    banded and no restrictions

I was banded on 10/18 and went through the quick weight loss (19 lbs in the four days post-surgery), then when I could eat again I had no restriction and regained a few lbs. I had my first fill on 11/27 and again lost weight while on liquids for 24hr, then realized I still had not hit the "sweet spot." I have 5cc in a 14cc band so I'm hoping the next fill (on 1/8) gives me the restriction that I need.

    Creamy tomato soup

My plan called for creamy Soups the day I went home (1 day post). I found a cream of tomato and ate that with a scoop (ok... Like a teaspoon) of ricotta cheese (also approved). It was like a gourmet Italian dinner minus the Pasta. I'm now 10 days post and the other things I'm allowed are sugar free pudding, SF Jello, melted cheese, broth, puréed baby foods including meats.

  4. I'm 41 married and father of 2 boys .. used to be athletic but stopped after graduated from Univ. and started career I started gaining weight each month .. bounced through diet sometimes but always maintained way up on scale .. studied for a year or more what to do and decided it's surgery my solution .. At first I decided wd my wife and a famous doctor here in Cairo the gastric bypass .. we made the pre op analysis and checkups All was clear and set the op last year's May 7th.. I'm from Alexandria it's 220 km far from Cairo so I drove my car early dawn reached hospital, parked front of entrance and never was able to open door and jump inside hospital .. I freezed!! Something told me Go back don't do it don know why?? So I turned to my wife who kept encouraging me all the way and to her eyes told her straight I'll not do this bypass surgery!! She started to cry I dropped inside hospital front desk to tell them I'm not doing it and asked them to inform Dr. as soon as they can. I returned back took my time to study All and gave myself one year to sort it out if not I'll return doing bypass again!! 3 months back I was in a mall in Cairo met a fellow that I don't know who stopped me and told me you are 180 kgs!!! He is normal size, not obese so he struck me telling me he was like me one year back!! Told me about Plication and how it turned his life way better and how he committed himself to advise everyone who was like him to do it. I got his Surgeon details in another city 180 km from us went there and met him and liked it All. Only problem it's away from my hometown not very comfortable I started to search in my hometown and found a v good surgeon a brother of one of my best colleagues in Faculty who made it frequently and got v good results and decided he's the one! Today I completed one month post op .. feeling gr8 .. eating good .. lost 20 KG (44 pounds) 10 days pre op + 1 month post op .. feeling more normal now .. small portions fill it in wd satisfaction and can stay long without craving if ever as before!! No craving no bad mood without eating nor drinking problem is it goes to Water as well so water intake at first dropped dramatically now begin to increase it so it's vital and so imp. Best of luck in yours did the right choice and you'll begin a new you a much better self confident You .. post op only 2 days of disorder and some mild to normal pain then way better ev day .. best luck and best wishes
  5. Okay, it is October 29th and I have been banded for almost 8 weeks now. I have lost a total of 8 lbs. (13 pre-surgery). I had restriction from the surgery for about 2 weeks then it faded or completely diminished overnight! :omg: Then, I started to eat like I did prior to surgery! I did get a fill on the 16th of Oct. of 1.6 which is good but not my sweet spot. I continued to push my band to the limits with overeating. I could not eat bread because it would get stuck but I ate everything else. I was very discourged and finally reached out to a couple of people on the boards about a week ago. I received some great advice from a couple of really awesome gals, Bridget S. from OH and Sisteqh here on LBT. For some reason I felt that I should be able to eat what I want because I deserved it! What a crock! Who do I think I am? Well, Bridget responded to me about fighting her band and the day that she had a "lightbulb" moment; July 4th - her day of freedom!! She told me what I needed to hear. That advice started me on a new track. I was truly inspired!!! Since then, one week ago (10/22/06 - My personal day of freedom) I have lost 3 more lbs!!! On another subject. I am somewhat bothered by others here on LBT that seem to think or show in their posts that those with lower BMIs really don't deserve to have the band. As if we have not fought against our weight like they have. It is a shame that people are that biased! All I can say is grow the heck up!! Okay, I am going to set a mini goal for New Year's Day. Here is how I came up with it: My lowest weight that I acheived was 163 with Weight Watchers in 2003. I would love to beat that by one lb. So, my goal is to be at 162 by New Year's Day and to fit into my size 10 jeans. I can do it! I am going to up my exercise routine - 3 days treadmill 2 miles and 1 or 2 days hiking. For safety reasons, I do need to find a hiking partner!
  6. Going to a brunch. Menu: bacon/cheese quiche, stuffed french toast, hash browns, sausage, assorted bagels/muffins/pastries, fruit. I am 10 weeks post op today. Have been doing reduced fat and no sugar since surgery. I worry about dumping syndrome. What is everyone's opinion about having a forkful of each?
  7. In the last 10 years more and more American women have become obese. Yet obesity among men has not increased. In your opinion, what factors are causing this gender difference? From The Week: Obesity surges among women More than 40 percent of American women are obese, a 5 percent jump over the past decade, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports. "It's a really alarming figure, and it's alarming that it's continuing to go up despite government calls to action on weight loss and healthy eating," UCLA Medical Center dietitian Dana Hunnes tells The Guardian (U.K.). Obesity is calculated by measuring a person's body mass index, a ratio of weight to height. For example, at 5-foot-4, the average height for U.S. women, someone who weighs 174 pounds or more is considered obese. The condition is more common among African-American women, 57 percent of whom qualify as obese, compared with 47 percent of Hispanic women, 38 percent of white women, and 12 percent of Asian women. The rate of obesity among men remains 35 percent, with no increase since 2005. After analyzing information compiled on more than 5,000 adults, the CDC found no explanation for why women struggle more than men do with this serious health issue, which is associated with heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. What's clear, however, is that the billions of dollars spent on weight-loss devices, drugs, research, and community programs have done little to curb the nation's 30-year-long obesity epidemic. Researchers suggest no progress will be made until the food and restaurant industries apply their marketing skills to promote healthier options.

