  1. I'm on day 16 of my stall and it's really bothering me. I hate stalls. But the worst thing is my daughter woke up really sick yesterday and now I'm sick today. Fever, achy, super tired, sick to my stomach, bad headache, runny/stuffy nose. I'm drinking the Fairlife protein shake (with caffeine) and eating fruit because honestly, that's all I can do. I normally get my protein from my food but I have a feeling that while I'm sick I'll be getting half or a little more from my shakes and protein drinks. Nothing is sitting right in my stomach besides fruit. Not sure how that's going to affect my weight, but I'll worry about it later. I hate being sick. Blah....

    July 2022 peeps!

    Hey guys! I hit a week from surgery Thursday. I think I may be the prodigal child and I feel bad about raving about how little pain I was in, how little the gas was a problem etc. But at the same time I want to let others know, it's not always negative! Also, consider about 3 years ago I had my gallbladder removed, so I am fresh to a lot of things these surgeries deal with. Incisions, pre op diet, gas, pneumonia potental, etc. Sorry in advance for the novel. My surgery was supposed to be at 1030am on the 14th, but I think I went under something after lunch. I think they were running a little bit behind lol. I remember coming to and going out many times that first day. I was able to drink from the small medicine cups of water they gave me. I expected there to be pain ... but there wasn't. Granted I had dilaudid at first and then just tramadol. I was up peeing (they keep track of that for kidney function) and walking around the nurses station. Later in the evening/night. I literally just wanted to sleep. But honestly, as annoying as they were waking me up every hour for vitals and asking if I felt up for walking, I really did feel better at least getting one trip around the station every so often. I was discharged around lunchtime the next day. I never touched the prescribed oxycodone nor tylenol for that matter. I never took anything other than my normal pills and the Prilosec except one zofran because the day after I got home (that saturday) the nausea took hold something fierce for some reason. After that though, I never had a problem. I didn't have to use the little spirometer they give you. I just took deep breaths and coughed. Very little phlegm came up overall, but I have no trace of pneumonia. Saturday I also decided to weigh, as I have read others did. I was also up about 3 lbs from day of surgery weight. They put like 3 or 4 bags of fluids in me while I was there, so I don't doubt that was 100% the reason. I decided then that I would just wait for the next appointment before weighing. Sunday, my first day on full liquids, was the worst. You would think that graduating to the next stage would be the last day that would be bad, but when you realize that doesn't really open you up to much more than tomato soup and protein shakes (which you are already sick of by now) - when I tell you mentally I was so done. I regretted the surgery, I regretted becoming fat enough to need it in the first place, I hated everyone and everything. I was hungry ALL THE TIME. I was not one of the lucky ones that lost the hunger hormone and have to "force" themselves to eat and drink. Monday rolled around. I just started taking things day by day. Hour by hour and slowly time started to pass. Thursday was my week post-op appointment. Incisions are healing well, bruising is starting to clear up. Also, the uvula (the dangly thingie in the back of your throat) was irritated and elongated from the breathing tube while I was under. IT WAS DRIVING ME F**KING BONKERS. I can't stand that thing hitting the back of my tongue and making me feel like I have something caught in my throat 24/7. It is just now starting to get back to normal. When I started this journey, beginning with the nutritionist visits in December I was 371.2. On the day of surgery, I was 345. Weight one week post-op was 336.8. Overall, since December down 34.4 and almost 10 since surgery. Granted I could be down less as it is now Saturday, but I refuse to weigh for a while. Maybe not until my 1mth appointment. Just stay the course and see what happens! I'm already seeing little NSVs. Tiny ones, but none-the-less they are there. They are just little reminders that this is a process and I can and will be successful. It's been a while since I've been around so I wanted to touch base. Also to provide info for those still waiting for surgery and those that are fresh out. It DOES get better! Even as soon as a week after.     June 2022 surgery buddies

    Hello everyone! I am 6 weeks post sleeve - I got sleeved July 8th, and I'm thrilled to report that I have now joined the great 100s Club! I have lost 42 pounds so far - I did not lose any pre op, in fact, I gained! I can't say that all has been perfect because I do have my days when I miss and crave foods that I shouldn't be eating and I do sneak a little in here and there, but I keep it all down! No stomach issues! I can't wait to start eating salads - week 8, I think! Happy journey, all!
  4. My surgeon never focused much on my final weight. I think he asked me at my first appt. What I hoped to get to, but I think it was more to see if I was realistic about the amount of weight I wanted to lose. My surgeon did not exactly set a “goal”, but before surgery he only said that based on my height/weight/age, i would highly likely get down to 175 within a year (translate to a 60lbs loss as I started at 235), and that anything beyond that was “bonus”. Ended up losing those “expected” 60 lbs before my 3 month mark, and racked up a few more “bonus lbs loss” after that. At my one year mark i was maintaining a 120 lbs loss +\- a couple lbs (and still am today) I saw my surgeon and nutritionist and nurse for many follow up visits the first 3 years and they didn’t bring up any talk about my target weights at all. My surgeon focused on recovery and possible medical issues (i had none); and my NUT was more concerned about how much i was eating (not enough in her opinion, but let me be mostly because my labs always came back satisfactorily).
  6. I am not sure what ideal body weight is but I hoped to reach a “normal” bmi but wasn’t able to. I was warned that I may not be able to with bipolar disorder. Statistically, people with bipolar disorder tend to lose a little less. I am close though. I think normal bmi was 164 and I got to 169 then bounced back to 179.

