Confession time! Please judge me, I need it.
Justweight posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Okay! Here it goes. I had surgery on the 17th of Feb. Today marks 2 weeks post op. Surgery went well. Spent 3 days and 2 nights in the hospital. The 1st day I accidentally ate an orange and almost died. The 1st week I did well. Protein shake and Oikos yogurts and pain pills. The doctor told me to increase my Water intake but I just can't drink two bottles a day. This week I felt hungry. I was starving. The Protein shakes weren't cutting it. I decided to start soft food earlier. He's the confession. I would chew the food and spit it out. I had some meatballs, and fish, and food I know I shouldn't be eating. I told myself that because I'm not actually swallowing it then I should be fine. Today I feel horrible. I know that habit is a bad one and I should stop before it gets out of hand. I decided to start this week over and go back to full liquids. Today I restocked on protein, yogurt, Jello and water. I'm going to do it the right way this time. -
Help! How much eating in the purée stage?
MissSimpson replied to cathyj123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I’m at puréed stage and water goes down fine for me. The food - just depends on what it is. Yogurt goes down way easier than beans or something heavy. You’ll know if you eat too much or too fast. It’ll come right back up! That’s what I’m working with now. -
Quick recap- I had the sleeve on 2/5/2014 and had tons of complications. I was in the hospital a lot, I had a PICC line and then a feeding tube. It was a rough 6 months. My stomach basically didn’t tolerate food or drink, so there was a lot of puking. Fast forward to needing a revision to bypass on 6/26/2018 due to severe reflux and damage. The surgery went great, I healed well, no nausea. I was rocking it. I am doing great on full liquids but am failing miserably on soft foods. I don’t know if it’s psychological or what. I can do one cheese stick a day if I chew very well. I am okay with yogurt, just small amounts. I get sick on refried beans, cottage cheese, eggs, etc. I just keep going back to full liquids. Anyone else? Any advice?

Ooh I almost forgot on of my favorite “no cook” recipes is quiche. They have one made with egg whites at Walmart deli that is 300 calories. If that fits your stage and calorie budget you can slice it and heat up one piece or more at a time. I like it crispy so I like to do it one piece at a time. Just bake it for 28 minutes. I always have one in my fridge for last minute lunch or dinner plans. Also Panera has half salads on Their kids menu which also gives you the option to get yogurt instead of bread or chips. When you can tolerate lettuce. I like to take it to go or bring my own dressing with me though cause most of their dressing's are pretty high calories.

-Greek yogurt with berries and a couple teaspoons of Special K Protein cereal (can add Protein powder to the yogurt) -Morningstar vegetarian sausage patties with cheese and sometimes SF syrup (a couple of times I've had with half a low-carb English muffin or half a thin bagel but the bread fills me up too much and I can't eat enough protein, so I just stick to the patties) -Morningstar vegetarian meatballs with ricotta, parm cheese, and tomato sauce -Before I was on solids, I liked diet hot chocolate with protein powder -oatmeal with Greek yogurt on top, chia seeds (not eating these yet though), and a little SF jam -Refried or whole Beans with cheese, Greek yogurt and salsa (sounds weird for breakfast but I really like this--you might too if you like your grits savory) -Low-carb/high-protein pancake made from egg whites, protein powder, flax meal. I probably eat the veggie patties the most bc they have 10 g of protein each, so I can almost eat 2 of them or 1.5 with some melted cheese or part of a cheese stick.

Oh my gosh you guys can eat way more than I can and I'm 6 weeks Post-op. I have a 6oz. protein shake for breakfast Unjury since I'm more tight. Lunch is a South Beach wrap kit or even home made food 1 cup or less (chili, split pea soup, or meat ball w/sauce) one snack which is an once or two of hummus a few tiny pretzels or pudding cup/4oz yogurt. Dinner is about 2-3 oz protein and 2-3 oz carb. before bed herbal tea or sugar free hot cocoa. I could never ever eat a bagel or some of the other items you have listed... I have never had a PB was stuck once for a slight momment over eating three baked bagel chips after 5 weeks Post-op. I have the AP 10cc band and I get full or satisfied very early into my meals. Most of the food you list also is really not plan by my doctors rules..... Be careful not to over do it or start out of the gate eating unhealthy higher carb foods. Best to all in our journey of weigh loss!!!

