OMG! I know this is an older post but this exactly how I feel and I am into week 3 (day16). I am struggling so hard on eating and drinking. I tried clock watching and drinking the 4 oz and wow it's just tough. I started off great, and then all of a sudden I just don't want anything, I practically gag on Protein drinks (I have 5 dif kinds including Isopure drink), I think I just fill up fast. On week 2 I was eating protein Gelatin, yogurt, this week I did split a can of tuna and that was hell. Today I took a rotisserie chicken piece (2 oz and could only do 1.5 oz). I am not sure I can do 60-80 g right now. I did dehydrate Tuesday, temp was 99-100, chills I could not get rid off, felt horrible. I am great again, where you the same at the beginning?? I did switch to Vitamin patch today, after a week of Vitamins I loved, they started making me gag.

Who is doing everything RIGHT?
JamieLogical replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@ I only had trouble getting my Water in for the first two weeks or so. I had terrible esophageal spasms every time I swallowed, so it was very painful to take even the teeniest tiniest sip. My strategy for dealing with that was to march in place while sipping. It helped a lot. And I stuck to my nutritionist's plan for me to aim for 1 oz. every 15 minutes. I would sip, sip, sip constantly, not try to do the whole 1 oz. at a time! After a couple of weeks, the spasms went away and it was MUCH easier for me to get my water in. As for hitting my Protein goal, here is how I did it in my soft foods stage: Breakfast: Protein shake (20 grams) Morning Snack: String cheese (8 grams) Lunch: leftovers from dinner (15-20 grams) Afternoon Snack: Greek yogurt (12 grams) Dinner: usually a recipe like Shelly's baked ricotta, tuna salad, or some sort of pulled chicken in sauce from the slow cooker (15-20 grams) Evening Snack: Protein Shake (20 grams) -
Who is doing everything RIGHT?
Montana Gal replied to anonmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I followed all the "rules" of my food stages to the letter as well. When I made it to 6 months I did try and add a few things back in like Pasta, but found it to be a slippery slope to a place I didn't want to be...so I stopped. I get between 60-80 grams of Protein per day, stay under 50 grams of carbs and drink a minimum of 80oz Water daily. Most of my carbs are from fruit, veggies and yogurt. My weight loss has been a little slow, but steady. Best wishes to you today, you will do great! -
I need a helpful support team!

Pick a date and do a reset of some-what of a pre-op diet. Protein shakes, and cooked veggies and just cut out the carbs. No bread, Pasta. And walk, if you don't have a fitbit I recommend it , depending on which on you have or want to get it will yell at you to do your steps. I love my fitbit it makes me walk or step. And You can just do steps in your home and it will count it. Its hard to be around enablers, have a sit down conversation with them. Stock up on the yogurt, Jello, broth, if they are eating food you want grab your yogurt or a Protein shake or leave the room. Don't let them dictate or sabotage your weight goal. And remember we are here on the board for you! You can have the burger just make it at home, and no bread and use a George foreman so the grease drops. You can do this! And you look ahhhmazing! cinderella8 replied to cinderella8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For Breakfast I might have 4 ounces chicken salad, a scrambled egg with 2 slices turkey bacon or 2 low fat bomber cheeses. lunch might be a boca burger with a carrot and some cucumber or 4 ounces of turkey breast and a slice of Swiss with mustard. dinner might be 4 ounces salmon or cod with veggies. Or chicken breast the only carbs I'm eating are yogurt on occasion or skim milk in iced coffee. I will also have s Protein bar or shake occasionally for a snack. Pre-op liquid diet...is this normal?
sonkat5355 replied to mbuczkowski's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, normal! I've been on the shakes since January 19, 2017. The Protein fills you up a date u drop weight quickly. I can't drink more than 1 or 2 a day plus a bariatric Cream Soup 15 grams protein. I cut up 4 Oz of pure cooked breast meat. Sometimes I have a triple zero yogurt or a sf popsicle. I've lost 8 lbs on liquid and 2 prior to it. I thought I would starve on it but I have nkt. ????sonkat5355???? -
you'll end up taking quite a few unless you go with the patch. In that case, that covers most of the Vitamins you need although many people still end up taking a couple of other supplements because patch either doesn't include them or doesn't have enough of them. I don't find the supplements as much as a pain as I thought I would. I take some in powdered, sublingual, liquid, or chewable form so I don't feel like I'm taking as many as I am (powders and liquids you can often mix in with food or beverages). I take a small handful of pills in the morning, a couple before dinner, and then Iron and Vitamin C before I go to bed. Then I just have to take a Calcium chew a couple times a day and....voila! (my first calcium dose is at Breakfast - I use a powdered form (Upcal D) and mix it in with my Greek yogurt)

