    FINALLY A DATE!

@@QueenBx girl I want Chipotles. But I have to admit that I'm liking mushy. I'm in Texas and there must be like 4 bbq spots not far from me and I like to get the smoked chicken thigh (no sauce), it's tender and gets mushy easily, plus the flavor is amazing. But I can only eat about half before I get full. Are you expermenting with your food? I was bored at first b/c all I ate was yogurt, cottage cheese, Soup and canned tuna. I just odered me a pressure cooker, I'm going to try to make my own healthy version of soft mushy Protein and veggies. Are you getting your Water? I'm still having trouble! Any ideas please share.
  4. Greetings Coexister, i does seem that I am not a dumper either because I’ve tested this several times. I did get a bad reaction from drinking whole milk kefir. I got a stomachache. I wonder is this a form of dumping syndrome? When I drank low fat or non fat kefir, I absolutely had no problems with the kefir. However, when I had a frozen yogurt, I didn’t experience any sickness in my physical body. In terms of losing weight, for the last three weeks, I have stayed the same weight. I haven’t gained or loss weight. I guess that’s a good thing. You know something, Coexister? I have often wondered if my Bariatric Surgeon actually did the RYGB on me. My recovery is very similar to when I got the VGS in 2016. I control my snacking by putting everything I eat in my dietary journal. My dietitian gave me a calorie target and I rarely go above my calorie target. If there’s a particular snack I want to have, I budget for it within my calorie budget. I also read these forums for insight and inspiration as everyone that uses these forums have pearls of wisdom to offer each other. I have no regrets that I proceeded to revision to the RYGB because I my weight is coming down again and I have no more GERD & heartburn anymore. I also can’t risk get throat cancer from the hideous GERD I suffered from before I had my RYGB. 😃 I am six weeks post op and today was my first day back on solid food. I’m going back on solid food slowly - introducing each new food slowly back into my diet.

    protein drinks opinions

Its for the first two weeks I'm dreading it but basically its clear liquids all day plus the shakes3x then week 3 I'm adding in eggs, yogurt, cottage chesse and something else lol dont remember what, week 4 I add in fish, week 5 chicken and turkey, week 6 beef..and I can eat anything that I ate the previous weeks. Not quite sure actual amounts have it written down. Its so odd how surgeons differ. I have no pre op diet

    Yogurt suggestions....

Fage plain 0%. Nutritionist said to choose yogurts with <10 grams of sugar per serving.
  7. I was banded a week ago (8/1) and was able to start mushy foods (thin oatmeal, strained cream soups, yogurt, etc) as well as doing my liquids and I'm having trouble as well. I end up feeling like I have a knot in the center of my chest. I need to take my own advice, but seriously take is super slow. Take a sip, let it go down, then do another. I've found that it helps a lot.
  8. I have been wondering the same thing and have the same response from my drs. office. They want me to focus on getting in the Protein and Water and nutritious food and not worry about the calories. However, I have had a day here and there where I was at 1300+. I have had several at the 1100 range. I went on a website and put in my age, height and activity level. It gave me the calories needed to maintain weight, lose weight (1-2 lbs/day) and to lose weight rapidly (2+ lbs/wk). I can't find that website right now or I would put the link here. However, it gave me a good target to shoot for. I think the further out we are and the more we can tolerate, it becomes increasingly important to make smart food choices. There are many choices that I have that are good for me. Some are higher in calories. If I choose a lot of cheese and nut Snacks, I might choose to end my day with an 80 calorie greek yogurt rather than Peanut Butter. I hope this makes sense. I am 5' 4" and feel I need to stay below 1300 to continue to lose 2 lbs a week with a light activity level. I am not exercising as much as some. I had a complicated sinus surgery procedure a couple weeks ago and my dr. does not want me straining, lifting, breathing heavy (as with cardio), etc. for a couple more weeks.

    Bariatric friendly desserts?

