    Meal planning and living alone

I have the same problem as you original poster! Also, my sleeve surgery enabled me to follow my dream of moving into an RV and traveling all over the country, and an RV is no place for leftovers LOL… The refrigerator and freezer are small and the kitchen is tiny. This has been a problem. I recently decided to go back to basics, which for me are primarily: yogurt, cheese, nuts, fruits, veggies and meat 2 to 3 times a week. Feeling better already! Cookies!

I definitely wouldn't handle it by eating cookies. That is going to sabotage your weight loss efforts. Try the SF popcycles or pudding and see if that will help curb your cravings. How about greek yogurt? This is where you are going to have to buckle down and really use your willpower. That's the things about WLS, a chocolate chip cookie still smells and tastes like a chocolate chip cookie. We have to find ways to resist the urge. Good luck

40 days out - My journey so far

My ex-husband's doctor used to say "are you hungry enough to eat an apple?" If not, you aren't really hungry. I wouldn't recommend apples for WLS patients, since fruits are high in sugar (though apples ARE a pretty low-sugar option), but the idea is that if you aren't hungry enough to eat something nutritious, it's not hunger, it's a craving. So if you are "hungry" and, lets say a container of Greek yogurt won't satisfy that hunger, then you aren't hungry. If Greek yogurt would satisfy the hunger, then maybe go ahead and have it, since it's low calorie/high protein and will keep you from making a worse choice if the hunger becomes overwhelming.
  4. Hi. Starting day 3 liquid diet. I am allowed 4 weightwatcher Soups, 4 mullerlight yogurts, pint of milk, tea, coffee, sugar free squash and Water. So far so good. Am keeping busy when cravings set in. Yesterday helped my daughter totally blitz wardrobe. She was happy as was lot of blitzing and now looks so neat. I was happy as kept me out of kitchen. I know by time of surgery 3rd Feb my home will be spotless lol. Good luck everyone xx Sent from my SM-G903F using the BariatricPal App

    December bypass buddies

I've been asked to stop drinking Protein shakes or using powder. Get protein from food. It's hard for sure. Most days I still need to top up with a shake. Cottage cheese has 16 grams for 1/2 cup (1%) Greek light and fit yogurt is 12 grams . Lentils have lots of protein. Ground turkey ( Chili with black beans) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Words of wisdom

Honestly, I eat darn near exactly what @@Diana_in_Philly eats. I eat cannon light & fit yogurt, 3oz of sandwich meat rolled with a slice of cheddar for lunch and a lean Protein such as chicken breast for dinner. If I need a snack, i'll eat beef Jerky. My new passion is scrambled eggs with avocado. I love the pure Protein shakes if I can't get in enough protein but i'm 1.5 years out so its pretty easy for me. Try Fairlife milk if you need a little extra protein. Good luck!!
  9. Sounds like your doing fine! My surgeon just had me on liquids the first week. Then the second week I could have pureed like you are doing! I think blueberries are fine but just make sure they are very mushy with your yogurt. The 3rd week post op I could have soft mushy like mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, all soups etc. Your doing great!

I'm down 75 since April 2016 and 50 since surgery. I am very low carb. 60-90 grams of Protein a day any way I can get it while staying under 900 calories. Premier Protein shake in the morning (30G 120 cal), usually an Oikos Triple Zero Yogurt mid-morning for a snack (15 G - 120 cal). If I'm at home, lunch is 1/4 cup homemade egg or tuna salad. dinner is whatever I make for my family but in my size portions. So, if I cook pork chops and rice and a veg, I'll have 4 ounces of pork, one or two spoonfuls of rice and about 1/4 cup of veg. If I need a snack during the day, I'll grab a Quest Protein Bar (20G - 190 cal.) or mozzarella cheese sticks. Every once and a while I'll have a piece of whole wheat toast topped with egg or tuna salad. Tonight, I made a birthday dinner for my 14 year old daughter -- Penne with Vodka sauce and garlic bread. I didn't eat any of it. I had a yogurt, a slice of proscuitto and a mozzarella stick. And I didn't cry. Because I wanted that Pasta so bad. I still do.
  11. Yeah. Since surgery (9 days ago) I've lost 7 lbs. By the way, I WAS given a food plan. I was just feeling a bit like "Superwoman" and thought "why not have some blueberries with my yogurt?". Just had an urge to chew something I guess. Dumb I'm sure but guess what? No nausea. Nothing. Just full which is a good thing! But I'll listen to you guys. No more being adventurous. Also wanted to mention though. I've been blending baby food in my magic blender with organic chicken broth. So I've been eating chicken and vegetables with Pasta. Beef stroganoff etc. All baby food. But like I said. Turning them into liquid. Just so I can have some variety. Is this ok? By the way, I've been getting my 90 grams of Protein in every morning. Also getting in all my liquids. 3 days post op