    Trying to Reach Ideal Body Weight?

    For those that set a goal weight with their dr/program… did that get done before or after your surgery? I’m just curious because no one in my program asked me that question or set a specific goal. We talked about the progress I’ve made so far and what I did to get there (lost 50 pounds so far, 15 of that was since starting with the program… surgery is in august). I’m hoping to loose (at least) another 15 pounds before the surgery. I have no idea what weight I want to be - just healthy and feel better. Granted I’m a higher bmi to start (highest weight was 382 … down to 331, I’m 5’3” and 48). Just for the sake of getting there I’d like to be under 200 - nice to see 1 in front of that number, but even when I played sports and was lifting weights I bounced between 145-160 so I’m not sure if it’s possible to see those numbers - let alone get below them to a “normal” bmi.
  9. Hello! I’m scheduled for a revision on 8/8 as well! I had a VSG 18 months ago and have had terrible acid reflux and developed a hiatal hernia. I only lost about 40 lbs after my sleeve, too. I’m hoping the revision will not only take care of the acid reflux but that I’ll lose 50 more lbs! I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I hear that weight loss is much slower after a revision so I’m hoping I don’t get really frustrated. Maybe we can be surgery buddies and keep in touch! Keep us all posted on how things are going. I start my liquid diet on Monday. Good luck with everything!😊

    Trying to Reach Ideal Body Weight?

    All of this! I had no idea what my goal weight should be, and my surgeon told me that I should just focus on the plan and not worry about a goal weight. However, I did set an arbitrary goal of 150 when I joined this forum, which is how much I weighed the last time I remember being happy with my weight (decades ago). Then I passed 150 and kept losing, so I lowered my goal to 140. I got all the way down to my high school weight (about 130). and I looked skeletal (which I don't remember being the case in high school). I gained back about 20 pounds over the first year of maintenance and have more or less held steady there for the past year. I definitely have to watch what I eat much more carefully now than I did a year or so ago, but I'm happy with where I am.

    Athletic Shoe Suggestions

    Why not try a sports store where they do those tests to see how you walk & the pressure points on your feet. I did & ended up with a brand I’d never heard of but boy they were great shoes. They were cheaper than those big name brands too not that price was a consideration. Comfort & support was all I wanted. I did it again after I lost weight. I had different needs & a different brand was recommended. They’ve been great too. You don’t have to buy from the store. You could go elsewhere to buy their recommendations.
  12. First treat BMI as a suggestion. Same with any goal you may choose. Body type, your build, age, lifestyle, health, genetics, etc. all influence what is the best weight for you & you can’t put a number on a scale against them. The other factor which you can’t do much about is your body’s natural set point. This is the weight at which your body seems to naturally settle. My surgeon did ask if I had a goal. I chose a weight which was the lowest I reached during my weight loss & gain cycles. It put me at about a 23 BMI. He thought it was sensible & achievable. I reached that in 6 months but continued to lose as I tried to find my maintenance balance. Initially my surgeon & doctor were concerned about my lower weight but it turns out I don’t have a larger frame as everyone thought! As one doctor said you’re actually quite a tiny person aren’t you & they all stopped worrying. Plus I don’t have bones protruding - I have plenty of flesh (fat ha!) on my bones. I’m about 2kgs heavier now than where I had initially stabilised for a year. (I believe an necessary increase in my HRT dosage & protein intake contributed to the sudden weight gain - all happened in the same month.) and I’ve been stable here for a good 7 months. My body seems happy at around this weight & so am I (except for those 2 kgs 😉). You’ll settle at a weight that is healthy & works for you and it’s okay if it ends up being more or less than you initially thought. My food choices & the way I eat to maintain my weight doesn’t restrict me living my life as I want. It’s been a sustainable way of eating for 2.5yrs now. I might make slight changes in the future but for now it’s working. I guess that ‘s the real goal. Being at a weight you can maintain in a healthy, sustainable way that allows you to enjoy your life as you want. PS - the slowing down of your weight loss is perfectly normal. It slows as you get closer to your body’s set point & your calorie intake is nearer to what your body needs to function effectively & healthily. Can you lose more if you want? Sure if you reduce your calories & intake your activity but can you maintain that without impacting your health or your life?
  13. Welcome..I am also new to this forum just discovered it a few days ago. People on here are very nice and lots of info. My surgery is July 26th (next Tuesday) on my pre op diet . I have lost 40pds since starting the program and I am not gaining during the pre op diet but scales are not moving either. I have not cheated so im not sure if I have just stalled. This has been bugging me but trying to stay positive. Again welcome
  14. My goal was to be under 200 pounds since I started at almost 400. I am at 187 now and while that is still about 40 pounds over ideal body weight for me, I feel great and all my labs are good. I'm happy with the way I look too, but I was never in this for a perfect body, just healthy. I just started maintenance and I don't know if I'll lose anymore. I'd like to weight 150 or 160 which is my lowest weight an adult, but I'm OK where I am too. I have a ton of loose skin and I feel like that accounts for some of this weight too, but maybe but a lot.     Post Op Bra Size

