6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED
crazycatladycanada replied to crazycatladycanada's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Two pounds lost in five weeks? How is that normal? It’s making me feel like something is wrong. The other 19 was legit the first week and included whatever the weight of my stomach was that came out and water I was retaining. So what has changed since then? I went and did a colonic hydro cleanse and came home heavier than I went in too. ps. Thank you for your reply I do appreciate it ❤️ -

21 lbs in five weeks is very normal. We started off at about the same weight, and that's about where I was at that point I think shows like "My 600 lb Life" give people unrealistic expectations about their weight loss. You have to remember that those people start off at MUCH higher BMIs than the average WLS patient. Most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range the first month. So your loss is perfectly normal! I went on to lose over 200 lbs - so the surgery works as long you're committed and stick to your plan. Edited to add that almost all of us hit our first major stall sometime during the first month after surgery. It's usually the third week, thus we call it "the three week stall". That may explain the 2 lb drop over those couple of weeks (367 to 365 lbs). If you search this site for "the three week stall" you will find over 17,000 posts on it (and no, I am NOT kidding). but overall, you have lost 21 lbs since surgery. Again, that's a normal loss for the first five weeks. -
6 weeks post op ZERO WEIGHT LOSS AND DEPRESSED

At a loss here. went to Mexico and had surgery Aug 12. Less than 24 hours after surgery I had to leave Tijuana because of the civil unrest going there. I have only heard from the dietician once they do not answer my emails or messages through WhatsApp. to the point where I paid a dietician on my own here in Canada. I went from consuming pre-surgery over five 6000 cal a day to now always sticking between 1000 and 1200 as per dietician. I used to only walk 500 to 1000 steps a day and I’m now doing 5000 to 6000 minimum a day. i have not smoked a cigarette even since before surgery. I went for a colonic cleanse last week and I’m taking many many supplements. because of kidney issues when I do take protein powders I cannot take them anymore according to my doctor and dietician so I make sure to get lots of protein through Greek yoghurt and chicken or ham or turkey or other vegetables. I started off day of surgery at 386. after surgery I was 373. When I made it back home to Canada five days later (stayed in California to rest before flight back) my doctor Weighed me at 367. Five weeks later I am at 365. I have never puked, and for over a month I would get feelings of being starving now finally I’m starting to get where my stomach says hey you’re full but I’ve always been very careful to track everything that goes in my mouth from day one. I am making sure to get all my liquids in. I am so depressed at this point I don’t know what to do and I just feel like giving up and saying screw it and going back to my old habits. I’m beginning to wonder if maybe the doctor in Mexico messed up the surgery or if there’s something really wrong with me I’ve gone to my family doctor four times and she doesn’t seem that concerned and said that she’ll keep an eye on it. has anybody else go through this? -
I’ve had first appt and now scheduled for bone density and nutrition tomorrow and psychologist and program director Oct 18 . I have to do my sleep apnea test next week and meet with exercise specialist that should be it . How long do you think it will take to get a date based on your experiences? TIA

Glad you're also doing well! (And glad to know I'm not the only one after hearing all the horror stories here.) Please let me know what your doctor says? I don't have a follow-up until 2 weeks after and would be curious to know what they say, as I'm in the same boat in terms of what I can eat. I suspect since it's liquid, it's flowing right out of the pouch into the small intestines, but I'm thinking real food won't do that. Tomorrow is my first day on purees, so have not had a chance to find out yet how anything will feel other than liquids. -
Oh girl, don’t get down on yourself! 3 weeks is still really early! My energy was so low too until I started being able to eat actual food and take my vitamins. Also, my dietitian said she didn’t care if I puréed my food in a blender or in my mouth so long as by the time I swallowed it was basically mush. This helped me soooo much because puréed food is disgusting! I was able to add in so much more food this way which helped. Just remember, it feels so long and hard but in the grand scheme of things, it’s actually such a short amount of time. 1-2 months is the hardest but you’ll get through it, I promise!

Eating with bypass vs lapband
Daddyof4 replied to Juniper123's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi Bypass, I have been absent, sorry. I had my revision March 21, I can’t believe it’s been 6 months! I now know how eating with bypass is different from with the band. It feels more natural to me too. I started out following the guidelines to the letter but have since slacked off a bit. I meet with the nutritionist tomorrow and the physician assistant Wednesday; they will help me get back on track. My recovery was pretty easy, I was lucky. The surgery pain only lasted a week (except for sneezing!). have been able to eat any food I’ve tried and have only vomited when I failed to stop eating after getting my signal - hiccups. I’m down about 73 lb but still want to lose a little more. I’m trying to hit the gym 3 x a week but most weeks it’s only 2. I have a ton more energy and my blood pressure is under control. I hope you’ve had similar successes, thanks to my surgeon. Let me know how you are doing now. Take care. -
Hi all, I had a sleeve in 2014 and a revision to bypass in 2017 due to severe GERD. My resting heart rate has been low consistently for several years (40s-low 50’s) and although I exercise, I am by no means an athlete. I have dealt with on and off light headedness for a while, and have fainted probably 3-4 times over the years, the most recent time this last week. I honestly hadn’t even thought about my WLS being related, but came across an old post on here today that was talking about low heart rates and did some research online. It sounds like low heart rates aren’t that uncommon after surgery, but my understanding is that this is something that usually resolves itself eventually. Has anyone dealt with fainting or low heart rates this far out from surgery? I did reach out to my doctor this past episode and she’s referring me to a cardiologist, but I thought I would check here since I’m sure this isn’t something a normal PCP would come across often. Thanks so much!