Dannon Light and fit greek yogurt. It comes in a lot of yummy flavors, and fixes that sweet need. It's 12g of protein, and only 7g of sugar. If you can find the Dannon Light and Fit blends, they come in amazing flavors. Key Lime, vanilla coconut, banana cream. They seriously taste like dessert. I can find them at my local super walmart.
  12. @@debd80 at 11 days i was only drinking liquids, broth etc (per my NUT) Protein Shakes obviously help satisfy the need for protein they are/can be filling your new little tummy is less than 2 weeks old it just had major surgery, tummy is hurting and a little angry at you for messing with it LOL most NUTS have different rules per their programs I was on a mushy/puree foods for a few weeks then soft phase (yogurt, cottage cheese etc) FINALLY solids you are allowed solids at 11 days!!! in my case at that early time, no way would i eat 2 or 4 oz but that's just my case per my NUT "Maybe I'm doing this wrong..." i would talk to your NUT maybe you misunderstood about your eating plan?? just saying.... at 11 days, if there is a problem with your eating you should be able to fix it, learn from your NUT (unless this is what your NUT prescribed!!) good luck kathy

Having a TOUGH time getting in Protein

My surgeon's office has a nifty little store in the front with Protein shakes, bars, Soups, Snacks etc so you can try out different things to see what you like before you order a whole box of something. I saw these little packets of LiquaCel concentrated protein and grabbed a few. They are really tiny and come in flavors like watermelon, grape, orange, and mango. I add them to my Water or even to skim milk which takes like a creamsicle if you use the orange flavor. They have 16g protein in each pack and my friend told me she uses them to add in when she makes sugar free Jello as well. I recently saw them on the site that I buy my Multivitamins, so picked up a whole pack. I also did better with the sugar free carnation instant Breakfast (in the blue box) than I did with protein shakes. The protein shakes reminded me of a pepto bismol consistency. lol I'd mix a packet in my ninja with skim milk and 2 ice cubes and it was kind of like a thin chocolate shake with no aftertaste. I rely on unflavored protein too and just throw some in whatever Soup or yogurt I'm eating for a protein boost.

    I've Fallen Off!!!

I too am so sorry about your sister. It breaks my heart. the friends here who are advising to only focus on protein are right. I’m not an expert. But I’m doing well, almost 5 months in. Main thing to think about besides protein is STOP ALL SUGAR, sweet drinks, bread, desserts, fake sugars. ive found that fat alone doesn’t stop my loss of fat ever. Full fat diary and meat don’t hurt me and taste fantastic. Healthy fats have a place with your protein. Don’t eat low fat anything. Eating a piece of juicy hamburger or a full fat unsweetened greek yogurt will keep you losing weight AND help you feel full and satisfied. All sweet carbs make you crave sugar and that’s is what you do not want. A week or two without sugar and you will lose the desire for it. No bread, no fruit, no sweets. 85% chocolate is ok. Potatoes and sweet potatoes even with butter are fine. I promise you, giving up all sweetness really works and after you kick the habit, it’s painless. good luck sweetie, you will lose the rest of your weight. And your sister will be proud.

    Post op day 6

I'm on thin liquids til Friday, then I go to thicker liquids like yogurt smoothies. I'm still confused on the consistency. Thin, Thick, Mushy, they all seem the same to me. I guess this Friday I want water down my tomato soup.

Surgery was Monday in Mexico, and after a few days of pain and suffering, I am back home and recovering. I did have some regrets after surgery, but im sure that is normal :001_tongue: Now i'm just working on the yogurt and chicken broth and juices, ready to get my energy back so i can get to exercising again! I hope that everyone is doing well!! Oh, and 7 lbs down in one week! Mostly Water weight of course but it is so nice to just see the scale go DOWN instead of up for once!! Jillian

    Sleeved today 5-13-13

Best Wishes for all those just done or about to be. Update on me, now 1 Week 4 Days post sleeve and hernia repair. I mowed the lawn and cleaned the kitchen up. Life is getting back to normal slowly. I did have considerable pain from a hiatal hernia repair that prevented me from using my cpap the first 6 days post op but that subsided and now am pain free. The sleeve part never hurt. I am eating the shakes, mashed taters, thinned soups and yogurts with no difficulties at all. Down 23.5 lbs so far. If you have difficulty your first week keep you spirts up, it will improve soon.

