Cinco De Mayo Bandsters Update Please
justmel1957 replied to Parteetime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also banded May 7th. At my last visit June 12th I had lost 14 lbs. (I'm a lower BMI to start). I'm only planning to weigh when I have my Dr's visits. I get too easily psyched out by the number game. Next weigh in and 2nd fill will be July 14th. I am enjoying the NSV's though. I had noticed my pants getting looser, and decided I need a new pair of capri's for something I had over the past weekend. So, I go to the store and choose a size lower than what I usually wear, but thot, just for fun, I'd also try on a pair 2 sizes smaller. Guess, what! They fit!! And very easily. I was thrilled. Bought 2 pairs. I am very carefully measuring my foods and making the best choices I can. It's a whole different thought process for me now. It's almost fun. The fill was a breeze............no numbing and didn't feel a thing. Looking forward to the next one! -
So I buy Enell sports bras. They are expensive, but the girls are firmly planted in them. I realized that the bra I had prior to surgery was now to big (I noticed more jiggle). They size between 0 and 8, and sizes 6-8 cost extra (like any thing plus size..ugg) and only comes in boring colors. I was able to downsize from a size 7 bra too a size 4, and got a cutesy color too, with no upcharge! Seems so minor but this really made my day. Can't wait for my run in the morning!!

It's the little NSV's ...
gowalking replied to dhrguru's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are no little NSVs. They are all hugely important and I'm glad you shared this one with us.. -
NSVs-Off diabetes medication, blood pressure and heart rate under better control, more energy, asthma/lung wheezing is gone.....yes, when I look at it that way, I have had a lot of NSVs but I just thought I would have lost more weight by now. I'm not exercising. I know I should be but I hate it so much. My husband is supposed to try to adjust the belt on our treadmill. Right now it slips a lot when I'm walking on it and I am afraid I will fall. I'm wondering if I weigh too much to be on it but I think the weight limit is 275 and I weigh about 264.

There are some people who know I have had this surgery, and have been with me the whole way on my weight loss journey. With the exception of a very few, the people at our church are not in that group. This is mainly because I do not know most of them very well, and discussing my personal health choices is not my idea of creating that kind of bond. So this morning I am sitting in the Sunday morning service. For many, many years, I have dressed pretty much the same, wearing a nice pair of pants, and a low key Hawaiian style shirt. This type of shirt is not only good for hiding my rotundity, it also does a good job of hiding my personal defense accessory, which goes with me everywhere it is legal to go. So far I have lost 114 lbs, and have gone through several shirt sizes. I was wearing a new one today, and it fit just a little shorter than the previous ones I had been wearing for years. As we stood up to sing the second hymn, I reached down to tug my shirt into its proper place, just like they do on Star Trek. To my horror, as I reached around to pull it down in back, I felt about 1 1/2" of holster sticking out below the hem. And as things go, the woman who sits behind me EVERY Sunday is in a wheelchair, so she has an up close and detailed view of my nether regions. Sure enough, as I was sitting back down, I felt a tap tap tap on my shoulder. "Oh, great", I thought. "Here we go!" I twisted around in my pew to face her, running through what I was going to have to say to keep her from either going off on me, or quaking in fear. "Wow, you've really lost a lot of weight! How'd you do that?" My relief was palpable. I thought quickly. "I stopped eating!" She locked eyes with me, and started laughing, nodding her head all the while. So now I am wondering. Did she see my holster, or was she so taken with my new semi svelte appearance that it went by the wayside? I am not keen to find out just yet. But, this is a NSV in that someone outside my circle of those in the know, and who sees me on a regular basis, noticed that I don't block as much of her view of the pulpit anymore.

Congrats!! I love the NSV's!! Can't wait until I hit another one!! Good luck with everything.

Today when I was getting ready for work I realized I desperately needed to do laundry. The only clean "work" shirt I had left was the one I wore in my "before" pictures. I've been avoiding wearing it since then. I didn't want to put it on and not be able to tell a difference. NOT a problem! As soon as I put it on, I could tell it felt looser around the arms. And around what passes for my waist. I practically skipped to work. BTW: I'll be updating my ticker tomorrow. This morning was much too hectic.

