So I am at my 5 week mark and the lbs have been coming off like clockwork, until last week that is. Started at 371, surgery at 330, down to 290 last week, now I have stalled and even gained a pound or two back. I'm starting to freak a little because of it. I just recently went back to actual food, but I eat protein first then veggies, rarely any fat (no fried food or anything). I exercise and walk, although stress over the past week from work is causing sleeping probs. I don't want to see that scale go the wrong way. Any advice?

One month and noticing a slow down
Airstream88 replied to kalel51's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are you making your protein and fluid goals? It's really important to get in the prescribed amounts of both. Many people experience a stall at the 3 week mark or so. Your body is just trying to adjust to everything that's happened to it. Keep plugging away and I'm sure it will pick back up. After a loss, my body fluctuates up and down for a few days and then I lose another couple of pounds. I definitely never lose any weight the day after a good workout. I've learned to go with the flow! -
You need to find out why you are doing this.. All of the above are great suggestions but until you get a hold of why your mind is doing this you will continue to Sabotage yourself!! Good luck date of surgery 02/21/12 surgery weight 340 lbs. current weight 146 lbs

Need to write an essay for surgeon??
thebandedgirl replied to reneedw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have to write one, but I would probably go through my journey of obesity. I would then write the ways in which I would "work the band" to help me lose weight ("My exercise plan is..." "My diet plan is..."). Depending upon the requested length, I would probably also write a section sharing what I'm looking forward to during and after my weight loss journey (off of meds, fit in an airplane seat, run a marathon, etc). I'm a fairly good editor and would be happy to edit a draft or two for you if you'd like. Just PM me and we can work it out. -
Welcome, and best of luck as you begin your quest for weight loss surgery!

Seriously....

I know that I didn't put the weight on over night...I guess I just thought that I would see more progress at this point. -
Hello is the anyone on here that got gastric sleeve and lost no more than 20 lbs over a 5 month period or overall as a matter a fact? Please tell...

Pasta/rice are serious triggers for me. I've decided to allow myself starchy veggies (eventually) including an occasional potato, but I'm going grain free otherwise. Even though I can eat very little, I know I will try to stuff myself. Plus I know it slows down weight loss, and I don't need that stress. Rice, Pasta, and bread are all on my "foods to avoid" list too.

Weightloss during 1 week liquid diet
vsg4missy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those that did the 1 week liquid diet prior to surgery, how much weight did you loose during that week? I'm concerned about my BMI getting too low, so I'm curious! ????. Thanks! -

Banded 12/20 and its going awesome!
mysterry replied to dionalyne's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Dionalyne! I was banded on 12/20 as well. Got my first fill on 1/11 and my next one is next week. I'm curious about how much food you can eat. I keep hearing about how your only supposed to eat half a cup but I can eat much more than that maybe that will come after the 4th or 5th fill but right now my weight is at a stand still in fact I've gained the last 2 weeks. I do seem to stay full longer so that's good but still. How much have you lost? Since my pre-op diet until now I have lost 37. -
Any runners out there?
2beskinny replied to conservachick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have always used running to acheive weightloss goals. Never have had such a lofty goal as I do now, but I'm still using running to get there. I told myself I would start running when I got to 200. Well - I started at 210 instead and I'm glad I did. Now I am 199 (whohoo!) and I can run 4 miles instead of just being at the beginning. As the weight comes off, the running gets easier. I'm also going to do a 1/2 marathon in May. I did it 6 years ago when I turned 40. I weighed about 180. This year I might even be close to goal when I run it! :sneaky: Good luck! -

kaobserver replied to kaobserver's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Day 7 finally! Last day of liquid diet for me and I'm pretty excited. I have been eating a small portion of scrambled eggs chopped up really fine with some pepper and a dash of hot sauce. *doctor said it was fine* I am sorry to hear your dry heaving and luckily I haven't had any of that myself. I have my first follow-up visit this Wednesday and I'm looking forward to seeing how much weight I lost. Already my face looks thinner and I'm losing some of the weight around my waist. Looking forward to updating my siggy, I am so happy I did this! - Aaron -