At almost 4 years out I started to get nauseous for no reason. I have been like this since Feb. it’s not food. I really can’t figure out what it is & neither can any Dr including my surgeon. He did an EDG a couple weeks ago & didn’t see anything wrong. some days I’m good & somedays, like today, I’m bad! I have been to my PCP, gastrointestinal, urologist, naturopath & my surgeon. Who else can I try?

I'm so glad you are doing so well! I too am having an easier than expected time. I am hitting my water and protein goals since getting home but I still don't know what full feels like and getting to hit those goals worries me a bit. I can somewhat feel full when drinking my protein shake, but it doesn't even feel like anything until I hit around 6 oz. Then I feel pressure but not bad pressure, no nausea, no pain. I am drinking slower on purpose, so my drink will take me like 40 to 60 min to drink, but that's more by choice then by need. I've eaten a 4 oz sugar free pudding in about 5 min and didn't feel anything either until like 40 min later and then I felt pressure. I have my drs appointment tomorrow as my one week check up after my bypass and I'm going to tell him my worries so hopefully I'll have some answers soon. As far as pain, I have been using the belly binder (wrong name) and that has pretty much kept the pain away. I have been able to sleep on my sides and roll over, even when I was in the hospital. Take it off and its a different story though lol. I hope we continue to do well and no bombs drop! -

I'm wondering if I'm the oddball here? I keep hearing about all the challenges everyone's having and this almost feels too easy to me. I'm one week post surgery and I've had very little pain and no nausea at all. I'm easily able to get in all my fluids and protein and then some. I've not developed any aversions to anything, so have been fine with the fairlife protein shakes and a bit of bone broth to mix it up a bit. I do have lower energy than I'd like, but that's to be expected as I heal. Evenso, I still have been able to get in 30-40 minutes of walking a day. I think the only sub-optimal thing I've experienced is a few dizzy spells (maybe once a day). I can't tell for sure at this point if it's hypotension, but that's what I suspect. Since it just happens in passing, by the time I check my BP, it's in the normal range, with my diastolic borderline low (60-62). I'm honestly waiting for the the bomb to drop. If something can go wrong medically, I'm typically the poster child. -

Not every doctor requires a preop diet. mine also doesnt. You can check just to be sure though, I did as well. They just told me to stay away from fatty foods the week before and no carbonated beverages. I also notice you are a lower BMI like myself, and its pretty common for lower BMIs. Generally you dont have the same issues with fatty liver as someone higher and thus no need to do the liver shrinking diet.- this is how it was explained to me. -

Totally agree with that especially weight loss and moving through stages of food! But kellyarw95 and NewmeDC, here are a few practical things that I learned: You will be very, very tired when you get home. I don’t recall nausea (I know for sure I didn’t vomit) but the gas is for real. Walking helps and a heating pad on your back/shoulders. Take it slow and do laps in your house. I didn’t experience too much pain but definitely needed meds for the whole week mainly for the laparoscopic incisions and the largest one has some really deep internal sutures that are painful. Stay hydrated - tiny, tiny sips of Water. You can figure out Protein later but you will 100 legit not be hungry - it’s weird. Forget it if you are a side sleeper…invest in a back support pillow because you will need it. I’ve also seen that a lot of people lounge/sleep in a recliner…if I had it to do over again I would likely have invested in one. Roll out of bed holding a pillow to your tummy and letting gravity assist. Do not lift heavy things or reach for things overhead/down low. Hope that’s helpful. Good luck! -
Thanks for sharing! I recently had my six week evaluation and so far I’ve lost 12 kilos or 26 pounds after surgery, so I’m pretty much on track for my starting weight. Yes, the stalls can be very frustrating and I had one for almost three weeks in the beginning of this month. But then the number on the scale started moving again. I still vomit sometimes, especially after dinner, no matter how careful I try to be. Happened tonight. So that’s my biggest problem, still.

