    I luckily stopped myself from swallowing an accidental gulp, I got it down in three and it hurt but it could have been worse.

    Eggs seem to be one of those foods that bother some people and not at all for others - I had scrambled eggs in the hospital and boiled eggs the first week home (on the plan...) with no problem. It's just one of those things - for some it may be lettuce (when it comes to that phase) or beef or who knows what. As suggested, try it again in a couple weeks to see how it does - that was one of our program's basic rules - test foods one at a time for tolerance and if one doesn't work, try it again in a couple weeks.

    Stretching Exercises

    I agree, talk to your doctor. Most doctors want you to avoid any form of exercise other than walking for at least a couple of weeks and some even longer. Also, I would not call most of your examples "stretching exercises". At the very least, they'd fall under what we used to call calisthenics in the old days, but more properly fall squarely into the bodyweight strength training realm. Your toe-touch example is the only one that might be considered a stretch, but it's highly dependent on how you're doing it.

    Listen to your body and take it easy. Do partial movements without too much weight engaged.  Honestly, I say wait 8 weeks. Then all systems go!
  6. Good luck to everyone who has surgery tomorrow!! You all are going to do great! Remember to sip, sip, sip your water! My surgery was two weeks ago and I’m only down 10 lbs so far but it’s a marathon; not a race. I had a revision from VSG to RNY. No acid reflux! Hurray!!!😁🎉

    I think I'd probably hold off on the sit ups and toe touching until you see the surgeon. Not sure about leg lifts. I wasn't supposed to do anything other than walk the first four weeks. You could always call the clinic and ask...

Hi all , I am 4 weeks post op .I've never been a great walker but I have always done stretching exercises like sit ups , leg lifts , toe touching etc even when I was mega large .My surgeon isn't seeing me till the end of the month , does anyone else do exercises yet ? I had a hernia repair too . thanks !

    August surgery buddies!

    I’ve have my period through 1/2 of my recovery now (I’m one month post op this Tuesday) and I’m not gonna lie, it hasn’t been fun between the cravings, cramps and insane hormones… I’m exhausted. It came the day before my surgery… lasted a week, came back again last week and I’ve still got it. I’m trying to remind myself that this is a sign my body is getting better… the fat breakdown and hormone flood. I’m just hoping that my cycles start spreading out some. Once a month is enough.

    I’m going to be 4 weeks on Tuesday, and yes, some days I still have this. Every day my tummy seams to have a little different tolerance (heck even meal to meal). Some days a few bits are all I can eat at a time - some days I can have almost a cup of food for a meal. A few things that helped me were smaller bites, chew more thoroughly and slowing down my eating if I was feeling what you described. Sometimes I would measure out my meal, take a bite, walk away - then come back … eating a bite at a time but spacing it out. (That was tedious, not always possible but if I was home, it helped). I have to be mindful of my bite sizes because as small as I’m trying to take, if I got that stuck feeling, next time I tried to take 1/2 the bite size. It’s almost a nibble for me - followed by lots of chewing. Purée was the hardest for me because not chewing, I’d eat to fast. A baby spoon was very helpful for purées for me. Hang in there it’s trial and error and getting to know your body’s new signals.

    Hi, You have found the two foods that are really difficult to eat after surgery. Just leave them for a few weeks and then rotate them back into your diet. I am 9 months out and still struggle with chicken. [ Minced chicken is fine ! ] Keep trying foods every month that you struggle with and I am told eventually we will be ok with it. I am struggling with cooked salmon too.

    Not eating, drinking or walking enough…

    Thank you… obviously my hormones have been a much bigger mess than I even realized because I’m sitting here crying like a baby for no reason. Lol. I just saw my endocrinologist and he was super happy with my progress and I need to remember I have had more progress in the last year (and especially the last 3.5 weeks post op) than I’ve had in my entire adult life. Thank you (and everyone) for helping me to take a moment - breath and give myself a little grace while my body does what it needs to heal.