I had outrageous hunger for at least two weeks post-op. Very frustrating. Whether it was head hunger or actual hunger didn't really matter; they felt identical. My fear of hurting myself by "giving in" to the hunger is what got me through it. I spent too much money on my pouch to mess it up! I am now allowed to eat solid/regular foods. The most surprising thing is that I don't crave a single thing. All the stuff I loved 6 weeks ago doesn't seem appealing at all.[/quote I guess I am just surprised that it's so easy to drink the fluids with no problems. I was expecting to struggle.to get in the liquid and instead I feel like I can do all the liquid and eat as well. I am glad I'm getting fluids and can get the Protein shakes in, just wish I wasn't hungry! I am so looking forward to cottage cheese and yogurts!
  13. Yeah! I wouldn't have blueberries yet. Unless you cook them and mash them then mix them in the yogurt! I would just try to get Protein shakes/soups in at this point! That was me anyways. Would a yogurt have filled you up before surgery??? Just saying! I could eat a whole plate of Mexican food, 2 basket of chips and salsa and fried ice cream with 2 pina coladas or 2 pops and that was just dinner. LOL! Now if we go to Mexican, my husband orders the fajitas and I have just a little of the meat and veggies (about 1/2 cup)and a bite or two of Beans and I'm done! It is great that you aren't having any real issues, are you losing weight?
  14. I am guessing you are on the soft food stage. I did baked wild alaskan sockeye salmon. You could bake other fish... it's nice and soft. I also did chicken that was really moist. I was told I could do moist ground beef, but didn't try it then, but you probably can. Hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese or other cheese. Refried Beans, boiled sweet potatoes, boiled butternut squash, well cooked carrots or canned carrots.... canned veggies of any kind because they are soft. A little banana, canned peaches.
  15. Hi! Is there anyone out there who is or has been one week post op Gastric Bypass and feel /felt completely normal? I'm not complaining and I'm not asking for complications but honestly, I'm talking no nausea, no pain, no diarrhea, no sipping of anything, no timing my eating. Everything fine! I even have an appetite!!! What the hell! No lie, today is day 9 post op and I just ate Greek yogurt with whole fresh blueberries. I ate it about an hour ago. Nothing. A little full. But fine. I was told my surgeon is a genius and that I was really lucky to have him do my surgery. Is he really that good that I feel like my stomach is still in tact? I'm not feeling any of what others are feeling. I'm a bit worried that when I heal and I'm able to eat regularly, that I'll feel safe to just eat anything and lose the control I thought I would gain from having this surgery and gain back weight!!!! Can anyone relate? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I'm on day 6 of my liquid only pre-op diet. 4 shakes a day sf Jello and Popsicles. One 5 oz serving of carbmaster yogurt and one 8 oz cup of skim milk per day. Water and low sodium broth. That's it. No meal and no veggies, personally day 4 was the worse for me. Yesterday and today. Smooth sailing. Hang in there and don't cheat. You're only cheating yourself and it's not worth the risk. I just take it a few hours at a time. I break my day up by shakes. shake #4 is in 2 hours so I can have a Popsicle or some broth until then. You got this! Stay strong! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Have you tried probiotics? During my last visit with my surgeon she recommended Ultimate Flora 20 billion/capsule since I was coming off antibiotics, but she said I should continue to take them since they are go for our guts and helps with gas and weight loss. Also, hummus, Beans, cottage cheese, yogurt...Are high in protein. I would say, stay away from carbs and focus on lean protein/fiber instead, drink your liquids and physical activity. Good luck. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App Thank you. Will try that Thank you Thank you. Going to try
  18. 6 weeks out and I can't finish one of the Oikos yogurt, let alone two. I usually manage about 3/4 of a yogurt over the span of 20 minutes.

  20. I will be a month out on the 23rd and I still can't finish one full triple zero yogurt. I start feeling full towards the end of it. Same when I eat 3-4oz of cottage cheese or some Jello. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Greek yogurt, peanuts/seeds, Peanut Butter or powder, boiled egg, black beans/refried Beans. You're getting in a good amount of exercise, you may need to up your daily calorie intake....your body thinks it's starving, slows down burning calories, so give it some fuel and it will release the weight. I was sleeved on 11-14. I get between 750-900 calories a day. I can easily get in almost 60 grams of Protein without adding shakes or Protein powder to my diet. But I like to get my protein close to 100 grams, so I add those things. I feel like you really need to up that protein in a big way. I know you said that you know you need to. Since you can't do the Protein drinks or the unflavored protein powder, I would suggest that you add in some protein packed Snacks. Eat your regular 3 meals with protein such as yogurt, eggs, or Egg Beaters for Breakfast. Then maybe have a mid morning snack. Even if it is an ounce or two of rolled up lunch turkey meat, since you can't have cheese. Then eat your meat for lunch and dinner and have another afternoon snack, maybe deli meat rolled up again. This will give you over 60 grams of protein in addition to your main meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, be sure you are eating protein first, and veggies last. Always fill up on your protein before anything else. I have seen a lot of people say that you need to get that protein up in order to lose weight. Plus it has other benefits and is very important in healing. Good luck.