March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?
canadianprairiegal replied to DDFinn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have u tried switching up food, I was on stall for 1 week, decided to switch it up by oatmeal with yogurt for Breakfast twice a week, 1 egg with 1 oz of cheese, 1 day, the other days Protein shake with fruit. lunch salad, with chicken or ff ham. Or cottage cheese with fruit or protein, Supper protein salad or broccoli/ cauliflower. This seemed to help lost 2 lbs, after that 1week stall, Do not forget take your measurements sometimes that scale is not our friend, inches are just as important. I had my surgery march 8 down 33 lbs, 16 inches from a size 20 to a 14 already. I get on the scale everyday, only because I know this will keep me on track, it also helps me plan on my meals during the day, but this is not for everyone, some need to only get on that scale once a week, and measure yourself once aweek The stall will end, you will lose loads of weight -
Thanks everyone! i am feeling much better today but very hungry! not stomach wise but mentally i want to eat something!! pain is better, gas is gone, almost threw up earlier because i had some yogurt and was forced to run around after my dog that got out. Why aren't you eating solid foods for breakfast? Or at least mushies like Greek yogurt or oatmeal. Protein shakes are a slider, I would be hungry 5 min. Later and I'm at restriction. Also for me salad is a slider food. Are you eating 3 oz. Solid protein Lunch and dinner?

What about some Greek yogurt mixed with some sugar free jam??

March Sleevers..are You Happy W/your Progress?

Thanks for posting canadianprairiega! I haven't tried oatmeal or salad yet. My diet thus far is still pretty bland. I have egg whites and sausage for breakfast, cheese stick for snack, chili for lunch, Greek yogurt for snack, and some sort of Protein for dinner. It feels like I'm losing slowly and suddenly I have a major sense of urgency to see the scale move. I had my one month post op last week. The doc gave me a goal of 154 within the next five months. Honestly I sat there and giggled in disbelief when he set that goal. He assured me that I could do it, but I can't even picture myself at that weight. It seems so unreal. So, now I'm using MFP and exercising. Hopefully the scale will move. My current stats- presurgery 235, surgery weight 212, current weight 191. -
Hi, I was banded in Birmingham too, not by Dr. Dewitt tho, Dr. Miles at St. Vincents East did mine 1 week and a day ago. I was so happy to be able to eat some yogurt, ya know something not just broth.. it is the worst.. lol Anyway hope everyone is doing good. I don't get a fill until Dec 16 but I am looking forward to that.

Hi, hopefully soon. Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I just wrote one that you might find interesting about the things we have to do to get ready. Where are you in the process. Bariatric Fusion is a name I don't recall hearing yet. Where do you buy it? I ordered some super whey protein from walmart and some Unjury and a bunch of samples from other companies. I hope I like the stuff from Walmart as I have a total of 6 pounds of it and I am only supposed to take 1 scoop as opposed to 2 scoops on the pre-op diet. So it should last a long time. I am going to try and make smoothies out of them in the blender and hope they will be palatable to me. I can't afford to waste money. However, I have done liquid diets in the past and I didn't mind too much. But this is going to be for 21 days and I'm not really looking forward to that. Thank God we can have some fish and chicken everyday along with yogurt and oatmeal and some veggies. Hopefully, it won't be too bad. Oh and jello and sugar free popsicles. Talk with you again soon. K