Low-BMI women who have lost quickly - how did you do it?
Clementine Sky replied to anonmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You look so beautiful and happy! Congratulations on your success! Toning up is my goal for the year so I'm also hitting the gym more now. Having the crock pot always ready and filled with healthy foods is really smart. I've been the most successful when I've planned out meals carefully and have Snacks ready and readily available. When I don't plan out, hunger will sometimes sneak up and pounce on me and I'll be tempted to just grab whatever is the fastest instead of what's the best. I still don't have the same appetite I did pre-surgery, but that will sometimes lead to me not having meals at routine times if I'm busy and then getting ravenous mid-afternoon. I've gone back to keeping an eating and exercise schedule, and that helps. I really like some of the higher protein, lower carbs / sugar yogurts like Siggi's and the Sweet Cream (which has 11 carbs despite it sounding indulgent) flavor from Liberte (at Whole Foods). Cheese cubes and cashews are another favorite. Keep up the great work. -
Make sure to schedule your shakes and plan high volume/low cal meals for dinner. If you have to decide these things when you are hungry it will be so much harder. My shakes were at 8:00, 12:00, and 4:00, then dinner was some kind of meat and veg. I had the same diet as you, but I had to also keep it under 1000 calories, so I bulked out the meals with lots of veg. These were my best meals: Salmon and roasted carrots, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower A big salad with turkey chili, salsa, a small amount of reduced-fat shredded cheese, and a tbsp of sour cream A big salad with grilled chicken, red onion, cucumbers and a home-made tzatziki sauce (low fat Greek yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, dill) After that, I was pretty satisfied and would maybe just have a sugar-free popsicle or a sugar-free Jell-O before bed. I'm not saying it's easy, but planning makes all the difference. VSG 1/20/17 HW: 325 SW:294 CW: 293

Discomfort After Surgery
Chicken Lady replied to stephanie.napoli's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgical team gave me an anti nausea patch behind my ear pre op. It stayed on until I got home. I woke up groggy but only mildly sore - like too many crunches. I never had any gas pain. But the pain PCA dilaudid made me super groggy. For me it was the next morning when I tried a lick of yogurt that was difficult. I had esophageal and sleeve spasms if the Water was too cold or too big a sip. For the most part it was a much easier post op recovery than I expected. I am six months today. HW - 283 SW- 238 CW- ? -
Um, at a month out your nutritionist already wants you at 4-5 ounces of food at one meal!??! That's nuts! I was at 2 oz. a meal for ages. I am well over 2 years post-op now and I would say 5-6 ounces is my absolute max, depending on the density of what I'm eating. You should be able to meat your Protein goal even if you can only do 2 oz. at a time. Especially if you can handle your Protein shakes and Greek yogurt. I would say about a month out my day looked something like this: Breakfast: Protein shake Morning Snack: string cheese Lunch: leftovers from a previous dinner or a scrambled egg w/ cheese Afternoon Snack: Greek yogurt Dinner: 2oz. of some recipe (like Shelly's baked ricotta, some sort of tuna salad, pulled chicken in sauce, etc.) Late Snack: protein shake That right there is 90 grams of protein a day, assuming my protein shakes had 20 grams each and my lunch and dinner had about 15 grams.