I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. I hate being on liquids. I love being on liquids. They're both true, but I can't make up my mind which is more true. I hate liquids because I would really like a hamburger or some Chick-fil-a. I love liquids because they broke my stall. I've been stalled for 3 weeks now. I had my 4th. fill on Wednesday (9cc total) and Dr. Jay requires liquids for a whole week. I've lost 7 lbs. since Wednesday. :biggrin1: :clap2: :biggrin1: I've also had a NSV. I was trying to get ready for work and it took me 15 minutes to find a pair of pants that wouldn't make me look like an M.C. Hammer impersonator. That day my work handed out Wal-Mart giftcards for Xmas. So I figured I would use it to buy 2 pairs of workpants. I've been wearing size 22 pants. The ones I bought for work are 16/18!! They're a little snug but that means I'll be able to wear them longer. After Xmas I'll be going shopping for everyday clothes. I can't believe that I'm actually looking forward to going shopping. It is also time for a challenge update. Those three weeks at a stall have really shortened my chances of making this goal. I'll get close though and I'm happy with that.

Hey, did you know baggy britches are a double NSV? 1. Your britches are baggy and comfy and 2. Your tummy actually goes on the INSIDE of your britches instead of hanging over the outside! Double Whammy!!!

Congratulations on the NSV Whippledaddy. You are doing great.

Sweet joy of a NSV!

Congrats on your NSV.... I had to put my scale away for fear of weighing myself daily or hourly. Now I just weigh myself on Wednesdays.... -
You go girl! Awesome NSV's!

11/9/08 I’ve already begun to pull clothes out of my closet I haven’t worn in years. And that started just a week post-op and continues. I can’t believe it. I am already ….um…..more comfortable with my husband. Okay that was kind of weird putting that down. I’ve moved to weighing myself on the Wii Fit. It says that I’ve lost a total of 27 lbs and I’ve got from a BMI of 49 to 44.11. That is amazing! I was embarrassed of my BMI even on the boards, but I feel more “normal” for a new bandster now. I’ve upped my calories to 1000-1200 per day. I think that is where I need to be to keep the weight moving and I plan to start back to the gym this week. I haven’t gone to the gym regularly since about May. I hope that will jump start my weight loss even more. I still worry about my port and band and I can’t wait until my first fill. Not just for the fill but to be reassured that everything is ok with my port and band. I don’t know what I will do if I need a revision. Self pay means I definitely have to worry about that stuff!

So, weird thing today for me. I've been stalled at roughly 310 lbs for the past few days. However, when I went to put on my belt today, I was able to pull it even tighter than it was before without it being uncomfortable. Now, leather belts can stretch, but it's possible that I've lost inches without losing weight.

NSV this morning. I took off my "big girl" panties and threw them away, along with several other pair. It was weird because I was thinking (for the last 20lbs) that I could still get some use out of them. But there comes a point when you just have to let go. Thankfully I had others in a smaller size that I haven't been able to wear in a while. Yay for goodbye to huge panties!! haha