    Optifast - Pre-Op Diet

I will try to drink 5 shakes a day. Yesterday, I had only 1 shake the entire today. So far for today, I had one shake so I have 4 more to go. Yes, I am losing weight - 10 pounds since Wednesday. I wonder if I have the willpower to do this, should I even do the surgery? This is extremely difficult. Congrats on your almost 1 month anniversary Enerfina =)
  10. 1. I went from spending way too much money on food and booze to spending way too much at the mall 2. I don't run from pictures anymore. And I got rid of my I need to be standing when I take a picture rule. 3. I feel comfortable working out at the gym and not shy/embarassed 4. I keep needing to reprogram the seat setting in my car because I sit too far back 5. I don't get bummed when doing laundry and folding huge pants and shirts that a child could use as a parachute! ( I went shopping yesterday and looked at the waist diameter on a pair of 38 jeans and laughed... So I bought them... They fit me when I tried them on at home.) As far as the stalls. I have been sleeved since 10/22 (not even 2 months) and am in my 3rd wicked stall. Super downer. But my work clothes prior were 3-4xl shirts and 48 pants. Today I walked out the door in an XL button up and 40 dress slacks. Believe me, I would love to see the scale move more! But just remember that people see the inches lost, not the number on the scale!

    Wish me luck....

thanks Becky - truth is thats MY goal - when I started this journey I couldn't imagine getting below 150, so thats what I set it at. But to be in the "normal" bmi range I need to be at 140. I dont' care if I ever get to 140 or not. I'm with you I just want to look in the mirror and say "hey, not bad for a gramma!" I'm in a size 10, I hope after my tt I will get into a size 8 - and thats it - if I'm in a size 8 I'd be tickled pink! Well let me rephrase that - if I'm in a size 8 and I have a flat tummy - I'd be tickled pink!