    I went from a 50H to a 36H now. I had a breast reduction in 2003 but they got bigger again after having by son, gaining a lot of weight, and breastfeeding. I was hoping weight loss would get me down to a DD or so, but no such luck. [emoji24] My cup size never did change in the past with weight loss or gain though, just the band. The only time it did was after the weight gain after my reduction. I was a 42DD after thag surgery until my pregnancy and went up to an H. They aren't as big as before my reduction at least!   16. I am on my feet the majority of my work day and I cannot find a good pair of shoes that last! I assume it is because of my weight. I am several months away from my surgery date so I am looking for any suggestions for a good pair of tennis shoes that have great support and comfort.

    3 Years Post Op

    I'm a bit shy of 6 years out, with my lowest weight being 2 years after surgery. I've gotten pretty lax about eating right if I'm being honest so there's been regain for sure, but it fluctuates between +10 and +30lbs and has never come close to my max weight. Usually when I sense I'm slipping too far, I just try to keep more aware of what/how much I'm eating, weigh in more. I definitely don't have the same kind of limited stomach capacity as I did years ago, but I still don't get hungry the same way and it feels like the weight comes off easier than pre-surgery. All in all, I still consider the surgery to be the best decision I've ever made for myself.

    I reached what is statistically supposed to be my 12 month weight loss at 4.5 months. I’m losing more slowly now… about 1 to 1.5 pounds a week. So, i guess I can lose this final 25 pounds and get to IBW, but at this rate, it will take a few months. After losing so quickly, I’m impatient!
  19. I set myself an arbitrary goal of 120 lbs, which was right in the middle of the “healthy bmi body weight range” for my height (5’2”). I was 235 lbs at the start of my 2-wk pre-op diet. But by the time i got to 127, i decided to call it cuz i felt i was getting a little too thin for my liking, and started the process of upping calories to find my maintenance level. I ended up losing more weight anyway over the following 5-6 months and eventually settled around 115lbs +\- a couple pounds (but did get as low as 109 at one point). Surgery was almost 4 years ago and this morning i weighed in at 119.5 Whats interesting to note however, is that while I weigh less now than I did when I stopped with weight loss efforts, i don’t look as skeletal as I did back then….which is a roundabout way of saying the number on the scale is just a guide, and can change based on your body composition; perhaps go with how you feel/feel u look? If you feel great and are satisfied with what you see, then GOAL ACHIEVED! Good Luck! ❤️

    3 Years Post Op

    I hear you and I have also gained weight this year. I will be 4 years post-op from my sleeve in Dec. I have gained about 25 lbs and I am working on losing it. My stomach still has portion resistance, however I now have the hunger pains and want to graze. I am doing water when that occurs and have upped my protein and am eliminating all the processed foods and junk that has creeped into my life.
  21. I am below my ideal weight. Today I was 117.2 lbs and my ideal weight is 130.1 lbs. I used to have 140 lbs. my goal (for 5'3") but somewhere I lost an inch in height at my surgeon's office a couple of months ago lol. So I moved my IBW to 130 lbs. I figure, I'll rebound some weight sooner or later since the majority of WLS rebound 10 to 20 lbs. something like that. Up to now, I really don't know what my final goal is either.

    Stalls - How many

    I guess I should define big drop lol. Maybe it isn't a big drop to anyone else. I never had huge expectations. I'm just thankful for the opportunity to get WLS. My weight loss is correlated with whatever my calorie deficit was for that given month, and has been relatively accurate. So last month, for example, I cut -500 cal/ day and my "big drop" at the end of the month was ~4 lbs. I'm kindasorta moving into maintenance. In the first few months I was cutting -800 to 1000 cal/day (or more) and my drop would be 7 to 9 lbs. at the end of the month. Whatever the case, my body takes a couple of weeks to adjust before deciding to let the weight go. So I don't really classify it as a stall per se.

    This sounds so much like me. It's been every month that the weight loss stops and then picks up again. I don't see big drops but yea this sounds like me.
  24. So, I've passed my initial 65% EWL goal, and I'm trying to figure out what my final goal should be. I know many doctors don't advise setting Ideal Body Weight (100% EWL) as the goal. Opinions? Have any of you achieved your IBW?