    March 20th sleevers

3/20 sleeve here as well. Doing fine. Protein shakes/shots (what a fab idea with the sno cone thing!), couple of tablespoons of yogurt or chicken salad. Of course sf pudding, popsicles, jello. And my saving grace - BROTH. I hated that Swanson stuff in a box - blech. So I use Wegmans Spicy Thai Broth mixed half and half with broth packets - and yes, there is a lot of salt. Small price for me right now for the satisfying taste and relaxed tummy. Down #10 pre-op, #15 post. Only worry is no BM yet. Guess I'm heading out to get some Mirilax. Can't wait. :/
  19. I really like the Isopure Naked whey. Other than making things cloudy it has no taste at all. Best of all it can be mixed with hot or cold beverages. It mixes easier with cold. When mixing with hot do not cook it. I take a small amount of warm Water and a whisk and slowly mix the powder in with a whisk. Once it is well mixed and smooth I add that to my warm beverage or Soup. I've also mixed it with yogurt and even water. No taste but it was cloudy and unpleasant to look at.
  20. @becca1281 I have a new favourite Protein shake. I mix one danactive yogurt drink, a scoop of vanilla Protein Powder and three quarters of a cup of fresh orange juice together with ice and blend it - it tastes like a creamsicle. So yummy! Not sure why the site is putting links to my protein mentions (I'm not recommending any single brand of protein)
  21. You are so lucky. My problem is with my appetite this past week or so. I am not hungry. I drink water when I can. I notice that when I put ice in my water I drink it more easily. I have a b12 vitamin patch now and I take centrum. Tomorrow is my first post op appointment. Let's see what the doctor tells me. I love herbalife shakes and I am going to use them as my protein shakes. I tried other brands and don't like the taste. Yes the chicken broth is great. I will definitely try the Chobani low fat yogurts. Thank you so much.

What Is Your Biggest Guilty Pleasure? (Food or Not)

Relaxing with the morning paper and a big cup of coffee....ok maybe my other would be nooze yogurt.
  23. The only thing I had complaints about this week (just sleeved Monday) is the hiccups. They hurt and quite frankly wish the gas would come out the other end. I believe it would be far less painful. I passed gas like the next morning after the surgery. I am eating my sugar free pudding, jello, and yogurts and hard to get all the water and protein in. Only my first day on solid liquids though so some tweeking will be in order for the rest of my menu for the next 3 weeks. Over all I am feeling great. I was so worried and it was for nothing. No pain at all. Good luck everyone.
  24. This is unusal, my doc recently told me the band doesn't loosen after you have lost the fat that was under the band. Maybe you have replaced that with muscle as you work to tighten up. If you are able to get lunch and dinner in I don't think I would worry. Maybe the coffee can be replaced with tea, no creamers and it's more "water like". Also, maybe yogurt in the AM for the protein. If you can"t eat lunch, at least call the doc. Good luck.

    JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

I guess it's different for everyone, I'm on the purreed stage (starting the 4th week today, Yay!) I can get down only half of 1 scrambled egg with salmon purée even it's very tasty but I really cannot. I eat very slowly with a teaspoon, chew well and wait a little after swallowing to see if it already filled in the stomach and stop at that point. I practically can eat greek yogurt with purée fruit or scrambled egg in the amount of 2 full tablespoons. On the aother hand I can easily eat around 1/2 cup of liquid soup. I don't think the spasm thing is a good sign, maybe you should try to eat smaller bite and slower and drink water a little bit at a time. See if ithe stomach will agree with you.