Severe slime choking me constantly and acid in lungs at night
Kate207 replied to Kate207's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for this. This really makes sense! My consultant explained a few days ago that it was the lower part of my stomach that was removed although thats all he said. They never really go into much detail. I'll ask about the pyloric valve as I think you're right on this. Regarding the twisting this also fits. I never suffered from this slime or reflux until approx 3 weeks after surgery. I stupidly chugged back approx 750ml of a litre bottle of milkshake quite fast and instantly felt sick. I had extreme pain in my stomach so I went and lay down. As I did I had this strange muscle spasm in my stomach followed by a weird flopping sensation inside. Exactly as if my stomach had moved position. Thats the only way I can describe it. I was going to go to A and E but held off. The pain eased. The sickness went away. Then that night. Slime. And slime ever since :/ -

Severe slime choking me constantly and acid in lungs at night
RickM replied to Kate207's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are some Facebook groups specifically for people who have had gastrectomies, both total and partial, and that may provide better context and patient experience than a basic WLS group like this. That said, it sounds to me, in my non MD view, that you may have some kind of stricture, where the stomach has twisted or folded over in itself owing to it now odd geometry; the sudden onset leads me to this type of conclusion. What you have had surgically is not a classic sleeve gastrectomy (most likely, at least) but rather some variation, particularly if they were trying to minimize the amount of stomach they were removing. That puts it outside the normal bariatric experience base. Frequently what is done in these cases is a partial gastrectomy that is more akin to an RNY gastric bypass, where they remove the lower part of the stomach including the pyloric valve, form a pouch with the remaining stomach and tie the exit some distance down the intestine. This, of course, depends upon where the tumor is, how much they need to remove, and surgeon's preference and experience. We rarely see these problems these days with a conventional WLS sleeve as they are fairly cookie cutter and routine once the surgeon has done a few dozen of them, but it does happen occasionally early on owing to inflammation from the surgery, but that usually resolves itself in a couple of weeks or so. The RNY type procedures are somewhat prone to strictures around the joint between the stomach pouch and intestine from scar tissue if that is the type of configuration that you have. The endoscopy (or a barium swallow test) should provide some answers, though I am a bit surprised that they aren't expediting that considering the situation. Hopefully you can get some answers soon. -
Hair is starting to thin a bit
Candigrl1 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My hair shedding started around month 3 and is finally decreasing a bit. I had already had massive shedding before surgery so maybe that's why it slowed down so fast. I see lots of scalp now but I'm going to wait until it stops then see the hairdresser about what type of cut I want. Hang in there it will start to decrease and eventually stop. As for the stalls I usually get one every month and of course this month was no exception. I reexamined my diet and found I was drinking way too much Crystal Light (approx 50-60 oz) and have switched back to plain water and have started losing again though a bit slower. Stay safe out there in Florida! -
I'm sorry you're not feeling 100%. I'm not sure if this is helpful but I am having trouble being motivated to eat the food I should. I realized on Friday I havn't been walking and I haven't gotten any real sunlight in the last week. I started making an effort to get outside and take my vitamin d. I think its helping.

Clothing subscription services?
Queen ApisM replied to KimA-GA's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've started using Eloquii's service. You actually pick out the clothes you want to rent and they send you a selection of those you picked. I did it mostly because my work clothing situation is sad right now, and I am going in 1x week again and don't want to wear jeans all the time. I also was tired of wearing old things (granted, old things I haven't worn in 17 years) and wanted to feel better about my clothing situation. I've enjoyed it - I've tried things I would never have bought, and Eloquii also lets you buy stuff you like at a deep discount. Seriously the discount is dangerous because I keep buying the cute skirts and tops because they are hella cheap. Having said that, Eloquii has a trendier profile than Avenue or Lane Bryant, so some of their items might not be things you are willing to wear, depending on comfort level. Having said that, though, I have enjoyed it and it has made me willing to try some new stuff because I am not committed to it permanently. I totally think it is worth trying one of these services, especially as you venture into new territory where you don't have any sizes in your closet and you want new stuff! -

kcuster83 replied to liveaboard15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Stay safe out there! We have a vacation planned for Florida the first week of next month, hope it is cleared out by then. My hair is thick and has always had a lot of shedding so I can't really tell if it is more than normal or not. My ponytail seems a bit smaller so maybe it is but not enough to stress. Hopefully it stays that way! I think I am in a stall too, my first one since 3 weeks post op! I thought for a minute I was dodging stalls. haha (yea right). I have lost 3lbs over the past 3 weeks. THIS TOO SHALL PASS! -
So i am about 5 and a half months post op. My hair is starting to thin out. Knew it was coming, Oh well lol. It will grow back eventually. Lost almost no weight so far this month. guessing i am in a stall again... gotta hate it lol. anyways prepping for a hurricane here in Florida. Should be here by the end of the week.

I think everything is normal because everyone is different. It could be so many things that effect weight loss. . Just keep following your program and give it more time. Everyone looses at different rates and maybe next week you will have a large loss or maybe you will be slow by steady and still reach your goal. Hugs! Its hard not to have huge losses after going through all of this. But its going to be a long journey so don't stress too much, just keep at it and every little pound will add up. -
has anyone else his a weird low? I was feeling really good, but this last week I am miserable. I have no appetite, I can't get my water in, everything tastes and smells bad to me. Its to the point where I would rather not eat than possible be nauseous because of it. So all that makes me tired all the time. I am hating this.
