the excess weight I carried.

    A couple of random NSVs

I love NSV's like that. I am a silly one too: I regularly take baths and read on my kindle. I rest the kindle on a bathpillow and noticed recently the bottom is always soaking wet where it didn't use to be. I realized it's because my lap is smaller and now below the Water level.
  21. I have posted several time but thought I would put my whole journey in one post for those beginning. I started my journey by calling insurance company in Dec of 2014 to see what they covered as far as weight loss. I was told a couple of dr's names and did a little research on dr's. I called one office and set up my seminar for Jan 8, 2015. As I waited for my appt I did even more research and when I went to seminar, I had already decided if I qualified I was wanting to get the sleeve surgery. Seminar came and when it was over you could set up a consultant with dr, so I chose the first time that would fit with my schedule, which was in February. I went in February and they told me what my insurance expected of me, which was 4 appts with a Nut and exercise therapist and 3 month diet plan. So I scheduled my appts and started the journey and told myself I could change my mine at anytime. I lost about 5-10 pounds on my supervised diet plan and finished all four appts faster than I thought I would, at the end of May at my last class they handed me a paper stating I had done everything I needed to do and had turned in all background paper and was ready to summit to insurance. I said great and left thinking it would be awhile. The next week I was on vacation and they called to schedule surgery!!! I set up my pre-op for the following week and surgery for June 15. Looking back it happened so fast. I went to my pre op appt and since it was close to surgery they asked if I had started my pre op diet(which I had not). I got my blood work, cheat X-Ray, and an EKG while I was there. I came home and started the pre op diet the next day as told. I lost about 10-12 pounds on pre op diet and day of surgery weighed in at 240. Had surgery at 11 and was in room by 3. My dr required a min of 2 days stay. All was going good until that night. I was up all night long getting sick which made me even more uncomfortable. I slept all the next day and got sick again that night. I told them I thought it was from the morphine and sure enough as soon as they took my IV out I was fine. Came home on Wednesday and slept all day, which caught me up on my sleep. Got up Thursday and was sore by kinda laid me bed all day as I run a home daycare and didn't want the kiddos to hurt me. Friday I came out to the living room and played with kiddos and moved around a lot. By the end of the next week I was going to the church and walking the indoor track(about half a mile). At the end of the third week I was going to gym and walking a mile in about 30 mins. Fast forward to December I started having really bad pains in my right side and went to have an ultrasound done on my Gallbladder were they found a huge stone. I had to stop going to gym while I waited 6 days for surgery(over Christmas). I had my gallbladder removed on Dec 29, 2015 at a surgery center and was home within 4 hours of arriving. I did awesome and I told them how sick I was after my sleeve surgery and they gave me everything they could to help that and I didn't even feel as though I was going to get sick. I was told no gym until my check up a week later. I went for check up on Tuesday and started back at the gym Wednesday. I am now able to do the treadmill for 30-35 mins which I am at an incline of 5.5 and speed 3.8 and go about 2 miles and I do the stationary bike for 30 mins and I go 6 miles. Then this week I am adding in weights as my surgeon said give it a few weeks. I weighed today and am at 179.6!!! I have not been that weight since middle school(now 40). I am wearing a size med yoga pants or a size 13 jeans and shirts I am wearing a large, but I haven't went shopping for any large so I am mostly swimming in my extra large shirts. After my gallbladder surgery I went back to protein shake for breakfast, ham and cheese roll up for lunch and a small dinner of chicken and some veggie or fruit. Then I normally have to eat a cheese stick and peanut butter at night to get my calories up to 900-1000. I am still wanting to lose about 20 pounds and then I will try maintenance, but I am going to be watching what my body does and will be happy with what every it decides to do. NSV this week was seeing someone I haven't seen in about 3 years and them going on about how good I look. Of course my hubby and parents tell me that all the time, but it is nice when it comes from someone you haven't seen in a long time and at the gym no less!!!!! Hope everyone else is doing well and loving the "new" you!!!
  22. Not sure if this counts as a NSV but I'm super excited to be down 21.7 inches over the last 6 weeks!
  23. I usually work from home so don't see people face to face too often. I think it has been a month since I was in, but I have lost about 10# since and more importantly I have been doing high intensity interval training. I have been doing boot camp, spinning - just stuff that really does body toning. I went in today wearing my size 10 dress and I could not help but notice what a defined waist I had! This dress is fairly conservative - long sleeves and high neckline but very modern and close fitting and short. I wore it with black tights and ankle boots. I went into my bosses office to show off as she is very supportive. I took off the long sweater and she gave me all the wowsa type remarks. I went to put my sweater back on and she said "You leave that sweater off! With a body like that, you gotta flaunt it!" So, at first I was kinda self conscious, but I relaxed into it as everyone complimented me - I proudly wore that cute dress, not covered up, all day long!!! I had a couple of people not recognize me today - although those people I haven't seen in 6 months or more. It was funny to have to show people my badge to remind them who I was...lol Anyway, I was feeling great today!