Breaking All The Rules
kkccmom replied to gabenmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
About a week post-op, I got so sick I could not eat/drink a thing w/o feeling like I was going to throw it all up. I could not stomach the Protein shakes, so I know I was not getting enough nutrition in any form!! It was a vicious cycle for about a week! I had about 2cc of Fluid removed on about Day 12...and he told me I could start eating SOFT foods. A by-pass-patient friend recommended Taco Bell refried Beans....= HEAVEN!! lol BUT, this meant I had virtually NO restriction...so for the past 3 weeks I've been free-lancing!! And like Joann, BOY DID I EAT. Not much during the day (stayed busy) but at supper, when I am fixing for my family - wow. I got some fluid put back in yesterday - not as much as was taken out, but we discussed taking this slow to avoid any complications. Today, I'm feeling hungry, but will drink my Water until its time for lunch. Supper I CHOOSE to do what is right. Its unlikely you have harmed yourself...BUT, like everyone said, TODAY/TOMORROW is a new day. Face your "crime" - and clearly you have done the time (berating and hating yourself = been there/done that!!)...so move forward. Make a list of your WHYs....why you want/need to lose weight. Here are few of mine - and maybe yours are the same!? - 1. Get off the floor w/o help (or a wench) 2. No shame at the beach - both in my swimsuit AND getting up from sitting 3. Crossing my legs - without havng to hook a foot on something to keep it there! 4. Riding some of the rides at an amusement park (I have not fit into a seat in YEARS - shoulder bar crushes the girls and kills my back - NOT WORTH THE EMBARRASSMENT) 5. Holding my head high at a school function w/ my children 6. Shopping for clothes that do not start w/ a "2" and end with a "W" 7. Making love to my husband w/ the lights ON. (and add shopping at Victoria's and actually BUYING something!) 8. Shopping at CHICOs. 9. Seeing my feet when I look down. 10. Not getting stares in a restaurant, knowing I will no longer be judged because I am EATING. (these are not necessarily in order of my priorities - just what comes to mind!) That's the short version...but making a list of my WHYs has been really REALLY helpful. I have not lost a ton of weight (16 to date), but I am noticing some NSVs - rings and watch are looser, pants are looser in the fanny and around the waist (tho not falling off yet by any means)...those COUNT. I will not give up...and neither should you!! We are all walking the same pathway here...some are a little farther down the road, but there is nothing new under the sun for those of us who've let our stomachs be our god. ITS A NEW DAY. Now, hop up, look yourself in the mirror and hold your head up and tell yourself "I am worth it"...then go write down your WHYs...and you're off!! We're rooting for you!! Kim in IN -
I can cross my legs again! First time in over 5 years. I'm beyond thrilled!!

I got a call from the other job that I've been considering. A few weeks back I went to lunch with them while they told me all about the job and asked me to apply. I applied but didn't hear back for awhile. So she calls today and says they'd like me to interview next Wednesday. I have very mixed feelings about this job. On one hand it pays a lot more and it's an opportunity to really make a difference, but on the other hand I really like my job now. Plus, we're hiring a full-time programmer so I'll be able to spend my time on design and usability and possibly move into being the information architect for the university websites. Plus, I have tremendous flexibility, I love my boss and the team I work with, I get free tuition to take my medical classes, I get every other Friday off, I can come and go pretty much whenever I want, etc. The only downside to this job is the pay. But even that's not so bad when you count the benefits and the retirement. So I went to the band doc today. New nurse! I convinced the woman to give me .2 cc's in my band. That would have NEVER happened with the other nurses. They're reluctant to give me .1. I'm loving this new restriction. Thank you band angel, whatever your name was! SCALE: 234.5 downstairs at the gym (231 at doctor's office) EXERCISE: Length: 48 minutes (35 minutes Arc trainer, 13 minutes treadmill) + 20 minute walk at night Time: 7:40 PM (entered gym) to 8:30 PM (left gym) Intensity: Weight loss mode on Arc Trainer, steady state (3.3 mph at a 5% incline) on treadmill Activity: Arc Trainer & Treadmill & Walking Calories burned start to finish: ~349 (gym) ~160 (walking) Calories burned 1 hour after gym activity: 126.2 FOOD: BF: 1/4 Metagenics Shake L: South Beach Kung Pao Chicken S: Yoplait light cherry yogurt & 1 pc turkey deli meat D: Apex chocolate shake w/ 1.5 Tb organic peanut butter & 1/2 banana CALORIES BURNED: ~2,652 (148 shy of goal) CALORIES CONSUMED: 845 CALORIE DEFECIT: 1,807 NSV: 2 co-workers said I was 'lookin skinny'. Another co-worker said I was looking skinny, but that something also was 'different' about me. She didn't know if it was a tan or my hair or what. I think it's my new makeup. I went to Sephora while in Vegas (like 4 times) and got some friggin awesome stuff.