Hello all! I had a band to sleeve revision on 12/20. I'm advanced to soft foods. I am currently down 34 pounds. My concern is that I can't have more than a few small bites of food. The nutritionist says I should have 2-3 oz of Protein in each meal and 2 oz of vegetables. Yeah right! I can maybe have about an oz. of protein and I'm done. I can eat things like Greek yogurt and pudding with no problem. I remember my surgeon telling me on more than one occasion that he gave me a very small conservative sleeve. He said I should be get a lot of restriction. no kidding! Has any one had a similar experience? Does it get better? As of now, I truly not getting enough calories or protein. Thanks. Weighing or measuring food?
Diana_in_Philly replied to WitchySar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weigh Protein. Measure veggies. Measure rice or Pasta. Weigh fruit. If I'm eating pre-packaged yogurt, (e.g. Oikos Triple Zero single serve) I don't bother with weighing or measuring. If I'm using bulk yogurt, I measure because that's usually what the recipe calls for. -
I'm so jealous - none of this is available to me at all! I do have protein powders that I've ordered from the U.S., and vitamins of all kinds - chewable, gummy, sublingual, etc - since I don't know what I'll be able to tolerate after the sleeve. However, being in Japan means I've got lots of tofu, soy, and miso products available to me, as well as other real sources of protein (like chicken and fish). My local supermarket has Oikos yogurt, but not the triple zero. Anyway, I'm sure I'll make do - even if I keep dreaming of a fridge that's filled like yours!

Actually I've started eating fruit or mashed banana with granola, love the crunch and natural sweetness of the fruit. Its satisfying as well, at times I put both on my fat free yogurt. Bedtime is the struggle, when I get super tired I get the darn munchies and am not as head strong about avoiding my cravings...that started with Ambien many moons ago, I have since gotten off ambien!

6 weeks after surgery. I started low BMI but i still losing weight. My issue is actually still progressing to soft food and eating proper protein rather than shakes which i tolerate very well I can tolerate yogurt plain and with natural fruit. and tiny amount of cheese.(cracker size). tried lentil soup - there are days I can tolerate more of it and days I just can't. I am now 163 pounds down from 190 Surgery day. Any ideas about varieties of food (protein) that you can tolerate acknowledging of course that every individual is different.

calling all December 2016 sleevers!
lodagoda replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did the sleeve on 12/13/16 surgical weight was 190 losing 9 pounds in pre op diet. Now just over 6 weeks I am 163. But I feel I still can't tolerate a lot of soft food diet. so I resort to protein shakes and protein water. trying my best to get my protein from proper food but still can't get enough as I feel so full from just a 1-2 teaspoon. however, I tolerate very well plain yogurt or yogurt with fruit. a slice of small cracker cheddar cheese a day. I can eat soft boiled egg but that will keep me full for a long time. yesterday i tried white fish one half hand size fillet. it was so delicious but I just felt so full as if I ate one and half a chicken (as I used to eat before). I have always been a massive protein eater. Not complaining, it is great. But I am wondering what is your thoughts in getting real protein at this stage. knowing everyone is different. how frequent do you eat. Because even though i'm losing weight i fear i'm losing the good weight (muscles) rather than fat. -
Looking for January 2017 sleevers
bookpusher replied to Destiny Vavrosky's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on day 5, and should be advancing to full liquids, but my sleeve's not having it. It will take the Protein shake, but no cottage cheese or yogurt. Unfortunately, protein supplements are verboten with my docs. I feel guilty ignoring their advice to drink them, but am very worried about not getting enough calories, protein, and Vitamins. I'm barely breaking 400 calories today, and that's twice as much as yesterday. I've had maybe 700 calories total since Friday, and that's just not enough to heal or be alert. I am doing well with the Water, though. Any ideas? VSG 1/20/17 HW: 325 SW:294 CW: 293