My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery My name is Carla! I live in NJ I'm a 35 year old married mother of two. My weight loss journey started in March 2008. My son was one year old and I decided I no longer wanted to live my 300lb unhealthy lifestyle! I wanted to live to be able to see my Son grow and I wanted to be able to play with him and not watch from the side lines. I had my gastric bypass surgery Sept 15 2008. After the usual Two days in the hospital I was feeling good and diacharged. Only to return to the hospital at 4am in severe pain. I had a leak. Had to do another surgery and recovery was very painful I stayed in the hospital for three weeks. With that being said I would do it all over again. I reached my goal weight of 160lbs within the year. I maintained this weight for 5 years I was a stay at home Mom back then and I worked out full time. 6 or 7 days a week 1 1/2 -2 hours a day! I was determined to make all of my pain purpose full. But as life happened I creeped up to 180lbs and plateau there for months until I got pregnant with my daughter. My weight went up to 230lbs on my date of delivery. With some light exercise, ppd, and anxiety my weight toggled between. 215and 230 until one morning I woke up and the scale said 240! I almost died. I did not come So far to just become morbidly obese again. So on June 1 2016 I began hitting the gym hard again! It's not easy working full time. Caring for my 8year old and 2 year old. And still finding the energy to work out like I used to. But I am motivated to get my old self back. So I have been drinking 2 meals and eating one meal daily for the past week. I have my restriction back! And I'm ready to reach my goals! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Welcome and congrats on the band Dzynr. I wish you luck on your journey. I am glad you are learning from our post. Yes patience is definatly key. You have lost 38 lbs! That is awesome in such a short time.A lot of Dr.s think 1-3 lbs a week is good. You have exceeded that! Be proud in the amount you have lost so far. As many has said we don't gain overnight and we won't lose it overnight. So be patient. -

It's good that you checked, you don't want to compromise your healing or weight loss. -
Adding to what Babbs has said, some don't lose any the first couple of weeks (could be water weight...), so don't be surprised if this happens to you. It WILL come off, if you follow your prescribed plan. All the best to you.....

I'm not sure we ever "stop". This is a lifestyle change .. a journey. I am not too surprised that you are not satisfied yet, after all it has only been 5-1/2 months. Try not to worry about what others say. You look great, but only you know how you feel. If you want to try adding some calories, it is up to you, just keep an eye on your weight and if you start gaining, then regroup.

Have you made any other changes with the way you treat your body besides dietary changes? Because I think you have to find a way to love and appreciate your body and weight loss alone might not be the key for you. When you look in the mirror you're still seeing your low body image and not what's really there. I'm definitely still fat (you're really not but that's not the point) but when I look in the mirror or think about my body now, that's not my focus at all. For me, I made some other changes in the way I treat my body that made a difference in how I feel and how I see myself. I work out a lot more now, six days a week. And not just to speed weight loss but to make my body stronger and up endurance. And my body is stronger! I can dance for a long time and run and jump. My God I even tried to twerk the other day (in the privacy of my own home, and I fell over anyway but I did try). My legs have gotten bigger and my gut still flops about. I set up my trampoline in front of the mirror and let my gut hang free the other day. At first it was uncomfortable looking, then funny, then I was proud to see it fly! The point is I am really liking what my body does for me and I love being able to feel the changes. Another way to learn to appreciate the body is through fashion and dressing it up. Experimenting more with makeup, shoes, clothes, accessories, hair. The body can really make a fashion statement and the smaller we get the more access we have to great, inexpensive stuff that can really make us into walking works of art. I am not a fashion maven and you may already be, but that's another angle. I love the way my legs look and I wear hot pants and dresses because I just like looking at them so much (sorry if vain). My legs are still big especially since they're more muscular and I could look at my thigh jiggle "fat" or I could love the way I look in tights. I can choose the latter. ANOTHER avenue for increased body appreciation: taking care of all those niggling health problems and concerns that maybe got short shrift when you were bigger. It's all about taking care of yourself, emphasis on "care". Self-care is something so many big people neglect and often because we're told our bodies are wrong and worthless and doctors often focus on the fat. I'm not arguing whether fat is healthy or not, but you're in a better position to get quality healthcare once you lose weight and you've lost a heckuva lot. The better you feel health-wise, whether you had serious illnesses or were generally ok, the more you can appreciate your body. This can be head to toe. Migraines been bothering you, allergies, old injuries, teeth need a checkup, is it time for reading glasses and what's with that pop in the right knee? Whatever it is give it some proper attention.

Timing/What to expect? Teacher hoping for summer surgery...
AEdoesRnY posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all! I'm brand new to this forum and I'm hoping to get some insights from you all on timing. My first appointment is on Friday (2/2) and I am so excited. I went through this process once before and had my first appointment with surgeon/dietician/nurse and then later was told my insurance wouldn't cover it. I've changed jobs and reached out to my insurance (health partners) ahead of time and made sure it's covered and figured out which doctors are in-network. I am a teacher which means that summer is the only viable time to do the surgery. I'm wondering whether I should be pinning my hopes on being able to snag a surgery date in mid- to late July (hubby and I have a trip booked returning 7/9) if my first appointment is on Friday. I know it varies by insurance and it'll probably depend on me being able to complete pre-surgery weight loss, but I'm wondering if others who are farther along in the process could give me a sense of the timing from first appointment to surgery... Thank you in advance!- 3 replies

I was just thinking about this the other day... My weight was 250lbs for years...I was well above it... then...when I went over 300, I figured it was too high to be 50lbs less...so i made it 280... well, I'm now 224...and I have a year until I renew...hopefully I'll be at goal and not have to tell a weight fib!