Eight weeks post-op, I can eat everything
RickM replied to Nelly S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't seem to be particularly harmful - your body will tell you if it objects. My doc has us on mushies from the hospital, moving into more real foods as tolerated, but avoiding the simple carbs and empty calories (and his practice has been doing sleeves for around 20 years, so I figure they know about the care and feeding of this type of altered stomach - I still can't quite understand the extensive liquids that some docs impose upon their patients - maybe it's a holdover from RNY practice?) I tried some restaurant chicken parmesan and soft tacos from Chipotle (less the tortilla) at around the two week mark and they did fine. I was told to start adding veg at my 10 day follow up since I was getting in more than the requisite Protein at the time. I was making small southwest style salads with a couple ounces of leftover meat in them in the 3-4 week range and was adding some raspberry and almonds to my greek yogurt Snacks at around the same time. I haven't tossed anything back up yet, though a couple things didn't quite feel right at the time. Your doc seems to have a fairly sane program. I can't quite fathom the ultra low carb mania that some docs are on - it's a useful thing temporarily for some conditions, but long term seems to be substituting whatever bad nutritional habits we may have had pre-op with another one post -op. Still, it works for some, (and some have a lot more weight to lose than we do, so need to lose at a faster rate to lose enough during the prime losing phase) though long term they're likely to have problems from nutritional deficiencies if they continue to be obsessive about it.. I'm not having as much fruit and veg as I was having pre-op, but am usually getting in a couple of servings of them a day. That will increase in time as I get into maintenance mode. I try to keep a lid of 1200 calories on my daily intake, and am usually in the 1000-1100 range (though I will probably break thru that today - we're going to Outback for dinner tonight and I'm sitting at about 750 this afternoon. I was 2/3 to goal weight at around the 3 month mark, so that seems to be working for me. -

What is on your menu today 5 weeks out?
saralyn4 replied to guthsj's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I will be 4 weeks out tomorrow and am on soft foods. Right now, Greek yogurt is my favorite. It goes down nice & smooth, 3 oz and 8 grams of Protein. I start the day with that, and then for lunch or dinner might have an ounce of chicken breast with green Beans, or a turkey slice with a little bit of cheese. I haven't branched out too much yet, I'm sticking to the things I know go down well. I like Soups too, minestrone (without the noodles), veggie Soup, soups with chicken & beans. -
Convenience foods made me fat. These food are keeping me thin.

I keep my portion size servings of chicken fish and shrimp in little sandwich bags contained in one big freezer bag in the freezer, then take one out pop in lunch box it is thawed and easy to reheat/cook for lunch. For dinner I usually eat what ever I cook for boyfriend just small portion with no bread (ex 1/2 hamburger patty no bun). I love your list but my cholesterol is high meaning no cheese and only fat free mayo and such... I have pre cooked diced chicken that I just add a sauce/spice too heat and eat..... Fat free or low fat Greek yogurt or low fat granola Cereal with skim milk are my go to convenience food. -

Portion size for puree stage?
Amie replied to amytug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1/4 cup is perfect for me with things like refried beans, chili, and egg salad. I can almost get 1/2 of cottage cheese and yogurt in. It's still hard for me to tell if and when I'm full so I have to measure so I don't get that over full feeling. -
I started out adding my meds to my yogurt but it made me not like my yogurt so now I grind the meds and open the capsules and put them in my mouth and swallow with flavored water. It's much easier for me and I am hoping to like yogurt again in the near future haha. Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

Glad to hear you reread your info. We need to stay away from sugars! Yogurt id good for you but stick to greeo yogurts. High in protein which will help to keep u feeling fuller. Yoplait greeo 100's or the light and fit greek is good too. Just watch which you choose for sugar content. Also the plain nonfat greek is good too if you like it. Good to substitute for sour cream or add fressh fruit for the natural sugar sweetener. I also ise it when making my own protein shakes. I do half cup frozen berries, about 3 oz of skim milk, half cup of greek nonfat plain yogurt and a scoop of vanilla or plain whey protein isolate and half a banana. Its good for 2 servings and about 300-350 in cal depending on ur fruit and protein u use. Just stick with foods high in.protein amd low in fat and the less sugar the better. Try to stay away from premade or boxed anything. The more natural the better and the lbs will start to melt away. Dont forget to exercise religuosly too. I am just 7 months and am now down 117lbs so it works. Good luck to you and congrats on your journey.

I had a sf kona ice early out too and it made me so sick! So do sf slurpees. St popsicles are fine- I think the flavorings must me too concentrated or something like that. I got some sf butterscotch candies that I am realizing give me the sweats and hot flash- I'm wondering if they are really sf or if maybe they have a high sugar alcohol. This is a trial and error area for sure! I ate something on Saturday that made me so nauseous and gassy for hours and can't figure it out- I only ate yogurt, yoplait 100. I'm wondering if it uses the same artificial sweetener! Mich W Hw 223, SW 217 CW 196.6 GW 135