    Is this possible

Ok fellow banders, it has been a while since I've been on but I have a concern. Please let me know if this has happened to anybody else out there. I was banded 10/15 starting weight was 284 I have had 3 fills the first two fills I really felt no restriction and my weight was stuck at 255lbs. On 4/9/09 I had the fill under the fluroscopy and it took my doctor the longest time to find my port(this has never happened with his office visit). But this time i had the best restriction I have ever felt since surgery. I was a little discouraged because i went to two visits and didn't lose neither did I gain but I thought it was because I incorporated weights into my workout regiment. Now I did lose clothes sizes (inches). So now since 4/9/09 I have lost 8lbs now I am 247 and I feel good...and I have so much restriction I am actually satisfied with my smaller portions. Do you guys think it is possible that my doctor MISSED PUTTING THE SALINE IN THE PORT WHEN I WAS AT MY TWO OTHER DOCTOR VISITS?

  16. I didn't know how to pick a goal weight either. I started at 248 with a BMI of 42. I am 5"4' and what they call a medium frame. I have quite a bit of loose skin too, which no one takes into consideration either. Today it shows my MBI at 26.5. I am shooting to loose 100 pounds which would but me on the top end of the scale for my body height and build. I still have about 12 pounds to go. But today I made it to the 150's which is kind of a big deal to me. Terri Branham 10/31/06 Dr. Tull 248.5 pre op 159.5 today down 89

    Pre-Op Diet?

I am 9 days out from surgery. Dr. Miranda asked me to loose 15 lbs before surgery. I am down 8-10 depending on when I weigh myself. I am hoping I can loose a few more before I fly out. I will say that I feel hungry somedays, and others I do pretty good. I am a cheat though....yep. Seems everyday I do something I am not suppose to. boo hiss! One VICTORY is I have cut out eating during the night. Yes...I am a night eater. That is a hard habit to break. Think I got it though. Anyone else on the pre-op diet and feeling tired of it? LOL It will all be sooo worth it! But gesh already!

    VSG ???

Hello, My weight on Nov 14, 2016 (the day of surgery) was 306. I am currently at 209 pounds and it's been 10 months since my sleeve surgery. Last month I lost almost 15 pounds. I am 5'7" and 46 years old. My doctor says he expects me to reach 160 pounds at around the 2 year mark. So I sould continue to lose weight even though the rate at which I lose it will slow. I am thrilled with the weight loss and if I didn't lose anymore, I would actually be okay with that.

    High TSH Levels

A little history about me. I started this process about 6 weeks ago and have had my initial appointment with my surgeon, my nutritional class, EGD (good with the exception of a small hernia which is good news since I am self pay). My only requirements left (since I am self pay) are my stress test (scheduled for next Wednesday) and sleep study which is scheduled for this Wednesday. Once I get those results back we can proceed with scheduling my surgery date. Right now if everything goes well I will be looking at the first of August. I asked my surgeon during my initial appointment if there were any concerns as my recent blood work at my PCP came back with a TSH level of almost 7. I currently take thyroid medicine and have for about 10 years. He said there were no concerns and we moved on to the next topic. The more I search these boards the more I am worried that my surgery will be delayed until my TSH levels are normal. My thyroid meds were recently increased and I am scheduled for new blood work the first week in July. My question is...did anyone else have their surgery delayed because of high TSH levels?
  23. At that point I was getting 100-110 g per day (it's a guy thing), which is still what it is at five years later (as it should be - these are generally maintenance levels of protein we are trying to hit.) Doc added veg to my diet at the 10 day mark since at 90 g I was at a more than satisfactory level at that time.

    Choosing a doctor

July 5, 2006 - called UHC, they indicate that lapbanding is covered on our policy provided we meet the BMI criteria. Researched doctors, and decided on Spivak (out of Network), Spiegel and St. Laurent (both in network). July 8 , 2006 - Dr. Spiegel seminar & consult. Supposed to hear from case worker by Friday July 14. July 14 - I called, they did not ask name, they asked for what insurance, then indicated they had just filed UHC on Wednesdays. July 18- Cypress Support group. July 19 - Called UHC, they have not received anything yet. July 24 - Called Spiegels office. They can't locate chart, will call me back. (never did) Friday, July 21 - Appointment with Dr. St. Laurent. Brought records for past 10 years. Talked with Jasmine & Paloma (insurance girls). They indicate they will expedite my paperwork on Monday.