  14. Hi, everyone... I'm almost 3 weeks post-op, and my feet are still swollen even though the edema went away everywhere else (like my hands). I'll send a message with a picture to my doctor in the morning and let you know what she says. I'm wondering if any of you have dealt with foot swelling still present a few weeks after surgery. ETA: I think I may have found the culprit. They have me on 2 BP meds since I've been home (amlodipine & one other I forget the name of) because it was out of control in the hospital (210 on top) and is currently on the high side even medicated but not scary high. The plan is to keep monitoring my blood pressure at home so my doctor knows when to lower my dose. Once I lose enough weight and can move more, she has hope I won't need them in the future, but for now I do.

I'm 2 weeks post op, just started puree/soft food stage, I tried eating pureed chicken and very soft scrambled eggs (2 separate times), they both sat very bad, I could only eat like 2 bites of them and felt super full, like they were rising back up and like they were stuck. Is this normal? Did I start those 2 too early on? Will the sensation go away? My nutri and doctor tend to not follow up and don't reply to my messages.     Exactly as @SpartanMaker & @i bypassedmyphatass said. Diets are for the short term not the long term. The bariatric diet is devised for a specific short term purpose. While it is restrictive in the first weeks to support your healing, it does encourage you to slowly add more nutritional sources as you progress. One of the things you’ll do as you near maintenance is work out how you want to eat for the long term. Not a ‘diet’ but a sustainable way of eating that works for you & meets the needs of your body. I find it amusing when people consider our bariatric post surgery diet is high protein. It really is just focussed on protein first. Most of us are advised to consume 60g of protein while losing. In actuality, this is less than the daily recommended amount - 1g of protein per 0.8kg for our weight at that time. (Though I was told by my dietician as a woman in her 50s I should be having 1g per 1kg of weight.) So at my surgery, when I was about 85kg I should have been eating 68g - 85g of protein. Don’t know about you but before I started this process I never ate any where near the recommended amount of protein I needed. Remember if there was a single diet that worked for everyone, no one would be obese & we’d all eat exactly the same way. Diets are too restrictive to be be sustainable. That’s why we could lose weight on a diet but could never keep it off. I don’t follow a ‘diet’ at all now. I worked out what foods provide the nutrition I need, enable me to maintain without restricting my life & keep my body happy. Like, I aim to eat 70g of protein because of my absorption issue & I avoid bread, pasta, rice & potato because they sit heavily in my tummy. You’ll work out a way of eating that works for you too. Do your own research about nutrition. Start now so as you add new foods back into your diet you are making healthier choices & to see how your body responds to them. Remember any pro diet sites (keto, Atkins, etc.) will only give you biased information about how great & wonderful that diet is. Just ensure you’re eating a range of foods to satisfy your nutritional needs. In the meantime, follow your plan & the advice of your dietician & surgeon & listen to your body.

    I am also having the bypass on the 19th. There are quite a few who posted that they were having it on the 19th too so we'll have lots of company. The 12th is I think the winner for the most people though. Getting close! I have a split liver shrinking diet where the 1st week I could have 1 small meal and then 2 meals replaced with shakes. So tomorrow will be my last small meal and then its liquids only until at least a week after surgery for me. This 1st week has not been bad at all, so fingers crossed next week will go as smoothly.

    Given the fact that you have just had major surgery be kind to yourself. Your body is still in healing mode and exercise should be eased into. I gave myself 6 weeks before I felt comfortable in going for walks. Sadly this operation is notorious for making hormones go haywire and mucking up our periods. It may take them a little while to settle down again though it would be sound to let your doctor know that they are doing. As for reaching the fluid target you are trying to get there and you will, eventually. You said that your team is super nice time for some of that to rub off on yourself. Just breathe.
  19. Sooooo I had the band placed in 2008, did pretty will with it, (so I thought) lost about 50 pounds and held in the 180’s. However, it turns out I really didn’t do well with the band. Almost everything made me vomit. The vomiting continued until I had a hiatal hernia. Band was loosened, the weight came back. They retighten the band, and weight hasn’t budged. I’m about 10 pounds lighter than I was when I had the band placed. Not only am I embarrassed by my weight. I’m embarrassed for people to know I have the band, and it failed, and I am going to try this for a second time. I had an app with a surgeon this week. I’m going to get my band out, and be revised to bypass. This will hopefully help with the vomiting and get the weight off once and for all. He said based on the length of time I have had the band, he wants to do this in 2 steps. Band and scar tissue out and then bypass 1-2 months after. I’m terrified something will happen, the band will come out and then I can’t get the revision.

    What does everyone's preop diet consist of? I noticed some people have full liquid diets while others are allowed to eat low carb. I'm just curious because I've been trying to follow mine and idk if it's cause I know i don't have to officially start until the 15th or if I'm just that weak and hungry but I've cheated like every other day this week. Im hoping once I know I HAVE to do it, it'll be easier. So what are you allowed on the preop diet?

    Stalled at only 2 weeks post-op

    there will be lots of days where you don't loose weight and some where you might "gain" its all part of the process don't stress, don't weight yourself everyday. pick a day and a time and weight yourself on that day at that time each week. some even only weight once a month lol not me though some only weigh at the dr appointment but the more you weight yourself the more fluctuations/ "stalls" and I use that term loosely you will see.

    Well, i had weakened moment, and paid for it , so Thursday 1 week onto my pre op diet of 2 protein shakes and a meal with at least 3 oz of protien, i was so hungry my job had subs and wraps, and of course i had a turkey wheat wrap, that was not a good idea i was serverly constipated, and excuse my language, was in labor 2 hrs, and finally had a 4lb poop baby that was the worst feeling in the world. I was so weak after and disoriented, tuesday was my final visit before my surgery on the 15th, i weighed 234.7 after the birth i went down to 230.3. But im now worried because ive been reading about what happens if you cheat will on your pre op diet, uuugh does anyone have advice or been through a weak moment. Ive talked to a couple of people who have had the bypass and said they did the pre op diet 3 days before surgery and was fine. But on a positive side i haven't cheated since and my hunger cravings have gone e away. But im still 😟 concerned

    How much walking did you do?

    I think the walking after surgery requirements (clot prevention) is only temporary for a couple of weeks. I was just told to not sit still for hours, 1 minute every 15 just seems weird and how are you suppose to relax and recover doing that. getting up getting a drink going to toilet and normal stuff you do around the house maybe a small walk every couple of hours ( around your house) would be enough. but dont stress about it.

    I had surgery 9 months ago and didnt hit my goals until at least 6 months along. I had so much nausea and vomiting that taking the extra vitamins and calcium was tough. So I rarely did. I never ever got enough water or protein. Then on the 6th month I saw the right person and got the help I needed. Two doses of the right PPi a day. My husband was so worried for me. Since then I have gained strength and can do loads more. My body tells me when its time to rest and sometimes take a day off. I rarely get more than 60 gms of protein a day and if I had not found protein yogurts that I could stomach, I would still struggle. My calorie count is about 650 to 1000 a day. I am lucky that I have no hunger. I dont count my liquid intake but its probably less than it should be but I am ok with that. Its not a biggy with my team either. I am not dehydrated I can walk anywhere I want to now as before I would need a walking stick to go the shortest distance and be puffing like an old train. I may have had a slow start but it has not affected my weight loss, other than having more stalls when I have not been able to eat enough. Every persons journey is different. Its hard not to compare yourself to others but it does no good in the long run. I didnt exercise until month 6 and I knew I didnt have enough strength to do more than keep my home clean and go shopping. Now most days I have too much energy This surgery makes your hormones go stratospheric. Even at my age I knew my hormones where out of whack. My poor hubby couldn't understand why I was so short with him. I was just like when I had PMT again. My team were never bothered about my progress, just helpful I hope you get through your period quickly and get the right amount of ppi for the nausea. You will then gallop along

    One day at time …glad to hear your feel a little better. if I may recommend what my doctor recommended drinking 2oz. Of protein shake ever hour on the hour and then every 15 minutes within the hour drink 2 oz of acceptable liquid, for3 weeks.
